151. Declaration on Climate Change from Youth of the Arctic
November 2, 2005
In November 2005, the United Nations will meet to discuss the Kyoto Protocol at the 11th Conference of the Parties (CoP-11). This meeting will also be the first time that the UN has met after the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol (MoP-1).
At this landmark event, we would like the UN to recognize the concerns of Youth of the Arctic.
Declaration on Climate Change from Youth of the Arctic.
We, youth from the Circumpolar North, realize that the world is facing a threat unlike anything ever experienced before in human history. Here in the Arctic, where the impacts of climate change are happening at an accelerated rate, we feel our physical environment, our culture, and our spirituality, are being disrupted. Sea ice is melting, coastlines are exposed and degrading, and species are at risk. Communities are being forced to give up land based traditions and Traditional Knowledge is being lost. Indigenous Peoples 'ways of being' continue to be threatened.
Our ecosystems are disturbed; we are vulnerable.
The science surrounding our changing climate has now existed for the same amount of time that we have been alive. Arguing the validity of climate change science is no longer worthwhile- it is now time to act - and act with conviction.
We are supporting research on impacts, mitigation and adaptation to climate change. We are encouraging our peers and our communities to become informed and engaged. Individually, we are taking responsibility for our actions. By reducing our personal greenhouse gas emissions, engaging in activities with lower environmental impacts, and making conscious choices, we are reflecting the world we want to live in.
We are challenging fossil fuel development such as the proposed drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, United States, the proposed Mackenzie Pipeline Project in Northwest Territories of Canada and oil drilling in Lensky region of Russia's Sakha Republic. We see the importance in taking steps now to lay a foundation for change that will reach far into the future.
The global community has come a long way in a short time. Thank-you to the United Nations for its Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Kyoto Protocol is a step in the right direction. Thank you for the considerable work carried out by the International Panel on Climate Change. Thank you to the Arctic Council for the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment and to Snowchange for their conference on Northern Indigenous and Local Community Observations of Climate and Ecological Change. These provide critical insight and raise international awareness about the situation of the North.
However, we are concerned that the work being done is not enough. We are concerned that science is not being met with awareness, and plans are not being met with action. More effort needs to be invested by individuals, communities, and governments, if the world is to reduce or reverse the impacts of climate change. We are concerned that the public at large is still unaware and uncertain of the threats of climate change. How can people be motivated to take positive action unless they understand the urgency of the situation?
The economy should no longer come before health and well being. Full cost accounting, or more socially and ecologically based accounting mechanisms should be developed and integrated. Long-term vision needs to be incorporated into climate change response plans, recognizing that political and business timelines are too short.
We would like to help you move forward with a multi-generational, multi-disciplinary vision. We will lobby for climate change to be taught in schools so that today's children are climate change literate and are armed with the tools to act. We will continue to inform the public about climate change and its effects. We will learn to adapt to climate change in a way that considers the impacts of our solutions on the seven generations ahead of us. Our generations are linked, just as the Arctic is linked to the rest of the world. Choices made in the present will exponentially affect the future.
We are willing to make a difference and we challenge you to do the same.
We call on you to help us build the economic, political, and cultural infrastructure necessary for a sustainable future.
We offer you our vision of a strong North and a positive world.
If you protect the Arctic, you protect the world.
152. Oversease Taiwanese and Youths Dismiss Taiwan Congress
153. Build a new Vertical Ramp at HQ
This petition is to help get a new Vertical Ramp installed at HQ.
YMCA Youth HQ currently house an undersized vertical ramp on site and want to upgrade. If there is enough community support, this will help in the funding process to install a new competition-sized vertical ramp. If successful, HQ will then house the only vertical ramp of its size in Western Australia, helping to train up local skaters as well as attract international professionals, further developing the sport locally.
We, the undersigned, STRONGLY SUPPORT the proposal to install a new competition-sized Vertical Ramp at HQ.
154. Get Mr Baldy Out Of Frankston North
Get the convicted and repeat offending pedophile away from civilisation, children, schools and people.
IF Victorian serial child sex offender Brian Keith Jones had been jailed in South Australia, the State Government would have kept him behind bars until he died. The hard line on law and order has become this Government's trademark. It will be remembered, more than anything, for overturning parole orders, challenging sentences and thumbing its nose at the conventions of the legal system.
At times, the Government has stepped perilously close to breaching the traditional separation of powers between elected government and the judiciary. But Premier Mike Rann can read opinion polls as well as anyone. This apparently tough law-and-order stance is publicly, and therefore politically, popular.
Brian Jones should be in prison. He is one of the most despicable people in Australia. Jones does not deserve liberty, yet the Victorian legal system has released him from prison. This is quite different from granting Jones his freedom. He is destined to be hounded to his grave by a remorseless and resentful public.
A brief reminder. Jones, also known as Brian John Megson, was nicknamed Mr Baldy after he abducted six boys, shaved their heads, dressed them in girls' clothes and sexually assaulted them. In 1981, he was given 32 years in jail which meant he could be held until 2013. But in 1989, he was paroled - and, three weeks later, he raped a nine-year-old boy and sexually abused the boy's younger brother. For that, he received a 14-year sentence which expires in August. The Victorian Labor Government released him on parole last month. Since then, his whereabouts have twice been exposed by concerned members of the public.
PROPOSED laws to keep Mr Baldy behind bars indefinitely were rejected by the Bracks Government last year. And it has emerged it could cost up to $1 million a year to keep the convicted child rapist in the community - compared with about $60,000 in jail.
This petition is made to address the fact that in our community there are no places for children to go after school, on the weekends, or just somewhere to hang out other than the street corners. There are no YMCAs or public playgrounds nearby for the child residing in this community to go.
The people of this community have the right to have a safe haven for its youth where they can learn, have fun and not have to be exposed to the things that are plaguing our young ones.
156. REMOVE PROJECT REACH YOUTH (PRY)
June 30, 2005
Since 1998, Project Reach Youh has been mandated by DYCD to service the Fort Greene community.
They have continued to offer little or no relevant programming, terminate quality staff members who have voiced opinions, offer no corective action to the community, and continues to violate the right of full disclosure while hiding behind privacy and confidentiality.
157. No to ALCOHOL sales on our sidewalks
The citizens for community vales wants to take a stand for our community. We do not want our community to be an advertisment for drinking alcohol and/or drinking alcohol and driving.
This sends a negitive message to our youth.
158. Stop explicit sexual reading material in middle schools, Kentucky
Book Title - Alice on the Outside. In the book Alice is a young girl that has questions about sex in which she goes to a family member for answers. We are not against sex education, but in our opinion this book leaves for more questions than it provides answers. Let me remind you that we are talking about girls in grades 6th- 8th exposed to this book, and little girls coming out of ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. (11 year olds)
For goodness sake. Most parents expect that sexual related material is not available to their children in school. The book tells Alice about what it feels like to have a man up inside of her body, and how good it feels to have yourself opening up for a man. It also defines when a man and a woman climax and come at the same time. That it feels like when you masterbate. ALL OF THIS IS IN VERY EXPLICT WORDING. It talks about how quite a few girls have used tampons to stretch themselves in the vagina area so it may not be so painful when you have intercourse.
In our opinion this book has no business in the public school system. You should not have to worry about what your children are being exposed to in the school library. A public library is a totally different situation. These are little minds, little kids that in our opinion have no business reading this at such a fragile age. The book doesn't discuss pregnancy, herpes, aids, things of that nature. Again, in our opinion this book in a public library is a totally different situation than being in our school system. This isn't only for Kentucky, we need to protect our children in the US from this garbage.
159. Youth and Recreation Dept. Utility Building
The Halifax Youth and Recreation Commission went before the Board of Selectmen to present a proposal for a utility building behind the Halifax Elementary School Department.
The Selectman denied the Youth and Recreation Department's proposal.

We are asking for assistance in making our present playing location in the Alden Town Park meet the OATKA League regulations.
163. Broadford BMX Track
It has come to the attention of residents of the Broadford Township and of the wider Mitchell Shire, who use the Broadford BMX Track, that it is in need of repair and restoration. There have been injuries incurred by users of the track due to attempts of repair by Mitchell Shire in which granetic sand was used as the new riding surface. These repairs were no doubt undertaken by the Shire in good faith. Due to the course nature of the granetic sand, when a rider falls and comes in contact with the surface they inevetiably receive lacerations. In some incidents medical attention was required.
It is time for The Mitchell Council to redevelop the track with the aid of local youths who use it. Consultation with riders will ensure mistakes like using grenetic sand for the riding surface are not occur again. Indeed, a partnership approach with the enthusiastic youth who regularly use the facility can develop new jumps and the riding surface should being covered with appropriate soil.
The BMX track is a great source of enjoyment for the youth of the Mitchell Shire, and should continue to be so for the future generations of youth of the area.
164. TOWNHALL EAST
A building called townhall east was deeded to the youth of pocono farms some years ago, it is being used for storing things, the kids club uses the community room.
We have a planned calendar of events and fliers are mailed out but, if the room is needed for something else we are shut out and have nowhere to go. Also the space is not nearly big enough as we have 35 to 40 children at one time and know where to store things i jo ann del prete head the kids club and i carry all the supplies in my car every other week.
I also have teens wanting to start there own club and just too little space we are a growing community and i have 70 families already signed up and were still growing.
165. USAGE OF RONALD BRIDGES PARK AND ETRIS BUILDING FOR YOUTH SPORTS FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING
UNION CITY HAS NO YOUTH SPORTS. THE CITY'S POPULATION HAS GROWN OVER THE YEARS.
166. RE-INTRODUCE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Religious Education (from here on referred to as RE) plays a significant role in molding the lives of our youth today. From the teachings received during RE sessions, youths will be assured of good moral, ethical and spiritual teaching. This will go along way in curbing the wrong doings that are evident in our country due to the behavioral pattern of our children. To withhold RE from our youth, is to allow the devil into our schools. Having heard counsel, and received instruction, our children and youth will be made wise for their future state according to Proverbs 19:20.
Change in our society will not come tomorrow, but one thing we know for sure, it will come in the future if we target the young. Religious Education needs an urgent re-introduction in our schools, for if we forget God, our nation is doomed.

167. Save The Valley At Louis D. Brandeis
The Valley Incorporated at Louis D.Brandeis is a community based organization that has been servicing youth for over twenty three years. This year the Principal decided to eliminate those CBO's that were currently providing youth cultural, educational, social and community service programs that were goal oriented and enabled them to develop their social and analytical skills. She has in turn decided to bring in her NYU. They will be providing tutorial classes for the students.
168. Degrassi: the abortion episodes
The N, the cable network here in the United States which airs the Canadian television show Degrassi:Then Next Generation, is refusing to air the first two episodes of the new season. Due to the nature of the episodes, in which Manny, 15, becomes pregnant with Craig's, 16, baby and decides that abortion is the way to go. Although it is a touchy subject, it is also a very real subject for today's youth. The show has dealt with sexuality, rape, cutting, child abuse, death and drug abuse, among other topics.
Pregnancy, abortion and the side effects of both, only seem like the next step for the show. With this petetion, we hope to show The N, that there is a need to show these ommited episodes.
169. Ban britney spears' "everytime" video and save our youth
This petition is aimed at banning the release in australia and eventually all around the world of britney spears' video "evertime" in this video she explicitly commits suicide, britney started her career as a role model to our children who is our future, unfortunately suicide in australia and all around the world is getting worse in our society and it is due to the roll models that our children look up to. I personally have had my own husband commit suicide and also my 12 year old daughter has attempted suicide as well and as a single mother I urge all parents to help support me to prevent this video from being seen by our youth.
I also have a email address for you to send an obection letter, these letters will be flooding the radio stations, music stores television stations that air music video's and britney's record company bmg music in america. The email address is objection@telstra.com

171. Ban Online Journals
Ban these horrible ideas that are trapping the youth of America in computers by lurring them and convincing them that the in corwd alone is expressing concerns that others believe to think is the "cool" thing to do. These "journals" are being used to find out inside stories and useless facts that are consuming Americas' future by keeping the countless hours on this horrible machine. Plus the people that use them make themselves sound like idiots and tells me that they have no lives. That is all.
172. Help Our Midget Football Teams
The Youth of Front Royal and Warren County need the Board of Supervisors to have the County of Warren pay the annual light bill charged by the County for the use of Bing Crosby Stadium and surrounding practice fields. Rising expenses in football equipment has financially strapped the league which has been a staple of this comunity for almost 50 years.
The Front Royal Midget Football Leaque receives NO co-sponsoring funds or help from the Waren County Parks and Recreation Dept. Expenses can be as much as $30,000 per year for field fees, lights, gaming policing, insurance, new equipment and for old equipment to be refurbished.
My name is nick horse, and i think the goverment should reduce the amount of homework because the youth of our day are recieving TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. It's not fair because when you come back from school, you don't exactly want to start doing hours of homrwork.
When you come back from school, you want to chill out!!
Come on you youth out there, i know you all agree.
174. Stop MTV from infuencing our society with violence
MTV has influenced our youth with violence, drugs, alchohol, and other forms of explicit content. I have noticed children and teens are growing more and more cruel, out of reality, and stereotypical and I belive that MTV should consider this open mindedly before showing some of the videos and shows that they do.

177. Build Soccer Fields for Vicksburg, Mississippi
Vicksburg, Mississippi is a town of 25,000+ that presently has no soccer fields within the city limits. The local soccer organization has 600+ players. City residents are forced to drive ten miles outside the city limits for practice and games. Youth
Development of the sport therefor struggles within the city. This has been an issue for many years now. Please sign the below petition for the good of our youth.
178. MTV Get Off The Air!
MTV is not about music anymore. It is about fashion, fame, and fortune. The "music" videos they play shows this clearly. Mainstream bands like Blink 182, NSYNC, and rappers like 50 Cent and Nelly are only in the business because it offers money. MTV is corrupting the youth of this and other nations, and needs to be brought down. I say this, and would fight to the death any of my strong-held opinions... MTV GET OFF THE AIR!
179. Bring youth entetainment to Middletown
About a week ago, skateboarding was pretty much banned from middletown, although i dont skateboard, there are many people who do. I think that skatebording and bikeriding are about the only things to do on weekends or school holidays, or even just after school with in walking distance of homes. I propose that middletown do something to encourage teens to get out and hang out with friends and family rather than be public disturbances or drug addicts.
The following people of middletown valley agree with me and would like to see something done to entertain the youth of our community.
180. Yes to a Magruder Commons Park
Magruder Commons has definitely increased in population. The number of youths have increased tremendously. The youth need a place where they can play and enjoy being a kid.
Safety issues play a role as well. This will prevent children from playing in the streets therefore, creating a healthy enviroment for our community.
