92. Sexual Violence - A Call To Action

Prevention and Intervention of Sexual Violence is needed in the following areas: global youth violence, child abuse and neglect, violence by intimate partners, abuse of the elderly, sexual violence, self-directed violence, and collective violence.

For more wisdom please see: http://www.nsvrc.org/_cms/fileUpload/global_perspectives.pdf

Marital and partnership rape are another category of sexual violence that goes unnoticed, and is often not recognized as being a problem in our global society. It is the most heinous of crimes because of a women's human rights having no presence in the bedroom. There is no equal opportunity in adult age pertaining to sexual violence. In underage children, violations are committed upon either gender, male or female. In adult age, the predominant survivor's of sexual violence are women.

Please view the following fact sheet on sexual violence: http://www.nsvrc.org/_cms/fileUpload/global_perspectives.pdf
With the history of sexual violence, it needs to be advocated that global communities become more aware of its presence in our homes, work, schools, families, religious institutions/organizations. This awareness is vital to the views of sexual violence. It is key to ending the regenerated cycle of sexual violence.

In any environment, we must be ready and in place to be able to deal with the issue when confronted by the issue of sexual violence. No longer can ignorance or denial be an excuse.
Sexual trafficking is a strong component of human trafficking and a violation of human right laws.

As well as authorities keeping evidence locked away, and a woman being swabbed without permission at the scene of a crime/assault. It is her choice. To view more of this problem (video): http://www.hrw.org/en/features/us-testing-justice and Full Text: http://www.hrw.org/en/node/81825/section/2

93. Lowering the Voting Age

Students are learning new material everyday and are fully capable of making their own decisions. There are various reasons as to why the voting age should be lowered:

**If 16-year-olds are allowed to drive a vehicle on the road, then they should be able to vote. There is no clear and present danger if a 16-year-old votes. It only gives a greater population the chance to voice their opinion and create a more democratic government.

**Teenagers are given adult responsibilities but are unable to vote like an adult.

**Some teenagers have jobs, which takes taxes out of their paychecks but they have no say as to where that money goes.

**Some teenagers are more intelligent than some of the adults that vote.

95. Stop Police Harassment in Arcata Skate Park

I would like to make an amendment to the rules of the Arcata Skate Park. As it stands, freestyle-bikes are not permitted in the park, and everyone is supposed to wear a helmet. Though I am not a regular user of the park, I often stop in and observe the sport, amused and welcomed by the calm atmosphere. I feel safe there, with the people who come to use the park, as it builds community and camaraderie.

That is, however, until the police arrive. I feel that the restrictions as they stand only leave it open for police harassment, not for safety.

Freestyle-bikes are not transportation. They are a sport in it's own right, and they enjoy the same terrain as skateboarders. Often, these bikes don't have multiple gears or breaks, but neither do skate boards. Based on my observation, they are no more likely to cause harm than skateboards, and freestyle-bikers wear their helmets more often than skaters, regardless of age.

For regular bicycle laws, all persons under 18 are required to wear a helmet. The same should also be true for all users of the Arcata Skate Park. Adults should be advised to wear helmets, as they are adults and can make intelligible decisions for themselves and deal with the consequences. While it is a good idea to make sure that these rules are enforced, as it stands, the police harass the inhabitants of the park, forming a dynamic that causes resentment against, what should be, the good Arcata police force. This might increase tagging as a form of rebellion against the police, and other forms of vandalism. By "enforcing" the rules of the Arcata Skate Park as it stands today, really, it is only costing the City of Arcata more money.

The Arcata Skate Park is a community building, safe atmosphere for all ages. I often see youngsters 10 years of age and younger, skating around adults of 25 years of age, 30, and older. There is no bullying, and everyone is careful around the beginners, often encouraging to the youngsters, helping them improve their skills. I've observed the freestyle-bikers and they are just as courteous as the skaters. When a police car comes into view, the inhabitants of the park will yell "po-po" and everyone stops skating, scattering the once calm atmosphere into disarray and tension. Arcata is one of the friendliest communities I've ever lived in, but this is something that will tear the young community from the rest of it. This leads to increased aggression and dissatisfaction as a young Arcata citizen, thus leading to more crime.

If there can be a repair to this rift, via changing the rules slightly, we will have a better community for all.

98. Support Permanent, Supportive Housing for LGBT Youth in Central Harlem

In New York City a very disproportionate number (up to 40%) of homeless youth identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT).

Even more disturbing are reports that these young people often face discrimination and at times physical assault in some of the very places they have to go for help. Despite this, there is currently no permanent housing with supportive services for this population in New York City.

West End Intergenerational Residence, in collaboration with musical artist Cyndi Lauper and her manager, Lisa Barbaris, is seeking to address this issue by creating the True Colors Residence (TCR), a new construction with 30 studio apartments and program space on 154th Street in Central Harlem.

We’ll be building it from the ground up so our residents will have a brand new, modern building with studio apartments for each resident, as well as both indoor and outdoor community space to socialize or attend education and recreation programs. Each resident will be responsible for paying affordable rent based on their income and will receive ongoing assistance in obtaining employment best suited to their individual interests and skills.

Although TCR will not require participation in its programs, a variety of social and educational support services will be available to all who request them. Our primary goal is to provide a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment that will empower our young residents to be the self-loving, happy, and successful individuals they were meant to be.

ONLY MEMBERS OF MANHATTAN'S COMMUNITY BOARD 10 SHOULD SIGN THIS PETITION. Manhattan Community Board 10 encompasses Central Harlem and the Polo Grounds – bounded approximately by Fifth Avenue (on the east) and St. Nicholas Ave (on the west) and Central Park North (on south) and 160th Street and/or the Harlem River (on north). If you are unsure whether or not you live in CD10, please check here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/lucds/mn10profile.pdf.

You must include your home address along with your name for your signature to be valid. WE MUST BE ABLE TO VERIFY THAT YOU LIVE WITHIN COMMUNITY BOARD 10. Please note, however, that street addresses will not be viewable by the public and will only be seen by representatives of West End, TCR, and Community Board 10.

For more information on West End and the True Colors Residence, please visit www.intergenerational.org.

Thank you for your support!

100. Save The Planet

The vision of Save The Planet is to contribute towards the creation of a Planetary Peace Culture looking to life and common humanism as the core values for a sustainable society.

During the last few decades, a radical change has occurred in humanity's awareness of itself. In simple terms, we have, over the millennia, translated ourselves from "oneness to aloneness".

The truth is that all life on the planet is connected. This newly acquired state of aloneness and alienation causes considerable discomfort. this initiative attempts to understand what we have become and illuminates our future potential.

Humankind has reached a state of development in which old modes of thinking and behaving threaten to destroy our planet. This is becoming patently obvious to people of all political and religious persuasions. We are living through a global crisis in which only a profound revolution can save us from total self-destruction. Those of us who are dedicated to the preservation of life must play a prominent part in this revolution, which calls for a substantial change in our manner of thinking.

On social, environmental and health fronts we are confronting a critical transition. We are facing the results of an epistemology which focuses on material and rational values, human supremacy and competition for domination. Will this transition be into chaos and destruction or will it be into the new paradigm based on spiritual, ecological connectedness and cooperation.

Save The Planet aims to contribute towards this next great global step - The Final Frontier, acknowledging the common ground of humanity and its connectedness with all life.

Save The Planet is an Initiative which aims to create a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in which we all live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and co-prosperity.

We have come together as concerned Global citizens realizing that with increasing Global population requiring more and more resources with tremendous inequality of distribution our planet is reaching breaking point in terms of economic and ecological crises.

This is having profound social and cultural effects. We require urgent ecological, social, economic and political solutions to problems which affect billions of people if we are to survive sustainably.

Save The Planet calls for spiritual, ecological and holistic world views, derived from perceptions of connectedness and interdependence.
The essence of a sustainable future lies in the quality of the individual and their positive contribution to society. Optimization of health and lifestyle for every person is the key to our future.
Will you register your ownership of the Planet by signing our petition , that we may widely promulgate this message in order to take action to Save The Planet

Save The Planet is dedicated to creating a world model which:
1. FORMULATES a program to save the earth for future generations.

2. RECOGNISES the necessity for global cooperation and awareness to address global problems.

3. HONOURS the basic dignity and wholeness of each person.

4. BRINGS TOGETHER - on a Global and Non-Sectoral Basis the means of making contact with others involved in diverse aspects of global healing and concern for planet Earth through the use of global communications networks.

5. BRINGS TOGETHER PEOPLE FROM COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY who are able to deliver presentations which energise an entire global commercial community to develop "new ways", whereby we can reverse the demise of planet Earth.

6. ADDRESSES the Global Environment Problem directly and implements solutions and aid strategies in ways which governments cannot.

7. PRESENTS NEW TECHNOLOGIES which are environmentally friendly, conserve energy and water and encourage organic and innovatory farming.

8. ENHANCES THE COOPERATIVE EXCHANGE OF INNOVATIVE KNOWLEDGE for the future, where the role of industry is paramount through speakers, representatives, displays, technology and sponsorship.

102. Change Jeffrey Bean's sentence

We, the family, friends and concerned citizens are asking the State of South Carolina, The 7th Circuit Solicitors Office and anyone who retains judicial authority to revaluate all the evidence in the case of Jeffrey Bean, thereby reducing his sentence eliminating substantial sentence disparities.

In this case, at 16 years old Jeffrey was intimidated into participating in a drive by shooting by two adults, his co-defendant 19, and a third suspect 22, they insisted his vehicle would be unknown. Providing statements at the same time they admitted their involvement, his codefendant confessed, he and some other friends planned to shoot at a long time rival’s car after he refused to fight, then they recruited the third suspect and his gun. Under the influence of drugs they never once anticipated actually hurting anyone, no one was thought to be inside the car.

Jeffrey is doing a mandatory 8 ½ years prison, with a impeccable record, he received his GED and is working in the prison industries. While the adults, the co-defendant who admitted being the mastermind is now on 3 years probation after completing just 8 ½ months in prison, and the third suspect remains uncharged.

Shocked, the victim’s family even expressed disgust in the unequal justice as they left the co-defendants sentencing hearing. As of September 2008, Jeffrey Bean has completed 20 months behind bars, already exceeding that of his co-defendant by over 11 months. This is inconsistent with precedents and demands fairness.

103. Bring Jericho Scott back to Youth Baseball League

I am Trinidadian but I know a foul ball when I see one.

When this petition was written, Jericho Cross was nine years old when the Youth Baseball League said that he was banned from playing baseball. The truth was Jericho was an excellent pitcher whose only crime was choosing the team sponsored by Will Power Fitness over the defending team sponsored by one the YBL's administrators. Yes, the decision to ban Jericho from baseball is biased.

What kind of decision is this to ban an excellent player from a league like YBL? It is unjust, unfair and unbelieveable. Gifted players should be playing baseball with everyone else. Anyone who comes across this petition should sign up now and defend the child's right to play baseball.

Here's the whole story:

104. Safety and a New Playground for our Children

Magnolia St in dorchester is a long hill like street. On my street theres alot of loving families with alot of children who love to play outside. In the past month, there has been three accidents with children getting hit by speeding cars.

There's no speed bumps or lumps to reduce the speed of these cars and increase the safety of our children in the neighborhood. Also, there are over 8 empty lots on this street, but no playground or clean field for these kids to play in, instead, these lots are being used as dumpsites from outsiders! Adding speed lumps to our street and a playground on one of the lots, would improve effectively the safety of not only the children, but all the families.

As a young Latino I care about my community and the people living in it!

117. Save the Arts, Save the Youth of California

Many elementary schools are depriving their students of fine art classes, such as band, choir, drama, etc. Elementary schools are given a fund of roughly about $100,000 yearly for the curriculum.

Theres a certain percentage amount of money for "critical" subjects, and the remaining is spent on anything extra for the school, like music, and the budgets are going to be cut in a year, or earlier (the current year is 2008), and the schools figure because of this, the first thing the schools think they can go without are the fine arts, especially those corresponding with music (band & choir).

As a result, more high school drop-outs. Which brings me to my conclusion, as to the reason for the petition, the California Government needs to provide a percentage of their funds to the school needs to go to the fine arts permanently.
