1. Grandparent Visitation For North Carolina
This petition is for grandparents in the state of NC "only" who may be interested in grandparent visitation in the state of NC.
2. Jasmine's Bill (Screen for Dyslexia)
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness that scares us. We ask ourselves - Who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are YOU not to be so?"
-Marianne Williamson
Dyslexia is not recognized or tested for in any school district. Dyslexic children often dont qualify for special education...because their IQ is too high...so they are left to suffer in the class room. These are intelligent children who only need to be taught differently...If we could recognize Dyselxia and treat it accordingly we would produce highly intelligent, productive adults. People like: Thomas Edison, John F. Kennedy, Henry Ford, Andrew Jackson, Albert Einstein,Magic Johnson,Tommy Hilfiger, Pablo Picasso,Nelson Rockefeller
Leonardo da Vinci, Tom Cruise, Whoopi Goldberg
3. Public Data Base on Convicted Sex Offenders and Paedophiles
It is an expectation of each individual to maintain and promote a safe environment for all children and for those who are unable to defend themselves.
It should be an obligation of our government to provide reasonable information that will benefit those of us who are caring for our future, those who are our children.
In achieving a safe environment it should be expected that our government make freely available a database listing convicted sex offenders and paedophiles. It should be without hesitation that such a database be available not just to a select few but to the whole of Australia and so that all socio-economic backgrounds can benefit without financial discrimination.
4. DEMONSTRATION AGAINST CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION IN ERITREA
We, the concerned Eritreans who live in the United States of America are holding a rally against Christian persecution in Eritrea. Christian Eritreans are being harassed, persecuted and detained for the only reason of their belief in Jesus Christ.
We believe that freedom of religion is one of the basic rights of any human being. The Eritrean government is not only violating international human rights declaration that the country is party to but also the provisions of article 19 of its unimplemented Constitution.
5. Stop Horse Slaughter in the U.K.
I have created this petition to make the slaughter of horses illegal in the UK. Most horses destined for slaughter are sold at livestock auctions or sales. The cruelty of horse slaughter is not limited to the act of killing the animals. Horses bound for slaughter are shipped, frequently for long distances, in a manner that fails to accommodate their unique temperaments. They are usually not rested, fed, or watered during travel.
Economics, not humane considerations, dictate the conditions, including crowding as many horses into trucks as possible.
Often, terrified horses and ponies are crammed together and transported to slaughter in double-deck trucks designed for cattle and pigs. The truck ceilings are so low that the horses are not able to hold their heads in a normal, balanced position. Inappropriate floor surfaces lead to slips and falls, and sometimes even trampling.
Some horses arrive at the slaughterhouse seriously injured or dead. Although transportation accidents have largely escaped public scrutiny, several tragic ones involving collapsed upper floors and overturned double-deckers have caused human fatalities as well as suffering and death for the horses.
Before slaughter horses are supposed to be rendered unconscious prior to slaughter, usually with a device called a captive bolt gun, which shoots a metal rod into the horse's brain. Some horses, however, are improperly stunned and may still be conscious when they are hoisted by a rear leg to have their throats cut. In addition, conditions in the slaughterhouse are stressful and frightening for horses.
Horses of virtually all ages and breeds are slaughtered, from draft types to miniatures. Horses commonly slaughtered include unsuccessful race horses, horses who are lame or ill, surplus riding school and camp horses, mares whose foals are not economically valuable, and foals who are "byproducts" of the Pregnant Mare Urine (PMU) industry, which produces the estrogen-replacement drug Premarin®. Ponies, mules, and donkeys are slaughtered as well.
Many of the horses that are purchased for slaughter were in good health, and bought for only a few hundred pounds.
The owners are often totally unaware of the pain, fear, and suffering their horses endure before being slaughtered.
6. Put "Forbidden Love" Back on the Book Shelves
Forbidden Love is the shocking testimony to the courage and strength of women who are prepared to defy generations of male dominance. Dalia was a young muslim girl living with her family in Amman, Jordan when she unexpectedly fell in love with Michael, a major in the royal army, and a catholic. For a Muslim woman, any relationship with a catholic man is forbidden, and Dalia was only to aware that flouting this rule could cost her her life.
Norma Khouri's Book is a gift to the memory of her friend and a powerful love story that ends in an appaling tragedy. It is also an attempt to bring to the worlds attention the continuating practice of Honour Killings in Jordan - an ancient tradition that encourages the murder of woman who are believed to have brought to dishonour to thier families. Today, it is still a crime that effectively goes unpunished.
7. Abolish the Secondary 5 day Timetable at St. Stephens for 2005
We propose that the new 2005 5 day timetable be abolished, or changed to cater for the large number of students who are unable to take the subjects that they would like to.
8. Remove the No Soda Rule at Lackawanna Trail High School
The new rule instated at our school (Lackawanna Trail) about the use of soda machines should be removed. It is unfair that the percentage of people in the school who are in shape should have to suffer because of the people who are not in shape. It is also unfair that they sell cupcakes and snacks that are high, if not higher, in fat, sugar and cholesterol then a soda.
9. New Role Playing Sub-Forums
On Neopets, there has been a constant argument among the Role Playing board about annoying newbies as well as some arrogant advanced. My idea is that new sub-forums should be added! An "Newbie's Role Playing" board for those who are new and wish to practice with others at their level, an "Advanced Role Playing" for those who are very experienced, and an "Easy Going RP" for just relaxing and having fun. This will most likely bring peace to the Role Players of Neopets.
10. Lower the drinking age in the United States
Time and Time again, there are always debates about people being a certain age to carry on in certain activities. One activity that has had the most debate is the legal drinking age in the United States of America. Between the 60's and 70's when America was at war, this issue came about. It came about because at this time, the Governent decided that 18 was the legal age to vote and make educated decisions about people's political future, as well as fighting in wars. Since the question "I am at a legal age to vote and protect my country, why can't I drink?" came about, the Government decided to lower the drinking age to 19.
Over the years, there have been many irresponsible acts of binge drinking, and drunk driving done by many young people, this is in turn enticed the Government to raise the age to 21. I'm petitioning this issue because I feel that it would be fair for people 18, who are considered adults, and over to be able to have access to alcoholic beverages. There are many places in the world like Jamaica, and China who don't have a legal drinking age, and they don't seem to have a predominace of issues like drunk driving etc. I feel that it would be beneficial socially if people who are 18 are allowed to drink.
11. Reduce Age Requirement for Reserve Component Soldiers/Sailors Retirement
This Petition is to allow the reduction of the age cap for reserve component soldiers and sailors who are in the U.S. Armed Forces(Reserve) and National Guard. The current age a retired person must be is 60 years of age. We would like to see the age limit reduced or eleminated. We would also like the funds to be placed in an account that draws intrest so the money can work for us. It is not right that soldiers and sailors who are in a reserve status, be called to active duty at any time, meet all the same training requirments, and not be treated the same when we retire with over 20 years of service. All we want is to be treated the same as the active duty forces. One Army, One Navy, One Air Force, One Corps all the way until the end, not just while on duty.
12. I will Listen for Silent Cries
The world is a dark place. So many suffer alone. They have no one to reach them so they cry on silently. Sometimes, they just need someone to reach out. To open the doors and let them in- a shoulder to cry on, or empathy. Don't turn your back on those that are hurting. Rather listen with your heart to hear those who are crying out silently. Be a hero in someone else's life. Listen.
13. Poll for Union in Wal Mart
People for Union in Wal Mart Stores. This is a poll for Wal Mart Workers who are PRO UNION. Wal Mart Workers who want the union please sign this petition.
14. Pro-Acceptance of Anorexics on the Web
Online censorship has reached new heights in this day and age, when Mothers Against Everything Under the Sun rule, and the massive witch-hunt of pro-anorexia sites that has been recently sweeping the web is an almost inevitable result of a society that bows down to them. As a result of overprotective parents and overly zealous webhosts who are eager to cater to their wishes, hundreds of sites have been shut down in one of the largest sweeps of censorship in the history of the web. Many of these allegedly "pro-ana" sites are actually pro-support, and their refusal to actively bash anorexics who are unwilling to recover has earned them hate mail and censorship by their free webhosts. Just having the word "anorexic" in a sentence, not followed by "recovery", is practically enough to get a site banned by free webhosts such as Angelfire and Yahoo. With such poor judgment in evaluating which sites are harmful and which are not, is it any surprise that this petition had to be written?
