1. Virginia Republican Primary Voters Disenfranchised

While other states’ primaries and caucuses are open to any GOP candidate, Virginia has strict rules over how many signatures are required. A candidate must have 10,000 valid signatures including at least 400 from every single district in the state in order to make the ballot.

Virginia does represent more than 10% of the total delegates required to obtain the nomination giving it powerful status in the race. Only a failed system excludes four out of the six major candidates seeking access to the ballot. Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender, especially leading candidates.

We demand the Republican Party of Virginia to change this policy or as a minimum to permit the write-in campaign before the election takes place to make sure that all the voters of Virginia are able to vote for the candidate of their choice.

2. Give Voters the Right to Recall Majlis Members

Maldives is currently facing the biggest hurdle so far in implementing the Constitution according to the president. The cabinet resigned recently, protesting the behaviour of opposition MPs who they said were “hijacking” the powers of the executive and making it impossible for the cabinet Ministers to discharge their constitutional duties and deliver the government’s election manifesto.

Forgetting the fact that we the people of this country voted for a presidential system of governance in the last referendum, the MPs started awarding themselves, powers given actually to the executive. It is time we change the electoral law to force MPs to seek vote of confidence through a constituency recall mechanism if they have been found guilty of unacceptable behaviour.

In the light of current political chaos and other ongoing outrages committed by Majlis Members, we demand the right for voters to be given the power to sack MPs by signing a petition to "recall" them.

MPs should be forced to seek immediate re-election if ten per cent of constituents sign up to the demand.

3. Restore Riverhead School District before/aftercare Transportaion

After seven (7) years of providing before and aftercare transportaion for school age children residing in Wading River attending Riverhead Schools (Riley Ave) the Superintendent deemed the location of Kiddie Academy Wading River as out of District by 1 1/2 blocks.

The District failed to notify either parents who attended Kiddie Academy or Kiddie Academy of their decision until a new neighbor went to register their child for September busing with the district. We feel the district has not given us ample time to appeal to the district voters, nor the education commissioner to petition for this decision. The district still has not formally notified any parent whose child is affected. We wish to appeal to the district and the board for a hold on their to decision for the school year 2009/2010 to allow for such an appeal and or alternative care and or work schedule.

There is no monetary expense for the district to bus these children to this location as they have to pass the location to provided busing to their homes.
