There has always been love for animals. When I learned about what little consequences there were for animal abuse and neglect, I decided that it was best to take action. Most animal neglect cases are only misdemeanors and people rarely see an institution or pay a high price for their crimes.
Animal abuse, abandonment, and lack of help are too common in our world, and this will help assist those who cannot help themselves. Most people who have pets know that they are wonderful companions, and that they will continue to be as long as they are cared for. Additionally, many people do not think about how unfortunate it is when an animal does not have a home. Immanuel Kant once said, "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men... We can judge the heart of a man by his dealings with animals." Anyone who would harm or neglect an animal most likely would harm or neglect a human too. A way to help prevent this would be stricter laws against anyone who abuses or neglects an animal. Help to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
2. Unjustified Rate Increases to Mining Tenures within the Etheridge Shire 
We the United Miners of the Etheridge Shire, draw to your attention the unfair, illegal and unjustified rate increases - without the Statutory Right to Appeal - on mining tenures.
The Etheridge Shire is located in Far North Queensland. It has a long and colourful mining history.
In the early 1980's our local Government commenced charging rates on mining tenures but without supplying any services. These rates have progressively increased with CPI.
On 15th August 2007, without any consultation with the community, ( as set out by law within the Local Government Act) the Etheridge Shire Council increased mining rates - in some instances over 1000%.
While this increase may have been sparked by record global commodity prices there is virtually no active mining within the Shire.
These rate increases are not sustainable and even if people decide to drop their mining tenures, that have possible cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars, they will still have to pay mining rents and rates for another 3 to 5 years to comply with the new mining and EPA regulations and bureaucratic red tape within the system.
The Etheridge Shire Council has also taken it upon themselves to remove the peoples Statutory Right to Appeal. The Etheridge Shire Council has also taken it upon themselves to rescind the right to pay off rates by installments.
There are many senseless and irrelevant programs being broadcasted on the radio and television in the metropolitan area where the crime rate is outrageously high.
I think that Radio One should cut some programs and devote at least one hour to the youth. Allowing them to call the station and express themselves about what's going on in there community, schools, and personal situations.
A counselor of some sort would also be available to answer questions and give advice. I also believe that BET should bring Teen Summit back. It would also be a good way for teens to receive information and speak on certain issues such as sex,gang violence,and STD's.
WPGC is my favorite radio station but I have an issue with them. They speak on violence in the city every chance they get but why not open up the lines for the youth to call in and express themselves. We have all these senseless programs on the radio but the biggest issue is left unattended.
I also have a big problem with my favorite television station BET. Who like I said about WPGC have discussed youth violence but where is the shows like Teen Summit? We need these programs back in the lives of the youth so there’s space and a place to air out issues. If we don’t reach out to our youth we will never know what’s really bothering them.

4. Ban all animals Circuses and all animal acts! speak for those who can't speak for themselves
Animals exploited for human entertainment face appalling treatment, pose threats to public health and safety, are currently not adequately regulated by state and federal laws, and do not conserve endangered species as is so often claimed.
I strongly believe that the standard industry tools and methods used to initially "break" and train animals throughout their lives, including the bullhook, chaining, food and water deprivation, use of whips, clubs and blunt objects, and electric prods, are incredibly inhumane. In addition, subjecting circus animals to travel for up to 11 months of the year for thousands of hours, over long distances, is unspeakably cruel. As you know, these animals may be chained while not performing, transported in vehicles that lack climate control, and forced to stand or lie in their own waste.
Wild animals used in public displays are dangerous — and even deadly. Recent incidents nationwide highlight the need for tighter restrictions on the exhibition of these animals. In addition to the many documented escapes and attacks by captive animals used for exhibition, elephants may carry tuberculosis (TB), and can infect humans with the bacterial disease.
Circuses are entertainment, not education. Watching wild animals perform unnatural tricks only teaches our children that it is acceptable to exploit animals; it does not teach respect for animals, nor does it help animals in the wild. Animal-free circuses and entertainment, such as Cole Brothers Circus and Cirque du Soleil, are growing as the use of wild animals becomes recognized as archaic, unsafe and inhumane.
For the sake of human safety and animal welfare, please stop using animals in Carson &Barnes,Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey.
People who support the circus should be ashamed of themselves. To sit there and watch these animals suffer a lot of them die and kill people. Do you blame them? I am so angry about this and how can you buy a show and sit there and watch them suffer?
5. Moderation of Matt the Moderator
For the past month Matt has done a great job in Brischat contributing to clean up the community and introduce a healthy chat environment. However there have been several kickings in which decent and actively positive members of the Brischat community, have confronted Matt in a civil and respectful manner about why people have been kicked, and inturn kicked themselves without warning or reason.
There have also been times people have been booted just because of Matt’s pure annoyance. Matt has also used sarcasm on many an occasion which in turn alienates the positive members of the Brischat community, and turns them away from coming back. The point of this cleanup is to introduce a positive chat environment and clear up the mess so people can enjoy themselves.
This is a community chatroom, and matt does have a certain level of responsibility as a moderator to respect the wishes and good of the general community. Treat unto those as how you wish to be treated. Sign this petition if you have been booted for the above reasons, including Alias, Reason, or what you witnessed.

6. Fight Against Illegally Assisted-Suicide, Help Save Lives, Abolish Pro-Eating Disorder Websites

Each and every year, many women, of all ages, are killing themselves. These women and young girls are not committing suicide by hanging themselves or overdosing on pills. These women are suffering from anorexia nervosa. They are starving themselves to death.
However, these women are not doing it on their own; they are being aided in their slow suicide. This act of assisted suicide is illegal in 49 out of 50 states. With the help of pro-anorexia or, as they are more commonly called, "pro-ana" websites, visitors to these sites, usually young, female adolescents, looking to lose weight or who are already in the midst of an eating disorder, can obtain weight loss tips and tricks on how to hide their eating disorder from family and friends. These websites promote behaviors, which lead to osteoporosis, irregular heart beat, cardiac disease, seizures, nerve damage, heart attack and death.
Oregon is currently the only U.S. state, in which assisted-suicide is legal. Under the Death with Dignity Act, physicians are permitted to administer a lethal dose of medication to those suffering from a terminal illness. To qualify for physician-assisted suicide, one must meet a specific set of criterion. They must be at least 18 years of age, an Oregon resident, capable of making, as well as communicating health care decisions for themselves, and have been diagnosed with a terminal illness that will result in death in six month of less.
A terminal illness is an incurable disease, which is active, progressive and expected to lead to death. Anorexia is not a terminal illness. An anorectic showing up at an Oregon clinic wishing to receive assistance in ending her life, would be turned down, almost immediately, regardless of how much physical and emotional pain she was in, on the grounds that she did not meet the criteria of having a terminal illness. Though escaping from and living without an eating disorder may seem impossible to one who is suffering from an eating disorder, it is not impossible.
Anorexia can and has, many times, been cured. Though it is not easy to make a complete recovery, with the right treatment techniques and professionals, it is possible, even for those with the poorest of prognoses.
If suicide assisted by a physician is only legal in one state, and if anorexia does not meet the legal criteria, than the people who make these pro-ana websites, and those who offer these tips and tricks on "how to kill yourself", featured on these sites, have absolutely no right, legally, morally, or ethically, to be doing so. They are assisting others in suicide, which is something they have no right to be doing, seeing as we barely give medical doctors the right do so. Furthermore, to receive physician-assisted suicide, you must be of legal age to give consent.
Many of the girls who are visiting these websites are under the age of 18. They could not receive physician-assisted suicide if they were suffering from a terminal illness, therefore, it cannot possibly be legal for any stranger on the internet, who also may be under 18, to be assisting these young girls in their suicide attempts.
Research has shown that those who frequently visit pro-eating disorder websites spend more time in the hospital than those who do not visit these sites. These websites have very serious impacts on people. A young girl, thinking she is fat and needs to lose a few pounds, may stumble upon one of these websites. What happens next may be unthinkable. But, most likely she will look around the website, reading the various tips and tricks to drop weight quickly, but hide it from those around her. She will learn that you can eat whatever you want, but not gain a pound because you can purge yourself of the calories, using exercise, laxatives or vomiting. She will see pictures, or "thinspiration" of thin, rich, smiling, actresses and models.
What she will not see is pictures of emaciated bodies, with extremely dry skin and fine, laguno hair covering their bones. She will not see their eroding tooth enamel, or their ulcers, the dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. She will not see their thinning hair or heart arrhythmias. She will not see their hurt, their sadness and depression, or their broken hearts. She will not see their death. She will see the thin, glamorous models and actresses and wish to look like them. So, she will start to diet and lose weight, thinking she is in control of her actions. She will be recognized and praised for her weight loss, especially by the network of "friends" she has made through pro-ana websites.
They will encourage her to "keep up the good work" and not to "give in to the enemy (food) now". She will feel good about herself and think "I just want to lose five more pounds; Five more and then I will have the perfect body." However, she loses five more and the praise and positive comments and encouragement continue. Five turns into ten, ten into twenty, twenty into forty, forty into the hospital. All of a sudden, the young girl who just wanted to lose a few pounds and was in control of her diet, is now being controlled by her behaviors. She can't stop.
This is not one scenario, this is the course the majority of eating disorders take. This is the very reason why these websites need to be shut down. The rate of eating disorders is rising. The importance we place on beauty and our attitudes towards what we consider attractive, combined with websites such as these are contributing to the increasing prevalence of eating disorders. We must change our beauty ideal and shut down websites such as these, which are promoting self-starvation. Anorexia nervosa is a serious, life-threatening physical and an extremely emotionally painful disease that no one should ever have to experience.
Members of the pro-ana community may argue it is a violation of their rights to be censored. However, freedom of speech does not give anyone the right to help kill another person.
7. Promote HIV/AIDS Education and Relief of Poverty in Africa

The Mother and Child African Relief Organization (MACARO), a non-profit organization registered in New York (1992) under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code, is accorded special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) (1997), and is also registered in Freetown, Sierra Leone as an International Non-Governmental Organization.
In addition, the process of registering the organization in Monrovia, Liberia is now in progress.
The organisation wishes to promote HIV/AIDS education and the relief of poverty.

9. Do not force a new Canadian election!
Dear Honourable Stephen Harper and associate Members of Parliament;
As stated in the Globe and Mail, on Thursday April 28th, 2005, the honourable Stephen Harper will move to bring a no-confidence vote against the liberal government in the following month. Such an action has dire consequences for both Canadian Democracy, and the faith one has in Canadian Politics.
Although this faith has been repeatedly shattered, given the claims of corruption brought forth in regards to the sponsership scandal and the Gomery inquiry, forcing an election prior to the release of the report would undermine Canadian's ability to judge for themselves whether the Liberal government has lost the 'moral authority' to govern. While there is much anger with the Liberal Government, in Quebec and throughout Canada, for the sake of democracy, Canadians must be able to judge for themselves the scope of the injustice of the sponsership scandal. As a result, an election should not be forced until the Gomery Report has been produced.
Secondly, such an election would be a waste of both time that lawmakers could spend doing their job, as well as of the taxpayers money. Millions were lost in the sponsership scandal, but just how many more millions would be lost in an election that would produce near-identical results as the previous one. It is highly doubtful that given the divided support of Canadians an election would result in anything other than another minority government. As a result, it would be likley that such an election would produce a conservative or liberal minority government to be toppled once again a year or so after its formation. In other words, the question must arise, "Why must an election be held now?"
It is obvious that the Conservative Party's answer to this is that the liberal government has lost all moral authority to govern. However, this sponsership scandal is hardly new to this minority government, as it was equally an issue in the previous federal election of 2004. The only change is the production of the Gomery report revealing the details of the scandal. And that is exactly why the federal election should wait until at the very least the entire report has been released. Let the Canadian people see for themselves the details of the corruption first hand. There should be no reason for the Canadian people to have to rely on the media's point of view of the Gomery inquiry. It should be released to the public PRIOR to any move for a federal election.
Finally, in June 2004, the Canadian people expressed their wish to have a divided parliament. There was no clear majority, which proves to the legistlature that the Canadian people are divided. The Canadian elected the LIBERAL party as GOVERNING party, the CONSERVATIVE party as OPPOSITION, and both the NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY and PARTI BLOC QUEBECOIS as significant but smaller OPPOSITION parties. Therefore, each of these parties should work towards comprimises which BEST REFLECT the WILL of the Canadian People. A Minority Parliament is an expression of the Canadain People's desire for comprimise.
10. Identify Murderers Upon Release From Jail/Prison
My Son, was murdered by Shawn Green, a person on probation. I would like to get a Law in Darryl's Name (Hayes) that would make murderes identify themselves to the police station upon their release from prison/jail.
The community needs to know who the murderers are upon their release back into society.
11. A Place for the Citizens Of Tecumseh to enjoy !!
The people of Tecumseh would like to have an area for children, teenagers, and the general public to get jobs, entertain, and enjoy themselves. We, the people, would like to show you how much we want to stay away from crime and violence if only we have the choice.
12. A Cystic Fibrosis Centre in Toronto
We, the undersigned, hereby wish for there to be a full time health centre for people living with cystic fibrosis. This would allow for a place, outside of hospitals, where families and individuals can go to receive treatments, be cared for when they're ill, and speak to others dealing with the same medical problems as themselves.
13. Stop animal testing in the UK
Please stop animal testing. Animals don't deserve to be treated this way. They have completely different DNA to us so I don't see how testing our shampoos and cosmetics on poor innocent animals is going to help. I think if they want to test cosmetics on something scientists should test them on themselves.
14. Leave St Helens House for training Adults and put your registry office in the Old Police Building
It is beyond belief that the St Helens House buidings are under threat of change of use. The concept of helping people who are less able to work or disabled in any way was founded in Derby at this address and has a good reputation of success helping those who help themselves advance or ready themselves for re-introduction into the workforce in Derby.
This will be a disasterous loss if the changes proposed by my Council take place in April 2004 and it is also preposterous that those working or training there had no idea, until it was let slip during a radio Derby broadcast. This building is also steeped in historical value and I challenge them that it is illegal to change the use of a listed building after it has received a preservation order. I beg the people of Derby to sign my petition to save this wonderfull historical building in its present form and use.
The RIAA, or the Record Industry Association of America controls a good portion of the record industry. Over the years, they are pushing for laws that would prevent them from downloading anything "Copyrighted". This is a problem because the ways they pursue their goals are unconstitutional, and unfair. Ever since the AHRA was enacted, every CD-R has a hidden tax added into the price, approx 2% of the manufacturers sales. This is supposed to go to the artists, but instead, the tax goes to the RIAA. The worst part of it is not one artist that was paid a cent of the money. 4% is set aside for non-featured artists, of the remainder 40% for the featured artist and 60% for the labels. To date not one artist who has received one cent of this money. (Source: RIAA website. Every CD recorder also has a $2.00 surcharge added onto the price, of which goes directly to the RIAA. This all jacks up prices at retail stores, which is a problem because not everybody wants to pay $15 - $20 for a CD. The NRAA also pushes for acts and laws to prevent people from downloading MP3 files, or anything free. They recently sued college students, and wanted them jailed for downloading MP3s on their computer. THEY ARE JUST TEENAGERS! Why not go after Nintendo for putting Sonic the Hedgehog on the Gamecube with this logic then? Here are some examples of what they want:
(1.) Hacking into the computer (which is also ILLEGAL), and knocking you off line if they find you downloading MP3s, and disable your system (2.) Using software that would go into a computer, and deletes the MP3s (3.) Suing the individual school students, or college students (4.) Pushing for laws that would make all computers be installed with spy-ware that would prevent people from downloading MP3s, or other files.
This is a clear violation of our 1st and 4th amendment rights. These laws would also be a heavy violation of the 4th amendment, which states " We the undersigned feel that we should be able, under certain guidelines, be able do download files freely. Ideas ranging from sites that only have MP3s from artists who allow this practice, or a site where a ONE TIME ONLY fee would be paid, and the persons would have access to all the files he/she wanted, and the best thing would be that the money would go directly to the artists themselves. We also feel that the artists who produce the music should get most of the money, and not the recording industries. With new cheaper, yet better quality technology, the artists of music would be able to produce their music & music videos, and release them on the web without having to loose money to the greedy recording industries. To conclude, we feel that the RIAA goes too far, and hurts themselves more than people who share MP3s on the net. We might need some regulating on the MP3 scene, but lobbying unconstitutional laws by big, corrupt industries, and arresting the people who can't possibly pay up charges is the wrong way to go. Please listen to our plea, and do something about the RIAA today before our constitutional rights and freedoms are trampled on by greed and power.
16. Stop Pro Anorexia Web Sites
These Web sites promote self harming and deadly behaviour and make it seem as if having anorexia is a gift. You don't see any one creating web sites like " Yay , Let's get cancer!". These Websites have pictures of anorexic girls with huge writing saying discusting things like " Anorexic Queen" and "Never too thin". These Websites basically promote people killing themselves. Not only to these sites have gross pictures they have dieting tips and ways to hide food from your parents. We say, STOP THIS !!!
17. Defending Children Who Can Not Defend Themselves
To stop the killing of children in Australia using the name "abortion".
We who add our names to this petition, in speaking for those unable to speak for themselves, ask that abortions in Australia be stopped now.
18. Justice for children in the UK
WHY do we allow our judicial system to continually fail to protect our
children?
WHY do we not have adequate laws in place to remove the thousands of
KNOWN pedophiles from our communities, and thus offer at least SOME
protection to our children?
WHY do those that hold poltical power continually refuse to
implement Sarah's Law?
WHY are the 'civil rights' and 'freedom' of those that prey upon our
children deemed more important than the children's themselves?
WHY are those who by their own actions put themselves outside the
rules that govern a supposed civilised society deemed worthy of ANY
rights civil or otherwise? Their very actions constitute a
relequishment of such rights.
WHY is the punishment for those guilty of these horrific acts not
commensurate with crime?
WHY, when we know that there will be other children, do we allow the liberal 'apologists' to determine the agenda re: the
reintroduction of the death penalty for such acts? Their generalised
arguments significantly fails to acknowledge the advancement in
forensic science, and hence conclusive proof of guilt.
WHY do we not have a national, specialised police section, trained to
deal specifically with child abduction and paedophile activity?
WHY do we KNOW that the lives of yet MORE innocent children will be
taken and families destroyed, while the powers that be continue to
shirk their CIVIL and HUMAN responsibilites, giving us all the
right 'soundbites' but ultimately doing NOTHING
19. For The Love of Luka and Abby
Avid "ER" fans are fully aware of the past relationship which entailed the lives of Dr. Luka Kovac and Nurse Abby Lockhart. The fans of this NBC top-rated primetime drama who found themselves infatuated by the idea of Luka and Abby together are fighting to correct the wrongs made by the "ER" writers, and in doing so, bring Luka and Abby into each other's arms once more. This petition is being created in hopes that it can be used to awaken the producers/writers/etc. of "ER" to recreate the love that these two characters had at one time.
20. Limit Youth Access to Pro-Ana websites
The internet is a very powerful tool that can be used to reach many people. Unfortunately, when you reach many people, you reach an audience commonly found to have a herd mentality. This is so for any age group, however, teenagers often have this mentality augmented by a poor self-image of themselves. There are sites out there that are less of a support group, and more of a feeding frenzy of the triggers that make people fall into this idea that they should starve themselves. This only works hand in hand with the media saying that these models with lower-than-healthy BMI's are the epitome of beauty.
My point is this. Though we can't control the media, we can try and make it so that there are restrictions at the front pages of these pro-ana sites. Making it an offense similar tas with a pornography site stating that minors should not enter into the site any further without knowingly risking state level prosecutions. I have seen genuinly supportful pro-ana sites. But even still the line between these two types is almost as thin as the pictures of women shown there. If State and Federal Laws are passed making it illegal for minors to view the pictures deemed inappropriate or harmful, we will be treating just like every other offensive, unhealthy or potentially harmful practice such smoking or drinking. This is the stance that the Pro-ana supporers take when speaking about the decisions they have made as adults. Provide young people with a means for support and expression, but have a commissioned group to decide if a site in question should be deemed inappropriate of minors. After all, you won't see AA host their meetings in a liqour store.
21. All Enron recipients, must recuse themselves from investigation to avoid the look of impropriety...
Anyone who accepted money from Enron needs to recuse themselves. I think it is pretty petty of the Democrats to keep trying to pounce on our President. I know they want to get elected, but this is stupid. We are talking pot and kettle here, and my Mom always said the bit dog hollers first.
I think instead of playing Politics, they should work together for the good of the Nation. It is time we play fair.
In light of the recent events involving Enron, the massive amounts of money received by those who would investigate, point fingers and name names. In our opinion, we believe that anyone who received money from this company should recuse themselves from the investigation, and stop the appearance of impropriety.
22. Do not put people arrested for drug use in prison with hard criminals
I think that people arrested for marijuana use should not be placed in prison with murderers, rapists, arsonists, and theives. The only crimes these people are committing are against themselves. Now drug DEALERS, that's a different story, especially if they're dealing more harmful drugs than cannibus. These sleezeballs should be put in jail with 300 pound men named bubba who haven't had a 'friend' in a while. Anyway... first of all, i think marijuana should be legalized, but since it's not, i think that people who are arrested for marijuana use should be put in their own jail. Where, as Dennis Miller puts it, they can sit around on the floor and watch cartoons or play hacky-sack all day. Because what they did wasn't hurting anyone else. They are not committing crimes against humanity. It's like cigarette smoking; it's their decision and they're only hurting themselves. Please support my petition!!!!!!!!!!!!!
23. Abolish Smokers to Another Planet
I vote to rid our planet of the dirty, stinking smokers who have little regard for others when they light up.
It only takes one smoker in a room to destroy 100 other people's fresh air. It only takes one smoker to kill not only themself but numerous others with passive smoking. It only takes one smoker to create a burden on the health care system, which takes money away from the people who need it (and haven't contributed to making themselves ill). I have no compassion for the rights of smokers, because no smokers have any sense of responsibility for any one else when they light up (let alone themselves).
24. Stop scientists from cloning humans
IT IS PATENT that human cloning should not proceed to the clinical research stage. A moratorium on clinical trials of human cloning is warranted on safety grounds, as there is no pathway from animal to pre-clinical to clinical human experimentation that would not involve significant risks to human children. As we have noted elsewhere, it is doubtful even in the long term that an individual or couple will present a rationale for the use of human cloning technologies that is compelling when balanced against the risks.
Leading cloning experts and developmental biologists have told that the cloning process seemed to create random errors in the expression of individual genes -- mistakes that can produce any number of unpredictable problems, at any time in life.
Among the defects routinely encountered among clones are mice which grow to be enormously obese, and cows born with enlarged hearts or lungs that do not develop properly, according to the Times.
During World War II, the Nazis implemented a program of eugenics with the aim of eliminating "undesirables" from the human gene pool. Setting ethics aside, from a purely biological point of view, when you begin to artificially manipulate the gene pool by cloning, you may lower diversity and place the population at an increased risk for death on a large scale because of environmental changes.
There are genuine ethical concerns involved with the potential for human cloning. Currently, people have not come up with any compelling reason to pursue human cloning that would override these ethical concerns about using human clones. Husain writes, "I hope that the leaders in our community of science are stable enough to trust themselves with risky research." Does he have enough trust to let them to decide for themselves whether such risky research is inherently worthwhile?
