92. Immigration Clinic at Wash U

Over the years, students have informally voiced their desire to add an Immigration Clinic to Wash U's top-rated clinical program. Considering the large number of potential clients in the St. Louis area and the enthusiastic student response, it is unclear why the law school has not moved on this.

In order to quantify student interest, we would like to poll students here. If you would like to support the addition of an Immigration Clinic, please note that in the space provided.

93. Move Gateway West

We, the residents of Cassia County are strongly opposed to the proposed corridor of the Gateway West Project through private property.

We feel it should be placed on as much public ground as possible to protect our families, our homes, and our businesses.

We should not have to submit ourselves to undo risks when there are other alternatives. We support our county commissioners in routing the project through public grounds.

94. BAN KPS GILL FILM

KPS Gill was the Director General of Punjab police (now retired) in the late 80s up to 1995 who was responsible for the atrocities afflicted upon thousands of Sikhs.

Now some racist Indians/Hindu extremists are sponsoring a film about him. It is very clear that they intend to portray him as some kind ‘super cop’.
The intention is to portray Singhs and Singhneeah who fought for our rights as terrorists. It’s in a long line of films that have been made that criticise and mock Sikhs, as they say on Sikh Channel (Sky 840) there’s a media war going on out there, we have got to act and make sure we let these people know we will not stand for this kind of subverted discrimination!!
We have to act! We have written a protest letter and created posters. We need the Sangats support in mailing thousands of these letters to various organisations if 100,000 Sikhs (out of 30 million+) send 10 letters each to 10 different organisations they will have to take action! We need to send as many as we can and alert as much Sangat as we can!!!
Sikhs have suffered inhumane torture, kidnappings, abuse, rape, murder and barbaric treatment at the hands of the so called officers of the law in Punjab.

95. No Uniforms for Schools in the Bay County District School System

I am actively working on efforts to gain support within the Bay County Community to show our School Board that a vote to require that all students grades K-12 wear uniforms to Public School.

Not only is the cost unattainable to some low-income families, but changing from the very lenient dress code that is currently in place to one that is far more strict will be a change that will meet much resistance.

Please keep up with my blog as i will let you know about Petition efforts, Public Hearings where your support would be greatly appreciated, and ways in which you can voice your own concerns to your School Board before they vote on August 4, 2009.

96. The Steel City Derby Is One Of The World's Finest - So Give The Coverage We Deserve!

On the 16th Oct 1893 Sheffield gave birth the the Steel City Derby, being considered widely as one of the most passionate and hotly contested football games in the history of the sport with it's ability to place an evident divide down the middle of our fine city as the fans from both Sheffield teams pledge their allegiance in their own club.

In excess of 115 years later and 123 games later the Steel City Derby is still as passionate and as big as it ever has been in the city and surprisingly no real team has any real bragging rights or can claim to be dominant over the other as in total Sheffield United only lead Wednesday by 3 games in the total number of games won.

I'm not going to go into it much but over the history of the Steel City Derby the fans of both Sheffield teams have witnessed some pretty memorable games, and in the nineties the two teams competed down at the old Wembley stadium in a cup semi-final which believe it or not saw an attendance of roughly 75,000 people travel down to the capital from our fine city.

Sooooo.........I ask you this! Considering the significance of The Steel City Derby which is widely renound as a passionate affair and great entertainment for even the neutral spectator, Why do we only find our games between the two clubs televised once a season??? When sky clearly show favouritism when opting for coverage of less significant games and even Derby games which in theory aren't even genuine Derby games showing teams who play many away from each other??

This needs to change, and the only way we can make Sky take any notice of us is for the people of Sheffield to join forces together in Support of The Steel City Derby and to show just how much it means to us, and how significant we feel it is for them to give us the coverage that we deserve!

Therefore please take a minute to sign this petition which will be presented to Sky TV when a significant amount of Signatures have been collected!

Come On Sheffielders lets show Sky what The Steel City Derby is all about and just how much it means to us as fans and to our fine city!

100. One-To-One Education Support

In early 2008, Gordon Brown pledged to help 300,000 children in primary schools through one-to-one support. One-to-one support is mainly for those children who have difficulty keeping up in class. An additional teacher will help them out in doing so and making sure they understand it properly as a class teacher is often very busy.

However, by June 2009, research has shown that instead of being close to helping the 300,000 children that were promised help, this figure has only risen to 3,500 on average in the whole of the UK. This is not even half of what was pledged.

Ministers have talked for years about introducing better and more accesible one-to-one support. But nothing has ever been done. Only a tiny fraction of children in need of this support actually recieve it, and this is after being 'looked over' by a group of 'professional educationalists'.

484 schools IN ENGLAND have joined the one-to-one tuition programme, but little progress has been made. And what about Scotland? Where is our help?

Schools are becoming more and more accessible for disabled children (through ramps, elevators, etc), but schools seem to fail to help these children educationally when in a mainstream school.

Is this really acceptable in modern day society?

101. Support fathers' rights

For years now My husband has been fighting to see his son. His name was not put on the birth certificate as the father but yet he is still responsible to pay child support, and yet he is not allowed to see him. He has a court order to see him but the mother doesn't allow it. Yet she still wants the money.

The child does not know my husband is his father, he does not call him dad, nor does he want to come here. He calls another man dad. I believe that in a case like this why should we have to pay for a child we have nothing to do with?

103. Petition for Adequate Staffing of CPS Schools

We demand an end to the sabotage of our schools. Every year, many schools, often the same schools CPS later wants to “turnaround”, end up short staffed. New staff are not hired until at least the 20th school day, causing classes to be overcrowded, without teachers, and resulting in massive schedule changes in October. Because enrollment is underestimated, kindergarteners are forced into classes of 40 students while the school waits for the board to approve another teacher.

In most cases, this travesty contributes to the educational disparities of students who already have social and economic disadvantages. The CPS formula for assigning teachers allows for no flexibility, and leads to split level classes, dropped electives, and overcrowded classes.

A formula that took into consideration the students’ needs would allow for smaller classes and more teacher availability.

104. We strongly support Supervisor Chris Daly’s rent control amendments

Sign the Petition to Protect Tenants Rights During the Economic Crisis!

As the economic crisis worsens and unemployment is rising, tenants are finding it harder and harder to pay their rent. In San Francisco, we are organizing to help tenants afford their rents by supporting the following key amendments to the local rent control ordinance: 1) Suspend any rent increases which will cause a tenant’s rent to exceed 33% of their income; 2) Expand the rights of tenants to add roommates to help pay the rent; and 3) Limit the amount of “banked” rent increases which can be imposed in any one year. Landlords are building a strong opposition against these tenant rights proposals. We need your support. Please join our efforts and sign our on-line petition.

105. It's About Time

We were promised properly resourced quality nursing/midwifery services
- Public Sector nurses and midwives across metropolitan South Australia are taking action because the State Government has failed to deliver on its promise to support positive and resourced quality nursing and midwifery services.

It’s about time that these resources are delivered
- A promise was made, in February 2007, to provide more nursing and midwifery staff for direct clinical care so that other nursing and midwifery staff (including Level 2 and 3) could spend time performing activities that have an important impact on patients.
- Since this time, we have repeatedly requested that the resources be provided.
- To date, we have not been provided with a response or timeframe.

It’s the time we need to provide quality patient careThe failure to resource quality nursing/midwifery services has a negative impact on patient care. Failure to meet the promise means that less time is available for important work including:
- Quality improvement
- Infection control
- Rostering (ensuring adequate and appropriate staff on shift)
- Clinical teaching supervision / support of new staff
- Professional / knowledge development and resources
- Co-ordination management and planning.

We have exhausted all other options to make the State Government deliver
- Because we have not received a response, we are taking action so that the State Government will provide us with the resources we need to provide quality nursing/midwifery services.
- We regret that we have been forced to take action, but we are taking action because of our commitment to the community and your health needs.
- We ask for your patience and support in our campaign – this is a campaign to ensure the community gets quality nursing/midwifery services and that’s why ‘It’s About Time’.

107. Save Our Economy: Legalize Marijuana in California! Support A.B. 390

Students for Sensible Drug Policy is asking for your support of Assembly Bill 390, the Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act -- the first bill ever introduced to legalize the sale and use of marijuana in California.

As introduced, this groundbreaking proposal would raise over $1 billion in annual revenue by taxing the retail production and sale of marijuana for adults over 21 years of age.

The bill would not alter existing legislation on the use of medicinal cannabis, nor would it impose new taxes or sanctions on the medical cultivation of cannabis.

Assembly Bill 390 proposes to make California the first state in the nation to enact a rational public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana. Please show your support for this measure by contacting your California Assembly members and urging them to support the Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act.

108. Change the Child Support Laws of Missouri

Child support laws in this country needs to be changed drastically. The laws are to broad and generalized and need to be guidelined for individual circumstances. Everyone knows someone that is being drug through the mud because of child support.

Granted there are those fathers that won't support their children, those that are making the effort to do so shouldn't be punished. Child support should not be set up to support the custodial parent's (usually the mother) whole family.

It should not be something that can be completely dependent on. Some parents use child support to intimidate other parents which means there is too much power behind it.

111. The Stand for Change

Our recommendations are:

1) That all Health Care Aids and Personal Support Workers should be regulated, organized and accountable.

2) That there be stricter screening of Personal Support Workers before enrollment in courses.

3) That all schools are providing proper education and training of Personal Support Workers. We need more quality, not just quantity.

4) That the practice of handing out Personal Support Worker certificates to keep Canada's unemployment rate down, be ceased.

5) That a much needed support group, to help Health Care Aids and Personal Support Workers deal with the many issues that face them every day, be established.

6) That a stronger network be built with employers, registered staff and the public, so we can enhance the lives of our seniors, eliminate seniors abuse and improve working conditions for front line workers.

113. Save the Early Childhood Centre Services

The Sydney Southwest Area Health Service is planning to cut crucial services from their Early Childhood Centre Program.

One of the main changes includes the ceasing of the Tuesday morning drop-in service in the Balmain Early Childhood Centre (and no doubt other centres as well). This change will come into effect in mid-December and this decision was implemented without any consultation with the community at large.

The drop-in service has provided regular and accessible help to many parents in an informal setting and has also provided an important supportive forum for many parents to meet other parents.

It is essential for many parents to help care for their young children because babies needs are often immediate and cannot wait until planned appointments which are only available weeks in advance.

Many parents in Balmain are from interstate, overseas or country areas and are separated from their support networks. They rely heavily on formal services for support.

More changes - such as ceasing information forums like 'Introducing Solids' - are planned and something needs to be done to show the SSWAHS that these services are vital for the health and well being of our babies and parents and to ensure that no more services are taken away.

Please help us protect the mental and physical health of our babies and parents in Balmain and other suburbs within the Sydney South West Area and sign this petition to have our Early Childhood Services re-instated and to ensure that future changes to the Early Childhood Program be thoroughly debated by the community.

114. Petition in Support of Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand and Lesley Douglas

Obviously you would have read thoroughly the BBC Trust report and are therefore aware of the BBC’s Editorial failings. We would like to refer to the following points contained therein:-

• ‘Russell Brand’s reaction on the recording suggests he knew the programme had gone too far because he said that while it might be possible to cut the remark from the programme it could not be retrieved from Andrew Sachs’s voicemail.’

• ‘Jonathan Ross, for his part, said he made it clear to Russell Brand at the time that the material should be included only if both Andrew Sachs and Georgina Baillie consented.’

Both Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand expressed concerns over the material being broadcast prior to airing.

• 23rd October ‘According to Ms Poole, the Mail on Sunday contacted her again and made it clear that it intended to publish a story whether or not her client commented. She says that at that point Mr Sachs resolved to make a complaint and asked Ms Poole to do so on his behalf. That evening at 17:20 she sent an email to the Controller of Radio 2.’

• 25th October ‘the Controller sent a text message to the Director of Audio & Music alerting him to the Mail on Sunday story’ ‘ for info the Mail often do damning pieces about Russell or Jonathan’

Clearly, Mr Sachs only made formal complaint to the BBC after pressure was applied to his agent Meg Poole, by the Mail/ Mail on Sunday, who obviously have something against these two performers.

• 29th October ‘mark thompson said I have decided that it is not appropriate for either Russell Brand or Jonathan Ross to continue broadcasting on the BBC until I have seen the full report of the actions of all concerned.’
OK Mark Thompson has seen it now, airing ‘that’ segment of the show was clearly the responsibility of the Editors, Head of Compliance and/ or The Controller as the Trust report found.

So let them back! With regard to The Controller Lesley Douglas, rather than accepting the resignation of someone with obvious great talent in this field wouldn’t it be better to train or re-iterate Policy to her?

As far as we have seen both Brand and Ross use material and language appropriate to the audience and type of programme that they are taking part in and are clearly not to blame for this. There was no real need for any suspensions/ resignations and only some more training/ tighter procedures were required in this instance. Perhaps these resignations were acquired by pressure to the 3 from the BBC who were put under considerable strain by the ‘witch hunt’ concocted by the Daily Mail.

Please don’t let a tabloid newspaper dictate OUR BBC’s programming, we accept there are some people who don’t like Ross and Brand, but for those we would say there’s an off button on your radios and TVs.

PLEASE LET THEM BACK TO WORK

116. Derryn Hinch Support Petition

In April 2008 Radio Broadcaster and Journalist Mr Derryn Hinch launched a campaign to have the Victorian Government pass laws that enables the identities of serial rapists and child sex offenders to be publicly named to protect the local and the broader community upon release.

Within Mr Hinch's own website (http://www.hinch.net) and most importantly the rally held on the steps of the Victorian Parliament House, Mr Hinch is now facing a possible 5 charges that will result in either large fines or a term of imprisonment through naming and shaming 2 convicted paedophiles.

Mr Hinch's intent was always to highlight a serious discrepancy in the Victorian Governments judicial system, so that a judge or magistrate cannot suppress the identity of a serious sex offender unless such identification will also identify a victim when the offender is released within the community.

Mr Hinch also developed an online petition website that can be viewed at www.namethemshamethem.com which clearly indicates the support for his cause with individual comments.

117. Our Very Own Boris

An elected Mayor is not the traditional civic head who chairs council meetings and raises money for charities, the civic Mayor would remain unchanged. An elected Mayor is in effect an elected leader of the council with full executive powers.

I firmly beleive that a directly elected Mayor is more accountable to the electorate and more in touch with their views. They would not have to be a politician but have the ability to understand the political process.

120. We seek support from rest of India

J & K Governor Gen, Sinha surveyed condition of pilgrims of Amarnath yatra & found that people have to relax in open tents and therefore he signed a project for constucting permanent shelters for pilgrims and alotted 100 acres (800 cannals) of land to shrine board after passing it in J & K assembly.

The Forest Minister in the Cabinet was from the PDP, a coalition partner in the government. Yet they (the PDP) refused to accept responsibility for the joint decision (of allocating forest land to set up temporary structures for facilities for Hindu pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra) Then PDP and some Pro-pakistan parties started agitating against decision with anti nationalist slogans and ransacking public property.

The Congress sans PDP minority Govt took decision back and surrendered in front of these anti nationalist and fundamentalist forces. People of Jammu started agitating against this anti national, anti harmony decision with all groups together. Later jammu muslim comunity supported agitation through a press conference. When Omar Abdullah gave statement in parliament that his people will not give an inch of land to pilgrims or shrine board ; emotions n sentiments of jammu people ran high and one of the protesters KULDIP DOGRA commited sucide in front of 500 people.

At 3:00 am next day police took his body after beating his family, AND STARTED cremating HIS BODY BEFORE SUNRISE AT 4:00 AM WHICH IS AGAINST HINDUISUM. one of the family member used local temple loudspeaker and informed people, Anger rose high and people started beating police .Police hit back and violent agitation turned into massive rallies with more than 40,000 people. Police killed 2 protesters days after. Latest opression is that Local Cable TV as well as SMSes have been banned in Jammu.

Most sadly these people are not getting required support from national media against such dictatorship and their lonely battle is still ON.
