Even though the MAC class has been proven this year to be very successful, these teachers have felt very little support and appreciation for their hard work and innovation.
In addition to wonderful in class teaching, these teachers are also the foundation for many of the great extra curricular programs at WES including noon hour activities, 100 day celebrations, French week, math club, math days and many others. On the inset of every White Pages telephone book in Australia is a listing of 24-hour emergency numbers such as poison information centre, alcohol and drug counselling, and the 000 of ambulance, fire and police. There is also the number for Pregnancy Counselling Australia, which appears to be a support service for women on the issue of pregnancy. In reality, the service is run by Right to Life Australia, a political, anti-choice organisation.
This telephone service is unlikely to give unbiased, independent counselling to women. The telephone lines at Pregnancy Counselling Australia are often diverted to the homes of volunteers who are unsupervised and not adequately trained to be "counselling". This service is misleading. It traumatises women and isolates those in need of support.
This petition asks Sensis, the corporation that manages the White Pages, to have Pregnancy Counselling Australia delisted.

The free speech rights of Howard Stern are being violated by the US Government via the FCC. Since Howard came out against George W. Bush he is being made a target of a secret investigation by Michael Powell's FCC. Howard has elected to support John Kerry on the air but Kerry has already spoken against Howard when Kerry said Clear Channel was right to pull Howard's show from 6 markets. While it is a top priority to get Bush out of office, Kerry may be just as bad unless we the people (and Sterns fans)can convince him in advance of the election to come out against the FCC or at least for Howard's free speech rights. The FCC should not be able to decide what is indecent for us to listen to on the radio in the morning. Those who support taking that minor pleasure from us are wrong-headed and controlling and will eventually destroy our constitution and country with their minority holier than thou attitudes. They are winning the fight but we have not lost the war. Please sign and distribute this petition which will tell Kerry how many registered voters will vote for Nader if Kerry doesn't comply. It seems like the least we could ask of him as we swing the election in his favor.

John Kerry, the undersigned petitioners are registered voters or promise they will register to vote in the November election. These voters are adult fans of Howard Stern and are concerned that the right to free speech in our country is being violated by a vocal minority. John Kerry these people pledge to give you our votes but only if prior to the election you take a stand to eliminate the FCC or drastically cut back it's ability to control the "content" of our airwaves. You should realize that a small number of people organize groups of their followers to duplicate complaints and sway the FCC (not to mention advertisers and broadcasters) to penalize broadcasters for barely adult content. The Howard Stern show is certainly not "obscene" and "indecent" is such an arguable word that a court should decide, not a group of politically appointed officials ruling the FCC. John Kerry, if you care about the constitution, you will make this minor step and take a stand in support of Howard's right to do his show and speak his mind.
So the choice is yours, make the pledge and get the votes that will guarantee your victory or don't and know that the votes could go to Ralph Nader and that may cost you the election. The First Amendments right to free speech is so important that every candidate should be speaking out in support of it but instead the opposite is happening.

314. Cap child support
Put a cap on the amount of money ex-spouses are entitled to as a result of divorce involving children. Former parents are punished by bettering themselves as they carry-on with their lives after the marriage is over. There should be some sort of cap on the amount of child support a former spouse receives after the marriage is disolved.
If a former parent gets a raise / promotion or a better job, that parent is once again dragged into court by a vengeful or greedy ex-spouse in order to cash-in on that benefit. A former spouse should have no right to any of that added income since the gain came after the marriage was over with. The ambitious parent is again targeted by the court system to give up 20% of his newly found income.
There should be some sort of cap on the 20% child support rule as well as a recuction in the percentage. Former spouses do not deserve 20%. Why not 10%?
In today's society we are bombarded by taxes. We pay approximately 8% in sales taxes. As employees, we pay anywhere from 20% to 30% in taxes, depending on if you are your own boss or not. As a property owner, one is taxed about 10%. Some states also have a state tax on top of that. The church wants its 10%. Then on top of that, we are supposed to pay 20% in child support? If you calculate those percentages, in a worst-case scenario, one would have to live off of only about 21% of the income! Now, that is no way to live. What kind of message is that sending when, as soon as one gets a raise, it is widdled away by a former spouse?
A former spouse can keep tapping a the other's income as long as the child is of age to qualify for child support. It gets out of hand when successful people end up having to pay anywhere from $5,000 to $8,000 a month or more!
Now, why would any former spouse need so much money? The Government itself puts a cap on the amount of money it provides to single parents, and even then, it does not give the money in full. Some of the money is issued out in the form of food stamps or something of the like.
We need to put a cap on child support per year. the cap needs to be a percentage of the minimum amount needed to support the child for one year/ per year in that area or state. Better yet, a percentage of the national poverty level per year. That would be a fair and impartial process for all.
If the spouse says they still can't provide for their child, then the child should go to the parent who can.
Let common sense prevail!

326. Washington State "Keep Kids Safe" License Plate
The Children's Trust Fund of Washington was established by the Legislature as a separate fund within the state treasury to receive public and private donations to support the work of programs whose mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect. These funds are administered by the Washington Council for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
This proposal asks that the Washington State Dept. of Licensing issue these special interest plates and that all net proceeds be deposited into the Children's Trust Fund. The cost of the plates will be $44.75 the first year and $30 for renewal years. The net to the Children's Trust Fund would be $28 per plate.
These dollars will then provide opportunities to fund primary prevention programs that will help Washington "Keep Kids Safe" from child abuse and neglect.
327. Restrict Constitutional Rights to U.S. Citizens Only
The United States is being attacked economically by people who are here illegally. Under present law, they benefit from the provision of public services without contributing through the payment of taxes. They generally earn money working at jobs that are "off the books", obtain free medical services in hospital emergency rooms, drive vehicles without licenses or insurance, send their children to schools that they do not support through property taxes, and commit criminal offenses that are costly to our judicial system.
A resricted set of rights should be created for illegal aliens. Not only would a narrower set of rights aid in reducing costs to the tax payer, but it would permit us to better assist our fellow Americans who need assistance.
Restricted rights would also aid in the processing of suspected terrorists who were not U.S. citizens.
328. Increase Child Support in the USA
Children are not getting the financial support they need from one of their parents in most homes. Child support should be placed at a minimum of $100.00 per month if the mother/father earns at least $350 per month. If we continue to let parents get away with paying $50.00 per month child support our kids will not get what they deserve.
Many parents will not work because they have to pay child support. It should be pay or get locked up. The system should support the child more instead of the parent.
