1. Seek Justice and Equality for Actively Involved Parents
This petition is for the parents who play an active and vital role in their child or children’s lives. Unfortunately, for unmarried parents, the laws currently in place in Arkansas and states like it presumably assign one parent to be a “custodial parent” and the other as a “noncustodial parent”, without making a reasonable assessment to determining whether this is the best decision to make in regards to the child or children.
Therefore, this injustice causes an inequality for parents who are present in their child or children’s live by way of multiple levels of support. The laws possibly do this because traditionally one parent is the breadwinner while the other raises the child or children, but times change, and with the change of times comes a need for change of laws. Not all laws from yesteryear are applicable to today and the future, and that is why this petition urges lawmakers to revise statues such as “Arkansas Code of 1987 Title 9: Family Law (Subtitle 2: Domestic Relations).” to reflect the 21st century. If both parents play an equal role, then both parents should have equal parenting rights protected by the law, which leads this discussion to the concept of shared parenting.
Shared parenting refers to a collective agreement in child custody in which the care of the children is equal or substantially shared between the biological parents. More and more parents today are moving away from the traditional custody agreements that consist of a “custodial parent” and “noncustodial parent”. Instead, they are opting for shared parenting. In a shared (or joint) parenting agreement, both parents have almost equal physical custodial time with their children. Moreover, both parents are responsible for making the important decisions in their child's life. Shared parenting is a valiant attempt by both parents to be involved in their child's life for the benefit of the child. Shared parenting heavily involves both parents and does not mean that one parent has the kids almost all of the time with occasional visits to the other parent. This type of parenting is one of the best ways for unmarried parents to work together in the best interest of their child or children, especially when both parents are truly active in their child or children’s lives. Having both parents in a child’s life as true equals is in the best interest of the child. Out with the “Custodial/Noncustodial” and in with “Equal, Fair, and Balanced Parenting”. Shared parenting is more effective than ¾ parenting from one parent and ¼ parenting from the other and vice-versa. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule when one parent is inactive or significantly less active in a child’s life.
Shared parenting is great if both parents do it! Although, there has been a dark past of have the experience of one parent not being in their lives as much as they should or at times not being in their lives period. Those individuals most definitely do not need or deserve same rights as a true parent who is there day in and day out and actively present in their child’s life. Individuals who are not mature enough to be responsible parents make it difficult for those who are. This cause some of them fight back through use of the court system, but can end up being futile because the burden of proving that the other parent is “unfit” is left up to them to substantiate although the point of “fit” or “unfit” is not necessarily an issue. A hardworking parent who has a major part in their child’s life should not have to resort to such madness only to possibly secure their rights as a parent.
The law should be in the best interest of the child, and having both parents in a child’s life as true equals when both play pivotal roles in the child’s life is in the best interest of the child.
The D.R.E.A.M. Act would allow children and students who have grown up in the United States, have graduated from high school and have no criminal record, to attend and complete college or serve 2 years in the military to legalize their immigration status.
3. Protect historic character of Gillespie Crescent
We think that the attractive character of our street is threatened by insensitive developments. A couple of landlord owners have subdivided their bay windowed living rooms and plasterboarded the ceilings below the cornice, to form more bedrooms.
All the other Victorian Crescents in Edinburgh have Listed protected status which would prevent this from happening - Warrander Park Crescent, Marchmont Crescent, Grosvenor Crescent, Landsdale Crescent are all B Listed and Gardners Cresent, Atholl Crescent, Randoph Crecent are A Listed.
This petition is for a Legend of Zelda MMORPG from Nintendo.
A Zelda MMORPG would be an amazing thing and a good use of Nintendos wifi network and emerging online status.
Link's world has been explored extensively over the past several years which provides immense amounts of gaming possibilities.
It would be nice to see integration of systems other than the Nintendo Wii, such as the DS for those on the go away from home. More importantly, a PC version that would integrate with a Wii version online would capture much more market and would be preferable. (I would personally opt for a Wii/PC release like Final Fantasy XI did, being the PC gamer I am, though I still plan on buying a Wii soon)
Again, if it were to be a Wii only title, that would be enough.
(Though, if it were not a Legend of Zelda MMO, a mix of multiple nintendo worlds in an MMORPG would be more versatile than a single game world structure such as pokemon or zelda alone.)
Sign this petition to let Nintendo know that we want a Legend of Zelda MMORPG.
5. Recognition of The Triple Helix at Duke University
On March 1, 2006, the Undergraduate Publications Board of Duke University came to a decision to deny status for The Triple Helix as a publication on campus. Their reasons in short were:
1) Our layout is handled at Cornell;
2) We have content overlap with Vertices;
3) We do not have anything unique to contribute to the Duke Community;
4) that articles submitted by students of other schools in the journal will not be subject to review by Duke personnel.
We're sure it has not escaped your attention, that some of the claims made against us are based on weak grounds, if any.
Currently, we are looking to appeal, and to address the concerns raised by UPB in an appropriate manner. Numerous other universities, both across the nation and in the world (new members include Oxford and Cambridge) see value in TTH. The TTH of Duke University is committed to giving a good response to UPB in hopes to have them reconsider.
Please sign our petition to express your disatisfaction with the UPB's decision and to show the board the large support we have for our journal.
6. London. Truth about TBC breakdown.
January 20, 2006
Startling revelations are surfacing in the "breaks in" news of the TBC radio.
We, a group of failed asylum seekers are living in the UK with fear of arrest and deportation to Sri Lanka at any time.
Mr.Ramraj assured us to obtain visas illegally using his association with the MP for Harrow west, Mr.Garath Thomas and the Councillor, Harrow Mr.Thaya Idaikadar.
In fear of returning to Sri Lanka, three of us barrowed from friends and paid him £5000 each in order to get the visa. However he could not help us in regularising our status as mentioned.
Therefore we asked him to refund the money. He started to threaten us to inform the Enforcement officials of the UK Immigration Service about our status in this country. He further said that we were from the LTTE and will inform to the UK Police that we were threatening him.
Despite this threat, we continued to pressurise him to get the money back. Then recently he asked us to wait in the midnight of 22nd of May 2005 in front of Domino Pizza, in Rayners Lane area. When we went there, he asked us to follow him. We went near a parked car (Metallic Green, R4 JRT) in the Warden Avenue. Then he gave us electronic equipments of possibly radio station and said that get your money from selling those equipments.
The Other day we heard the news that the TBC Radio Station was broken in. Later we got to know that he made a complaint at the Harrow Police Station that the LTTE suspects broke in his radio station.
In another interesting thing that the same Mr.Ramraj, one day had given money to one of another friends of us to buy a pay as you go sim card. Then Mr.Ramraj asked him to call to his Radio Station as well as to his mobile number using a phone with the same sim card frequently. Our friend was not aware as to why Mr.Ramraj asked him to do so.
Now we understand that the purpose of this is to manipulate and complain to the Police about the LTTE threat and to claim insurance falsely. In the recent news in his www.nitharsanam.net, www.vizhippu.net , the same phone number has been mentioned in relation to the "LTTE threat story".
We also learnt that he had a history of cheating the Insurance companies in the year of 2001 and 2003 respectively.
If the UK Immigration Service and the Police can give us guarantee not to remove us from the UK, we are happy to assist the Police or the relevant officials in this regard.
7. Break continuity of the Polish State with PPR
The Republic of Poland was being under German and Soviet occupation since 1939 untill the first free election in 1994.
This petition is to uniquely condemn the legal statue of communist state under Soviet occupation the Peoples Polish Republic by the statutory decision.
In February of 2004 one of my dearest friends' daughter, Mikiala Martinez, was kidnapped from the streets of our hometown, Great Bend, Kansas. Mikiala was then taken to rural Barton County, where these 2 men admittedly beat, shot her and hid her body. Since this heinous crime against this mother of two, James Martinez (Mikis father) and I have been attempting to pass a new Kansas Law that will help us as the public to protect ourselves against these violent offenders.
We are very fortunate to have Representatives John Edmonds and Bob Bethel guiding us through the State House. We feel only military, law enforcement and legislators alike are bestowed with the authority, the ability and have undertaken the duty to protect. Other than this we must protect ourselves.
Public notification regarding the potential risk that accompanies these such violent offenders has been highly understated. Statistics prove the majority of these violent offenders violate parole, there for they violate another innocent being. Noone can protect themselves, their homes or their loved ones from potential danger if they are unaware of its presence.
We feel we have THE RIGHT TO KNOW when such violent offenders are released in our community and we hope you agree. There are several ways you can show your support: one short phone call, email or send postal mail to your state representatives, senators, governor, local law enforcement or even email to us, juliestiest@yahoo.com / exclusivejules@hotmail.com.
Or if you would like give James a call at 620-617-3421. We are grateful for any support any of you find the time to give.
God Bless Mikiala
9. Rescind deportation order against Rabia Benhmida
Please show your support for our friend, Rabia Benhmida, and sign this online petition demanding that the motion for her deportation be rescinded and that she be allowed to be in the U.S., be given permanent resident status, green cards and the right to apply for US citizenship.
Then we ask you to pass this petition on to your family and friends.
10. Say No to China's 'Anti-Separation Law'
The National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) approved a draft of the "Anti-Separation Law" in December 2004 and will submit it to the NPC for further deliberation and passage in March, 2005. The enactment of such a law deeply concerns Taiwan, an independent and sovereign nation comprised of 23 million people.
The "Anti-Separation Law" will provide unification with the PRC as the sole option for cross-Strait relations. The law outlines what Beijing considers acts and consequences of Taiwan independence, and further promotes its "one country, two systems" stance in strict conformity with its so-called "one China" policy. At worse, the law would, in effect, legalize war against Taiwan in the eyes of Beijing.
Passage of the "Anti-Separation Law" would change the status quo unilaterally and result in serious consequences for peace and stability in the region. It ignores the political reality that Taiwan and the PRC are two independent and equal entities and disregards the desire of the Taiwan people to determine their own future. In December 2004, for example, the Mainland Affairs Council conducted a survey to Taiwan people in which 83% or respondents polled expressed opposition to the enactment of the "Anti-Separation Law."
The passage of such a law would quickly destroy what little trust there is in Beijing and erode cross-Strait relations further.
11. Abolish Special Status for Jammu and Kashmir
The Government of India has always considered the state of Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of the Republic yet its own policy of special status for the state prevents the state from integrating into the country.
By barring Indian citizens from settling in the States, the assimilation of the state is hampered. Moreover considering Pakistan has accelerated interstate immigration into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, the initial intent of preserving the demographics of the state for a plebescite is no longer valid.
If J&K is to one day be a prosperous and integrated state in India, the special status of the state should be repealed.
12. America Online - Reinstate those who have lost bulk mailing list status
December 2005
This petition is now closed. Thanks to all who signed.
.......................................................
November 2003
Dear Mr. Miller:
We, the undersigned, hereby demand AOL reinstate those who have lost bulk mailing list status due to inconspicuous spam controls implanted on AOL 8.0 and 8.0 plus, without the users' knowledge, and further demand spam folders be located where they can readily be seen, and AOL immediately remove these bogus tos violations from our account records. Spam folders did not show up in our normal mail, it was not until one chose another method (such as AOL anywhere) of retrieving mail, that the spam folder was visible.
Most lists and members knew nothing of this, therefore we inadvertently reported each other as sending spam. (Aol was controlling what was and was not spam, without our knowledge, as it seems we've lost the right to view our own mail and make that decision for ourselves).
Many innocent people lost bulk mailing privileges for a 6 month period due to AOL's hasty decision, and we should not be penalized for AOL's mistakes. We have done nothing wrong and have followed tos rules. It is not a tos violation to send mail to those who have requested it be sent.
13. Ban H1B visas
This petition is to ban H1B visa status.
H1B permits foreign citizens to work in
the United States while citizens and legal residents are often sent overseas against their will.
14. Allow access to Polish agriculture areas for Dutch citizens
This petition is to create special status for the Kingdom of Netherlands to access Polish agriculture areas. Holland is suffering severe shortage of agriculture area as trying to cultivate the ocean.
15. Stop forcing foreign citizens to Polish citizenship
This petition is to abandon Soviet citizenship law forcing foreign citizens
with Polish origin to Polish citizenship. The original law is based on the rule of Stalin forcing foreigners to the citizeship for the purpose of military service.
16. Abolish H1-B and F-1 status
The petition is to abolish H1-B and F-1 visa categories in the Immigration and Naturalization Act.
17. Political Status for Prisoners of War Worldwide
Every person who takes up arms against an oppressor or in the cause in which he/she believes is entitled to the status of Political Status if not POW status
18. Help Renee Boje gain refugee status!
I am writing to you on behalf of an amazing woman called named Renee Boje, who has made a rare application for refugee status, stating she fears she will suffer cruel and unusual punishment for her alleged involvement in a medical cannabis garden in California where medical cannabis is legal. If convicted, Boje's punishment will be a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in a U.S. Federal Prison Boje was held for 72 hours at the Federal Corrections Facility for Women in downtown Los Angeles, during which time she was strip searched an astounding 15 times. Two of the searches were done in the presence of male officers who made lewd and threatening remarks.
Boje strongly denies any wrong-doing. The cannabis was grown for medical research under the protection of a California State law, Proposition 215. Proposition 215 ensures that patients and their primary caregivers, residing in California, who cultivate, obtain, and use cannabis medicinally, upon the recommendation of a physician, are not subject to criminal prosecution or sanction.
Boje risks further physical abuse and humiliation at the hands of U.S. authorities.
Please do not allow the U.S. to extradite Renee. We are asking that Renee be granted Refugee Status so that she is able to live in peace, here in Canada, where she is safe.
