PETITION CONCERNING THE RESUMPTION OF COMMERCIAL WHALING AND THE MEMBERSHIP OF SURINAME TO THE “INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE REGULATION OF WHALING, 1946 AND ITS PROTOCOL”
WE, the Board of the Green Heritage Fund Suriname and the volunteers of the Green Heritage Fund Suriname, CONCLUDE THAT:
- This is a crucial moment in the history of humanity: we can now make a choice to either consciously collaborate in destroying the biodiversity on this planet, or take a standpoint for preservation and protection, and for living in harmony with our natural environment;
- While the images are still fresh in our minds of dolphins fighting for their lives--fighting to stay out of the hands of people who will ruthlessly slaughter them, we can now make a choice to either continue to approve this slaughter, or make our voice heard and resound with a forceful 'NO'; and
3. Stop the use of Chemical Pesticides on Banana crops
Chemical pesticides have been used on banana crops for over half a century. The wide spread use of these pesticides in South American countries has produced numerous accounts of physical illness on the people who work on banana plantations as well as the people of the surrounding villages and towns.
The corporations who use these pesticides on a regular basis are ignoring many of these illness issues. The illnesses that are inflicted on the workers and their families cause undue financial and physical harm, and do not allow them to keep their jobs, which are essential to providing for their families.

For the last 11 years Hugo Chavez has been in power in Venezuela, and has taken progressive steps towards a dictatorship. Events that have characterized his presidency include: 1) Repression of freedom of speech, demonstrated by the closing and expropriation of several opposition TV and Radio stations and the persecution of many journalists and common citizens who have expressed opinions against Chavez’s views and actions; 2) Unfair treatment including the use of force such as to cause physical harm to students and common citizens while during peaceful protests, as well as unbalanced use of power to induce fear and repress the freedom of speech; 3) Ongoing expropriation of privately owned businesses coupled with endless threads to continue the expropriation of private property of any kind; 4) Manipulation of the democratic system to ensure his long-term permanence in power, modifying the Venezuelan constitution to allow for indefinite re-election; and, 5) Politicization of military and police forces and of the judicial system. These are just a few examples of the ongoing violation of Human Rights, and the disrespect of the democratic system.

Durante los últimos once años Hugo Chávez ha mantenido el poder en Venezuela, dirigiendo progresivamente el país hacia una dictadura. Eventos que han caracterizado su presidencia incluyen: 1) Represión de la libertad de expresión, demostrada al cerrar e incluso expropiar varias estaciones de televisión y radio de la oposición; y también por la persecución de periodistas y ciudadanos comunes que se han expresado en contra de las opiniones y acciones de Chávez; 2) Trato injusto, incluyendo el uso de la fuerza hasta causar daño físico, a estudiantes y ciudadanos comunes durante protestas pacificas, así como el uso desigual del poder para inducir miedo y reprimir la libertad de expresión; 3) Expropiación de empresas y negocios privados con amenazas continuas de eliminar la propiedad privada y la libre empresa por completo en el país; 4) Manipulación del sistema democrático para asegurar su permanencia indefinida en el poder, modificando la constitución para permitir la re-elección indefinida; y, 5) Politización de las fuerzas militares y policiales, así como del sistema judicial. Estos son solo algunos ejemplos de la violación continua a los Derechos Humanos y el irrespeto al sistema democrático.

10. Declaração dos estudantes de Medicina do Brasil sobre HIV e AIDS relacionada ao Dia Mundial da AIDS
Uma ação da IFMSA-Brazil(International Federation of Medical Students Associations´) para o Dia Mundial da Aids, congregando estudantes de medicina do Brasil na luta contra HIV/Aids.
A "Rede Record de Televisão" tem tratado os fans do seriado "Xena: A Princesa Guerreira" sem nenhuma concideração. Viemos aqui pedir que essa situação mude.
1. O Seriado sofre cortes enormes e tem epsódios que são simplismente "excluidos" pela emissora.
2. O seriado não tem a sequencia de seus epsódios respeitada. Frequentemente ocorre de não seguirem a ordem e "pularem" vários epsódios.
3. O excesso de cortes em certos epsódios chega a ser rídiculo! Enquanto a emissora exibe cenas de violencia para crianças em "Pica-Pau", cortam simples cenas em "Xena: A Princesa Guerreira" sem nenhum remorso. um epsódio de 45min é exibido com apenas 20 ou 30min.
4. O seriado está aparentemente sem horário fixo. Hoje (18/11/2009), por razões desconhecidas, alguns estados puderam assistir a série às 17h e outros estados não. O seriado nem está constando na grade de programação exibida no site oficial da emissora! http://www.rederecord.com.br/. Uma total falta de concideração!

15. Support the Haitian Children & Families Initiative
UNICEF estimates that 490,000 children are orphans in Haiti. This translates to 6% of Haiti's total population.
In 2004, at the height of intercountry adoptions into the U.S., over 350 children were served through intercountry adoption. Thousands more including local Haitian communities were served by family preservation and other permanency services.
However, over the past three years the processing of adoptions in Haiti has slowed to a crawl. Abandoned children now endure 2 or more years of debilitating effects on their health, development and emotional well-being while awaiting the completion of their adoption.
The delays imposed over the past three years are largely the result of the Haitian government's implementation of an inadequate child welfare and protection law. This law provides insufficient child protections and does not reflect the realities of current Haitian society. While enforcement of current laws are generally seen a positive, this particular law is significantly dated and does not serve the best interest of children in need of a permanent family.
The obvious solution to the crisis is the passage and implementation of a new adoption and child protection law. Such a law has been drafted, introduced into the Haitian National Assembly and supported by the Joint Council on International Children's Services, the U.S. government, the French government and UNICEF.
16. Denounce Death Threats Against Juanes
Freedom of expression is an inalienable right for all individuals in all countries, at all times especially in matters of civic and political expression.
There is a public debate underway concerning a concert to be held in Cuba on September 20, 2009 organized by the Colombian musician Juanes as the latest in a series of concerts around the world with the theme peace without borders.
Although the concert is described as apolitical and directed at the Cuban people there are concerns that it will be politicized by the Cuban dictatorship.
Both Juanes and his critics have a right to exercise their freedom of expression.
Nevertheless, individuals have crossed that line and demonstrated their contempt for fundamental human rights. Two clear examples first on August 14th on 35th Ave. and SW 8th Street where a black shirt representing Juanes was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire by a demonstrator who stated to the press: “This is what we are going to do with him burn him for being a communist, a traitor, a terrorist, and for licking Fidel Castro’s boots.” Secondly, A day later on Twitter Juanes received the following message: "I hate what you are saying but you will die for defending your right to say it."
These are not examples of free speech but verbal assaults: the threat to carry out physical harm against an individual. This is intolerable in a free society.
This is the kind of language used by Cuban government agents to intimidate members of the opposition in Cuba and reflects a country that today has 21 imprisoned journalists recognized by the Committee to Protect Journalists and 58 activists recognized by Amnesty International as prisoners of conscience rotting in prisons; where a man cries out in front of a camera that he is hungry and is sentenced to two years in prison. These are the kind of threats that are all too common in Cuba.
They are unacceptable in a free society.

18. Remove the corrupt PPP regime
Since 2002, Guyana under the PPP dictatorship has been reduced to a narco economy and on the verge of becoming a failed state. The PPP/C regime has plunged Guyana into the abyss with the imposition of VAT, ruthless phantom death squads, pervasive poverty and public lawlessness.
Several ministers have been linked to well known drug lords, public corruption abounds and maybe engendered by the burning down of at least 5 ministry buildings.
Many Afro-Guyanese men have been wrongfully arrested and tortured and in the case of David Leander (Biscuit) poisoned in jailed.
19. Stop Human Rights Violations in Guyana
The Guyana Government (PPP) headed by Bharrat Jagdeo and Security forces have failed to protect and serve its citizens fairly and within the laws of the United Nations Human Rights Act.
* Unsolved murders of 500 black men and women.
* Mysterious deaths in custody.
* Implicated into drugs trade/trafficking with a known international cartel.
* Gagging freedom of speech.
* Torturing of citizens.
* A Police Commissioner (Henry Greene) whose visa was revoked by the US for benefiting from the drugs trade.

A Lei Maria da Penha - Lei 11.340/2006 é considerada pelos movimentos de mulheres um marco na proteção aos Direitos Humanos das Mulheres, num país onde seguem alarmantes os índices de violência doméstica, grande parte deles culminando em homicídios de mulheres pelos seus parceiros.
Apesar de confrontar-se com esta triste realidade, a justiça criminal brasileira vem ignorando e distorcendo o texto expresso na legislação ao exigir a representação da vítima em processos judiciais onde estão expressas as violações aos direitos à privacidade e à integridade das vítimas, dentre outros direitos, em um gesto de tolerância aos crimes de violência doméstica e uma enorme resistência na aplicação da Lei que visa combater o machismo da sociedade brasileira.

Our comrade and friend from Colombia, Mr. Edgar Paez, the Secretary General of Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores dela Industria de Alimentos (SINALTRAINAL) is under surveillance and was put in the Order of Battle by the Colombian Military last May 15, 2009.

Homeopathy has been part of the history of the world, together with medical doctors, thousands of homeopathic practitioners, with a degree or not, had exercise the homeopathic profession, providing an invaluable service to society. In difficult times, homeopathy has proven its effectiveness: in harsh epidemics such as cholera in the nineteenth century in Europe and in the United States influenza in the year 1918, homeopathy was more effective than allopathic medicine in the treatment of thousands of individuals. Millions of people have benefited from the work of the homeopaths.
The homeopaths of the world desire to have the support of society and the general public, seeking partnerships that will enable us to make visible homeopathy as a heritage and legacy of all mankind. The history of homeopathy has known numerous cases of individuals who were homeopaths, having embraced first training in other fields of knowledge: agricultural, military, anthropologists, lawyers, priests, biologists, bishops, and nuns. Homeopathic remedies are effective and economical in the treatment of acute and chronic illnesses. The state of the art of the health-illness studies have clearly demonstrated that the opposition of the pharmaceutical industry and certain sectors of the medical profession should be understand more on the interest in money drive than in a real interest in the health of mankind. This has led in many moments, with the complicity of the states, to the persecution to death of many homeopaths, precisely because it reveals a time of deception and potential excesses of the pharmaceutical biochemical model which is dominant and is aimed is almost exclusively based on gain.
The imposition of a single medical model and the intention to appropriate approaches such as homeopathy, ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine and herbology, can be understood only as part of a fundamentalist culture that is said to be predominantly scientific, allegedly neutral and "universal". Securely pressed by the pharmaceutical multinationals, the pronouncement of certain sectors of society (Council of State, Secretary of Health, Government) do not reflect the interest to promote or protect the health of peoples and nations, but the interests of a monocultural scheme of thought.
Sarah é um bebê com quase 11 meses completos, que, pelo acaso, chegou em nossa casa com apenas quatro dias. Desde o primeiro momento foi amada e aceita incondicionalmente. Ainda que sua chegada não fosse esperada, todos contribuíram para que ela tivesse as melhores condições e se sentisse em casa.
Imediatamente, ganhou cinco irmãos, papai, mamãe, avós, tios, tias e muitos amigos, alterando a vida de todos. Para melhor confortá-la, mudamos de casa, demos a ela um quarto especial com muitos brinquedos e passamos a viver a alegria de vê-la crescer feliz. Seu sorriso era motivo de felicidade constante em nossa casa.
Ao mesmo tempo, entramos com o pedido de guarda provisória para fins de adoção junto ao Poder Judiciário. Porém, passados onze meses, Sarah foi levada da porta de nossa casa às 17h de uma sexta-feira, retirada de nossos braços - seus pais - pela assistente social e psicóloga do fórum, que não tiveram nem a sensibilidade e o bom senso de aguardar que pegássemos alguns dos seus objetos pessoais, roupas, medicamentos, mamadeira etc. Não tiveram, também, a preocupação de perguntar os hábitos da criança, se estava sadia ou se tínhamos recomendações específicas que pudessem garantir seu bem-estar.
Ao longo destes onze meses, não recebemos qualquer visita de profissionais da Justiça que pudesse avaliar em quais condições a criança vivia, se recebia um tratamento adequado de nossa família ou mesmo para verificar a existência de laços afetivos entre Sarah e nós. Fomos penalizados pelo Poder Judiciário por não estarmos incluídos em uma fila de adoção.
Nossa indignação e sofrimento são motivados pelo desrespeito e total indiferença quanto aos laços afetivos já estabelecidos neste período e pela total falta de sensibilidade com relação ao bem-estar da criança, contradizendo os princípios do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA).

Poor Danny has missed out on so many Brazilian international Campaigns and so this petition is aimed at getting him back where he belongs.

En Guatemala se ha llegado al punto que ya no hay medida ni posibilidades de evadir la violencia, hasta niños en brazos de sus madres alcanza las balas perdidas. Esto denota una descomposicion social extrema, pues ya no se puede viajar tranquilamente con la minima seguridad en el transporte publico, o en un carro particular, o caminar por las calles. Hay una sensacion de impotencia y vulnerabilidad en los ciudadanos y lo peor es que no hacemos nada al respecto.
Todos los que nacimos en esta eterna primavera, tenemos el deber y la obligacion de levantar nuestras voces y exigir seguridad, paz ....respeto a la vida. Porque de no hacerlo HOY, mañana nuestros hijos, nuestros nietos....nuestra familia, seran personas resentidas, psicologicamente dañadas, por crecer en hogares destruidos, por la falta de un padre, una madre, un hermano,.....porque el dolor de la perdida de un ser amado, les cambio la vida para siempre.....y el hogar...su hogar nunca volvio a ser el mismo.
