1. Bournemouth Council should say Yes to proposed plans for a Gypsy site
Bournemouth council say that having an authorised transit site available in the borough will mean the police can use powers to evict travellers who camp illegally on private or public land they would then be required to use the available site or leave the borough.
Having managed sites can reduce problems with associated anti-social behaviour and limit the detrimental affects on travelling communities health, education and well being.
2. Keep Jalama Beach Local, NO RESERVATIONS
Jalama Beach is changing the campsite process.
County and Park officials are working on changing from a first come first serve basis to reservations only. This will make the beach more accessible to out of area campers.
Jalama Beach is loved by locals for being a spot you can escape at the last minute and enjoy our beautiful Central California Coast.
If this camp site process goes to reservation only the spontaneity that is great about Jalama Beach will be lost.
3. Petition Egypt's Transitional Authority to Provide Adequate Monument and Site Security
Since the recent protests and restructuring of the Egyptian government there has been a significant and dangerous wave of vandalism, theft and antagonism at the ancient, Islamic, Coptic and Jewish sites and monuments of Egypt. During this time, there has been ineffective security personnel dispatched at said sites, largely consisting of unarmed police and inspectors.
The theft and damage to these sites is becoming considerable and the perpetrators are often armed and arrive in large gangs. The damage and loss of irreplaceable Egyptian and global heritage is significant and increasing. If not retrieved, any stolen items are irreplaceable. It is vital that adequate security is immediately restored to the monument sites and artifact storehouses in Egypt.
Trained and armed personnel must be dispatched back to these sites immediately.
4. PCS - save our cultural assets petition
Thousands of PCS members who work in galleries, museums and historic sites are launching a campaign to defend the country’s cultural assets.
To coincide with the European Trade Union Confederation’s day of action for jobs and growth, the union is publishing a statement for supporters of the campaign to sign up to oppose cuts in culture, media and sport.
The statement aims to show the level of support against short sighted government cuts which will mean massive job losses and seriously harm the UK economy.
PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka said: “As the coalition government forges ahead with massive cuts in DCMS and the entire arts and heritage sector, more voices are raised in pointing out the lack of sense in their approach.
There is widespread concern that cuts of between 25% and 40% will have a devastating impact on our heritage, our culture and our ability to be competitive in sport. It’s now time to show the strength of feeling against these cuts and let the government know that we are not prepared to let them ruin our valuable cultural heritage.”
Sign the petition below and join the campaign to save our cultural assets. In addition to the e-petition, we have received over 260 hand-written signatures in support. Please join the campaign today.
5. Save our Access to Social Media Sites
In Australia, there’s a morning show called Sunrise. It’s a pop vox piece with news, current affairs, and very hack journalism. Normally it’s harmless, but today they had a special on ’school bullying’, I listened with interest, having suffered at the hands of bullies, and even at times become one myself, it’s an interesting aspect of growing up that people tend to overlook as far as an emotional and psychological developmental factor in life.
I thought their piece was cute, and as always they ran their usual implementing social justice using their huge fan list and a petition, up until I heard the advert they’re running to promote their campaign. This time they’ve gone too far.
They wish to urge the Australian government to appoint an independent regulator for social media sites. No. Sunrise, no. You will get signatures and support from idiots who don’t realise the danger of what you are suggesting. I am sure that Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter as corporations will lose all respect for our molly coddled nation, with our notorious breach of civil liberties as far as Stephen Conroy’s conjob of the ‘great firewall of australia’ as the government intends to censor our net, or the fact our government do not feel our citizens are old or mature enough to decide on their own entertainment with video games and a lack of R18+ (therefore if a game isn’t suitable for 15 year olds it’s banned) but having our government go to these corporations and say “Sup guise, we want this net nanny to sit on your boards or we’re packing up our toys and going home.” is just ridiculous.
Sunrise needs to google “net neutrality” and get in touch with the people it’s attempting to represent in an ad hoc fashion and appreciate that whilst they will always get a ground swell of bleeding heart viewers, they can, and in this instance have, overstepped the mark. We are not a dictatorship, and our Government interferes with the average citizens life far more than it should in any democratic culture in this nation as it is.
6. CCIMLS Public Facing Web Site
THIS PETITION WILL BE CLOSED AT 9:00AM ON TUESDAY DECEMBER 9, 2008 AT WHICH TIME IT WILL BE PREPARED FOR PRESENTATION TO THE CCIAOR/CCIMLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
On Monday November 24, 2008 sixteen members of the Cape Cod and Islands Association of Realtors assembled in Orleans to review the most recent developments of the CCIAOR/CCIMLS websites. Following are some of the questions discussed.
General questions and concerns:
• Did enough planning go into these web sites?
• What are the possible unintended consequences to CCIAOR/CCIMLS members?
• What is the primary objective?
• Whose interests are best served?
• These web sites will make it more difficult for agents to distinguish their Internet services from others.
Sales questions and concerns:
• Prospects may move away from the individual web sites of agents and agencies.
• Prospective buyers have little or no reason to register on a member’s web site.
• CCIAOR/CCIMLS is unfairly using membership dues to compete with the agents for prospect traffic.
• Agent/Agency web site investment of time, effort and treasure is wasted.
Rental questions and concerns:
• A highly publicized web site places the association in competition with the member's sites. Members spend a great deal of time and money on software and SEO. The members now have one more very powerful and strong competitor for rental cutomers.
• Rental listings are mostly non-exclusive. The new web sites will inevitably have the same property listed many times by different agencies with different rate schedules, availability calendars, etc. This will be confusing to the consumers and drive rental prices down.
7. ReACT - Residents Against Cell Towers
Did you know that Telecom is erecting a cell phone site in Onehunga?
Above Tin Tacks Dairy
164-172 Trafalgar St
Telecommunication companies say cell towers and electromagnetic radiation are safe. Most independent experts around the world say it is not. Many governments and world experts are advising that far more caution should be taken.
No-one knows what the long term effects of EMF radiation will be to Children.
Residential cell phone sites currently require no consultation or any notification to be erected.
8. Future Use of Undeveloped School Sites in Briarwood
In 2003 the Public School Board along with the Catholic School Board decided not to build schools in Briarwood. The land that tho schools were to be built on is owned by three groups; Boychuck Construction (60%), Northridge (10%) and the City of Saskatoon (30%).
The land was rezoned for single family dwellings and the developers would like to proceed with the building of such houses. The builders presented the community with a plan to build 44 dwellings in the above mentioned sites.
The residents of Briarwood feel deceived by the decision not to build a school, since the purchase of their homes was based on the assumption that a school would be placed in these lots. The residents that own lots adjacent to the school sites paid a premium for their lots that is not equitable to what residents who neighbor other developed areas paid.
The builders will profit from the development of these sites, the City will profit not onlyl from the sale, but from the property taxes generated by this lots and the residents of Briarwood will lose the green space that a school yard would have provided our community.
About 11 million people in the united states have an eating disorder. 10-15 percent of those people die from heath-related issues associated with eating disorders.
In a study of girls aged 9 to 15, slightly more than half reported exercising to lose weight, slightly less than half reported eating less to lose weight, and approximately 1 out of 20 reported using diet pills or laxatives to lose weight.
Research has shown that approximately 40 percent of fourth graders have been on a "diet" once in awhile. Research from Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders, Inc. (ANRED) suggests that about 1 percent of female adolescents have anorexia. That means that about 1 out of every 100 females between the ages of 10 and 20 are not eating enough and should be seeing a doctor.
Bulimia affects 1 to 3 percent of middle and high school girls.
Boys and men develop eating disorders, too. Research from ANRED suggests that 5 to 10 percent of people with anorexia or bulimia are males.
With these risks and statistics in mind, would you think there would be a such thing as PRO-ED?
Pro ED (pro eating disorder) is basically glamorizing eating disorders. Would you want to glamorize this:
The following are issues related to eating disorders:
Cold intolerance
Dry skin
Fatigue
Distorted body chemistry
Anemia/altered blood count
Loss of period (amenorrhea)
Gastrointestinal problems
Death
Rotting teeth (induced by bulimia)
Malnutrition
Dehydration
Electrolyte Imbalances
Hyponatremia (related to "water-loading")
Refeeding Syndrome (related to treatment)
Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies
Lanugo .
Edema
Muscle Atrophy
Paralysis
Tearing of Esophagus
Esophageal Reflux
Cancer
Insomnia
Hyperactivity
Swelling
Callused or bruised fingers
Dry Skin and Hair, Brittle Hair and Nails, Hair Loss
Low Blood Pressure, Hypotension
High Blood Pressure, Hypertension
Low Platelet Count or Thrombocytopenia -
Low Blood Sugar/Hypoglycemia: can indicate problems with the liver or kidneys and can lead to neurological and mental deterioration.
Ketoacidosis
Osteoporosis
Arthritis (degenerative)
TMJ "Syndrome" and Related TMJ Problems
Amenorrhea
Easily Bruising Skin
Infertility
Problems during pregnancy
Depression
Lowered body temperature
Cramps, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, incontinence -
Peptic Ulcers
Pancreatitis -
Digestive Difficulties
Weakness and Fatigue
Seizures
Death
With those risks in mind, I feel that Pro-ED sited should be shut down. I feel that they are as bad as sites telling people how to commit suicide. These sites are also triggering for those who are in recovery of this disease.
10. Back Gardens are Not Brownfield Sites
The Labour Government have finally made a statement in response to the Downing Street website petition: -
http://www.pm.gov.uk/output/Page14457.asp
"Whilst there is a considerable need for new housing, the Government recognises that it is important to ensure development is in the right place, and that includes preventing inappropriate development in residential areas or on garden land where it is not sustainable and other sites are available.
The Government has given new powers to councils to prevent inappropriate developments on garden land. Planning policy for housing - Planning Policy Statement 3 - which came into force in April 2007 gives local planning authorities the ability to specify different targets for different kinds of brownfield land, which distinguish between residential sites and other kinds of brownfield land. PPS3 gives local authorities greater powers to restrict garden development if they have alternative viable land available and the level of development within residential areas is much higher than intended in their plan.
The policy also places a much stronger emphasis on the quality of residential design and layout, making clear that design which is inappropriate in its context, or which fails to take the opportunities available for improving the character and quality of an area and the way it functions, should not be accepted. Local authorities also need to assess the extent to which new housing development provides, or enables access to, community green space, open space and private outdoor areas such as gardens, as well as provides for the retention or re-establishment of the biodiversity within residential environments.
PPS3 states in clear terms that there is no presumption that land is suitable for housing simply because it is brownfield, stressing the need for sites to be suitable for housing development, that are in suitable locations, and which will contribute to the creation of sustainable, mixed communities.
It is up to Local councils to use planning rules to deliver additional homes in the most suitable and appropriate location."

Don't be fooled !
"Gordon Brown has pledged three million homes will be built by 2020, mainly on previously developed brownfield sites." according to this August 2007 BBC document: -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6947138.stm
As we all know green back gardens are classified as brownfield sites by the Labour Government and if you live within the GLA's domain you also know the Labour Mayor of London Ken Livingstone will not oppose this decision. Therefore we should expect under this Labour Government for the vast majority of the 3 million new homes by 2020 promised by Gordon Brown to be built on back garden type sites. So much for their environmental concerns !
..........................................................................................
If you live within the Greater London Assembly's area of control then you are probably feeling the effects of Mayor LIvingstone's insistance that even more houses be built. He has increased his demands on local authorites by as much as 30% for 2007-2011 compared with 2006 and should they 'obstruct' his ruling then potential penalties could result for your local Council potentially causing greater pain for Council Tax-Payers.
Hopefully you will remember this fact at the 2008 GLA elections for Mayor of London and GLA members!
A most disturbing 'blog' I have read indicates that resident's of the Lea Valley Olympics site will be re-housed throughout London to permit the Olympics development to proceed placing even greater demands for housing in other boroughs? It is as yet unknown how many people are directly affected by the move!

Here is a copy of an email which I recently received that explains what is happening in the argument against inappropriate back garden development. Please give it your full support: -
"Dear Councillor Cakebread
Further to your email of the 8th August, I can now confirm that Garden Organic will be launching its campaign to Save our Gardens in London on 24th January. (2007)
Our website for the campaign, www.saveourgardens.org.uk, is up and running, explaining what we are actually campaigning for (redefinition of gardens, not as brownfield sites), offering ideas for people to get involved (and sign our petition) and urge MPs to sign up to the new EDM which will be launched on that day.

My attempt in raising this petition to support Greg Clark has not been successful by the initial target timeframe of late October 2006. However, as interest continues with the campaign nationally, and further signatures are being added daily to this specific petition I have therefore decided to keep it open until further notice.
Please forward this url to interested parties and encourage others to join the campaign.
My thanks to you all for your support !
Brian

Here is an email I have received from Greg Clark which provides the latest news on this now failed Private Member's Bill: -
"Subject: Protection of Private Gardens Bill
I’m writing to update you on the campaign to protect garden land from unsustainable and opportunistic development.
On the 20th October, my Protection of Private Gardens Bill came before the House of Commons for its third and final chance to receive a ‘Second Reading’ and proceed to the next stage in the legislative process. Sadly, and as on the previous two occasions, the Government used a Parliamentary procedure to block further progress. This is especially disappointing given that MPs from all parties gave their support to the bill.
However, while Ministers have succeeded in stopping the bill in this Parliamentary Session, they have failed to bury the issue. The campaign against garden grabbing has been featured in national and local newspapers, as well as on radio and television programmes including the Today programme on Radio 4 and Tonight with Trevor Macdonald on ITV1. I’ve received thousands of letters, e-mails and other messages of support for my campaign. People up and down the country are fighting to protect precious green space from garden grab developments.
It has become increasingly clear to me that this is too big and important an issue to be dealt with by just one MP. From meetings I’ve had with organisations representing local residents, gardeners and conservationists, there seems to be strong support for a broad-based campaign against garden grabbing.
I’m glad say I’ve joined forces with Garden Organic, a charity you may have heard of. They’ve agreed to help with the operation of the campaign, and will keep anyone interested in touch with the latest developments. If for any reason you don’t want to be on the campaign mailing list, please let me know.
In any case, I hope you will stay involved with the ongoing fight to save our gardens.
Greg Clark MP"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back gardens are being surreptitiously used as brownfield sites to push through the inordinate UK housing programme, primarily in the South-East of England, as advocated by John Prescott from his former Office of the Deputy Prime Minister role.
A 'Protection of Private Gardens Bill' has been proposed by Greg Clark MP. When the Bill came up for its Second Reading on 14 July 2006 the Government whip objected to the further progress of the Bill (just as they did in May 2006) and, as a result of constraints on Parliamentary time, it was not debated.
However, the Bill will return to Parliament on the 20th October 2006, a final opportunity for it to receive a 'Second Reading' and proceed to the next stage in the Parliamentary process.
A successful Bill should ensure Brownfield inner city and town sites, which will probably include low-cost homes, where most attention is required will be the primary focus for development.

"EDM 2130
REMOVAL OF GARDENS FROM BROWNFIELD DEFINITION
10.05.2006
Clark, Greg
That this House shares the concern of communities throughout the United Kingdom over the scale of residential development on garden land; recognises that the density and speed of such development can cause irreparable damage to neighbourhood character and cohesion; notes that the loss of garden land threatens urban biodiversity and environmental sustainability in towns and cities; further notes that garden land developments rarely exceed the threshold at which affordable housing must be provided and displaces the regeneration of derelict land; believes the official classification of garden land as brownfield to be inappropriate and misleading; and therefore urges the Government to amend all relevant planning guidance to remove gardens from the definition of previously developed land and thereby return decisions over proposed garden land developments to the discretion of local planning authorities."
11. Tell eBaulm's World to Stop Stealing!
July 10, 2006
For years, Ebaulm's World has stolen everything from images to Flash Movies. He has done so quite blatantly. Most content on the website is taken from other sources without permission and rebranded with the eBaum's World logo.
Sadly enough, the site, which is owned by Rochester, New York, native Eric "eBaum" Bauman ranks in the top 500 sites on the Internet according to Alexa. It is co-owned by Eric's secretary and father Neil Bauman.
As for controversy, eBaum's World has garnered significant controversy in many Internet communities over the years due to numerous accusations of content being taken from other sites without attribution, especially from websites such as YTMND, Something Awful, Albino Blacksheep and Newgrounds.
Companies such as Viacom, 20th Century Fox, and Sega have all claimed that Eric and Neil Bauman have infringed on their copyrights. Eric Bauman denies critics' claims that the site's content is stolen, citing research done by site editors and the consent form that must accompany uploads of material.
He claims to honor all requests to remove unauthorized material, but this is contested by some content creators. In particular, web artist and animator Jonti Picking, ("Weebl", creator of the Badger Badger Badger animations) was only able to have his animations removed at the beginning of 2006. Bauman has claimed that he formerly worked with Picking, though Picking has stated that this is false.
The main fact is that me must stop him. Signing this petition could mean him finally giving it up.
12. Fight Against Illegally Assisted-Suicide, Help Save Lives, Abolish Pro-Eating Disorder Websites
May 7, 2006
Each and every year, many women, of all ages, are killing themselves. These women and young girls are not committing suicide by hanging themselves or overdosing on pills. These women are suffering from anorexia nervosa. They are starving themselves to death.
However, these women are not doing it on their own; they are being aided in their slow suicide. This act of assisted suicide is illegal in 49 out of 50 states. With the help of pro-anorexia or, as they are more commonly called, "pro-ana" websites, visitors to these sites, usually young, female adolescents, looking to lose weight or who are already in the midst of an eating disorder, can obtain weight loss tips and tricks on how to hide their eating disorder from family and friends. These websites promote behaviors, which lead to osteoporosis, irregular heart beat, cardiac disease, seizures, nerve damage, heart attack and death.
Oregon is currently the only U.S. state, in which assisted-suicide is legal. Under the Death with Dignity Act, physicians are permitted to administer a lethal dose of medication to those suffering from a terminal illness. To qualify for physician-assisted suicide, one must meet a specific set of criterion. They must be at least 18 years of age, an Oregon resident, capable of making, as well as communicating health care decisions for themselves, and have been diagnosed with a terminal illness that will result in death in six month of less.
A terminal illness is an incurable disease, which is active, progressive and expected to lead to death. Anorexia is not a terminal illness. An anorectic showing up at an Oregon clinic wishing to receive assistance in ending her life, would be turned down, almost immediately, regardless of how much physical and emotional pain she was in, on the grounds that she did not meet the criteria of having a terminal illness. Though escaping from and living without an eating disorder may seem impossible to one who is suffering from an eating disorder, it is not impossible.
Anorexia can and has, many times, been cured. Though it is not easy to make a complete recovery, with the right treatment techniques and professionals, it is possible, even for those with the poorest of prognoses.
If suicide assisted by a physician is only legal in one state, and if anorexia does not meet the legal criteria, than the people who make these pro-ana websites, and those who offer these tips and tricks on "how to kill yourself", featured on these sites, have absolutely no right, legally, morally, or ethically, to be doing so. They are assisting others in suicide, which is something they have no right to be doing, seeing as we barely give medical doctors the right do so. Furthermore, to receive physician-assisted suicide, you must be of legal age to give consent.
Many of the girls who are visiting these websites are under the age of 18. They could not receive physician-assisted suicide if they were suffering from a terminal illness, therefore, it cannot possibly be legal for any stranger on the internet, who also may be under 18, to be assisting these young girls in their suicide attempts.
Research has shown that those who frequently visit pro-eating disorder websites spend more time in the hospital than those who do not visit these sites. These websites have very serious impacts on people. A young girl, thinking she is fat and needs to lose a few pounds, may stumble upon one of these websites. What happens next may be unthinkable. But, most likely she will look around the website, reading the various tips and tricks to drop weight quickly, but hide it from those around her. She will learn that you can eat whatever you want, but not gain a pound because you can purge yourself of the calories, using exercise, laxatives or vomiting. She will see pictures, or "thinspiration" of thin, rich, smiling, actresses and models.
What she will not see is pictures of emaciated bodies, with extremely dry skin and fine, laguno hair covering their bones. She will not see their eroding tooth enamel, or their ulcers, the dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. She will not see their thinning hair or heart arrhythmias. She will not see their hurt, their sadness and depression, or their broken hearts. She will not see their death. She will see the thin, glamorous models and actresses and wish to look like them. So, she will start to diet and lose weight, thinking she is in control of her actions. She will be recognized and praised for her weight loss, especially by the network of "friends" she has made through pro-ana websites.
They will encourage her to "keep up the good work" and not to "give in to the enemy (food) now". She will feel good about herself and think "I just want to lose five more pounds; Five more and then I will have the perfect body." However, she loses five more and the praise and positive comments and encouragement continue. Five turns into ten, ten into twenty, twenty into forty, forty into the hospital. All of a sudden, the young girl who just wanted to lose a few pounds and was in control of her diet, is now being controlled by her behaviors. She can't stop.
This is not one scenario, this is the course the majority of eating disorders take. This is the very reason why these websites need to be shut down. The rate of eating disorders is rising. The importance we place on beauty and our attitudes towards what we consider attractive, combined with websites such as these are contributing to the increasing prevalence of eating disorders. We must change our beauty ideal and shut down websites such as these, which are promoting self-starvation. Anorexia nervosa is a serious, life-threatening physical and an extremely emotionally painful disease that no one should ever have to experience.
Members of the pro-ana community may argue it is a violation of their rights to be censored. However, freedom of speech does not give anyone the right to help kill another person.
13. "I'm with stupid" Dj Rub remix
March 28, 2006
Dear Fans of Pet Shop Boys and Friends,
In recent weeks all the major sites and communities of PSB fans were amazed by the guy calling himself dj Rub, who provided us with many brilliant remixes of Pet Shop Boys tracks.
These works are not only absolutely professional and giving tracks new lives as remixes are supposed to do so, they have been given enthusiastic reception by PSB fans, with so many hoping that this talented dj and his efforts, will get much more recognition than simple 'thanks' from us.
With hundreds of most devoted and influential PSB fans all over the world, we want Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe to consider putting one of his tracks to start with, on upcoming singles. As the choice for remixers of 'I'm With Stupid' neither brings us pleasent surprises, nor excitement, we are in demand of giving a chance to dj Rub to come off with his works and be included on records of our beloved duo.
Please, if you are PSB fan and happened to get to know excellence and outstanding production by dj Rub from sites such as www.tennant-lowe.com or www.petshopboys-forum.com, do sign petition supporting the idea for official release of his works. The Petition will be forwarded to PSB officials.
Your help will be appreciated. We all have dreams to come true, but this guy has yet something else, he has talent and fully deserves his chance.
We also wants Psb send to him the samples and loops necesarys and give to him the opportunity of do this remix in a proffesional studio to have the better quality and be good for a official release.
Thank you for your time and support.
14. More prep time at Mark Twain
We, the teachers of Mark Twain, have had minutes added to our day that has taken away from our prep time. As it currently exists, our prep time is from 2:55 to 3:15 (20 minutes). All other sites have one hour of prep time.
Prep times:
Bret Harte: 2:15 to 3:15 (1 HOUR)
Fremont: 2:15 to 3:15 (1 HOUR)
Mark Twain: 2:55 to 3:15 (20 MINUTES)
John Muir: Prep period; (1 HOUR)
Corcoran High: Prep period (1 HOUR)
In the 2002-2003 school year, school began at 8:20 and there was a ten minute recess (1:45 to 1:55) at the end of the day. School was dismissed at 2:35. Prep time: 40 minutes
In the 2003-2004 school year, breakfast in the classroom was enforced. School began at 8:08 (12 minutes earlier) and the ten minute recess at the end of the day was taken away. School was still dismissed at 2:35. The lost of 22 minutes was never adjusted as it should have been. Prep time: 40 minutes
(Note: The teachers of Mark Twain agrued the point that minutes were not adjusted for in 2003-2004 but were not listened to by administration.)
The 2004-2005 school year was the same as described in the 2203-2004 school year. Prep time: 40 minutes
In the 2005-2006 school year, school begins at 8:10. There is a 20 minute tutoring/detention period at lunch and the day was adjusted for this by adding 20 minutes on to the end of the day. School is dismissed at 2:55; leaving us with only a 20 minute prep period. Prep time: 20 minutes
(Note: Not all teachers voted to have the 20 minute tutoring/detention added on to the day)
In 2005-2006, school should still have been dismissed at 2:35 making up for the 20 minutes that was lost in the 2003-2004 school year (The two minutes were accounted for by making school start at 8:10 instead of 8:08).
15. Improve services at Ten Club/Pearl Jam sites
Dear Ten Club/ Pearl Jam management.
This is not an easy thing to do, but you have left us, your fans, with no other choice than to have our voices heard in unison, to alert you to the seriousness of our frustration, and downright anger, with your services at Ten Club.
We are all faithful fans who continuously give you our hard earned money so we can get the benefits of the Ten Club.
If you are not aware, the reason why most people join the fan club is to be able purchase tickets for shows to see the band live. The fan club single, and the occasional newsletter is nice, even though it is called a Xmas single, and well we all know, that calling it that, is a little bit silly now, isn't it? This is no big deal though, as most of us fans out there are appreciative of the band putting out singles for us to listen to, and we know, it's kind of a joke, wink wink, at calling it a Xmas single.
The reason why this has come to this point is after years of knowing that anytime there was any news about the band, the Pearl Jam board and Ten club site would crash, it has finally reached the point of us as a collective, saying, NO MORE!
There may be many fans of the band who do not ever use the internet as a way of finding out about shows, or getting tickets to see these shows, but if that is the case, they did not join the fan club for the same reasons so many of us did. This is not about if we did or did not get tickets to the Phili show, which went on sale today August 1st.
What it is about, is the demand from each of us who will sign this, to have a message board that works for the fans. One that alerts us to news when we need to know it, and more importantly a ticketing site that works fairly, and properly when shows are being sold.
Surely you understand the demand for tickets from us members. We deserve to have our purchasing options run as smoothly as possible for the fees we pay.
I know the band may not be aware of just how big their fan base with internet access is, but they should be. A system set up like this Philadelphia buy will just not work. We are sure that the people who work at Ten Club do their jobs to the best of their ability, and they deserve to be paid for doing so. In saying that, you should know in the last two years our membership fees have been raised twice, again we understand and have no problem with that, it's part of life that fees will eventually be raised.
However in understanding this fact, we all hoped the problems of the past would be solved with the flow of more revenue being raised, instead it seems you are going backwards in your service. In doing this we thought it was the only thing the fans could do, to try and make things better for everyone.
Please alert the band to this problem, if they don't know, they should, if they don't care once they find out, then we as their loyal fans are maybe not the sharpest tools in the shed for being so, but that is a road to be crossed at another time.
Again, this was not an easy thing to do, we love the music the band creates, we appreciate all they do for us, but action is needed to correct the many problems that are associated with Ten Club and the overall Pearl Jam online experience. We all hope you take this seriously, and work to fix the problems and make this a painful, but forgotten memory.
Please use our extra 5 dollars to either hire more capable people to work on the sites, or better yet, find a server that can deal with the demand that is placed on yours, anytime anything is happening in Pearl Jam land.
We see your post, and that is a start to a better future, but we are going through with this petition, because honestly, we have seen repeated messages in the past about promised improvements in the Pearl Jam/Tenclub sites functioning better, and have seen the evidence lacking of that ever occuring.
Thank You for reading this, we sincerely hope this is the beginning of something better for everyone.
16. Rivals Re-Design
This is a petition for all of the Rivals.net publishers to sign to show how eager we are for a new design of our websites on the Rivals network.
We have kept the same design of our sites for around four years and feel its time for a new design to be implemented.
Please give your support to this by stating your name and the site which you run.
Ticket touting is a million pound industry that blights the enjoyment of thousands of people. Fans should be entitled to buy tickets at fair prices without the constant threat of losing out to ticket touts.
We call upon the British Government to tackle this problem that cannot be ignored any longer. Please consider the following;
Instruct the Live Music Forum to investigate the impact of touting and scalpers upon the live music industry (which has proved to be successful in the Victorian State Government in Australia)
Encourage limits on the number of tickets available in any one transaction.
Encourage a 'free returns' policy like in theatres. This limit the number of tickets sold to touts when holders cannot attend an event.
Encourage internet auction sites to clamp down on illegal ticket touting on their sites.
The Football Association are searching through football club fan sites and threatening legal action against those sites displaying league fixtures without having previously paid a prohibitive license fee to the FA for the privilege of doing posting their 'property'.
Many smaller fan sites are run by private individuals with the interest of their club at heart, and not any personal private gain, unlike the FA or individual clubs. As such, such a demand for the privilege of posting such information that can be found anywhere on the worldwide web, or in the paper media, restricts the right of the individual to attempt to present a 'professional'-looking web site.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, protest at the money-grabbing antics by the FA, and urge them to consider allowing bona fide fan sites to publish league fixtures without cost to the webmaster.
19. Regulate Underage Internet Gambling
We have all heard about the growing number of gamblers over these past few years. This is largely due to the growing trend in internet gambling. However, if it is illegal for anyone under 21 to gamble, why are teenagers being able to sign up, open an account, and play online for real money? However, there are some sites out there with software that can detect a real person's age, so why don't they ALL implenment this software? This law should be set straight across the board. There is no question that teens are at the most risk of falling into the habit of internet gambling. Let's put a stop to this before it gets worse!
The government today is looking to prohibit all internet gambling in the U.S., however this will cause more harm than good. We saw it happen in the 1920s when alcohol was prohibited/banned. It will just drive the industry into an illegal criminal element through underground markets. So instead of banning internet gambling altogether, we should have all gambling sites licensed and regulated so that they provide a fair, honest, and reputable atmosphere.
Included in this regulation should provide all gambling sites to implement the software that can detect a real person's age.
20. Make certain hacking organizations legal!!
I think that certain hacking organizations should be legal. Take Legends of Chaos for example. They hack a lot, but they hack porn sites and get information from countries the U.S. is at war at. I think that as long as you're a member of one of these groups, you should be allowed to hack, as long as you're only going to do it to illegal websites. That's all.
21. Stop Wasting Tax Dollars On BareBackers
Our newly elected Government, the Ontario Liberal Party, is currently in crisis due to a MAJOR Deficit left upon them by the former Government, The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. One of the Policies of the former Ontario Government, (The Conservatives), was to spend BILLIONS of Taxpayer's hard earned dollars funding Medications for Homosexuals to have WILFUL UNPROTECTED sexual intercourse thereby, BLATENTLY AND PURPOSELY perpetuating the spread of AIDS, which is a disease that affects ALL Human Beings be they Straight, Gay, Male, Female, Child, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, or anyone else. AIDS has no race hangup-it will kill ANYONE it touches-PERIOD!
Now, why should we as hard working citizens be losing our hard earned Tax Dollars to allow this kind of "Disgusting" behaviour?
Our children go to school hungry, parents now have to PAY for their children's books and school supplies, classroom overcrowding, nurse shortages, Hospital waiting lists, a health care system in crisis, transit systems barely able to operate, roads/highways/bridges in need of repair, seniors and homeless needing shelter and medicines, youth needing job training, housing costs, rent controls, and the list just goes on and on and on......>
And yet, we fund BILLIONS of dollars a year for these sick individuals to continue their disgusting lifestyles.
Here is a quote from a site called 'Bareback.com'-(this is just one of THOUSANDS of sites on the internet devoted to this topic of unsafe sex known as "BAREBACKING")

There you have it!
SICK HUH?!
And that is just ONE of thousands as I mentioned.
Now by the way, there are "Bug Hunters" as you may have noticed.
These are Men who are PURPOSELY trying to get infected so that they can go on Permanent Disability paid for by YOUR tax dollars so they don't have to work and can spend their lives having "Pig Sex" as often as they can while collecting YOUR hard earned money.
I say we put a stop to this unacceptable behaviour NOW and we lobby the New Premier of Ontario, The Honorable Dalton McGuinty to put an end to funding for the Medication of these people AND, if they are healthy enough then they should not be entitled to Disability until they are in a position where they can no longer work.
HIV is NOT a life threatening illness. Many people work knowing they have it, and MANY work for years without even knowing they have it. It is therefore NOT a Disiability and we could save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year if we just "Declassified" HIV as a life-threatening illness UNTIL it DOES become one. Many people live very healthy lives for years with HIV, they can therefore work and pay taxes and support their own medical expenses if they want to behave they way they do.
And on a final note, an HIV infected person having unprotected sexual contact with another person IS a Criminal Offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and they CAN be charged and even jailed for it.
22. Speak your mind about Neopets' new chat boards!
Recently, one of the most entertaining
features of a very popular website was
ruined for no apparent reason. The
website was Neopets.com, the feature:
its famous chat boards. While there are a few similarities between the old and new chat boards, there are massive
differences. For example, if you went on the old chat boards and clicked on
"General Chat", it would take you to a
page that, with no bells and whistles,
linked to several separate message
boards. People who created the
message boards could post in either
plain, italic, bold, or the former two
combined. There were no pictures on the board except for basic, unanimated
smiley faces that could be inserted into text.
It was a simple and beautiful system.
And now, out of nowhere, this new
system was shoved in. Instead of simple chat boards that let us just chat, we have boards that are so stuffed with unnecessary features that they load too slowly to allow the natural flow of conversation! We can no longer can customize our posts, they are all automatically bold. I ask you, do we really need things bolded for us? Do we need avatars to slow down the flow of conversation just for the sake of bells and whistles? Do we need every post to be outlined in its own box, when they were perfectly easy to read before? The answer is no. We need to send this message to
the Neopets Team: we want you to KISS
the chat...Keep It Simple Stupid(s)!
Why do we want it simple? Because chat
should be about chatting, about
communicating and sharing ideas, not
about showing off with a fancy chat
system or images! The internet itself
should be about creative pages that
express feelings and use images in
artistic ways, not about having pages that are jammed with so much clipart and fancy HTML that it cheapens the real meaning of the pages. We're not in favor of the internet returning to all text, but we feel these add-ons should be used to ENHANCE the purpose of the page, not lessen it. If Neopets, one of the post popular sites on the internet, gets away with changing its chat boards, other sites
will imitate. When will they stop? Maybe never, maybe pages will keep getting more and more crowded until only those rich enough to afford fast internet connections will be able to enjoy what is supposed to a global resource. The point is: We believe the simple fact is that chat boards should be about CHATTING.
So if you feel like we feel, if you are in favor of a KISS approach to webpage design, SIGN THIS PETITION. Even if you don't plan to use the Neopets chat boards, sign it for the principals we have presented. Because, really, aren't communication and free speech what the internet should be all about?
-Goldfish, Oldandrea, and Vicxy
People die every year from these sites, they follow the so called 'thin commandments' and they end up dead, left as skin and bones, I think that if we can close these sites we may save some lives, please support this case for the young girls around the world.
24. Annoyance with fileplanet.com and other sites like it
I have been annoyed for a long time by sites like fileplanet.com and other sites that put you in line and make you wait to get the file you need. I am positive that there are thousands and thousands of people out in the world who think the same way. Please sign my petition to show those people that this kind of service is annoying and frustrating.
25. Ban Pro Ana/ Pro Mia Websites
There are Pro Anorexia/Pro Bulimia websites all over the Internet, easily accessable to our children who are quite impressionable and lacking win the self-esteem department.
If these websites cannot be banned then they must have the same thing as porn websites. If you choose to visit these sites you must provide ID to prove you are age 18 and over, otherwise access is denied.
I think that's only fair to all involved, even though I think that websites that promote sickness are wrong. I know that we can only do so much.
26. Stop Pro Anorexia Web Sites
These Web sites promote self harming and deadly behaviour and make it seem as if having anorexia is a gift. You don't see any one creating web sites like " Yay , Let's get cancer!". These Websites have pictures of anorexic girls with huge writing saying discusting things like " Anorexic Queen" and "Never too thin". These Websites basically promote people killing themselves. Not only to these sites have gross pictures they have dieting tips and ways to hide food from your parents. We say, STOP THIS !!!
27. Responsible Rehab of Orphaned Wild Animals in Ontario
The majority of orphaned baby animals the Ottawa Carleton Wildlife Centre (OCWC) receives for care come in alone or in pairs. For successful socialization and reintroduction to the wild, they are put in normal family-size groups of four to five animals. They spend many weeks together or, in the case of some species, many months, and are released together at carefully selected foster volunteer sites that have all the natural features necessary for their survival.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources regulations now demand that each animal be separated from its group and released back to within one kilometer from where it came.
OCWC will not be party to what we know are inhumane and irresponsible release regulations. Separating animals that have bonded as a unit and taking a single terrified animal back to almost-always inappropriate sites where they are not wanted and where there is no interim care, means animals will have no chance of survival.
If the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre is to remain open to help wildlife, this regulation must be changed.
Please protect our wildlife and ensure the future of OCWC and other rehab centres in Ontario by reading and signing the Petition.
28. Limit Youth Access to Pro-Ana websites
The internet is a very powerful tool that can be used to reach many people. Unfortunately, when you reach many people, you reach an audience commonly found to have a herd mentality. This is so for any age group, however, teenagers often have this mentality augmented by a poor self-image of themselves. There are sites out there that are less of a support group, and more of a feeding frenzy of the triggers that make people fall into this idea that they should starve themselves. This only works hand in hand with the media saying that these models with lower-than-healthy BMI's are the epitome of beauty.
My point is this. Though we can't control the media, we can try and make it so that there are restrictions at the front pages of these pro-ana sites. Making it an offense similar tas with a pornography site stating that minors should not enter into the site any further without knowingly risking state level prosecutions. I have seen genuinly supportful pro-ana sites. But even still the line between these two types is almost as thin as the pictures of women shown there. If State and Federal Laws are passed making it illegal for minors to view the pictures deemed inappropriate or harmful, we will be treating just like every other offensive, unhealthy or potentially harmful practice such smoking or drinking. This is the stance that the Pro-ana supporers take when speaking about the decisions they have made as adults. Provide young people with a means for support and expression, but have a commissioned group to decide if a site in question should be deemed inappropriate of minors. After all, you won't see AA host their meetings in a liqour store.
29. Pro-Acceptance of Anorexics on the Web
Online censorship has reached new heights in this day and age, when Mothers Against Everything Under the Sun rule, and the massive witch-hunt of pro-anorexia sites that has been recently sweeping the web is an almost inevitable result of a society that bows down to them. As a result of overprotective parents and overly zealous webhosts who are eager to cater to their wishes, hundreds of sites have been shut down in one of the largest sweeps of censorship in the history of the web. Many of these allegedly "pro-ana" sites are actually pro-support, and their refusal to actively bash anorexics who are unwilling to recover has earned them hate mail and censorship by their free webhosts. Just having the word "anorexic" in a sentence, not followed by "recovery", is practically enough to get a site banned by free webhosts such as Angelfire and Yahoo. With such poor judgment in evaluating which sites are harmful and which are not, is it any surprise that this petition had to be written?
30. Aces Missing In Alston's Deck
The Federal Government is planning to ban all forms of Australian Licensed Internet Wagering Services. Legislation to be debated in Federal Parliament in June 2001 will, if passed, require all licensed Australian Internet Wagering Providers to close down their Internet Services.
Whichever way you look at it, Communications Minister Senator Richard Alston's attempt to ban internet gambling amounts to nothing more than a deeply flawed empty gesture from a hypocritical Government concerned not with policy, but with promoting a kind of nannyism which makes sense only to the politically gullible.
The British website "The Register" (www.theregister.co.uk) took one look at Alston's announcement last month and declared: "This man must be the biggest Luddite in history." It went on to say Alston's proposals pointed to "an overwhelming miscomprehension of the Internet" which "seems dedicated to ... destroying Australia's internet industry."
And we wonder why our currency is heading south so fast it will soon match Glenn McGrath's batting average. The world looks at Australia to now see an online gambling ban alongside worthless pornography legislation, a bizarre copyright ruling involving the forwarding of emails and a digital TV debacle of bewildering proportions. However, there's no denying gambling is a problem. We are veracious punters. This puerile logic has been used to decide the Government's online gambling legislation. If you have a computer, then you're just a click away from being a pathological punter. What hasn't been recognised is the fact that betting via the internet is a matter of choice and a matter of convenience. By denouncing Alston's moves and calling for the maintenance of our democratic and net freedoms, I am not trying to encourage gambling, quite the opposite. The net is built on a culture of freedom -- not just financially -- but also in an individual making choices, and as such, it should be free of controls, censorship or Alston-style regulations.
We can expect some strange rules within the legislation. If you believe a word Alston and Co are saying, they must also be dedicated to portraying Australians as heartless exporters of misery and family degradation. Why? Australian gambling sites will not be allowed to serve their compatriots, but they will be permitted to transact with foreigners. Obviously, our ministers feel no social obligation to a struggling family in Auckland blighted by gambling. They don't vote here, so to hell with them! Also, "Australian businesses wanting to offer betting services will attract off-shore customers", says Alston, "because we are seen to be a 'safe place' in terms of collecting". It's bizarre... we as Australians can't have "safe" services; however outsiders can?! The Government will not make ISPs filter gambling traffic, a tacit acknowledgment that a ban, in the true sense of the word, is an impossible mission. Therefore, Australians will be able to gamble on overseas sites. Just to recap ... Aussies can't gamble in their own country, but foreigners can, yet Aussies can go to overseas sites for a bet. The result of this will be pretty simple: Australians with a gambling problem will do their dosh overseas, and our local, legitimate gambling industry will be on the next flight out of here. Worst of all, this legislation lets the sharks back in to replace respectable businesses, such as Lasseters Casino, SportOdds, Centrebet, Readbet etc.
What are they smoking in Canberra? Some responsibility for this debacle has to taken by the National Office for the Information Economy, which is completely out of touch. It asked a services vendor -- of all organisations -- for a report on the possibility of enforcing a complete ban. NOIE reports: "ComTech found there are technologies available to implement a ban on interactive gambling. The Government could deploy these technologies at various 'enforcement points'. However, none of the technologies would be 100 per cent effective at preventing access to offshore interactive gambling sites and all would have negative consequences for internet performance." Gartner analyst Joe Sweeney says such a move would cost at least $US300 million ($612 million) and send many of the smaller ISPs to the wall.
The fact is, no-one can enforce a blanket ban on anything on the internet. China and the Gulf States continue to wage a pathetic war against freedom of information in the same way -- and they continue to fail. It is obvious that the Australian Government are ignorant of the fact that the net was designed by the US Defence Department specifically to avoid blocking.
If online gambling is banned, then where does that leave cyber share trading, which has been called the riskiest casino of them all, capable of hooking day traders into a cycle of addiction, loss and suffering? Talk about a modern version of Reefer Madness!
A solution to curbing online gambling abuse is relatively simple and does not require John Howard's parental methods. Firstly, regulation rather than prohibition should be encouraged. Only if gambling operators felt the rules outweigh the benefits, would regulation fail. Problem gamblers, or those under-age, could be dissuaded in a number of ways. Consider these US Internet Gaming Council tactics:
* Compulsory site membership before placing a bet. Applicants to supply proof of age.
* Establishment of a $1000 account before a gambler is allowed to play and a float never to be less than $200.
* Credit cards as the only form of payment (No-one under 18 is permitted to own one).
* Establishment of list of identified problem gamblers that casino sites should bar.
* Obligation on credit card companies and banks to approve transactions online with only approved online gambling sites. A government list of approved gambling sites, so gamblers know they are going to get a fair shake of the dice.
Many countries were looking to Australia for leadership on the issue of online gambling -- and an unworkable and flawed blanket ban was the best we could come up with. It's a pretty sad indictment on a country once renowned for its ingenuity and courage.
Sign this petition OPPOSING the Federal Government's proposal to ban all forms of Internet Wagering on racing & sports events by licensed Australian Operators, and it will be submitted to the respective offices of Prime Minister John Howard and Senator Richard Alston. Protect your right for online choice, convenience and freedom.
