Maryland/Shortland Scout group is a not for profit volunteer organization which provides the local youth aged 6-18 with an opportunity to gain life skills in a fun supported environment.

The origins of the Scouts Australia movement began in 1908 and has progressed to become one of the leading youth organisations in Australia, that is committed to the growth and development of our youth. A vast number of youth that have gone through the scout movement have gone on the become Industry leaders.

Maryland /Shortland Scout Group has been an active community supporter for more than 20 years and has grown to include almost 100 youth from Joeys to Adventurer Scouts despite having no visible presence in the community.

As the land is located in a greenfield development area the community is in dire need of social infrastructure as well as infrastructure that meets the needs of our youth. We believe this to be a vital asset and resource to our growing local community."

3. We Want Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies!

Remember when you used to wait all year for those thin mints? Those delicious Samoas? For many of us, this all changed once we were diagnosed with Celiac Disease.

If you have Celiac Disease, or your child has Celiac Disease, and you believe that the Girl Scouts should create at least one gluten-free cookie variety, then sign this petition! Doesn't it seem unfair that a little girl with Celiac Disease sells these cookies and makes the Girl Scouts money, but she can't even enjoy one of these cookies herself?

With Celiac Disease diagnoses on the rise, the Girl Scouts need to wake up and cater to the needs of their clientele. Time to make gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies!

4. A Living Wage for all Oxford University employees

A Living Wage is the minimum level of pay required to maintain a decent standard of living. Unlike the minimum wage, it takes into account many factors including the actual costs of housing, council tax, transport, food and childcare in that area.

The Living Wage is calculated by a formula from the National Income Standard, which is authorised by the Rowntree Trust.

Oxford City Council pays a Living Wage. The Greater London Authority promotes and pays a Living Wage. Universities, such as UCL and LSE, pay a Living Wage.

It is time Oxford University pays a Living Wage.

This petition demonstrates the wealth of student support for the Living Wage Campaign and will force the university and colleges to recognise that this is an important student and community issue.

How you can get involved:

1. You can come along to weekly meetings and get involved in helping to run the campaign. If you are interested in becoming a regular member please email: livingwage@ousu.org

2. You can be someone who we call on when we need to show the university that our campaign has support across the wider student community. This involves showing up to demonstrations and signing this petition! See ”What’s on in OUSU” in the OxStu for updates.

5. Change The Rules Of The Guiding Association

The background to this petition is to stop the scout and guiding association being sexist.

Point is that girls can go to scouts and do Quazar and paintballing e.t.c so why should girls in the guiding movement not be allowed to do it too? There is no difference. I say bring an end to the sexist behavior in the scouting and guiding movements.

6. More government support for Boy Scouts of America

July 12, 2006

In this petition it is clear that I want to bring back the goverment's influence on the Boy Scouts of America.

At the end of the last Boy Scouts Jamboree marking a 100 years of Boy Scouts, the Scouting organization was in formed that the U.S. Army National Guard would no longer be able to help run the event in future years due to the seperation of god and state. Thats a bunch of bull!

I am a boyscout at the age of 15 and would like to see the goverment's influence in the up coming jamborees because 1, they have been doing it through the years and 2nd, because they supply a lot of the supplies to make it happen so i would like to see them come back to help once again.

Thank you for your understanding.

7. Agree With Salvation Army

January 31, 2002

Gay activists are attacking and harassing the Salvation Army as they have attacked the Boy Scouts and Dr. Laura as well as any one or organization that believes homosexuality is wrong.

The attack began during the 2001 Christmas season (in the form of dropping fake dollars in red kettles, with comments: this would be a donation if you did not discriminate against gays) and will continue as it has for the Boy Scouts and others long after.

Gay rights groups have hinted that a broad-based national campaign may be unleased when the time is right. (Mark O'Keefe, sunhearald.com) David Smith, a spokesman for the Washington based HRC, a leading gay rights group said, The same thing will happen to them that happened to the Boy Scouts.

8. Syracuse University: Don't Abandon the Boy Scouts

There was little debate, no dissension and no vote when Syracuse University Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw consulted his board of trustees executive committee April 6 about barring the Hiawatha-Seaway Council of the Boy Scouts of America from using the Carrier Dome for its annual Boypower Dinner.

The Scouts had used the Dome and the university's catering service for 17 of the past 18 years, raising as much as $500,000, before Shaw decided that the Boy Scout policy excluding openly homosexual adult leaders was at odds with the University's mission.

However, in June 2000, the United States supreme Court ruled that the Boy Scouts, a private organization, were within their constitutional rights to bar homosexuals as scoutmasters. Syracuse University is penalizing the Boy Scouts of America because the almost-century old organization both refuses to nullify its pledge to be "morally straight" and will not abandon its central mission to teach young boys what George A. Davidson, a lawyer for the organization, described to the Supreme Court as "true manliness" - a man's responsibility in marriage and fatherhood.

9. Against gay leadership in the Boy Scouts of America.

May 6, 2001

Having lost in the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in June 2000 that the Boy Scouts, a private organization, were within their constitutional rights to bar homosexuals as scoutmasters, homosexual activists retreated from the federal courtroom to re-deploy their forces at the state and local level.

In other words, homosexual rights activists are willing to do all they can to ostracize or even destroy the Boy Scouts unless the almost-century old organization both nullifies its pledge to be "morally straight" and abandons its central mission to teach young boys what George A. Davidson, a lawyer for the organization, described to the Supreme Court as "true manliness" - a man's responsibility in marriage and fatherhood.

Such principles may sound uproariously quaint and beyond corny to society's moral relativists, but they remain even now an anchor against civilization's drift into unfettered decadence.

10. Against the Girl Scout leadership using film "That's A Family!"

May 04, 2001

The producers of the pro-homosexual video "That's A Family!" claim that Connie Matsui, President of the Girl Scouts, has praised the film and plans to use it in informal teaching with your girl scouts.

The Clinton White House hosted a screening of the video last November 2000 when Matsui was present and made the comments. Chasnoff and Cohen who produced the video trumpet Matsui's endorsement on their website at www.womedia.org.

11. TELL THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA TO STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST GAYS AND LESBIANS!

The Boy Scouts of America has decided to actively discriminate against boys and men who are gay. The Boy Scouts of America has decided to discriminate aginst these individuals and even throws them out of the organization. Having discriminated against women in the past, and currently discriminating against girls, athiests, and gays and lesbians, the BSA's policy does nothing but hurt everyone.
