241. Keep Camelford's Fields Green

There are two proposals within Camelford for a Foodstore:

Plan A: The old Camelford Primary School Site on the Industrial Estate.

Plan B: Victoria Road Green Field Site (Bordered by Conservation Area) The North side of Victoria Road is within the Conservation area and a large proportion of Victoria Road contains listed buildings with significant historical relevance. The NCDC Camelford Conservation Area Appraisal reports that “Victoria Road displays considerable variety of form and finish, making it one of the most interesting residential streets in this part of Cornwall.”

We, the local residents, businesses and organisations of Camelford, oppose any development on the “Site B” Victoria Road green fields on the grounds of the increase of traffic congestion & emissions and light & noise pollution.

242. Stop the Spanish Property Roadshow: Open letter to David Lidington

An open letter to David Lidington, MP, Minister for Europe

Dear David Lidington,

On 4 May 2011 and again in June, Sr. Jose Blanco, the Spanish Development Minister (El Ministro de Fomento), is to head-up a road show in London to encourage British buyers of property abroad, whether as an investment or for their own private use, to consider once again purchasing property in Spain.

If you have read the two major reports undertaken, published and approved by the European Parliament over the last 6 years you will be well aware of the problems encountered by purchasers and would-be purchasers of property in all parts of Spain but particularly in Valencia, Andalucia, Murcia and Almeria. These reports co-authored by Michael Cashman and Marcin Libicki in 2006 and by Margrete Auken and David Hammerstein in 2009 detailed the irregularities and outlined the pitfalls of purchasing property in Spain. Over the same number of years, there have been numerous attempts from MEPs of all political persuasions to draw attention in the EP to the scandalous practices which appear to be perfectly acceptable by the Spanish Government. I refer to those of Roger Helmer and Sir Robert Atkins (Conservative), Glennis Wilmott and Michael Cashman (Labour), Margarete Auken (Green) and Marta Andreason (UKIP) amongst others, all of which can be viewed on the EP website.

Petitions have been, and are being, written to authorities both here and in Spain. http://www.spanishpropertyscandalpetition.co.uk/ and http://www.bankguaranteesinspain.com/

Petitioners themselves have spoken in the European Parliament Petitions Committee - Suzanne Wyatt in 2009 bearing a petition with well over 1000 signatures and Maura Hillen in April 2011 representing large numbers of the AUAN organisation concerned with property abuses in the Almanazora Valley. The facts they presented are truly horrific.

Mr. Lidington: the Spanish Minister, Sr. Blanco, needs to be confronted. You are the man to do it. We elected you to do it.

We request, therefore, that any permissions gained by Sr. Jose Blanco to promote the purchase of Spanish Property here in the UK should be withdrawn immediately until such time as monies are returned under the Spanish Bank Guarantee scheme (which was specifically drawn up to combat corrupt practices) and until the backlog of court cases are dealt with fairly according to the very excellent laws of Spain.
These laws (Ley 57/68) are currently being flouted, blatantly ignored and/or deliberately misinterpreted by developers, banks, lawyers, judges and town hall officials. When seen collectively, it beggars belief. The Spanish Government, of which this man is a part, has to take responsibility for the absurd mess its property market is in. Since 2006 Michael Cashman has consistently called for “the authorities in Spain … to put their house in order. If they fail to do this then the European Commission may have to use its power to withhold funds until they do.”

Sr. Jose Blanco, representing his government, should not be encouraged in this country until he can show a clean pair of hands. Mr. Lidington, we are looking to you to insist on this.

Yours sincerely,
The undersigned who have all been financially and/or physically damaged by the stress experienced in attempting to purchase property in Spain over the last decade.

246. Stop Fluoridation of Des Moines public water supply!

* The FDA classifies fluoride as an "unapproved prescription drug" and has not approved it for ingestion!

* Citizens of Des Moines are being medicated without consent and against their will!

* The EPA allows fluoride to be added to our drinking water, yet silicofluorides have never been safety tested!

Des Moines Water Works recently made the decision to continue fluoridating municipal water. They claim to provide citizens "with a safe, clean, healthy water supply" despite any safety testing.

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie has stated that "citizen safety and health is our top priority" despite any safety testing.

247. Demand Bournemouth Council Defend the NHS

Since the government announced its proposals to reform the NHS, pressure has been growing from all directions calling on them to think again and drop the Health and Social Care Bill. Health professionals, Unions, service users, charities and the public have all expressed deep concerns.

These include the estimated £3 billion it would cost to implement the changes which would effectively privatise almost 1 million NHS staff in England by 2014. Over £80 billion of tax payer’s money will be handed over to GP consortiums and a commissioning board who will be able to introduce major changes without any real public scrutiny or accountability.

Clinical services will be opened up to 'any willing provider' opening the door to cowboy private companies, smashing down quality of care and lead to the NHS being subject to EU competition laws. Foundation Trusts will be free to make as much money as they like from private medicine allowing them to concentrate on more wealthy patients from home and abroad while NHS budgets are squeezed. The expansion of private providers will inevitably bankrupt and close many local NHS services and hospitals. GPs will not really be in charge but will be under the thumb of a remote commissioning board and will not have a say over which providers will be included on the new national register.

The Bill does not protect against conflict of interests between those commissioning and the private providers meaning decisions could end up being based on profit rather than the needs of the patient. Hospital referrals will require the rubber stamping of 'management referral' teams often run by private companies seeking to cut spending.

Due to widespread opposition to the Bill, the government has recently announced a 2 month break in the Bill to "pause and engage". Please sign this petition calling on the Council to support the wishes of the vast majority of the population and contact the local MPs demanding that the Bill is dropped.

249. SLS: Super League Show for England & Wales

Currently the BBC only broadcast 'The Super League Show' in afternoon and evening slots across Northern England regions (North East & Cumbria, North West, Yorks & Lincs, Yorkshire). Whilst viewers in the Midlands, Southern England and Wales can only see it in the very early hours of the morning (usually between 12:00am and 4:00am).

We would like the programme to be broadcast in it's usual afternoon/evening schedule across the whole of England and Wales from 2012.

This is desired because there are now a large number of Rugby League fans living outside of the four Northern England regions mentioned above, as well as two professional clubs that currently play in the Super League competition. We believe that currently the BBC is not making the programme accessible to a broad audience and attempting to widen it's appeal*.

EU-Reformvertrag) in Kraft getreten.

256. EUROPE HAS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MILLIONS OF STREET ANIMALS!

Right in the middle of Europe, millions of street animals are dying year in year out: in killing camps who call themselves animal shelters, or in “freedom” – of hunger, cold, diseases, poison.

Granted, you’ll find local laws forbidding the above – but often enough neither local authorities nor elements of the executive authorities do comply with the laws. Even the most barbarian cruelties to animals go without prosecution because it is not avenged, as a rule.

On December 1st, 2009 the treaty of Lisbon (so-called EU reformation treaty) became effective. The major agreement states that the Union and its member states have to take account of the well-being of the animals as feeling beings.

But the ratification of this treaty does not automatically imply the end of the brute widespread deaths.

This is why we need to suit the action to the word.

258. Change DWP Medicals for Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Fibromyalgia, which has also been referred to as fibromyalgia syndrome, fibromyositis and fibrositis, is characterized by chronic widespread pain, multiple tender points, abnormal pain processing, sleep disturbances, fatigue and often psychological distress. For those with severe symptoms, fibromyalgia can be extremely debilitating and interfere with basic daily activities.

Chronic widespread body pain is the primary symptom of fibromyalgia. Most people with fibromyalgia also experience moderate to extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, sensitivity to touch, light, and sound, and cognitive difficulties. Many individuals also experience a number of other symptoms and overlapping conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, lupus and arthritis.

The pain of fibromyalgia is profound, chronic and widespread. It can migrate to all parts of the body and vary in intensity. FM pain has been described as stabbing and shooting pain and deep muscular aching, throbbing, and twitching. Neurological complaints such as numbness, tingling, and burning are often present and add to the discomfort of the patient. The severity of the pain and stiffness is often worse in the morning. Aggravating factors that affect pain include cold/humid weather, non-restorative sleep, physical and mental fatigue, excessive physical activity, physical inactivity, anxiety and stress.

In today's world many people complain of fatigue; however, the fatigue of FM is much more than being tired after a particularly busy day or after a sleepless night. The fatigue of FM is an all-encompassing exhaustion that can interfere with occupational, personal, social or educational activities. Symptoms include profound exhaustion and poor stamina.

Many fibromyalgia patients have an associated sleep disorder that prevents them from getting deep, restful, restorative sleep. Medical researchers have documented specific and distinctive abnormalities in the Stage 4 deep sleep of FM patients. During sleep, individuals with FM are constantly interrupted by bursts of awake-like brain activity, limiting the amount of time they spend in deep sleep.

Additional symptoms may include: irritable bowel and bladder, headaches and migraines, restless legs syndrome (periodic limb movement disorder), impaired memory and concentration, skin sensitivities and rashes, dry eyes and mouth, anxiety, depression, ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision problems, Raynaud's Syndrome, neurological symptoms, and impaired coordination.

265. The Government of Canada > NOT Harper's Government

The order has gone out from the Prime Ministers Office that Canadian Government Departments "no" longer call our Government 'The Canadian Government'. It seems we are now governed by' The Harper Government'

Canadians are appalled at this action and we refuse to accept this 're-branding' of OUR country for the selfish political gain of one man. We feel this is a very serious matter and not something to be ignored.

266. Support Somaliland independence

Why support Somaliland independence ?

First and foremost, it is important to recollect that, after achieving independence from British colonial rule on June 26, 1960, Somaliland was duly recognized as a sovereign entity by the United Nations and thirty-five countries, including the United States.

Somalilanders rightfully note that they voluntarily joined a union after independence, and that, under international law, they should (and do) have the right to abrogate that union.

The future of Somaliland rests in hands of its people, and we know that Somalilanders voted for independence on 18th May 1991 followed by referendum.

269. Make Poverty History

I want to make poverty history in Africa, in fact I want to make poverty history all over the world, but it takes one step at a time.

Did you know that:

* 315 million people – one in two of people in Sub Saharan Africa survive on less than one dollar per day;

* 184 million people – 33% of the African population – suffer from malnutrition;

* During the 1990s the average income per capita decreased in 20 African countries;

* Less than 50% of Africa’s population has access to hospitals or doctors;

* In 2000, 300 million Africans did not have access to safe water;

* The average life expectancy in Africa is 41 years;

* Only 57% of African children are enrolled in primary education, and only one of three children complete school;

* One in six children die before the age of 5. This number is 25 times higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in the OECD countries;

* Children account for half of all civilian casualties in wars in Africa;

* The African continent lost more than 5,3 million hectares of forest during the decade of the 1990s;

* Less than one person out of five has electricity.

Out of 1.000 inhabitants 15 have a telephone line, and 7,8 out of 1.000 people surf on Internet.

(Thank you FOOD4AFRICA for those statistics.)

It's unfair and unjust for all this to go on and us, in class 1 countries to do nothing about it.
