211. PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM BBC WORLD HAVE YOUR SAY
On Monday 8th August 2011, during the height of major civil unrest, BBC World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service broadcast a phone-in debate on the England riots entitled "Is there a problem with young black men?".
The programme made a clear link between the England riots and the idea that the cause was due to a problem with young black men in general. It invited calls and comments from around the world to respond.
There is no editorial justification for the topic and the majority of comments on the World Have Your Say Facebook site reflect the dismay and shock that this subject has been deemed worthy of a respected international broadcaster.

The BBC's own editorial guidelines state:
"5.4.38. We aim to reflect fully and fairly all of the United Kingdom's people and cultures in our services. Content may reflect the prejudice and disadvantage which exist in societies worldwide but we should not perpetuate it. In some instances, references to disability, age, sexual orientation, faith, race, etc. may be relevant to portrayal. However, we should avoid careless or offensive stereotypical assumptions and people should only be described in such terms when editorially justified."
212. Audit The RSPCA
For many years the RSPCA has been a voice for animals and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly under its banner to save and re-home orphaned domestic pets and horses.
In recent years the organization has spent massive amounts of money on anti-farmer propaganda and other politically motivated activities that take away from the RSPCA's core mission.
The RSPCA is still accepting donations from the community and state government that are given on the basis that they will be spent on caring for orphaned domestic pets and not political lobbying.
213. Public Apology needed from David Starkey and the BBC
David Starkey and the BBC should be made to give a public apology for the unacceptable comments made on the BBC's Newsnight.
Unacceptable comments made:
''The whites have become black''
"This language which is wholly false, which is this Jamaican patois that’s been intruded in England, and this is why so many of us have this sense of literally a foreign country."
"Listen to David Lammy, an archetypical successful black man, if you turned the screen off so you were listening to him on radio you’d think he was white."

214. Recycle Cape Town
Dinner time! On this winter’s eve you decide to make for yourself tomato soup. You start with two cans of tomato base, followed by a container of baby tomatoes, and finish it with a container of cream. As an environmentally conscious person you plan to recycle the two metal cans containing your base, the plastic container housing the tomatoes, and the small plastic container holding your cream. You separate these from your true waste and put them in a small bag destined for the recycling plant.
When it comes time for you to take out the trash you realize you have no idea where to dispose of your recycling collection. It’s easy enough to dispose of your true waste as every street has an abundance of bins destined for disposal at the nearest land fill. So where to put the recycling?
Still having a heart for the environment, you hold on to your small recycling bag. As bowls of tomato soup go by, your recycling bag grows bigger. After enough time this recycling bag has turned into an obtrusive structure in your home.
You realize that in the year 2009/2010 the city of Cape Town produced 1.6 million tons of waste! You’ve read on the City Of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Department’s website that of the six plots of land surrounding the city for land fill, only three are left and they are “quickly filling up.” You don’t want to contribute unnecessarily to the mountains off trash surrounding your beloved city!
Before too long you discover that there are actually twenty drop off sites for your recycling, placed not so strategically throughout the city. After driving to one of these spots you realize that recycling in the city of Cape Town is actually a not-so-efficient way of disposing of your waste. Even further, you realize that none of these drop-off sites are funded by the city’s government. In fact, all recycling drop off points in the city of Cape Town are privately funded. This simple fact is a testament to the heart of the people in this city.
That the city’s waste department can’t afford proper recycling provisions is a fallacy. More of our tax dollars go to funding “company holidays” and lavish private “conferences” than to bettering the life of those in the community. Is it not a simple enough suggestion to propose that everywhere there is a trash bin in the city destined for the land fill, right next to it sits one destined for the recycling plant?
It’s time we demand that our government take more responsibility for recycling in Cape Town. With the government’s funds behind it, recycling can become a simple, everyday activity in our lives.
Recycling is actually an inexpensive option to the statistics of our waste tonnage that will benefit the city by creating jobs and minimizing our waste, and the world at large, by preventing the need to extract resources from our planet only to bury them shortly thereafter in a landfill.
215. Create a Community Health Centre for Markham and Richmond Hill
The diverse communities of Markham and Richmond Hill urgently need access to the integrated model of community-based health care offered by Ontario's Community Health Centres (CHCs).
CHCs are the only primary health care services in Ontario that bring together family physicians, nurses and other health professionals under a single roof to provide team-based care, combined with a wide range of other health promotion and community development services. This comprehensive approach is exactly what is required in Markham and Richmond Hill where there are so many different populations with complex needs -- especially the thousands of newcomers to Canada whose health is often at risk because of factors beyond their control.
Inter-professional health teams providing services from a new Community Health Centre based in Markham would respond to the individual health issues faced by members of these communities. The CHC would also create programs and services that address the wider range of non-medical factors -- the "social determinants of health" -- that are negatively impacting community wellbeing. All of these services would be culturally-appropriate and carefully tailored to respond to the diverse needs of the many different communities living in Markham and Richmond Hill. Other benefits of the new Community Health Centre will include:
* Increasing access to primary health care for those who do not currently have a primary care provider;
* Empowering patients to take charge of their own health through health education, health promotion and disease prevention programs;
* Reducing visits to local hospital Emergency Rooms and reducing costly and avoidable hospital admissions by providing timely access to preventive health care;
In other parts of the GTA, residents are already benefiting from Community Health Centres that deliver integrated and seamless health and social services to a wide range of populations with complex needs. People living in Markham and Richmond Hill, with similar complex needs, deserve access to the same integrated, high-quality services.

217. Diablo 3 Offline Single Player Petition
Blizzard stated in a recent interview that Diablo 3 will require a constant internet connection to play. There isn't any way to play offline. This hurts those without an internet connection, those with slower, unreliable connections, and those that live in rural areas and have dial up as the only means of internet connectivity.
However, Blizzard has been known to listen to its fans/customers in the past, and it is this reason that we bring this petition, not to bully or demand, but to persuade and bring to light the number of those the feel strongly about the exclusion of an offline single player mode.
218. SAY NO TO CUTS IN FRONT LINE SERVICES BY ROSSENDALE - DIYBINMEN
Nature of this Petition:
We the undersigned oppose the cuts in doorstep bin collections at farm, rural, outlying and hard to reach properties, resulting from the Special Meeting of the Council Cabinet on 26th January 2011, because of the negative disruption, cost and littering it causes to residents and all affected neighbours.
We call upon the Council to:
Reverse its decision to end doorstep bin collections. Also to continue doorstep bin collections at these properties, until and unless there has been fair, fully costed and wide ranging consultations with all residents who could be directly and indirectly affected.

BACKGROUND
This petition opposes the cutbacks in household doorstep bin collections. These are being imposed in Rossendale by the council, without consultation or regard for the high cost and negative impact on residents.
Residents affected by the cutbacks pay high Council tax and have a basic right to have household waste collected from their properties. People living in rural areas are being unfairly discriminated against. These are valid reasons why cuts in front line services are not merited.
These cutbacks in front line services are likely to be just the first step. There is real concern that the council will go further in the future by having more residents handle and transfer smelly household waste to central collection points.
Thousands of residents from 700 properties in farm, rural, outlying and hard to reach parts of Rossendale who are having their bin collections axed and will have to take their rubbish up to two miles to their nearest collection point, known as a ‘dump site’.
Thousands of additional properties are affected and residents are opposed to the cuts in front line services and imposition of unwanted ‘rubbish dump sites’ nearby to their homes, to be used for dropping waste for storage and collection.
Waste has to be at the rubbish dump site by 7am on the day of the collection, but cannot be dropped off the night before, meaning residents have to get up at dawn to get there. There are widespread concerns that rubbish will unnecessarily blight residents around the collection points.
Rossendale Council claim they will save £75,800 by binning collections at farms and rural locations, however this figure is unsubstantiated and likely to be significantly overstated when the true costs of setting up the dump sites, changes to staffing practices and provision of car boot liners are taken into account.
Those affected by the cuts say they are being ‘short changed’ after handing over thousands in council tax every year. Many of the rural properties pay council tax of more than £2,000 per year but the council is cutting services with no redress for residents.
A council decision to introduce recycling to around 700 properties was initially taken by the previous Conservative council. However the current Labour controlled council is going further with cuts in front line services and seems uninterested in reversing that decision. Residents are supportive of recycling and are awaiting proposals from the council on a recycling scheme.
The council is claiming that consultations are taking place, but from the outset, continuation of front line collection services has never been an option. Many of the affected residents have not been fairly consulted and have raised concerns to councillors. There is a lot of ill feeling about the way this is being handled by the council. The council is attempting to claim that residents are readily accepting these cuts in front line services and impositions of dump sites, but there is little evidence of this and Councillors are coming forward to acknowledge that there has been an unfair lack of proper consultation before any decisions were taken.
Residents are in the process of organising further meetings. Check back here for details.
Please support your neighbours in opposing the cutbacks by signing this petition and inform everyone you know who has an interest.
219. Stop Neo-Nazis
Killings, bombing, and terror in Norway, Iraq, Afghanistan, Serbia, Chechnya, Latin America, Spain, Japan, as well as government-sponsored terrorism in Syria, Libya, Yemen, and some other parts of the world should be enough to tell the whole humanity that something should be done.
Terrorism (especially government-sponsored terrorism) and Extremism are on the rise. It is high time we took action against terror, oppression, instability, and brutality.
220. Shaw bring us HD Setanta & Gol TV - West Coast !
Shaw does still not carry Setanta or Gol TV in HD.
The only option for Setanta in HD currently is to switch to Bell.
221. Increase Transparency in the Family Courts
The Government opened family courts up to greater media scrutiny, in response to criticism that the current set up is overly secretive in April 2009. This was approved by Parliament. Journalists are able to attend family court hearings in county courts and the High Court from 27 April 2009.
"The provisions in the Children, Schools and Families Act have been universally condemned and should be abolished, the Justice Select Committee says. Instead, ministers should redraft proposals to increase transparency in the family courts, putting the views of children centre stage."
The subject of newspaper reporting of cases heard in the high court namely to do with private and public law. The Children Act 2004 para 251. Section 62(1) amends section 97 of the Children Act 1989 to make clear that the publication of material from family proceedings which is intended, or likely, to identify any child as being involved in such proceedings (or the address or school of such a child) is only prohibited in relation to publication of information to the public or any section of the public. In effect, this means that passing on information identifying, or likely to identify, a child (his school or his address) as being involved in court proceedings to an individual.
The Court of Appeal has decided that the prohibition from identifying children which section 97 of the Children Act 1989 provides only applies whilst the proceedings relating to the child in question are in progress. Once the proceedings have concluded, the protection given by the Act comes to an end, the entitlement to anonymity thereafter being dependent upon an exercise in balancing the Convention rights of those involved. http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/media/media-releases/2006/news-release-1806
Although statistics are published about cases that pass through the courts, these in their nature cannot answer claims that abuses of the system are not identified and that there are effectively no quality controls.
I am a mother of one. I have had my trials and tribulations being a parent, just as all parents have. Supporting my child in a positive direction; encouraging little one to do well in school and understand the diversities of others. My child and I are the victims of racial harassment promoted by the family court system and rubber stamped by our country. My family case is to do racial harassment by our country. Everyone has a unique story to tell. This is my own. http://wp.me/pXLdg-iY
My Daughter has one kidney, which was damaged when she was born. Her medical records reveal that it was I who nurtured her to recovery. The Doctor sang my praises. Trauma promotes ill health in later life. Furthermore I had eight miscarriages, before little one was born. I was beaten up by the police so they could take her and the one social worker who was in attendance stood there and watched, as my daughter looked on from the middle of the room as we fought rolling around on my settee. There were a number of police officers present.
UK FAMILY COURT JUDGES VIOLATE AND DENY HUMAN RIGHTS OF CHILDREN - There is a clear need to increase transparency in the family courts, putting the views of children centre stage. Once a child is proven to be 'Gillick' competent the child must be allowed to attend Court to give their views to a Judge. Guardians ad litem should not in any circumstance give evidence on behalf of a child that will decide the fate of the child. The Court have a duty to prevent hearsay evidence. It is imperative that Parliament quash the power of Guardians ad litem decision to admit the hearsay of a child as evidence in Private and Public family law matters. The more serious the allegation, the greater the importance of ensuring that the accused parent(s) is afforded fair and proper procedural safeguards in civil and criminal matters. There is no public interest in a wrong result. This must include 'Private and Public' Law cases.
That it is fair to admit the hearsay evidence of a child and a Judge's decision to admit it is irrational and constituted a breach of the claimant's Article 6(1) right to a fair hearing and cannot stand.
Qualitative methods produce information only on the particular cases studied, and any more general conclusions are only hypotheses. Quantitative methods can be used to verify, which of such hypotheses are true. This is what this petition is about.

222. Combined sequel movie that continues Eureka 7 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa
Want a combined sequel movie that continues Eureka 7 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa. Sign if you wish. It'll be the first COMBINED MOVIE SEQUEL ever created!
Well, this is hopefully the start of the first ever Combined Anime Sequel Movie or the CASM, for short. This sequel takes place right after the events of Eureka 7: Season 4, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa.
There are multiple similarities between the two anime endings, most common of all being that Ed and Al from FMA and Renton and Eureka from Eureka 7 both end up on Earth in the end of both animes.
I have most of the plot of this new movie already planned out from beginning to end, or most of it. If I were to measure it, I'd say about...90% is already ready for action inside my head.
Even if Bones(Studio) doesn't use my idea, then I'll still want a sequel. You see, I already saw FMA: Conqueror of Shambala, and I was a little bit annoyed by the ending. It never explained fully what they did, besides that uranium bomb thing, and ontop of that, it didn't end with a happy ending. The only happy ending was that the two brothers were together and in their own bodies.
It was a shocking coincidence, to me at least, that when I saw Eureka 7, episode 50, it pretty much ended the same way, with Renton and Eureka on Earth, cut off from everyone they knew. I did not like that, not one bit.
So, if you want to have a CASM (Combined Anime Sequel Movie), then sign the petition. It's not like I can force you to sign or anything, but if you like the idea, or if it just sounds interesting and fun, then go ahead and sign. Hope to see your signature later:)
223. Against Kempsey Rate Rise
Kempsey Shire Council's proposed application to IPART for a Special Rate Variation has been strongly opposed by the Kempsey Shire community, yet despite this the council decided to proceed with the application even though during the 2011 meetings it was firmly expressed it would cause considerable hardship to the community.
It raises serious concerns about community representation on issues affecting the community.
This is an opportunity to have your voice heard, as this petition will be delivered to the organisation IPART who make the decision on applications for Special Rate Variations and who consider community input.
224. President John F. Kennedy's National Holiday
I recommend a national holiday for deceased President John Fitzgerald Kennedy because of all his accomplishments inside and outside of his presidency.
During World War II, John F. Kennedy joined the Navy Branch and became in control of a boat called PT-109 on April 23, 1943 which Kennedy choose to create a new crew with different positions of work for each member. On August 2, 1943, Lieutenant Kennedy was attacked by a Japanese warship called Amagiri which resulted in a sank for PT-109 and a death in Kennedy's crew but Kennedy still found a way to safety for his navy crew. Kennedy's crew gave up to fight and gave up hope because the crew was hurt and damaged but Kennedy pulled his crew together to get rescued by a group of scouts after six days of hiding from the Japanese soldiers.
John F. Kennedy was declared a hero and received six honorable military awards (1.The Navy and Marines Corps Medal, 2.The Purple Heart, 3.The American Defense Service Medal, 4.The American Campaign Medal, 5.The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars, 6.The World War II Victory Medal).
On January 20, 1960, President Kennedy was giving his Inaugural address to the American public and one very important statement was said from Kennedy "And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you- ask what you can do for your country... "One important deed that President Kennedy took into action to save America and Russia from complete destruction and or going into Wold War III was ending the Cuban Missile Crisis that started on October 14 to November 20, 1962. After the Bay of Pigs failed, the Cold War heated up between the Untied States and Russia meaning Russia had given Cuba secret missiles aimed toward the United States which still today is one of America's darkest history stories.
Kennedy planned a peace treaty between the United States and Russia that stated the U.S. will never again invade Cuba in exchange Russia will take the missiles out of Cuba. President Kennedy saved America and Russia and maybe the world because if Kennedy had no idea of a peace treaty and went to war with missiles, the U.S. and Russia could have destroyed the world.
Another great action that President Kennedy took was the creation of the Peace Corps. because he wanted young men and women to serve their country with love and understanding the education of other countries such as Iraq, Italy, China, and much more instead of fighting in a military branch in a war.
Gates of Praise International is a Christian Charity operating in Grays Thurrock for the last 10 Years. We leased an abadoned and derelict yard 4 years ago which has now been renovated. We currently use it as the Administration HQ, Storage for our relief goods and meeting hall.
We applied for a change of use and the local authority rejected the use on the excuse that we have not entered into an agreement to ameliorate the traffic challenges. This was never a discussion at anytime during the application. We were asked to provide reports e.g flood risk assessment, which we did. We have made it clear that we do not constitute to this highlighted problem as we meet outside the hours the other occupants use the estate.
We have a car park for 40 cars and most of the members to site are local. The closest block of flats to the site is about 80metres away. Beneficiaries of the site and our activities include; Little Havens, Thurrock Council Social Services, Ebenezer Homes, St Lukes Hospices, NSPCC, Terrence Higgins Trust, Cancer Research UK, Tearfund, Sightsavers, Family Mosaic, Sanctuary Supported Housing, RSVP. The council has threatened us with an enforcement action which states that we are not to use the site in any connection with a charity. There is no restrictive covenant on the site. It was left vacant for a year before we moved in.
We have made it clear that we will work with the council to remove any obstacle and contribute towards the requested traffic works e.g a pedestrian crossing which has been estimated @ £10k.
We are also prepared to work with the council to find a suitable property in Grays instead of just throwing us out which seems to be the council's intention.
Hunting whales has dated back to 3000BC and should have been made illegal years ago. The ocean is their home just like the land is ours, they did nothing to hurt us so why should we kill them?
They are beautiful creatures and they will become extinct if you ignore all the petitions people are making to get your attention.
227. Legalize Marijuana *(THC The cure for cancer)* in CANADA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2LQvRiJKxQ&feature=player_embedded
A number of studies show that THC provides medical benefits for cancer and AIDS patients by increasing appetite and decreasing nausea. It has also been shown to assist some glaucoma patients by reducing pressure within the eye, and is used in the form of cannabis by a number of multiple sclerosis patients, who use it to alleviate neuropathic pain and spasticity. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is currently supporting further research into these uses.
In August 2009 a phase IV clinical trial by the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel was started to investigate the effects of THC on post-traumatic stress disorders. THC and other cannabinoid agonists have been shown to be beneficial both in open label studies, as well as in laboratory experiments with animals to ameliorate post-traumatic stress disorders.
Preliminary research on synthetic THC has been conducted on patients with Tourette syndrome, with results suggesting that it may help in reducing nervous tics and urges by a significant degree. Research on twelve patients showed that Marinol reduced tics with no significant adverse effects. A six-week controlled study on 24 patients showed that the patients taking dronabinol had a significant reduction in tic severity without serious adverse effects. More significant reduction in tic severity was reported with longer treatment. No detrimental effects on cognitive functioning and a trend towards improvement in cognitive functioning were reported during and after treatment.
Dronabinol's usefulness as a treatment for TS cannot be determined until/unless longer controlled studies on larger samples are undertaken. Research on THC has shown that Cannabinoid receptors are responsible for mediated inhibition of dopamine release in the retina. A growing number of people around the world and in Canada are ingesting Hemp Oil, THC, and curing themselves of life threatening Cancers and other diseases in weeks.
228. Petition against Bill S.978
The bill states that you will not be allowed to stream or post any music or video game play on the Internet. That includes Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and any other major websites. There are many people who's jobs involve posting videos on YouTube. These people who work for gaming companies like Machinima.
If this bill were to pass, many people can lose their jobs. Another example is how some people can become famous by posting themselves on YouTube and singing songs. Many people may dislike Justin Beiber, but he still became famous and signed to a record deal by posting himself on YouTube singing songs by other artists.
229. Introduce a new U.S. visa free system for the Irish
There are approximately 36,278,332 Irish Americans living in the United States of America, estimated at 11.9% of the total population. This information was provided by US citizens who reported Irish ancestry in the 2008 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Eight Irish Americans signed the United States Declaration of Independence, and 22 American Presidents, from Andrew Jackson to Barack Obama, have been at least partly of Irish ancestry, this shows that the people of Ireland and people of the United States share a close bond and this bond should be celebrated with an introduction of the visa free system.
The current Visa Waiver Program is an ineffective solution for most Irish tourists as the program has restrictions of 90 days which is too short to meet family and friends who have emigrated and enjoy the beautiful country and all that it has to offer in relation to touring and travelling the 50 states.
230. Support Staff in Education
Support staff in schools need better working conditions and similar national work and pay frameworks that are offered to the teaching members of staff. We always seem to be getting a raw deal with regards to pay, pensions and working conditions and although we are an integral part of the 'team' within schools, we are often treated like second class citizens.
We’re often employed to do one job but in reality end up doing a lot of work that it outside of the main frameworks out our job descriptions. In a lot of case we end up doing the jobs of 2-3 people! For teaching staff this simply wouldn’t be allowed.
Here are some examples of the issues we face:
If a teacher is given extra responsibilities that are not covered under their contracts, they will be given extra salary for the extra work taken on board. However, in support staff contracts there is often a sentence that goes along the lines of ‘. . .and anything else the head teacher would like you to do.’ Basically saying here’s the job spec but you’ll just end up doing what we want you to do!
Why aren’t support staff paid from the same ‘protected’ pot of money that teachers seem to be paid from? We have had a situation at my place of work where support staff earning barely the minimum wage have been made redundant to save money and teaching staff have been asked to fulfil those missing roles and are getting paid nearly 4x the redundant staff hourly rate! Why? Because they are getting paid from the ‘protected’ pot! This stinks!
As for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), what CPD we should say! Support staff also have to keep up to speed with developments within their own fields of expertise yet we keep keep getting told that there is no funding for this! Yet teaching staff are offered a comprehensive CPD programme and are also often helped with funding for MA's etc.
There are many highly educated and/or extremely skilled staff on the support teams without which the schools would simply not run.
Unions don’t seem to be willing to act on our behalf regarding this and a number of us have already tried writing to the government via our local MP’s but unfortunately we have all received the same stock answers.
This is happening up and down the country and has to stop!
231. Beacon Hill Community Petition - Alcohol Impact Area Initiative
Beacon Hill neighbors have started a project called the Alcohol Impact Area Initiative (AIAI) in an effort to get an Alcohol Impact Area for the hill.
Several years ago the Washington State Liquor Control Board allowed certain areas such as Pioneer Square, the Downtown Core, and the University District to restrict or ban the sale of specific types of low cost, high sugar, high alcohol content beer and wine. These drinks are the beverages of choice for many chronic public inebriates.
Many neighbors have stories of people passing out on their lawn, drinking and loitering at bus stops and being harassed for money outside local stores or on sidewalks. Stories like these were the impetus to create the AIAI.
The process to get an AIA on Beacon Hill will likely be long and involved and the AIAI needs your help in supporting this effort. You can help by signing this petition and also by collecting cans and bottles of the targeted beverages for evidence to officials. A list of the targeted beverages as well as more details on the project can be found on the Facebook page (Beacon AIAI) as well.
232. Allow Petitioning all levels of Australian Government using online methods

This petition is to have the relevant levels of government make online petitioning and submissions an acceptable form.
233. Save Meander Primary School
The state government are trying to close down the heart of this wonderful country town. The school has an excellent record in nation wide testing and offers lots of extra curricular activities.
The school is apart of a fantastic community which has a varied background. Everyone knows everyone by name and the kids thrive in this friendly learning environment.
The school has worked long and hard to find just the right formula for happy fun loving kids who are happy in there learning environment.

The Norfolk County Council propose to enter into a contract which will cost their taxpayers £500 mn over its life, which will have a £20.2 mn penalty if the project does not go ahead and for an incinerator the like of which has sent 29 US counties into bankruptcy.
The companies supplying the incinerator will put in very little cash, the bulk coming from PFI funds. Stop vested interest from destroying Council finances.

238. Support "What Happens When" to obtain a Liquor License
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN (WHW) requests your support, and the support of the residents of Community Board 2, in obtaining an On-Premise Liquor License for a restaurant located at 25 Cleveland Place between Spring and Kenmare. Without the liquor license, WHW will most likely desist.
The temporary restaurant installation has been scheduled to last for a duration of nine months with a menu that changes completely every month along with the decor, music and drinks program (liquor license permitting of course). Michelin-starred chef John Fraser of Dovetail is in charge of the menu along with his creative team, which includes interior designer Elle Kunnos de Voss of The Metrics and brand designer Emilie Baltz.
The focus of the installation is to explore the definition of what a restaurant can be, both as a dining experience and a creative process. Although temporary in nature, WHW is not a "pop-up" restaurant and does have ties to the community. For example, WHW hosts a Monday night dining series called What Happens When Women Take Over, recognizing and collaborating with female chefs, pastry chefs and sommeliers who have influenced the dining landscape. 20% of the Monday evening's net sales are donated to a charitable organization of the chef's choice.
WHW is a restaurant project that will continue to be a good neighbor, respectful of the community in which it operates while also contributing to the nexus of creative activity that SoHo is known to represent.

240. Help Farmers Save the Canadian Wheatboard's monopoly on grain sales
The Election of a majority government in Canada has enabled the Conservative Party to move forward with many initiatives. Manitoba Premier Greg Sellinger has financed an ad campaign to promote saving the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly of the sale of grain in Canada.
Canadian Farmers rely on the Wheatboard to control the price of Grain and ensure they are able to sell their grain at fair market prices. Eliminating the monolpoly will open up competition to outside forces like larger American Corporations like Cargill, et al. This will put downward pressure on Grain prices and force many Canadian Farmers out of the business.
As Canadians it is in our best interest to insulate our farmers from outside competition and insure we are able to sustain our current way of life.
