182. Enough is Enough - NYS-County Medicaid Boycott
Message: The cost of the Medicaid is out of control. The financial burden of the program is placed on County’s and ultimately being shouldered by property tax payers.
The State must take action to take financial responsibility for the program in an effort to lower property taxes in New York State.
Until the State takes responsibility for this burdensome program we are advocating that Counties withhold Medicaid payments made to the State of New York.
Objective: Passage of a bill that requires the State to take over the funding of Medicaid.
Strategy: Build a Coalition of support to withhold Medicaid payments to New York State through the Boycott Petition.
[11/17 Update: In Chautauqua County, the Tea Party Chapter and friends are also circulating a paper petition. This is especially important for those that support the effort but are not online. At present they've collected over 300 signatures. To download a copy usable in any county, go to "www.sttpp.wordpress.com"]
It's a shame that Disney didn't make a story explaining Clopin's origins, instead creating those awful movies they play now days.
Clopin is an interesting character, with both good looks and personality. His background story could be so interesting that it must be made into a movie about how he came to be.
184. No Fracking in WA!
A HORRIBLE DECISION
Mining companies, such as Titan Energy Ltd, have been granted Coal Seam Gas (CSG) mining exploration licences for Wellington Dam near Bunbury, Kaloorup Road near Busselton and Vasse, the Irwin River in the Mid-West and the Canning Basin in the Kimberley.
WHY DOES THIS AFFECT ME?
Water Quality: CSG extraction poses serious risks to fresh water aquifers. The huge volumes extracted from coal seams can lead to major depletions in aquifers used for drinking water, agriculture, other industries and fire fighting. The chemical residues from fracking may cause potentially irreversible contamination to both ground and surface water sources.
Environment: The dissolved salts from CSG permanently ruin good farming land the water contacts, making it useless for agriculture or pastoral production. It is toxic to aquatic life if spilled into creeks or rivers. The latest research conservatively estimates a methane leakage rate of 3.6% - 7.9% of total well production. Over 20 years, this gives CSG a greenhouse gas footprint at least 20% greater than coal.
Health: Of the compounds typically released by CSG; 25% are carcinogenic; 37% affect the endocrine system; 52% affect the nervous system; 40% affect the immune system; and 100% affect the respiratory system.

186. Review Imminent Threat to Sheltered Housing Funding
The proposed cuts to the 'Supporting People' funding for A2Dominion Sheltered Housing sites within the borough will adversly affect the physical, mental and practical support for the elderly and vulnerable residents resulting in the loss of their Sheltered Housing officer (Warden).
The residents currently believe that their well-being, safety on site, site management (housing stock), mental and physical health are greatly cared for under scheme as it currently stands. That the Care Line system is not adequate to replace this, that the quality of support will diminish rapidly and be another faceless representation of community care.
The consultation deadline is 31 October 2011 so this is URGENT please. The council must receive our views so you can sign this petition and /or write to Representations, Supporting People Team, Third Floor Orange, Perceval House, Uxbridge Road,Ealing,London W5 2HL or by e-mail:spteam@ealing.gov.uk.
THANK YOU, we really need and value your help.
187. 20 mph speed limit for Parkhill Road
A study conducted at monitoring sites across the capital in 2009-10 showed roads in Camden were among those to exceed recommended levels of speeding and using
20 mph speed limits have been proven by several studies to significantly reduce road accidents.
TfL casualty studies for 2009-10 show a 40% increase in cyclist casualties in Camden http://www.camdencyclists.org.uk/newsitems/ccc/cyclist-casualties-in-camden-2009-10
They also encourage cycling and walking, reduce carbon emissions by helping the flow of traffic and improve air quality.
There have been 3 reported accidents at the intersection of Haverstock Hill with Parkhill Road in the past 6 months. Parkhill Road in particular, is the main throughfare between Belsize Park and South End Green, where there has been additional traffic over the years. This can also pose a threat of safety to the elderly, school children (The Village school) and fellow residents in the road. Hence a 20mph speed limit would help the community and Village school immensely. Camden Council are now already assessing the speed limits in Haverstock Hall.
Already 7m residents in the UK live in towns which are adopting or have adopted this policy. It is time that Belsize Park, Camden NW3 did too. (For more information see here: http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/ )
Please make a difference and sign! Our goal is to reach 1000 names for this.
188. REMOVE 100 SMS PER DAY LIMIT in INDIA
On September 27 2011, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) brought out a stringent code so as to stop the menace of tele-marketeers.
While it dealt with that issue effectively, with the strengthening of the Do Not Disturb (DND) registry, lurking in it was a troublesome clause, limiting the number of SMSs per day per subscriber to 100. In today's age, SMS has evolved to become an easy, short and quick way for communication, and passing on information at a stretch.
A limit of 100 messages per day to *individual* customers only blocks the flow of vital information, and interpersonal exchange.
189. ACTON BATHS CLOSURE PETITION
Friends, fellow council tax payers and gym users
Did you know?
The council is planning to close this facility as early as the 4th of December 2011?
BUT:
•They have not published or responded to the results of the latest (July 2011) public consultation
•They have no final approved plans for the much lauded regeneration project
•They have no confirmed funding in place
•They have not applied for planning permission
•They have not found alternative facilities for some of the clubs and user groups (as promised) that have served the community for years!
If they are allowed to close this facility – YOUR FACILITY – without any of these commitments in place, we face the very real prospect of an abandoned and derelict building in the heart of our community and the absence of any pool or gym facilities in Acton for the foreseeable future.
190. MINUSTAH should withdraw from Haiti
The MINUSTAH, well known as The United Nations Stabilisation Mission In Haiti, has been in operation since 2004. A year of political crisis, violence and corruption, led to the resignation of the President Jean Bertrand Aristide. But now they are seen like a threat to the human rights, and also to the Haitian People.
"Haiti is in great danger because among others of Cholera, of the poverty the marginalization and of the exploitation of its people " said the Nobel Peace Argentin Adolfo Pérez Esquivel in an interview with the Latino channel TeleSur.
Numerous incidents of rape and other forms of violence have been reported by victims of MINUSTAH... from the 16 years old girl in 2006 to the Haitian teenager (male) in 2011.
Three Nobel Peace, led by the Nobel Adolfo Pérez Esquivel from Argentine, hundreds of NGOs, legislators and personalities of more than forty countries sent to the Secretary General a letter released yesterday in which they requested the withdrawal of international troops of Haiti.
Join the fight if you believe in Peace and want to change the actual situation of Haiti.
191. Increase Subway Service during "morning rush hour"
In early October, 2011, the TTC cut over 310 jobs and decreased the service of TTC subway trains and buses.
During morning rush hour, all the cars on most TTC trains are so full that entering and exiting a train is near to impossible.
Customers sometimes will wait over 10 or 15 minutes to be able to enter a subway car. The people of Toronto are tired of being able to see 15 people in a 1 metre radius of themselves.
We urge that the Toronto Transit Commission increases subway service during morning rush hour.
This petition is a request to reduce the speed limit on the dirt portion of the Williams Valley Road, Stephenson Road, and Williamson Road from the non-posted speed limit of 40 mph to a posted speed limit of 25 mph. The request is being made out of the concern for safety.
As a resident of these dirt roads I have found that it is impossible to safely travel at a speed of 40 mph due to the blind hills and corners of these roads, especially for large vehicles such as school buses, with the inability to stop at a safe distance when approaching pedestrians, animals, and/or vehicles traveling on, entering, or leaving the roadway.
193. Potomac Teachers Want a Voice
The Potomac School Calendar has undergone several major changes over the past three years. The current draft of the 2012-2013 calendar also proposes many changes. For example, the date in which school starts/ends has shifted (August 5, 2012 - June 14, 2013), holidays have been shortened, and teachers are expected to work more days with no pay compensation.
These alterations have caused difficulty for families associated with our schools in planning vacations. Moreover, changes cause people to question the validity of the school's academic program. The reasons behind the changes have not been communicated. Finally, teachers, principals, and schools overall benefit has not been considered.
Because Potomac Conference spans such a broad distance, we have chosen to use technology as a means of communicating to our professional co-workers.
194. Hanasakeru Seishounen season 2
Directed by Chiaki Kon, the first episode premiered on NHK on April 5, 2009.
Plot Hanasakeru Seishounen: Set in the modern era, the story follows the path to romance of fourteen-year-old Kajika Burnsworth, daughter of powerful industrialist Harry Burnsworth, owner of the Burnsworth international conglomerate giant.
Kajika agrees to participate in a "marriage game" with her father, in which she must select her future husband out of three men that her father has supposedly preselected for her.
195. Sign to show you support for an early national election
Julia Gillard is going to keep her failing government in power until the last breath, unfortunately they are going to take the Australian people on a downward spiral with them.
196. Call for action against illegal bird trapping in Cyprus
TENS OF THOUSANDS of migrant birds are being illegally slaughtered in Cyprus annually to feed an appetite for illegal “ambelopoulia” delicacies. Trappers using limesticks and mist nets are making huge profits while threatening Europe’s natural heritage. You can help generate the political will to end this indiscriminate killing by signing BirdLife Cyprus’s petition to relevant Ministers.
Bird trapping in Cyprus has been taking place for many years. It began as a way of supplementing what was once a meager peasant diet. This is no longer the case. Trapping in Cyprus has become a large-scale, high-tech, lucrative business run by criminals. Trapped birds are usually supplied to restaurants that are illegally serving them - a dozen of trapped birds could be sold up to 80 euros. The competent authorities estimate this illegal business to be of the order of 15 million euros per year.
Bird trapping is illegal under Cyprus and European legislation. Trappers in Cyprus use mist nets and limesticks which are non selective methods of capture. 122 bird species have been recorded trapped on nets and limesticks, of which 58 bird species are listed as threatened by BirdLife International and/or the EU Birds Directive.
Moreover it is taking place on a large scale. BirdLife Cyprus (http://www.birdlifecyprus.org/) has been running a systematic monitoring programme on trapping in Cyprus since 2002 and estimates that hundreds of thousands of birds are killed every year. The last 4 years there has been a dramatic increase in trapping in Cyprus and urgent measures are needed to stop this slaughter.
The large scale and non selective nature of illegal trapping in Cyprus constitutes an ecological disaster. A recent film made by BirdLife Cyprus gives an overview of the trapping issue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Kk4B4YJWiQ) and one other film from another organization shows how far the trappers are willing to go to protect their illegal business (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KvpoLNEeDg).
A recent “European Conference on Illegal Killing of Birds” that took place in Larnaca (Cyprus) in July 2011 (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/cultureheritage/nature/bern/News/Cyprus/Cyprus_en.asp) concluded on a clear “zero tolerance” message and BirdLife Cyprus wants to see words transformed into actions. For this reason we are undertaking this petition to put pressure for greater political will to stop illegal bird trapping in Cyprus.

197. Raising Awareness in Results of A Closed-Campus
Due to the recent change from being an open to a closed-campus, there have been many issues that have arisen to the students and/or staffs attention. Including but not limited to crowding of the halls, longer lunch lines, also misbehaviour issues.
198. Sri Lanka Must END APARTHEID EDUCATION of Sinhalese Children
“The textbooks encourage children to develop ‘apartheid attitudes’” toward Tamils. In the 1950s and 1960s, Tamil and Sinhalese scholars vehemently protested this, but the Education Department that produces the textbooks dismissed their concern.
The Sri Lankan government impels planting and nurturing seeds of apartheid and intolerance in the young impressionable minds of Sinhalese schoolchildren through their educational system. http://bit.ly/nd3HQD
SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa has stated: “The elder generation is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a younger generation that will *NOT BETRAY* the country at any cost.” http://bit.ly/oAffpB
PLEASE NOTE! ~ Sometime between 20 Aug 2011 and 24 Aug 2011, someone REVISED Rajapaksa’s words above to the following:
"President Rajapaksa said the elder generation is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a younger generation that will *LOVE* the country at any cost." http://bit.ly/oAffpB (For original "phrase", please go to http://bit.ly/r3Eda7)
Regi Siriwardene, a well-respected Sinhalese writer, in an analysis of the effects of school textbooks on ethnic relations in Sri Lanka (1984): “Millions of school children are taught, in the name of social studies, through text-books published by the state, the myths of divergent racial origins which will help to divide the Sinhalese and Tamils for more generations to come….”
“Why education matters for global security”, http://bit.ly/obK3O9, by Irina Bokova (Director General, UNESCO), 01 March 2011:
“Education must rise on the agenda of peace building. We know the wrong type of education can fuel conflict. The use of education systems to foster hatred has contributed to the underlying causes of conflicts, from Rwanda to Sri Lanka, but also in Guatemala and Sudan.”
Speaking at the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) convention during the US Independence day weekend, Professor Francis A. Boyle, an expert in International Law, said that Sri Lanka is a violator of the Apartheid Convention:

199. Allow the Australian public to vote on whether they support a Carbon Tax
The people claimed to be leading climate scientists won’t debate in public and won’t provide their data. What is it they are hiding? When faced with legal requests they say they’ve “lost” the original global temperature records. Thousands of scientists are rising in protest against this scare campaign.
This is like saying the DNA evidence found at the scene of a murder proves someone is the murderer, regardless of the fact they have 100 witnesses they were somewhere else, and when challenged on the data they advise the original DNA evidence is lost. Would you convict the man they claim is a murderer? No neither would I .
This is what the Government expect us to do with climate Change though, they claim they have empirical evidence of man-made Climate change and that Australia's temperatures will rise to a degree where we will not even have water for crops, and the sea will rise and flood all coastal areas.
But the Government has never shown us this evidence that they are basing their claims on, when a freedom of information request was lodged they say they have lost the original global temperature records, and their top Climate Change scientists, of which NONE are actual climate scientists or meteorologists, refuse a public debate and won't show the data they are basing their opinion on.
200. Stop Crowded Parking Lots
The parking lot at Murphy's Landing Apartments (MLA) becomes sporadically overcrowded, frustrating residents. MLA should assign a number to each parking space, and have a tag for the resident's vehicle matching that parking space number and current license plate.
Parking spaces should be assigned based upon the resident's apartment lease date. This parking space system is needed to utilize parking areas for residents first, guests second. Parking spaces in front of buildings should be reserved for residents only.
The overflow parking areas should be claimed by residents with a second vehicle, then the remainder used by guests.
On the 04th August 2004 at 13:10, my life and that of my family changed for ever when I was shot with a 375 hunting rifle, by one of my ex-employees. I nearly did not survive; the bullet went through the back of my neck which left me paralysed from the neck down. I ended up in Montana Private Hospital.
It was a nightmare as we did not have medical aid, my husband did not have access to our business bank account, if it was not for friends and family who helped with money, the hospital would not even have accepted me. I would have been dead today.
It has now been seven years and I am slowly but surely getting some of my life back. I am able to walk again, I am thankful for that what I can do, as the specialists did not think I would walk again, I still have a lot of pain every day. I get very bad muscle spasms daily and have not found anything to date to help for this.
The court sentenced him to 17 years, 5 years of which was suspended; the cause against him was for attempted murder and the unlawful possession of a fire arm and ammunition. By chance my father saw him in our local Spar and come to me and said that he did not want scare me but he suggest we try and find out he was out. True to life he had been paroled after just spending 6 years in prison. We tried to get an urgent appeal from the high court to keep him away from us but it was turned down, they said we could not prove urgency.
The worst part of this whole ordeal is firstly what it has done to my family and the financial costs then, today and for the rest of my life. I feel that he got 17 years, for what that was worth, I got life. I was a victim and with a lot of hard work I made myself a survivor with the help of my husband and the people around my, now they Correctional System has made us all victims again. If I think of all the pain I have had to endure and still feel today and that man is walking around as if nothing has happened it makes me very mad, why give someone a prison sentence us to reduce it again.
I cannot image that the people making these decisions, do not stop for a minute to think of what they are doing to the survivors of these bad crimes. So to our criminal justice system my life is only valued at six years because that was the only punishment he got for trying to take my life.
Hopefully my story will inspire you and others because I think it is time we do something to get tougher sentence for people committing these types crimes and to keep them in prison.
202. Keep Jalama Beach Local, NO RESERVATIONS
Jalama Beach is changing the campsite process.
County and Park officials are working on changing from a first come first serve basis to reservations only. This will make the beach more accessible to out of area campers.
Jalama Beach is loved by locals for being a spot you can escape at the last minute and enjoy our beautiful Central California Coast.
If this camp site process goes to reservation only the spontaneity that is great about Jalama Beach will be lost.
203. I support Fairtrade at UniSA
Coffee, tea and chocolate are essentials in the diet of all university students.
However, equally important is the right of those who produce these products to fair working conditions and pay.
204. PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM BBC WORLD HAVE YOUR SAY
On Monday 8th August 2011, during the height of major civil unrest, BBC World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service broadcast a phone-in debate on the England riots entitled "Is there a problem with young black men?".
The programme made a clear link between the England riots and the idea that the cause was due to a problem with young black men in general. It invited calls and comments from around the world to respond.
There is no editorial justification for the topic and the majority of comments on the World Have Your Say Facebook site reflect the dismay and shock that this subject has been deemed worthy of a respected international broadcaster.

The BBC's own editorial guidelines state:
"5.4.38. We aim to reflect fully and fairly all of the United Kingdom's people and cultures in our services. Content may reflect the prejudice and disadvantage which exist in societies worldwide but we should not perpetuate it. In some instances, references to disability, age, sexual orientation, faith, race, etc. may be relevant to portrayal. However, we should avoid careless or offensive stereotypical assumptions and people should only be described in such terms when editorially justified."
205. Audit The RSPCA
For many years the RSPCA has been a voice for animals and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly under its banner to save and re-home orphaned domestic pets and horses.
In recent years the organization has spent massive amounts of money on anti-farmer propaganda and other politically motivated activities that take away from the RSPCA's core mission.
The RSPCA is still accepting donations from the community and state government that are given on the basis that they will be spent on caring for orphaned domestic pets and not political lobbying.
206. Public Apology needed from David Starkey and the BBC
David Starkey and the BBC should be made to give a public apology for the unacceptable comments made on the BBC's Newsnight.
Unacceptable comments made:
''The whites have become black''
"This language which is wholly false, which is this Jamaican patois that’s been intruded in England, and this is why so many of us have this sense of literally a foreign country."
"Listen to David Lammy, an archetypical successful black man, if you turned the screen off so you were listening to him on radio you’d think he was white."

207. Recycle Cape Town
Dinner time! On this winter’s eve you decide to make for yourself tomato soup. You start with two cans of tomato base, followed by a container of baby tomatoes, and finish it with a container of cream. As an environmentally conscious person you plan to recycle the two metal cans containing your base, the plastic container housing the tomatoes, and the small plastic container holding your cream. You separate these from your true waste and put them in a small bag destined for the recycling plant.
When it comes time for you to take out the trash you realize you have no idea where to dispose of your recycling collection. It’s easy enough to dispose of your true waste as every street has an abundance of bins destined for disposal at the nearest land fill. So where to put the recycling?
Still having a heart for the environment, you hold on to your small recycling bag. As bowls of tomato soup go by, your recycling bag grows bigger. After enough time this recycling bag has turned into an obtrusive structure in your home.
You realize that in the year 2009/2010 the city of Cape Town produced 1.6 million tons of waste! You’ve read on the City Of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Department’s website that of the six plots of land surrounding the city for land fill, only three are left and they are “quickly filling up.” You don’t want to contribute unnecessarily to the mountains off trash surrounding your beloved city!
Before too long you discover that there are actually twenty drop off sites for your recycling, placed not so strategically throughout the city. After driving to one of these spots you realize that recycling in the city of Cape Town is actually a not-so-efficient way of disposing of your waste. Even further, you realize that none of these drop-off sites are funded by the city’s government. In fact, all recycling drop off points in the city of Cape Town are privately funded. This simple fact is a testament to the heart of the people in this city.
That the city’s waste department can’t afford proper recycling provisions is a fallacy. More of our tax dollars go to funding “company holidays” and lavish private “conferences” than to bettering the life of those in the community. Is it not a simple enough suggestion to propose that everywhere there is a trash bin in the city destined for the land fill, right next to it sits one destined for the recycling plant?
It’s time we demand that our government take more responsibility for recycling in Cape Town. With the government’s funds behind it, recycling can become a simple, everyday activity in our lives.
Recycling is actually an inexpensive option to the statistics of our waste tonnage that will benefit the city by creating jobs and minimizing our waste, and the world at large, by preventing the need to extract resources from our planet only to bury them shortly thereafter in a landfill.
208. Create a Community Health Centre for Markham and Richmond Hill
The diverse communities of Markham and Richmond Hill urgently need access to the integrated model of community-based health care offered by Ontario's Community Health Centres (CHCs).
CHCs are the only primary health care services in Ontario that bring together family physicians, nurses and other health professionals under a single roof to provide team-based care, combined with a wide range of other health promotion and community development services. This comprehensive approach is exactly what is required in Markham and Richmond Hill where there are so many different populations with complex needs -- especially the thousands of newcomers to Canada whose health is often at risk because of factors beyond their control.
Inter-professional health teams providing services from a new Community Health Centre based in Markham would respond to the individual health issues faced by members of these communities. The CHC would also create programs and services that address the wider range of non-medical factors -- the "social determinants of health" -- that are negatively impacting community wellbeing. All of these services would be culturally-appropriate and carefully tailored to respond to the diverse needs of the many different communities living in Markham and Richmond Hill. Other benefits of the new Community Health Centre will include:
* Increasing access to primary health care for those who do not currently have a primary care provider;
* Empowering patients to take charge of their own health through health education, health promotion and disease prevention programs;
* Reducing visits to local hospital Emergency Rooms and reducing costly and avoidable hospital admissions by providing timely access to preventive health care;
In other parts of the GTA, residents are already benefiting from Community Health Centres that deliver integrated and seamless health and social services to a wide range of populations with complex needs. People living in Markham and Richmond Hill, with similar complex needs, deserve access to the same integrated, high-quality services.

210. Diablo 3 Offline Single Player Petition
Blizzard stated in a recent interview that Diablo 3 will require a constant internet connection to play. There isn't any way to play offline. This hurts those without an internet connection, those with slower, unreliable connections, and those that live in rural areas and have dial up as the only means of internet connectivity.
However, Blizzard has been known to listen to its fans/customers in the past, and it is this reason that we bring this petition, not to bully or demand, but to persuade and bring to light the number of those the feel strongly about the exclusion of an offline single player mode.
