1. Free Aleksei Gaskarov, Russian Opposition Activist
APRIL 28, 2013 -- Russian opposition activist Alexei Gaskarov has been detained by police in Moscow for his alleged role in the May 6 riots on Bolotnaya Square in the Russian capital, Russia’s Investigative Committee said on Sunday.
Gaskarov, a member of the opposition’s coordinating council, is accused of having led a group of active participants in the mass unrest on Bolotnaya Square, according to the investigators.
"During a scuffle on Bolotnaya Square, Gaskarov himself used violence against a policeman, disturbing his work to detain persons with aggressive behavior," the Investigative Committee said.
Investigators have videos and witnesses' testimony supporting the accusations, the committee said adding that the eyewitnesses have recognized Gaskarov as an offender.
Over 650 people were detained at a May 6, 2012 rally on Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s inauguration to a controversial third presidential term as police clashed with protesters.
Most were soon released, but a case soon followed into what the investigators called mass riots. The probe is ongoing. The riot allegations are hotly disputed by the opposition, which blames the police for provoking the clashes and claims the case is political.
The ‘March of Millions’ opposition protests in Moscow on May 6 2012 turned into a bloody standoff between demonstrators and riot police. Countless witnesses reported police brutality, as well as plain-clothes agents provocateurs, as being the main culprits in the physical scuffling.
Amnesty International and other human rights organizations have noted with alarm what they regard as a systematic clampdown on Russia's civil society, beginning with restrictions on the right of assembly introduced in June 2012.
Tanya Lokshina of Human Rights Watch notes: "The crackdown on civil society that we are witnessing in Russia today is absolutely unprecedented. It started in full swing after the return of Vladimir Putin to the Kremlin."
Gaskarov is scheduled for his first appearance before a judge on Monday, April 29. The pending trials of several other activists who took part in last May's opposition rally on Bolotnaya Square are looming. Like the recent trial of Pussy Riot members and the currently ongoing trial of opposition leader Aleksei Navalny, these trials are widely understood to be nothing more than politcally-motivated show trials.
UPDATE: On April, 29 The Basmanny court of Moscow agreed to the recommendation of the investigation requesting that Alexei Gaskarov be placed into custody as a pretrial restraining measure. Alexei is charged with crimes under part 2 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code (participation in mass riots) and part 1 of article 318 (use of violence against representatives of the authority). As a result of the court's decision, he is to remain detained for a minimum of two months up to June 28.

Information is available in several languages, see the flags on the right-hand side to choose.
2. Do Not Give The ALP Opposition Status After The 2013 Federal Election
When a party fails to reach the required number of seats in an election they don't automatically get funding as an opposition, they get the same pay rates as any other MP or senator. The Prime Minister has the power to, and normally does give them opposition status.
The purpose of this petition is to let the next Australian Prime Minister know we do not want that to happen.
3. Opposition to alterations of COMMUNITY CENTRE 78 PRINGLE STREET BLACKBURN

4. Say No to the Enbridge Pipeline!
The proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline will pass through many special places of Alberta and British Columbia in order to bring unrefined oil to the coast for shipping to the United States and Asia.
One of these many special places is the Spirit Bear Rainforest, a home to the seldom seen Spirit Bear and an abundance of other amazing fauna and flora.
The inevitable oil leaks/spills along both the pipeline and the shipping routes, as well as the construction process, will destroy the balance of this precious eco-system.
Trees will be cut down, habitat will be lost and many birds and animals will die..... all in the name of gaining income from a limited resource. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCRBJz3xwXE

4. Open boarders for free trade. Eliminate customs and import taxes.

19. Initiate "cultural change" program to motivate citizens to their full potential.
20. Support after school programs such as sports, music, art, etc.
6. Petition to the EDA Leadership
The EDA leadership has appointed a preparatory committee for the "National Conference for Democratic Change" that has raised the eyebrows of most of the stakeholders that were hoping to see an all inclusive and representative of the diversity of the Opposition camp.
It also set a July 2010 date for this conference without going through the process of public debates and publicity campaigns. We feel that EDA's decision is causing a big uproar and disagreement within the Opposition camp, and if these minor problems are not fixed now, it might have a dire consequence on unity of the opposition.
7. Opposition to Genesis/Acre Lane - proposed development
We, the local community, would wish that any further developments on Acre Lane (in particular the proposed development of the existing Fulham Timber Site - Acre Lane 176-184) would heed the views of residents and instead of seeking to cram more social/affordable housing into this area, develop the area so as to provide additional amenities and services to the local community.
We have already succeeded in stopping BYS building yet more (and unused) storage facilities and seek to stop Genesis from building housing when there is already a surplus of vacant accommodation in the area and a lack of decent facilities/amenities for the exisiting local community (ie shops, green spaces, community spaces, schools).
For info on the Genesis plans please visit: http://www.ghg.org.uk/Building+new+homes/Acre+Lane+consultation/
8. Protect and Enhance the historic La Vase Portage
North Bay City Council is on the brink of ignoring recommendations from City Planning staff, the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority and Ministry of Culture for a minimum 120 metre quarrying buffer and to proceed with only a 60 metre buffer to advance aggregate extraction in the area.
9. No to Westcroft Football Pitches at Parkland on Cranborne Avenue
Overview:
The Parkland on Cranborne Avenue, Westcroft has recently been turned into 4 Junior Football Pitches for the season 2008/09 with the first set of games taking place on 11 October 2008. This petition has been set up in order to gain support from Westcroft Residents to oppose the change in scope of our Playing Field to Football Pitches.
History:
Milton Keynes Council have told us that this land was identified as a sports field in the original development plan for Westcroft and has consistently been earmarked for use for football as well as cricket. The Council’s Playing Pitch Strategy of 2003 proposed a change from 2 senior football pitches to 4 nursery pitches. The Local Plan (adopted in 2005), which sets out how MK will be developed in the future, continued to indicate playing fields on this site.
Consultation with Residents:
The Council have informed us that the Playing Pitch Strategy and the Local Plan were widely consulted upon in 2003, although with whom they consulted when the majority of Westcroft was still fields they cannot confirm. The Council have undertaken no consultation with the new residents of Westcroft since the building of several hundred new homes and continue to push through the Football Pitch strategy even though they have strong opposition from the Residents.
Future Plans:
The site has only recently been handed over to the Leisure Facilities department within the Council. They have advised us that their intention is to build a Pavilion on the adjoining land to provide changing rooms for the players. As Junior Football does not require changing rooms, it therefore leads only to believe that the Council have plans to change the current 4 junior pitches into Senior Pitches at some stage.
Restriction of Enjoyment for the Residents:
The introduction of these pitches on the parkland off Cranborne Avenue has caused the residents of Westcroft to become prisoners in their own homes every Saturday morning. The field is completely filled with numerous games and spectators, none of which are actually residents of Westcroft. The Council informs us that parking should be limited to the car park and overflow to Morrissons, however, we have seen cars parking on Cranborne Avenue and on the grass verges already.
Dog Walkers – The Council have advised us that the expectation regarding responsible dog ownership is that the dog should be under control and if easily excited should remain on a lead. This is already and infringement of our ability to enjoy our neighbourhood.
Support our Petition:
We require as many signatures as possible to present to the Council in order for them to consider changing this land back to something the Residents can enjoy. There are various other open spaces which do not directly affect residents which can be used for Football Pitches.
Please support us in our quest to have these unsightly pitches removed and sign our petition.
Thank you.

11. Supporting a woman's rights to choose abortion
We wish to express our opposition to any lowering of the legal limit for abortion from 24 weeks, which would have a devastating impact on the small number of women who need later abortion.
These are often vulnerable women facing unusual and difficult circumstances such as late diagnosis of pregnancy, rape or domestic abuse or NHS delays. Women need the right to choose on the most fundamental decisions over their own bodies. Forty years since the 1967 Abortion Act was enacted in Britain, an overwhelming majority of people, 83 percent, support a woman's right to choose.
There is a broad opposition to the restriction of the Act from parliamentarians across the political spectrum, from medical professional organisations- the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, from the Commons Science and Technology Committee and the Department of Health and from women's, trade union and student groups across the country.
12. Offener Brief an die National- und Ständeräte / Lettre ouverte aux membres de l'Assemblée fédér
Betrifft: (Nicht-)Wiederwahl Bundesrat Christoph Blochers
13. Support Musharraf: Emergency was required
People are encouraged to read through and sign as this is NOT a petition in favor of outright military rule, but one that supports the measures taken by Musharraf to eradicate corruption and place Pakistan on the right path to democracy. As Pakistanis, we must appreciate a man who has confronted corruption and created a system under which the voice of the people can be heard.
Pervez Musharraf has been the centre of a lot of criticism lately, and this petition is an attempt to show support for his vision and rule in Pakistan. We understand some actions by the current government in Pakistan are drastic and some may argue against them, but it is up to us to realize the ground realities and act responsibly in deciding who to support. Opposition parties are exploiting the mass public by using democracy as an excuse to regain power and destabilize a government that has achieved a lot in the last eight years. Religion is also being used by some in the media to incite the public, which has gone about its daily routine with no interest to come out on the streets. Objectivity amongst reporters on international broadcasts of Pakistani news is rare. This is an attempt to show that there is a large movement that supports the President. Outlined below are highlights of Musharraf’s achievements, there is a section on reasons for imposition of emergency rule as well.
POSITION ON OPPOSITION PARTIES
Nawaz Sharif’s incompetent government and Benazir’s corruption (wife of Mr. Zardari who is popularly known in Pakistan as 'Mr. 10%') left Pakistan in a dismal state. Thus prior to Musharraf’s debut on the stage of Pakistani politics in 1999,
* The country was almost bankrupt;
* Pakistan was on the verge of being declared a “failed” and “terrorist” nation;
* It was listed as being the second most corrupt nation in the world (the first being Nigeria)
* During the time of Benazir and Sharif, the KSE 100 index was less than 1300. Now it is over 12000.
* Atrocities such as judicial killings of opponents took place shamelessly throughout Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, for which Benazir and Sharif were both primarily responsible.
MUSHARAF’S ACHIEVEMENTS
Under Musharraf’s regime since 1999, Pakistan has experienced tremendous growth and seen record improvement in its overall condition.
* From being #2 on the list of corrupt nations, Pakistan is now #138 – a remarkable improvement.
* Compared to being nearly bankrupt less than a decade ago, Pakistan now has reserves of close to $16 billion, and is still growing.
* Corruption has been virtually eliminated from the upper levels and significantly reduced in the lower levels.
* Musharraf actively confronted terrorism in Pakistan and employed several schemes to eradicate it from our country.
* Large-scale development is taking place all over Pakistan, with a significant amount of construction going on in Karachi and areas of Baluchistan. Previously, these areas were largely neglected, with Baluchistan left to the mercy of warlords for much of the history of Pakistan.
* Tax recovery is at an all time high.
* Pakistan’s media has flourished with Musharraf’s permittance and encouragement.
* Devolution of power- Musharraf brought the Nazim System and gave powers to the local representatives at the lowest level.
* Women's representation used to be 3.2%. Musharraf made a landmark decision and appointed 33% seats to be reserved for women in all three tiers of the local government and 17% in the national and provincial legislatures. (This also resulted in Pakistan being recognized as the country with the greatest progress in women’s representation within parliament in a comparison study of South Asian politics.)
* President Musharraf was awarded the White Ribbon Man of the Year Award 2006, in recognition of the tremendous support to the cause of women’s rights in Pakistan.
* Pakistan’s relations with India have also significantly improved. Previously, India refused to acknowledge the territory of Kashmir as a 'dispute'. As a result of Musharraf's diplomacy, Kashmir is today acknowledged as a disputed territory and both sides are working towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
These are remarkable achievements in an 8 year timeframe. This is not to say that things are perfect; much work still needs to be done. But, Pakistan, under Musharraf, has been heading towards the right direction and this momentum should continue. He has addressed the root cause of problems in the country thus building a foundation for democracy to prosper. The measures taken under this regime are an attempt to reform Pakistani society with a high emphasis on education. One cannot educate a nation overnight; it takes time and honest commitment. We cannot let corrupt politicians ruin 8 years of hard work.
14. Chilkur Balaji Temple Protection Movement
February 27, 2006
Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Ex Chief Minister of State & Leader of Opposition Party.
Respected Sir,
Chilkur Balaji Temple situated in Osmansagar (Chilkur village), Hyd is the only Temple in the World that boasts of not having a 'Hundi' and does not discriminate among any devotees based on their social status.
Devotees are NOT EXPECTED to make any MONETARY OFFERINGS neither are they accepted. The temple run by the Head Priest, Sri Soundara Rajan is being maintained well & the Lord is answering devotees prayers in bountiful.
The taking over of the Temple by the Endowments Department WILL introduce the 'Hundi' system and other special darshans for the VIP's. The common man who has been able to have darshan of the Lord JUST LIKE ANY OTHER VIP will be DENIED this privilege. Devotees will have to BUY tickets to have darshan of the Lord and more than anything else, it will lead to the COMMERCIALISATION of the Temple.
As you are aware that there is currently an ongoing agitation regarding the taking over of the temple by the Endowments Department; As the Ex Chief Minister of the State and a strong Leader of the Opposition Party, I expect COMPLETE SUPPORT from YOU towards the Temple Protection Movement.
We HOPE you will HELP US in seeing Chilkur Balaji Temple being taken care of by the same Archaka family, run on the SAME PRINCIPLES.
This is POSSIBLE ONLY WHEN NOT engulfed by the Endowments.
Thanks for your support.
Snigdha Reddy.
15. Doing he RIGHT thing for our CHILDREN
This is a supplementary petition due to the fact that our hearing officer Ed Lockwood, has made his ruling in opposition of the annexation.
Please help us by signing this petition to show the State board of Education that it needs to go to a vote.
Our kids' future depends on it.
16. Ban the Bloc
On September 11, 1993, the Bloc Québécois federal political party, based on the need to defend the French language and promote Quebec culture, became officially registered with Elections Canada.
With this mandate in mind, in the October 1993 federal election, the Bloc formed the Official Opposition in the House of Commons, with Mr. Bouchard as their leader. In Canada, an opposition party is a political party with members elected to the House of Commons or legislative assembly that is neither the government party nor one of a coalition of parties forming the government.
The role of an opposition party is to oppose the government by criticizing government policies, suggesting alternatives and keeping the public informed about issues relating to government administration.
The Bloc Québécois has no other thought other than what is of benefit to Québec, and has no interest in being of benefit to the rest of Canada. They constantly strive and push for separation from Canada, seeking an autonomous and sovereign relationship with Canada.
The existence of the Bloc in the House of Commons is unconstitutional as this party does not run candidates outside of Québec. Should the Bloc ever become the Official Opposition Party again, how could they honestly and justly defend the interests of her Majesty and the people of Canada if their only reason for being is for the welfare of Québec?
18. Opposition to the Ohio Graduation Test
The creation of the OGT as a mandatory reuqirement for the graduation in the state of Ohio has aroused great concern in teachers, parents, and thousands of students. The implementation of this test has been substandard; the scores of 2004's OGT clearly represent the distorted expectations of the test's creators.
The Ohio Department of Education has assured educators that the test requirements will be revised. However, this leaves many still wondering if these revisions will be enough to ensure an appropriately challenging test.
Unfortunately for the graduatiing class of 2007, they will become the guinea pigs of the "improved OGT."
19. CityRail Trains Never on time
NSW Transport Minister Michael Costa has become the "Goldilocks" of state parliament, with conditions either too hot or too wet for Sydney's trains to run on time, the state opposition said.
Releasing coalition figures, opposition transport spokesman Mike Gallacher said that just under one million people ran late on the city's rail system this week, as 1,100 trains ran four minutes or more behind schedule.
Of the 925,000 people in Sydney the opposition estimated ran late, more than 400,000 people were delayed by 10 minutes or more, Mr Gallacher said.
"This week, without a doubt, goes down as the worst week in recent history for the NSW public transport system," he told reporters in parliament.
"On October 1, CityRail blamed the weather ... they said the wet weather was responsible a 10 per cent (of trains running on time) result.
"On October 13, the hottest day recorded, once again they blamed the weather.
Blame Who? We just want our trains to run on time. I'm sure our tax dollars can give us this.
