1. Archers Lane sidewalk addition
On the evening of February 5, 2010, 15 year old Mairi-Caite Miller was struck by a car and tragically lost her life while walking along the side of the road on Archers Lane in Irmo. Our entire community is shaken and grieving this senseless tragedy. Please join us in prayer for the family of Mairi, her friends and all that have been affected by this great loss.
As five year residents of Archers Court, we have spoken to many, many residents who have had to quickly swerve while driving through the neighborhood to avoid a jogger, a walker, someone on a bike, or group of children who have no choice but to travel on a busy road with absolutely no sidewalks. Archers Lane is a busy road- filled with many curves, trees and other obstructions to vision for all drivers.
To make matters worse, non-residents use this road as a shortcut to and from Harbison - unfamiliar with the terrain and unfortunately, they are often speeding.
The installation of sidewalks will provide a safe way to travel the neighborhood. This must be done before another tragedy happens. For our residents, for our children and for Mairi-Caite.
2. Celtic fans Petition to the SFA
Last season a new initative was started by the SFA in relation to introducing video evidence. If Gordon Smith and the SFA are serious in wanting to clean up the game in relation to simulation or career threatening challenges, as they have indeed indicated. Then they need to be consistent in their actions.
The Celtic supporters who have signed this petition are behind the SFA's initiative and call for Scottish Football’s governing body to act with clarity and consistently in order to keep the integrity of our game intact.
3. Exemption for Sunrise Propane explosion victims
On August 10, 2008, a propane explosion occurred at Sunrise Propane, 54 Murray Rd, North York, Ontario, forcing 12,000 residents from their homes.
Due to extensive damage caused by the explosion, not all residents have returned home as they have to rebuild.
Residents who have elected to tear down more than 50% of their existing walls, have learned that their house rebuilding is being treated as "new construction".
This Bylaw is according to Municipal Code, Chapter 851, Water Supply and Chapter 681, Sewer Service. Residents will have to pay the City of Toronto approx $11,000 for upgrades on city property, which does not include the additional expense required to upgrade the pipes on their own property.
Glenn De Baeremaeker, Chair of Public Works & Infrastructure, denied all requests for the issue to be added as an agenda item. He stated in a letter, “I fully understand and sympathize with the situation your constituent is faced with as he rebuilds his home following last summer’s Sunrise Propane blast, there does not appear to be sufficient merit to warrant a request of City Council to exempt this property from the relevant provisions of the Municipal Code”
Several written requests have been submitted to the Mayor's office for assistance. Karen Duffy responsed from the Office of the Mayor, stating that "The Mayor's Office is satisfied that the city is responding to your request. The decision rests with the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. There will be no meeting scheduled."
A final attempt was made to add the issue to the agenda on the day of the meeting, June 3rd, and Glenn De Baremeaker made a ruling that the request would not be put to a vote and would not be heard by the committee.
Karen Duffy stated the Mayor was powerless to help, and once again said no meeting would be scheduled.
4. Improving Conditions in Puppy Mills
In puppy mills dogs are crammed into small cages where they cannot stand up and do not receive the needed exercise. The dogs sleep in there own urine and contract illnesses from the hazardous cages. The cages are stacked on top of each other. The dogs do not receive proper veterinary care and their injuries cause deformities and sometimes death. There immune systems and bones are weak and this makes it easier for them to get sick. They are neglected and the only time the miller visits is to take away puppies, kill dogs that cannot produce anymore, or throw away dead animals. Female dogs produce litter after littler until they are not able to anymore. They care for their young until the miller comes and takes the puppies away. These are horrible conditions that are completely inhumane.
5. Clayton Miller Petition For Justice
Clayton Miller was found dead on May 6, 1990. He disappeared during a police raid at a secluded outdoor party area called "the nest" in New Waterford, NS on the night of May 4, 1990.
Several people traveled the area of the nest on May 5, 1990 (including the spot on which Clayton's body was discovered on May 6, 1990). Clayton's body was not there. The New Waterford, NS Police deny having the boy in custody from May 4, 1990 to May 6, 1990.
Police photos of the boy's body, documented evidence and years of investigation by the family of Clayton Miller, clearly show the murder of this boy and cover-up afterwards.

6. How to Save College Athletics
March 22, 2006
In order to try and change the growing controversy in the field of NCAA collegiate athletics, I, Khalil Graham, have started this petition in order to gain acceptance of the Douglas Looney reform policy.
There has been a growing controversy on the situation many current and former college athletes have been put under.
College athletes are not allowed to be paid in a system that makes millions off of them each year.
At the same time, amateurism is a genuine piece of Americana that needs to be protected at all costs.
7. Current East Cluster (Partial) Boundry Concerns
The Boundry Committee and the School Board at large are considering moving Mackenzie Meadows/Cobblestone Trail neighborhood students from Stinson Elementry to Miller Elementary.
8. America Online - Reinstate those who have lost bulk mailing list status
December 2005
This petition is now closed. Thanks to all who signed.
.......................................................
November 2003
Dear Mr. Miller:
We, the undersigned, hereby demand AOL reinstate those who have lost bulk mailing list status due to inconspicuous spam controls implanted on AOL 8.0 and 8.0 plus, without the users' knowledge, and further demand spam folders be located where they can readily be seen, and AOL immediately remove these bogus tos violations from our account records. Spam folders did not show up in our normal mail, it was not until one chose another method (such as AOL anywhere) of retrieving mail, that the spam folder was visible.
Most lists and members knew nothing of this, therefore we inadvertently reported each other as sending spam. (Aol was controlling what was and was not spam, without our knowledge, as it seems we've lost the right to view our own mail and make that decision for ourselves).
Many innocent people lost bulk mailing privileges for a 6 month period due to AOL's hasty decision, and we should not be penalized for AOL's mistakes. We have done nothing wrong and have followed tos rules. It is not a tos violation to send mail to those who have requested it be sent.
9. Hugh Miller book for series 3 of Ballykissangel!
This petition is for those people who agree that Hugh Miller should be commissioned to write a third book for Ballykissangel, based on the third series of the drama. A book for this series would introduce a whole new dimension on the many relationships which changed their dynamic in the duration of the series. It would also highlight the innermost feelings of the characters, which don't often translate onto the television screen in the same way that they do in book format.
10. Help End Female Exploitation
As part of a Women's Studies Class, I had to create a 'Liberating Action Project' - something pro-woman and liberating to educate the community. I chose to create a petition against Miller Brewing Company's "Catfight" commercial because I find it exploitative and degrading to women.
Miller Brewing Company has recently run a television commercial called, "Catfight" which features two, stereotypically beautiful women arguing the classic Miller Lite debate: "tastes great" vs. "less filling." In the commercial, the two women are arguing their sides and resultantly engage in a fight. The fight begins with one of the women throwing the other into a swimming pool where they rip each other's clothes off and wrestle around, and eventually ends up with the women in a trough of wet concrete. In some of the late night airings, one of the women actually ends the commercial by saying to the other, "Let's make out."
Commercials such as "Catfight" promote sexist thinking in our society. Those signing the petition disagree with the exploitation of female sexuality. Since it has been rumored that a similar series of commercials is planned, the names below are meant to urge Miller Brewing Company to rethink future advertisements such as "Catfight."
11. Get Rid Of Dennis Miller On Monday Night Football
Lets Show ABC That Dennis Miller Is Useless On Monday Night Football. His Comments Are Stupid and He Is Not Needed In The Booth.
