31. Sikh boy’s refusal to cut hair costs him his job
This petition is for the support of Sikh guy Harshdeep Singh Anand from Shimla ( India ) who has lost his job in Abu Dhabi in refusal to cut his hairs ( a unique Sikh identity ). No such condition had been mentioned in his appointment letter and it was known that he was a Sikh with long hair as he was selected for the job after an interview.
32. STOP Offensive MUSIC in public in the UAE
Music that contains vulgar language and sexually explicit lyrics is continually being played at most of the malls and stores in the UAE.
The stores are not allowed to offend customers and desensitize our children by playing this OFFENSIVE music. But they are doing it anyway, and no one is stopping them.
Stores are playing music with the words: B****, mother F*****, slap my a**, ect. This is offensive and should not be permitted by the management of the stores.
33. Support Ashraf
Ashraf residents are protected persons who signed an agreement with the US government according to which the US assumed their protection.
However, the agreement was violated by transferring this responsibility to the Iraqi government. This initiated a humanitarian catastrophe against the residents.

Hijacking of German MV "Hansa Stavanger" by pirates off the Somalian coast on 4th of April, 2009 without any effort of Leonhardt & Blumberg to help the crew members who are being kept hostage.
35. International Announcement for a ONE-DAY HUNGER STRIKE for Iran
Iranian people are planing a huge demonstration on 9th of July this year. The recent events have shown that Iranian government will apply huge violence to stop any kind of protest action in the public.
We hope by informing the world public and media, we might inspire Islamic Republic of Iran not to do so and give the protesters their right being in the streets without police suppressions.
36. The Blood Of Our Sisters And Brothers Was Not Spilt In Vain, Our Hope For Change Must Not End!
THE BLOOD OF OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS WAS NOT SPILT IN VAIN, OUR HOPE FOR CHANGE MUST NOT END !!
37. A Call on European Union to Pressure Iran to Stop the Violence and Killing of The People
Since the June 12th presidential election in Iran hundreds of people have been brutally beaten and murdered for their opposition to the result.
Government forces have also been using intimidation tactics on the streets, as well as invading people's homes in order to silence their voices.
The world can not afford to let the voices of millions of Iranian protesters go unheard. The European Union must take action to stop the human rights violations in Iran.
38. Campaign To Ban Taser Use By Israeli Police
The Israeli police has just acquired TASERS.
There has been NO public debate about the advisability of using these weapons & the restrictions that need be put on their use.
From reports of their use abroad, it is clear that their use in civil disturbances or regular policing is invariably a use of disproportionate force, and mostly to seek compliance even when no real danger to the police-officer exists.
It is feared that such weapons- as they are billed as "less lethal" or inaccurately as "non-lethal" thereby encourage their inappropriate & increased use, where firearms would never have been contemplated. Trained police have come to realise the care needed re firearms use- yet the TASER is commonly used where no one would contemplate a firearm- usually merely to coerce compliance in ordinary civil related circumstances, where brutal & dangerous weapons of this kind should not be needed.
It is contended that only an incompetent police force would be interested in a weapon of this kind without stringent restrictions on its use.
We believe that there may be a place for such a weapon against an armed terrorist, or armed felon- BUT TO USE IT AS A WAY TO MAKE ARRESTS EASIER OR TO CONTROL PEOPLE OR MAKE THEM COMPLY threatens our civil rights. We live in a freedom-loving democratic society- and TASER use- as shown from so many examples- threatens the public & undermines law-abiding people's sense of freedom.
A horrific weapon- should not be used in regular civil situations just to overcome a natural inability to follow, often unreasonable orders or a need for a policeman to "lord" over a person. In the Mid-East context- with the mentality of people as it is - THIS IS A MAJOR STEP TO MAKING THE PUBLIC AREA UNNECESSARILY MORE VIOLENT.
39. Condemn Violence against Iranian Students
The 2009 Iranian presidential election was held on June 12th, 2009. Reports indicate a large scale election fraud in favor of the incumbent president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Iranian people have come to streets in large numbers to protest the results.
Government militia forces are using extreme force to suppress the crowd. Among the most outspoken and most severely hit groups are university students all around Iran that are under attack and need your help.
40. A letter to President Obama from Iranians
There are new approaches between Iran and USA after 30 years. Iranian government in the latest presidency election rigged the votes and Mr Ahmadinejad came out with fiction percentage of 62.
We all ask Mr Obama not to recognize Mr Ahmadinejad as Iranian president as it seems he got elected like a coup.
US supported Iranian regime in 50s to turn down by a coup. We strongly ask United States not to recognize Mr Ahmadinejad as Iranian President. That would mean that US supported another coup against the democracy in Iran.
41. Asylum for Roodabeh and Ali, two Iranian homosexuals, refugees in Turkey
We would point out that the right of asylum, as laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (art. 14) and finalized by the Geneva Convention, is one of the fundamental rights of human beings, and is recognised by civil countries to those fleeing from violence and persecution.
Turkey signed the Geneva Convention and has saved many human lives by acknowledging their status as refugees and offering them humanitarian protection. However, Turkey’s present policies where the rights of refugees and asylum seekers are concerned, have recently become more restrictive.
42. Australian Jews support Obama's MidEast Statement
The Australian Jewish Democratic Society together with other Jewish Australians who care greatly for both the future of Israel and the legitimate national aspirations of Palestinians, strongly endorse the views recently expressed by the US President in Cairo.
His words represent a sea change in approach to a conflict that has festered for so long that many of us have despaired of the possibility of finding a path to a resolution. His words articulate both the main elements of the conflict as understood by the Australian Jewish Democratic Society and a way forward to hope:

45. The British Government to Play a More Active Role in the Reunification of Cyprus
The year 2008 marks forty-eight years since the birth of the Republic of Cyprus. For thirty-four of those years, the island and its people have been divided as a result of Turkey's invasion in 1974. The military aggression against Cyprus continues unabated to this date in the form of military occupation, forcible division, and violation of human rights, massive colonization, cultural destruction, property usurpation and ethnic segregation.
A member state of the United Nations and the European Union today, Cyprus continues to be victim of unabashed international aggression by Turkey, a member of the UN and aspiring member of the EU. This is an insult to international legal order and a constant threat to regional stability.
The horrifying and blood-curdling ramifications of this attack are constantly down-played by the UK and US governments, and ridiculed and mocked by Turkey and Turkish nationals.
A report by the European Commission of Human Rights of the Council of Europe, found Turkey guilty of gross violations of human rights in Cyprus throughout the invasion and subsequent occupation.
1. 37 percent of the Republic of Cyprus currently under occupation.
2. 200,000 Greek Cypriots – approximately on quarter of the total population were forcibly expelled from the occupied northern territories of the island where they constituted approximately 70 percent of the population. They are still prevented the right to return and reclaim their homes and properties. Turkish Cypriots who lived in the free areas were moved by the Turkish Cypriot leadership to the occupied area.
3. 1,474 missing persons, including hundreds of civilians are still missing. Turkey refuses to co-operate in ascertaining their fate, despite photographic evidence showing many missing persons captured by the Turkish military.
4. Approximately 500 Greek and Maronite Cypriots enclaved in their villages in the occupied area are still living under oppressive conditions under deprivation and intimidation.
5. At the end of 1974 20,000 enclaved people remained in the occupied area. Following intimidation and harrassment they were forced to abandon their homes by the illegal regime, becoming refugees.
6. 43,000 Turkish occupation soldiers, equipped with modern weaponry, supported by the Turkish air force and navy are illegally stationed in the occupied area.
7. 162,000 colonists from Turkey have been imported illegally to colonise the occupied area in order to alter the demographic structure of the island.
8. 58,000 Turkish Cypriots have emigrated from the occupied area since the Turkish invasion according to Turkish Cypriots sources because of the social, moral and economic decline prevalent there.
Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Markos Kyprianou had a two day visit to London this week, during which time he engaged in much discussion with David Milliband and Caroline Flint. The outcome of these talks were, as usual, vague and apparently ineffectual.

48. Repeal the new Shiite law in Afghanistan
A new Shiite personal status law has been passed in Afghanistan’s parliament house and signed by the president Karzai in March 2009.
This law contravenes the Afghan’s own constitution on gender equality and also many international treaties signed by the Afghan government, including those specifically related to women's rights. Under this law a woman needs her husband’s permission to leave the house and marital rape is legalized.
49. South Australian Parliament should apologize to the Turkish Community
Protest against the South Australian Parliament’s House of Assembly for passing a defamatory motion.
South Australian Parliament’s House of Assembly passed a motion on April 30, 2009 recognizing the so-called “genocide by the Ottoman State between 1915-1923 of Armenians, Hellenes, Syrian and other minorities in Asia Minor” is one of the greatest crimes against humanity.
This defamatory resolution also calls on the Australian Federal Parliament officially to condemn the so-called genocide.
50. Offer Journalist Roxana Saberi a Fair Trial
Roxana Saberi has been convicted by a court in Tehran, Iran. Many international news organisations have been covering and bringing awareness to her severe sentence. She has worked for high news distributors including the BBC.
Roxana was first charged with buying a bottle of wine in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Now the Iranian judiciary has gone full length in accusing her of espionage with no evidence that has been made public even though the trial has commenced.
The judiciary has now ordered what's been termed a "quick and fair" appeal with President Ahmadinejad’s approval. Though, he has urged that Roxana should be allowed to offer a full defence during her appeal.

54. ASC - A movement for education amongst ASC is needed
NOTE: This list is purely to measure the amount of interest in the project described below.
As our group is small, and playing a minor roll in the global arena, it is important that we seek to be on cutting edge positions that will play a mayor rôle in the future. Therefore Assyrians/Syriacs/Chaldeans (from now on ASC), as well as other Christian groups from the Middle East, will have to be a well educated group. We need to strengthen our positions within the financial world, politics, scientific research, international law related issues and so on. Therefore promoting higher education, including graduate school, is of utter importance.
If the interest is high enough, a web forum will be created so that we can start planning, organizing and take the measures required to reach our goal.
In a world where many seem to aim for a quick way to earn money, especially amongst our people, the path to the goal will be long and troublesome. Therefore we must start making our children aware of the importance of education.
Remember, if we do not take any action, then do not expect any results. The faith is in our hands and it is time we stop being defensive and start doing something! It is time we pay back to our parents, and grandparents, for giving us the opportunities of education!
It is time to realize there is no such thing as a free lunch.
I can not do this by myself. But together we can!
Ps. Please provide an accurate email address as, if the project gets launched, you will receive a notification via email. The email address will not be revealed so no bot will be able to spam you. However, we will also update the information on this page. Hopefully enough people will have signed by the end of June 2009.

56. Stop the sale of Plastic Bags within University Premises
Earth Day -- April 22 -- each year marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
There are too many plastic bags being thrown away when they are only used once.
Besides, plastic bags cannot be broken down easily and contributes to global warming.
We should ban the use of plastic bags and start appreciating reusable bags! Since Universities are the trend setters for setting a good example, let's contribute somehow by appereciating the ban of plastic bags from April in Islamabad, the federal captial of Pakistan.

57. Protect Merchant Mariners from Piracy
An Open Letter to Governments, International Organizations, and the Maritime Industry
The attack on the M/V Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates has focused world attention both on the heroism of Captain Richard Phillips and his crew and on the vital contributions that the world’s merchant mariners make to global development and prosperity. The 1.2 million merchant mariners operating 100,000 merchant vessels deliver more than 90% of world trade to their markets and destinations.
Pirates threaten merchant mariners’ lives and liberties in Somalia and other parts of the world. In 2008 alone, at least 293 pirate attacks occurred world wide; 49 vessels were hijacked, 46 other vessels were fired upon, 889 seafarers were taken hostage, 32 seafarers suffered injuries, 11 seafarers were killed and 21 seafarers are missing and presumed dead. Since 2003 more than 1660 merchant mariners have been kidnapped or taken hostage, taking a severe toll on mariners and their families.
Piracy is an international crime against all humanity. Every nation may bring pirates to justice and all nations should cooperate in suppressing piracy. The community of nations and the maritime industry has risen to the challenge of attempting to eradicate the scourge of piracy. The International Maritime Organization has created guidelines and recommendations for governments and shipowners on preventing and suppressing piracy. The United Nations has adopted four Security Council Resolutions addressing piracy off Somalia. Naval forces from the European Union, NATO, United States, and several other countries now patrol piracy zones with coordinated efforts to protect threatened shipping lanes. The Maritime industry operates a piracy reporting center that provides real time alerts and guidance to merchant shipping on piracy.
While much needed work has been devoted to preventing and suppressing acts of piracy and bringing pirates to justice, piracy’s mariner victims deserve more attention. Little understanding of the long-term consequences of pirate attacks on seafarers and their families exists. Furthermore, few resources are devoted to caring for piracy victims. While some piracy victims receive counseling and aftercare, the effectiveness of the care is unknown, and no guidelines exist for shipowners on providing for seafarers victimized by piracy.
58. The Turkish legal system should accept the last will and testament
In Turkish law they apply the "Turkish law of inheritance " which over rides the last will and testament. This leaves non-Turkish people who own property in Turkey in a situation where their children or children from a previous relationship inherit a large proportion of the deceased estate.
This has caused many problems for foreigners in Turkey who have lost their partner and can take many years to sort out.
Many people have had a Turkish will drawn up thinking this will be adhered to after their death.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
59. Stop Puppy Mills In Jordan
The Humane Center for Animal Welfare in Jordan raided a puppy mill in the Jordan Valley. Workers at the mill were sickened by the treatment of the animals, and approached the Humane Center for Help. The breeder in charge of the farm is suing to get her "property" back, and there are no laws to stop her.
Please sign and show the Jordanian government that animal welfare is not just about animals, it's about humanity. Thank you.
60. Scholarships for Students Living in Conflict Zones
Students in conflict zones often face disrupted and halted education due to forces beyond their control. We believe everyone should have the right to education and freedom.
The United Nations Development Programme has estimated that 240 schools were destroyed in the recent attacks on Gaza. The Islamic University of Gaza suffered extensive damage to all its buildings and facilities.
There have been many precedents for universities, such as Goldsmith’s and Plymouth, to offer scholarships to students from conflict zones so they can study uninterrupted.
