This is a petition on legalizing Marijuana, weed, pot, ect. all the same. Any
way I know im not the only one who thinks weed does nothing to you
really except make you calm and relaxed. So why is it illegal? They think it is
going to kill us. Well its not marijuana has not killed anyone under the influence
of it but look at alcohol many people die at the use of that and it is still legal
with an age limit, so why not marijuana. It is not a gate-way-drug none of my
friends have ever used anything besides marijuana and many of them have
been smoking for 5 years so if its really that bad for you why are they still alive?
In many point of veiws if marijuana was legal then the crime rate would go
down. Look at what happened in the 60's yeah it was still illegal but alot of
people still smoked it and the crime rate was still low. It is our choice on what
enters our bodys.

The legalization of marijauna must be done. The legalization can benefit the economy especially in its' latest recession.

One in six people are incarcerated for marijauna related charges. There are at least two million people in jail today. That makes for about 333,333 people in jail for marijauna related charges for life.

There is something wrong there. When there are murderers who get out of jail instead of harmless marijauna users and sellers.(Learn more from Eric Schlosser) It costs anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 to keep one person incarcerated for one year.

Legalize marijauna for the economic health and use it for something more productive.

It has been used as oil, fuel and food. The plant's known uses goes back as far as 7000 B.C and it was legal as recently as when Ronald Reagan was a boy. The hemp plant was introduced to the United States in the early 1600's but did not reach public awareness as a recreational drug until the early 1900's. America's first marijuana law stated that every farmer was "ordered" to grow Indian hemp seed.There were several other "must grow" laws over the next 200 years (you could be jailed for not growing hemp during times of shortage in Virginia between 1763 and 1767), and during most of that time, hemp was legal tender (you could even pay your taxes with hemp.

So if this extremly versatile plant was so useful, then why did it become illegal? It all started in the 1900's, the western states developed significant tensions regarding the influx of Mexican-Americans. The revolution in Mexico in 1910 spilled over the border. Later in that decade, bad feelings developed between the small farmer and the large farms that used cheaper Mexican labor. Then, the depression came and increased tensions, as jobs and welfare resources became scarce. One of the "differences" seized upon during this time was the fact that many Mexicans smoked marijuana and had brought the plant with them. However, the first state law outlawing marijuana was not because of Mexicans using the drug. Oddly enough, it was because of Mormons using it. Mormons who traveled to Mexico in 1910 came back to Salt Lake City with marijuana. The church was not pleased and ruled against use of the drug. Since the state of Utah automatically enshrined church doctrine into law, the first state marijuana prohibition was established in 1915. The other states quickly followed suit.

When Montana outlawed marijuana in 1927, the Butte Montana Standard reported a legislator's comment: "When some beet field peon takes a few traces of this stuff... he thinks he has just been elected president of Mexico, so he starts out to execute all his political enemies." In Texas, a senator said on the floor of the Senate: "All Mexicans are crazy, and this stuff (marijuana) is what makes them crazy."

In the eastern states, the "problem" was attributed to a combination of Latin Americans and black jazz musicians. Marijuana became an indispensable part of the music scene, even entering the language of the black hits of the time. Again, racism was part of the charge against marijuana, as newspapers in 1934 editorialized: "Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men's shadows and look at a white woman twice." Another fear tactic used is that Mexicans, Blacks and other foreigners were snaring white children with marijuana. By the 1930s, the story had changed. Dr. A. E. Fossier wrote in the 1931 New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal: "Under the influence of hashish those fanatics would madly rush at their enemies, and ruthlessly massacre every one within their grasp." Within a very short time, marijuana started being linked to violent behavior.

Harry J. Anslinger recognized the Bureau of Narcotics as an amazing career opportunity-- a new government agency with the opportunity to define both the problem and the solution. He immediately realized that opiates and cocaine wouldn't be enough to help build his agency, so he latched on to marijuana and started to work on making it illegal at the federal level. Anslinger immediately drew upon the themes of racism and violence to draw national attention to the problem he wanted to create. He also promoted and frequently read from "Gore Files" -- wild reefer-madness-style exploitation tales of ax murderers on marijuana and sex and... Negroes. Here are some quotes that have been widely attributed to Anslinger and his Gore Files:

"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."

"...the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."

"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."

"You smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother." ......

With all this said, i think we can clearly see that marijuana was unlegalized solely because of racism. Canada followed suit with America within the same time period for the same reasons.

About 350,000 Americans suffer from end-stage renal disease, a kidney disorder so advanced that the organ ceases to function (Finkel).

These victims are in need of new organs in order to stay alive, but the problem is not enough kidneys are donated to provide adequate transplants for everyone.

Those placed on a wait list typically have to spend years before they even have the chance of receiving their new kidney. Most victims die while waiting; in fact, In the year 2000 alone, 2,583 Americans died while waiting for a kidney transplant (Goyal, Mehta, Schneiderman, and Sehgal). The number of deaths worldwide is around 50,000.

However, there is a solution to this large problem: legalize the sale of human kidneys in the United States. Legalization and the promise of monetary profit to donors would provide the incentive needed to convince more people to donate their organs.

Thousands of lives would be saved through this process, and America as a world leader would set the stage for more countries to legalize the sale of kidneys. Regulation is a must, of course, in order to allow complete fairness in monetary compensation. With this process in place, new hope and new life can be given to those needing this valuable organ.

"A number of states classified ferrets as wild animals and banned them as pets before they become popular as companion animals in the United States. As ferrets grew in popularity, these bans were overturned in quick succession. At this point, California and Hawaii remain the only two states to prohibit ferrets. There has been no effort to legalize them in Hawaii, whereas the struggle in California has been ongoing for fifteen years.

Ferrets are commonly believed to be wild, vicious animals that will hunt and kill prey if let loose. This is false...misinformation pure and simple. Ferrets have been domesticated for thousands of years; possibly even longer then the common house cat! Domestic ferrets are significantly different from their wild counterparts having poor vision, skeletal differences, size differences, and reproductive difficulties! They are not hunters! There are only 65 reports of ferrets causing real harm per year (bites, scratches, etc.) out of the 8-10 MILLION ferrets in the U.S. alone! Even attacks per capita leave ferret attacks at a ratio of 1:250 at the MOST conservative and unrealistically low standards. In a more realistic light you are almost 5,000 times more likely to be bitten by a dog than a ferret! For many years people have been waiting to be able to use marijuana in peace, for religious, medical and recreational purposes. Not only is it a naturally occurring plant but the effects of the herb is much safer than alcohol (it does not impair judgment, the user can't get addicted...). Like anything it can be used, not abused.

Now prisons are filling up with harmless cannabis users, but the use of marijuana is still popular. Now it's time for people to speak up for their rights. It should be up to you if you wish to roll a joint in your own house! Don't let the government control every aspect of your life or it will get worse!

Marijuana is illegal right now in the United States.

Marijuana is less costly and it is much safer than many prescriptions. Plus tax payers pay billions of dollars in taxes to prosecute Marijuana users. Every 45 seconds a a person is arrested for this, 85% of the people arrested for having possession of marijuana, 15% for selling it.

Legalizing it will give the goverment control over it, raise tax that will go to public schools, health care and more. When bought in a store you know it's pure. Also if legal it can be restricted from people under the age of 21. And you can't drive stoned - same laws that apply with alcohol.

Marijuana is not like other drugs. It is not addictive. It does not destroy the body or the mind any more than fast food or beer does. All the problems of marijuana in today's society stem from the fact that it has been made illegal. If we legalize marijuana, we will solve our problems.

Consumer fireworks are fun and exciting to use. We the people of Massachusetts see no reason to ban all consumer firework use. There are more accidents caused by drunk drivers then of firework users and still alcohol is sold to consumers even on Sundays now. Cigarettes cause cancer and many other illnesses. They can also cause fires and still they allow them to be sold. Many other states that allow fireworks, do not have as many injuries. Why? Because the people of those states aren't doing them illegally and they are not in a hurry to light them before local law enforcement arrive, causing less injury and less fires. Also, those states that allow fireworks use, have certain age requirements like that of tobacco, firearms, and alcohol.

We should have the right to use fireworks for Fourth of July, parties, for fun, weddings and many other occasions. There should be a certain age requirement like 21 would be the proper age to purchase and use fireworks. There also should be permits that can be obtained for use of consumer fireworks and special locations where they can be ignited. Or if the person has enough land they should be able to ignite them on that property if they own it, if it is inspected by local Fire Dept, and obtain a permit from the Local Fire Dept.

Fire arms are legal in this state and many murders and injuries occur and still guns are sold to the public with appropriate licenses.If fireworks were legal in this state there could be a certain tax on them making more money for the state and money that could be used for grants or other appropriate uses. We, as taxpayers of Massachusetts, should have the right to sell, purchase and use fireworks in the state of Massachusetts.

Little by little new laws are coming out trying to control the way we want to live our lives. We the people of this state have the right to choose our government and all elected officials that govern our state and we will put those in power who are for us, and remove those in power who are against us. This petition will be emailed to every Senator and Representative in Massachusetts.

I believe that paintball should be made legal in the U.S.Paintball should be legalized all over the United States.

It doesn't make sense for it to be illegal in some places and legal in others. A person could buy a paintball marker in a place it is legal to buy one, then go to a place where it is illegal and do vandilism. If a paintball marker is illegal, why not a baseball bat? They can do the same things, vandalize and kill Do you no why paintball is considered dangerous? i'll tell you, its people who go around and shoot houses and cars and people. It is a very safe sport if the right precautions are takin, such as wering the right saftey gear especially made for the sport, and chronographing your marker before play. Marijuana should be legal. There isn't an actual reason why it shouldn't be. It's a lifestyle, a lifestye should be a choice. It's less harmful than alcohol and cigerettes. One of my friends ran away for three days, got really drunk and smoked marijuana. She got sent to rehab and a girl tried killing her. Rehab's do alot more harm to us then merijuana. Rehab's should be done away with or it should only be for people who actually need to go there.
