1. ΣΤΗΡΙΞΤΕ ΤΟ ΓΕΩΠΟΝΙΚΟ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟ ΑΘΗΝΩΝ SUPPORT AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS

The current Greek government’s project called “ATHENA” about the restructuring of the country’s Higher Education proposes the ‘federalization’ of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) with 4 other dissimilar universities (Athens University of Economics and Business, University of Piraeus, Panteion University and Harokopio University) under the aegis of a common administration.

However, according to the recent Act 4009/2011 of the Greek government for Higher Education, there is no justification such integration, implying the downgrading and, afterwards, the dwindling of AUA; such integration is based on financial logistics rather than on criteria of academic excellence.

The Agricultural University of Athens, the third oldest Greek University established in 1920, is internationally recognized for its research and educational attainments and affords high quality infrastructure on its own property.

During its almost one-century long history, AUA has substantially contributed both in the progress of agricultural sciences in Greece and, along with its graduates, in rural and national development, in particular during the most hard periods of our country’s history. Especially under the current circumstances, with the need for the reconstruction of the country’s rural economy, as the basic pillar for the exodus from the crisis, being widely recognized, AUA has to be further supported and upgraded.

2. Brooks4Congress2012

I am running for the US Congress because I feel I am the best qualified to serve in this role as part of my civic responsibility as a citizen of the US. I spent most of my working life in the service of my country as an officer in the United States Navy.

I am stepping forward as a candidate for Congress because, “If it is to be, it’s up to me.” I also believe, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” - Edmund Burke.

We Have Lost the Spirit of Participation in our Democracy

I believe we have lost our way in America because we have lost the spirit of participation in our democracy and have outsourced virtually everything in our country - including our values. Nothing has been asked of us, except to “go shopping.” We abdicate to others the jobs of fighting our wars, paying our taxes, controlling our government and caring for the least fortunate among us.

We look inward to our own self-interest, instead of outward, to the best interests of us all. We have abdicated the role of “we, the people” in our government, to “we, the special interests, lobbyists, and the wealthy.”

We Have Abdicated Our Civic Responsibilities to Those Who Finance Re-election Campaigns

Money in politics is a systemic corruption in our republican form of government. Benjamin Franklin, after signing the Constitution in 1789, was confronted by a woman outside the hall who asked, “What kind of government do we have?”
“A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it,” was Franklin’s reply. In order to keep this republic, we must return to “one person, one vote” rather than “one dollar, one vote.”

I am an INDEPEDENT

I am running as an INDEPENDENT because both Democrats and Republicans bow before the god of campaign contributions. The average congressman spends 75% of his/her time raising money for re-election, and whatever scraps of time remain, grudgingly represents his/her constituents. My incumbent opponent in this election is A PARTICIPANT in the scramble for campaign contributions that created our current dysfunctional government. He is a career politician who depends upon PACs and special interests for almost 70% of his campaign contributions. He consults you, the voter, ONLY when he wants to be re-elected.

I am NOT a career politician. I will NOT accept any campaign contributions from PACs, special interests, the wealthy or corporations. My candidacy is an opportunity for you, the voters of the 8th Congressional District, to return to the truly representative government envisioned by our Founding Fathers. The alternative is to continue down the road of dysfunctional, corrupt government.

With a “critical mass” of INDEPENDENTS in Congress who pledge to accept no campaign contributions and serve only 1 term, “we, the people” can break the hold of moneyed interests and lobbyists. But it is up to you, the voters of the 8th Congressional District to show the way.

If you elect me to Congress, you will make US political history.

3. WJJG is For Smart Shows Only

Not only did 2011 see the sudden death of Joe Gentile, but the removal of intelligent programming and music from weekdays (and even parts of the weekend).

It is totally unfair to get rid of Angry White Male, Job Talk, John DiVita's Morning Show, and other programming that made WJJG an amazing radio station.

Mancow should not be on at all. He is incoherent and his show does not belong on a community radio station like WJJG. Michael Savage should be aired in two hours or removed too, and sent back to WIND.

If you believe that WJJG should continue with original programming and music during weekdays, please sign this petition. This is an outrage and we need to keep whatever we have left of special radio stations like WJJG.

6. Citizens Against the Seven-Period School Day in NEISD

We the students of NEISD, in order to enhance our education, believe that the A/B schedule should be retained, and not switched to a seven-period day. As it is now, we have four periods a day, alternating classes every other day. Eight classes, each 90 minutes long.

If it were switched, we would go to seven periods every day, each roughly 45 minutes long. This would eliminate the eighth class, making it more difficult to take electives related to future occupational interests. In addition, shortening the classes would increase the homework load each day, which would lead to a decrease in interest and a lower homework completion rate. This increased homework would force students to stay awake late at night to complete work due the next day. Students would have less time to study in class and at home, and general performance would fall. This would not be very beneficial in moving towards our goal of becoming a "Distinguished Campus," and having a 95% attendance rate.

Finally, with more periods each day, there would be less time for passing between classes. As it is, going from the top floor of one building, across campus, and up to the top floor of the other building cuts the current eight minutes close. If it were shortened, there would be many more tardies, resulting in more students reaching the tardy limit and getting in trouble even further.

8. Independents Support the California Open Primary Initiative

A new “top-two” open primary initiative has been placed on the June 2010 ballot in California. Open primaries are an important reform to change the revolving door that keeps electing the same failed party insiders who are beholden to the same special interests.

The Democratic and Republican Parties, as well as their largest special interests, are working to defeat the open primary. IndependentVoice.Org, California’s largest organization of independent voters, is working to educate the public about the initiative.

We’ve written the letter to the editor below and are asking everyone to sign on to it by April 15th. We’ll then send it to every newspaper in California. We’ll also keep you up to date on this important fight.

WE the American conservative and freedom loving voters are sick and tired of all the lies and corrupt politics that have been going on in this country for so long. We need and demand an honest Politician to be elected that has Americas best interests at heart and is willing to defend, honor, and uphold the United States Constitution regardless of the cost, or the general popularity.

We believe that based on the 20 year voting record of Dr. Ron Paul, and the Independent governorship of Jessie Ventura, that these two statesman would give us back honesty and virtue to the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of these United States.

13. Students Against 4x4 Scheduling

It came to my attention that the 4x4 scheduling divides semesters. Which in other words, we, the students, would have 4 classes one semester, and have 4 different classes the following semester, including an extra 50 minute period added to the day.

I have one thing to say, what about TAKS testing? As it is, not many students are skilled in math. What happens if a student who needs more help in math gets their math class the first semester? As you may know the TAKS test occurs towards the end of the year.

The probability of the student remembering what they learned the last semester is very low.

16. Kenya's Flawed/Rigged Election On 27 Dec 2007

Mr. Kibaki must step down and give way for Mr. Raila A. Odinga - the people's president because Kibaki is in the office illegally and has imposed himself on Kenyans.

Even though Kenya has struggled to gain democratic space, the behavior of Mr. Kibaki takes Kenya years back into colonial era.

The evidence does not need more corroboration since:
The just ended Kenyan election ECK Boss admits, Yes, vote tallying had problems, admits Kivuitu. And when he demanded all constituency tallies, he found some figures were not the ones he had personally seen, he said. As of Tuesday, he added, the commission had not received the official Form 16 from four constituencies. The forms give the actual figures from constituencies signed by the returning officer.

It is those forms that had raised a furor when ODM leaders disputed the results, arguing that 49 constituencies had not submitted them and that the ECK was merely using a computer generated form that could be done anywhere. He said the officer had shown him forms of two constituencies — Juja and Kieni — whose results had been tampered with and the returning officer had not counter-signed, as is the normal practice. A shocked Mr Kivuitu said: “What surprised me was the files I saw yesterday (Tuesday) were very clean and the two files I saw (previously) were very dirty because of the cancellation.” He had informed his commissioners that he was dissatisfied.

Three issues to note:

1. No Going to Kenyan Courts: The matter cannot be resolved in the Kenyan courts because at the hall where the rigging and manipulation was taking place was the Justice Ministers Martha Karua and Internal Security Minister John Michuki. They were privy to what was taking place and maybe part of the rigging. So they cannot be trusted.

2. No Fare Judgment: Chief Justice took part in swearing the rigged in president at night knowingly the vote was rigged. Thus he is also part of the election problem facing Kenyans now and since judiciary is under his docket, there may not be a fair hearing.

3. Need for interim Government: As indicated by the Kenyan Attorney General Amos Wako that an independent investigation into vote results that led to President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election. This may not be possible since all the documents to be relied upon during the exercise have been severely tampered with by the government agents, stolen from KICC by the government that’s determined to erase all the evidence to cover her tracks in the melee and or lacks credibility.

This only gives way for an independent arbiter that can be impartial in the fact-finding mission while an interim government is in place while waiting for fresh elections. This must be within a short time say, three months at most.

All Kenyans know is that Kibaki did not win the elections but has robbed Kenyans.

18. MUSIC WITHOUT INDUSTRY

Listen to your local or national radio, BBC or commercial. The likelihood is
that any music you hear will only be those bands which have been signed
to the big commercial labels who indirectly control many of the playlists.

If you ask local radio DJ's why they aren't playing music from the local
bands who are packing out the music venues in your area, the reason
they give is that they have no freedom to choose the music they play.
Big industry buys control of playlists.

Even the BBC marginalise independent
music to late night slots and Radio 6. Local BBC radio doesn't even attempt
to play local music.

This means that the really great bands you want to hear might never get
a break or reach a wider audience.

19. More transparency in the veterinary profession

The veterinary profession is self policing and is now one of the only professional bodies that are,it surely is time that it was policed by an independent body.

It was only a few days ago that I found out that the term"vet nurse"is an unprotected title which means just about anyone can call themselves a "vet nurse" and that all vet nurses do not come under the jurisdiction of the RCVS(the only person a vet nurse comes under is a vet that they work for), so unqualified nurses should not be allowed to work on animals without a vet being present.

A vet may also alter the records of your animal or not keep them up to date which is vital in cases of dispute, all records should be made legal documents.

All of this has come to light because a vet decided he would not make all of his dealings with a very special cat called Ebony( who now has no teeth and a coat that has been mutilated) transparent and runs a practice that at best is confusing and muddled.

20. Call Taiwan's different political parties to unite against the Chinese Communist Party

Taiwan's Pan Blues and Pan Greens have been striving with each other for a time that makes Taiwanese people sick.
Taiwanese people should realize that the real threat is neither Blue nor Green, but the Communist regime across the strait.

If the Communists had never stolen the nation of China, the Nationalists would not have applied "White Terror" in Taiwan; thus, the native Taiwanese would not have been oppressed by the 1949 fleets; thus, there would not have been so much conflict between the Blues and the Greens today.

In fact, as Dr. Sun Yat-Sen suggested, Taiwan should be independent, if there had never been riots by the Communists in China, the Nationalists probably would never have occupied Taiwan, and Taiwan now would be Republic of Taiwan.
While the Greens are accusing the Blues of loving China instead of Taiwan, the real threat comes from the Communists. The Blues never set up weapons against Taiwan, the Communists do.

Since the Nationalist Party is Chinese Nationalist Party, the most ideal to finish the whole strife on Taiwan's political stage is to send the Nationalists back to China.

However, as long as the Communists are still in charge of China, the Blues cannot return to China; and Taiwan cannot join the UN as an independent nation.

21. Stop Torture - Guantanamo Bay Detainee Jumah Al-Dossari

In June 2006, it was reported that three men at Guantanamo Bay were found
dead in their cells from apparent suicides. This action was described by the
camp commander as "asymmetrical warfare," and an attempt to gain public
sympathy. However, FBI reports indicate that inmates have been subjected to
cruel and inhumane conditions while at Guantanamo Bay. Furthermore, their
state of indefinite detention, while being stripped of the writ of Habeas Corpus,
leaves them without recourse to any judicial process to challenge their
detention.

Bahraini national Jumah al-Dossari has been at the camp for over five years. He
claims he has been tortured in custody. This has included beatings and death
threats, prolonged isolation, exposure to extreme cold, and sexual assaults.

Amnesty International published a handwritten account by Jumah Al-Dossari in
2005, where he described "the revolting torture and those vile attacks which
were a humiliation and will continue to be a vile stain on history, memories that
whenever I look back on them, I wonder how my soft heart could bear them,
how my body could bear the pain of the torture and how my mind could bear all
that stress. How I wish my memories and my thoughts could be forgotten…"

Read Jumah Al-Dossari's full account of his imprisonment here.

On 15 October 2005, Jumah al-Dossari attempted to hang himself after going
into the toilet during an interview with his lawyer. In November 2005 he told
his lawyer that he had wanted to kill himself so that he could send a message to
the world that the conditions at Guantánamo are intolerable. He added that he
had tried to do it in a public way so that the military could not cover it up and
his death would not be anonymous. This suicide attempt left him with a broken
vertebra and fourteen stitches in his right arm.

Al-Dossari writes of feeling hopeless, of awakening screaming due to flashbacks
and nightmares, and fearing that he is losing his mind--all of which are
indicators of severe trauma. He attempted suicide again in March 2006 for
what is believed to be the 12th time.

He is currently in a state of indefinite detention, and no plans either to bring
him to trial or release him have been indicated. Several detainees have already
been released or repatriated for trial due to individual campaigns. The following
petition is an attempt to alleviate his situation and urge authorities to afford
him the basic rights that are required for detainees everywhere, in war or in
peace, under the provisions of international law.

22. Justice for Imran Campaign

Imran Rashid, a 28 year old British-born Muslim from Middlesbrough has been unlawfully captured and incarcerated in a mental hospital without any reason or warning. The hospital has shown no interest in Imran’s welfare and safety and are holding him against his wish, in order to punish him in pursuit of their vendetta against him.

They show little empathy, overrule and dismiss his feelings. Imran’s life is in danger and the power to help rescue and save him is in your hands, so please help by signing this petition.

The hospital medical team are of no comfort or assistance, Imran has no trust in anyone of them and is requesting immediate removal to some where neutral and safe, both Imran and the family feel those responsible for his care and treatment are bias and discriminatory and could be danger to Imran’s life by provoking him into committing suicide. His human rights are not valued and the family has been offered little or no support. The hospital atmosphere is unwelcoming as staff give the impression they are superior, authoritarian and powerful. The family is very concerned about the threats made by the hospital that “Imran will never be released”.

This case is well known by all agencies and black professionals, who instead of helping, are simply passing it on to other agencies, wrongly assuming that it does not concern them or their professional remits. The family feel helpless and powerless in the face of institutional conspiracy and bias by the NHS Mental Health Trust which has little or no knowledge and understanding of mental health needs of Ethnic Minority and Muslim patients. Even the government is aware of the failure and inadequate treatment and service provisions for BME Communities in England (04 October 2006 Black & Minority Mental Health report).

Please Help! Can you imagine what you would feel and do if your loved one was locked-up in a mental institution, without any reason, or any independent support & representation – What would you do if your plea for help fell on deaf ears whilst the world just stood by watching your pain & suffering? Parents & friends of Imran Rashid have launched a campaign for “JUSTICE FOR IMRAN” and are humbly requesting your help and support.

23. Molly Holly (Nora Greenwald) for the WWE Hall of Fame

For six years, Nora Greenwald graced us with her presence as World Wrestling Entertainment diva Molly Holly.

Prior to the start of her WWE career, she wrestled on the independent circuit from 1997-1998 as Starla Saxton winning two regional championships in Florida. She tried out for the WWE as Starla in 1998, but didn't make the cut.

Then, she got her big break in 1999 when (thanks to Macho Man Randy Savage) she garnered a slot with WCW as Miss Madness. Then, after being let go by WCW, she went to the WWE in 2000 and was given the name that would make her a legend... Molly Holly.

She won two WWE Women's Championships for three months in 2002 and for an unprecedented six months in 2003. She wrestled at WrestleMania XX at Madison Square Garden in New York City (the WWE's home for many years), where she had her head shaved after losing her match to Victoria. Nora also trained several WWE stars including Victoria, Trish Stratus and Gail Kim, all of whom won the Women's title. I guess that gives Nora a moniker of "Trainer of Champions".

She left the WWE in 2005, but her popularity and demand would soon take off to unbelievable heights. A few months after leaving the WWE, she released her shoot DVD "Shootin' The Crap" which won rave reviews and adoration from her fans. She has since been a guest referee at several independent shows and made guest appearances at others. She did attend the previous three WWE Hall of Fame ceremonies (including last year's event featuring an emotional tribute to inductee Eddie Guerrero, who was one of Nora's friends).

Today, I encourage everyone to sign this petiton telling the WWE that we want Molly Holly, Nora Greenwald, inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame possibly as early as WrestleMania 24. This is also in hopes that they decide to select Minneapolis, Minnesota, to be the site for WM 24.

If you are a die-hard Nora Greenwald/Molly Holly fan, please sign this petition.

24. Inquiry into medical animal testing in the UK

Doctors and research scientists are increasingly speaking out against animal testing. All animals are different, so they feel the results from animals can't be applied to humans, and it is dangerous for human patients if we try to do so.

In 1997 Labour came to power in the UK. One of their pre-election pledges was to hold an historic investigation into the medical relevance and safety for human patients of using animal experiments.

The medical relevance of animal testing has come under more doubt since then, but they have still refused to honour the pledge.

Among the developments in that time were:

§ 83% of doctors, in an independent poll, supported the idea of an independent evaluation.

§ A 2004 paper in the British Medical Journal concluded that "the contribution of animal studies to clinical medicine requires urgent formal evaluation."

§ Scientifically evaluated cell culture tests have been discovered to be 80-85% accurate: easily more accurate than animal testing.

§ Adverse drug reactions have been estimated to be our fourth leading cause of death: killing over 10,000 people a year in the UK and costing the NHS £466 million, according to medical journal studies. All drugs contributing to this have passed tests on animals.

An Early Day Motion raised by a concerned MP requesting such an inquiry attracted the support of hundreds of MPs across the parties and was among the 1% most popular EDMs. The MP consulted with doctor's group Europeans For Medical Progress (see www.curedisease.net) who actively supported the move.

UK CITIZENS - SUPPORT THIS CRUCIAL INQUIRY
If you live in the UK, your MP has until November 2006 to sign EDM92 - go to www.vote4animals.org.uk and enter your postcode to find ways of contacting him or her. It takes about 5 minutes.

See http://www.vote4animals.org.uk/edm92.htm and www.curedisease.net for more reasons why we need this inquiry.

25. SaveTheFDA

June 19, 2006

To save ourselves, we need to Save The FDA!

The FDA is beholden to Big Pharma rather than the other way around. This is evident since the FDA:

1) lets Big Pharma get away with keeping its defective products on the market - even though they may cause you to die!

2) prevents you from buying Canadian and other low cost medicines -
thereby trying to help eliminate Big Pharma's competition... at great cost to you!

3) lets Big Pharma get away with rewarding your doctor for prescribing you less safe and more expensive medications... that you may not even need.

4) is trying to ban and discredit natural herbs and supplements -
to help Big Pharma eliminate its competition... at great cost to you!

5) continues to permit manufacturers of sunscreen and sunblock lotions to sell their fraudulently labeled and misrepresented as effective, products.

----------------------------------------------

We, the undersigned, petition the Department of Health and Human Services to promptly create an office that oversees the FDA ensuring that the FDA promptly:

1) becomes the people's fiduciary and puts the interests of the American people before the interests of industry and profits, ensuring truth and ***proactively*** prevents collusion and fraud by weeding out those individuals on payroll or otherwise, who put their personal agenda before the agenda of the FDA.

2) creates an independent office that reviews the safety of drugs already on the market, separate from the office that puts drugs on the market in the first place.

3) seeks to help lower the cost of medicines and health care for the American people and helps encourage innovation by helping promote competition for the pharmaceutical and health care industries through the importation of safe medicines and other health care products and services from other countries.

4) mandates that doctors be required to disclose to their patients the costs and risks of all medicine choices - including generic alternatives.

5) mandates that Big Pharma does not use doctors (and others who prescribe medicine) as salesmen; That if Big Pharma provides trips, freebies and other perks to those who practice medicine, it must do so without preference to those who bring in the most business.

6) helps to ensure the safety of natural herbs, remedies and products that compete with Big Pharma's products - not to ban them or discredit
their value without actual independent proof - studies not sponsored by Big Pharma.

7) quits its vendetta against the herb, ephedra and doesn't attack other herbs without merit. Unless a natural substance is more dangerous than its synthetic form, it's disingenuous to prohibit the sale of the natural substance if the synthetic form can be sold without a prescription.

8) promptly addresses the legitimacy of sunscreen and sunblock products and prohibits fraudulent labeling and misrepresentation of efficacy in blocking harmful ultraviolet radiation.

It wasn't based on a Carbon Leaf album (www.carbonleaf.vanguardrecords.com www.carbonleaf.com)

It wasn't rotoscoped (hand-drawn animation over live-action footage)

It wasn't made by an independent (John Sayles, Sofia Coppola, David Gordon Green, Todd Solondz, etc.)

It wasn't filmed in Spokane, Washington (www.thebakerplanet.com/spokanemovies.doc)

It wasn't a coming-of-age dramedy (comedy-drama) in the tradition of Stand By Me and The Outsiders.

28. Say No to China's 'Anti-Separation Law'

The National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) approved a draft of the "Anti-Separation Law" in December 2004 and will submit it to the NPC for further deliberation and passage in March, 2005. The enactment of such a law deeply concerns Taiwan, an independent and sovereign nation comprised of 23 million people.

The "Anti-Separation Law" will provide unification with the PRC as the sole option for cross-Strait relations. The law outlines what Beijing considers acts and consequences of Taiwan independence, and further promotes its "one country, two systems" stance in strict conformity with its so-called "one China" policy. At worse, the law would, in effect, legalize war against Taiwan in the eyes of Beijing.

Passage of the "Anti-Separation Law" would change the status quo unilaterally and result in serious consequences for peace and stability in the region. It ignores the political reality that Taiwan and the PRC are two independent and equal entities and disregards the desire of the Taiwan people to determine their own future. In December 2004, for example, the Mainland Affairs Council conducted a survey to Taiwan people in which 83% or respondents polled expressed opposition to the enactment of the "Anti-Separation Law."

The passage of such a law would quickly destroy what little trust there is in Beijing and erode cross-Strait relations further.

This is a call for Peter King to stand as an Independent so he can continue to represent the people of Wentworth.
