1. Stop Cap On High School Credits
Visit this website to read more about the Education cuts in Ontario: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2012/03/27/toronto-ontario-budget-education.html
2. Save Fulford
The former Penistone Grammar School buildings Fulford, Weirfield and the stables and the site they are situated on are been sold for possible residential development, which would lead to the demolition of these buildings.
These buildings are an integral part of Penistone's social history and must be retained for future generations. Other alternatives for use and conversion need to be fully exhausted before this can be allowed to happen.
3. Take Shark Fin Soup Off the Menu in BC, Canada
100-150 million sharks are killed every year. In the past 20 years, shark population has decreased by 90%. Scientists predict that within the next 15-20 years, sharks will be completely wiped out.
The are the most important species on Earth, simply because they control levels further down on the food pyramid, as tertiary consumers, and therefore the oxygen levels in the ocean, which controls everything on earth, as it covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface.
Please protect this beautiful creature, and ban the act of shark finning. It starts out locally, but when brought to a global perspective can change the situation dramatically. The slaughter of sharks will soon affect you, so please, take action and sign the petition.
Thank you.

We were promised properly resourced quality nursing/midwifery services
- Public Sector nurses and midwives across metropolitan South Australia are taking action because the State Government has failed to deliver on its promise to support positive and resourced quality nursing and midwifery services.
It’s about time that these resources are delivered
- A promise was made, in February 2007, to provide more nursing and midwifery staff for direct clinical care so that other nursing and midwifery staff (including Level 2 and 3) could spend time performing activities that have an important impact on patients.
- Since this time, we have repeatedly requested that the resources be provided.
- To date, we have not been provided with a response or timeframe.
It’s the time we need to provide quality patient careThe failure to resource quality nursing/midwifery services has a negative impact on patient care. Failure to meet the promise means that less time is available for important work including:
- Quality improvement
- Infection control
- Rostering (ensuring adequate and appropriate staff on shift)
- Clinical teaching supervision / support of new staff
- Professional / knowledge development and resources
- Co-ordination management and planning.
We have exhausted all other options to make the State Government deliver
- Because we have not received a response, we are taking action so that the State Government will provide us with the resources we need to provide quality nursing/midwifery services.
- We regret that we have been forced to take action, but we are taking action because of our commitment to the community and your health needs.
- We ask for your patience and support in our campaign – this is a campaign to ensure the community gets quality nursing/midwifery services and that’s why ‘It’s About Time’.
6. Economic Credit Management as a subject in all Schools
I would like to start a petition for our teenagers in High School. The petition will be about our Credit in the United States of America.
Through these hard economic times, I believe it is important for every one to know about how and why our credit effects who we are as people. I believe all students in school should be taught how to manage, not only there money, but their credit as well!
It is important for our youth to understand how credit will effect the rest our lives and the impact on our lives.
7. End the Genocide in Darfur!
Dear friend,
Last July 31, the U.N. Security Council authorized 19,000 additional peacekeepers to help stop the violence in Darfur.
A year later, barely 2,000 additional peacekeepers have arrived, and those that are there lack the equipment and support that they need to protect Darfuri civilians.
That's why I've signed on to the Save Darfur Coalition's international petition to the leaders of China, France, Russia, the U.K., and the U.S., the five most critical voices on the U.N. Security Council. We're demanding that they fulfill the promise they made a year ago, and stop dragging their feet on fully deploying the peacekeepers.
Will you join us, and 75,000 others around the world, in signing this important petition? Our names will be displayed with 75,000 others in a major media event on July 31, the one-year anniversary of the Security Council's important - but unfulfilled - resolution.
A Security Council resolution is useless without concrete action from the U.N. and the leaders of the nations who lead it. It is outrageous that the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council - China, Russia, France, the U.K., and the U.S. - cannot produce just 24 helicopters needed by the peacekeepers to help end the brutal genocide.
This is a failure of will, plain and simple. The world promised Darfur protection but has failed to deliver it.
Since the peacekeepers were authorized by the Security Council a year ago, 440,000 more Darfuris have been driven from their homes. The people of Darfur can't afford to wait any longer for these world leaders to find the courage to act.
Help me send these world leaders a strong message: let's stop dragging our feet and keep our moral obligation to bring peace and security to Darfur
Thanks for joining us in this important struggle. It means a lot.
Thank you!
The wonderful anime series Air Gear. It is about a young boy, Iki, who pursues his dream of air tricks and-with help from his newmade friends-goes on to achieve his dream-to be able to fly.
9. Keep Capital Punishment OUT of our Country
We don't have the death penalty in the UK, and that's great. But I have recently seen a lot of petitions to bring it back. I am deeply concerned about this, and I hope you'll agree with me.
So please sign this petition, to make sure we stay just as humane as we are at the moment!
10. Compulsory Recycling in the UK
So many people these days seem to think that the environment is none of their business. They carry on putting paper in with the rubbish and leaving TVs on standby. But if we carry on like this for much longer, we will have no future as a civilization.
Without the trees, the carbon emissions increase. This is causing the polar ice caps to melt rapidly. If the West Antarctic ice sheet melts completely, sea levels worldwide will rise 20 feet. If the Greenland ice sheet melts, the sea levels will rise another 20 feet. This will cause untold damage to seaside communities like the islands of Tuvalu in the South Pacific. The highest point in the small country is around 4 metres above sea level. When the sea rises, it will be wahed away, along with 11,000 lives.
The way to avoid this is recycling. Some people will continue to put paper in with the rubbish just to spite us. If you're one of those people, I'm here to tell you, it's not funny and it's not clever. If your too lazy to sort out your own rubbish, then it should be YOU getting killed by global warming, not the 11,000 innocent people who could be washed away when Tuvalu goes under.
In WW2, the government didn't ask us to VOLUNTARILY eat less to help us win the war. They MADE us live on rations. Which, of course, was excatly the right thing to do. The same ethic needs to be applied in this case.
We MUST make recycling compulsory, before it's too late.
11. Horse slaughter is extremely inhumane!
Horse slaughter is extremely inhumane! Many people do not realize how awful these horses are treated.
Currently, three foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States are killing horses for human consumption. They are in Ft. Worth, Texas; Dallas Crown in Kaufman, Texas and Cavel International in DeKalb, Illinois.
According to the US Department of Agriculture over 100,000 horses were slaughtered in 2006. In addition to the horses killed in the three US-based plants, thousands more are transported under deplorable conditions across our borders into Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered.
Conditions of transport are appalling. Horses are typically hauled for more than 24 hours without rest, water or food in trailers that provide little protection from weather extremes. They are often forced onto cattle trailers with ceilings so low they injure their heads. Many horses—sick, lame, pregnant or blind—are in distress even before being loaded.
Once at the slaughterhouse, the suffering continues unabated. Horses are left for long periods in tightly packed trailers, subjected to further extremes of heat and cold. In hot weather, thirst is acute. Downed animals are unable to rise. All the horses are moved off forcibly when it’s time to unload. Callous workers, using fiberglass rods or electric prods, poke and beat the horses’ faces, necks, backs and legs as they are shoved through the facility and into the kill box.
Subject to extreme overcrowding, abuse, deafening sounds and the smell of blood, the horses become more and more desperate, exhibiting fear typical of “flight” behavior—pacing in prance-like movements with their ears pinned back against their heads and eyes wide open.
Despite the federal mandate that horses be rendered unconscious before having their throats slit, repeated blows with captive bolt pistols are often necessary to stun the animals. Terrified horses writhe in the holding stalls (known as the “kill box”), legs buckling under their weight after each traumatic, misguided and ineffective blow to their heads. Death, the final betrayal of these noble animals, is protracted and excruciating.
Prior to the closure of all three foreign-owned plans in the U.S., over 100,000 horses were being slaughtered in the United States and processed for human consumption. Now, tens of thousands of live horses are transported across the border to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. After these horses are killed, their flesh is shipped to Europe and Asia for human consumption. Their owners are often unaware of the pain, fear, and suffering their horses endure before being slaughtered.
Some myths about horse slaughter:
Myth: Horse slaughter is a form of humane euthanasia.
Fact: Horse slaughter is a far cry from humane euthanasia.
"Euthanasia" means a gentle, painless death provided in order to prevent suffering. Horse slaughter is a death fraught with terror, pain, and suffering. Horses are shipped for more than 24 hours at a time in crowded double-decker cattle trucks without food, water, or rest. Pregnant mares, foals, injured horses, and even blind horses must endure the journey.
Once they arrive, their suffering intensifies—undercover footage obtained by The Humane Society of the United States demonstrates that fully conscious horses are shackled and hoisted by the rear leg and have their throats slit. Because horses are skittish by nature, it is particularly difficult to align them correctly and ensure the captive bolt stun gun renders them unconscious.
Unwanted horses should be humanely euthanized by a licensed veterinarian when no other option exists, rather than placed on a truck, cruelly transported, and then butchered. Most horse owners already use humane euthanasia for their older or ill horses.
Even though the states have shut their plants, our horses are still being subjected to intense suffering and abuse though transport and slaughter over the border. Undercover footage shows live horses being dragged, whipped, and crammed into trucks in 110 degrees on their way to a horrific form of slaughter in Mexico and Canada. These horses are stabbed multiple times in the neck with a "puntilla knife" to sever their spinal cords. This procedure does not render the horse unconscious, and is not a stunning method. Rather, it paralyzes the horse, leaving him/her twitching on the ground, unable to move or breathe, and then they die from suffocation (because their lungs stop working) or from blood loss during dismemberment.
You can make a difference! Please help by signing this petition! We must stop the way these horses are being killed!!!
12. Planet Earth and the U.N. belongs to God!
As an international consultant for entrepreneurial and social development, with more than 20 years of expertise; I had the opportunity to formulate for the European Commission (EC/UE), a innovative project to foster competitiveness of micro and small enterprises in El Salvador, which is now underway.
The UE spirit to finance that project is to support entrepreneurs to reach economic sustainability, prosperity, and a satisfactory life quality, in order to contribute for an integral development in our nation, that will lead us to a global market niche. And the ultimate goal of that visionary spirit is to build a world with equity and more opportunities to live.
A very important area of my expertise has been gained from international training and projects implementation; and one of the most important learnings I was in Taiwan, Republic of China; a nation with kind and laborious people, innovative mind, loyal heart, and with a sound spirit of entrepreneurship and firm beliefs.
Now, back to the spirit of that project I formulated for the EU; a guessing thought arise in my mind: Why we in the world pretend to develop our countries excluding other nations from the international politic, social, and economic scenario?. Something wrong is in the mind of leaders who decide to act in that way. And that misunderstanding, comes from their heart, because they forget God, the only one owner of this planet, the only governor above all nations.
God wants all the humankind to be his truly sons and daughters, and for that purpose He will remove any obstacles; including those ones who deny Taiwan, Republic of China as a member of the United Nations organization.
Progress can not be built excluding others. World sustainability can not be built on foundations of political ego and unreasonable decisions about the human rights of others.
13. Minimum Age of Consent for Sex with Adults
On May 4th Canada's House of Commons passed Bill C-22 which raises the age at which a boy or girl can consent to sex with an adult from 14 to 16 years. This important bill has been languishing in the Senate ever since instead of receiving the fast-track passage it deserves.
Now, Senators have decided to commence a three month holiday without passing the bill, thereby giving sexual predators another three months during which they will be able to exploit vulnerable boys and girls legally.
14. Save the animals of the world
Today we shall save animals as it is stoping there rite to live and we were those animals wewouldnt like to be in there shoes would we?
We cannot stoop animals killing eachother but we can try and save animals being killed by poachers and if we dont stop now maybe we will forever loose speecheise of animal such as tiger or elephant wich are rapidly being killed for ivory and skin!!!
Leaving dog poo smells bad, looks ugly and lets face it, nobody likes treading in it!
16. keep JROTC in SF
JROTC has been a part of the San Francisco high schools for about 90 years, but as of November 14, 2006, the school board has decided to take it away from the high schools. The main concerns against JROTC is about the war and how JROTC is related to the ARMY. However, what people lack is knowledge and experience in the program.
Although JROTC is based on the ARMY, JROTC is a totally different program than what is learned in the ARMY and ROTC in college. It is true that we march, drill, and learn some ARMY values, but this is by no means a place of recruitment.
There is commitment like any other sports team, responsibility like a summer job, leadership like student government, community service like a volunteer club, first aid and CPR. Most importantly, there is a sense of family-- a bringing of everyone together.
"JROTC has been more than just a place of leadership, teamwork, camarderie, skill, safety, etc... This is what I'm good at. This program makes me want to be responsible, want to be a leader, and want to care for others. JROTC is for me. NOT THE MILITARY." (Vienna Luu)
For the SF school board to take away JROTC from SF high schools in the future would be ripping our family apart. There is no other program of my knowledge that has all of these features combined.
"Our opponents cling to 15 year old statements and glittering generalities as evidence, while we have over one and half thousand current tales, and literally piles of books and documentation in our favor. Yet these few attackers, most of whom have no connection with the educations system, are given equal credibilty." (Daniel Chin and David Ziman)
I cannot convince everyone to help stop global warming, but I know something that can, people say one movie can't change the world, but I think this one will.
I highly reccomend you see this movie, it's called "An Inconvenient Truth". I'd say global warming is the most important issue of anything that has ever happened, more important than terrorists or, well, everything! And anyone that thinks global warming is a load of sh** is a bastard and I hope they die of heat exaustion.
There are all these shows on TV about human life after the year 2100, but if global warming continues and if we don't do anything about it then 2100 is marked as about the time that everyone and everything on Earth will die because the planet is starting to boil! And it will keep getting hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and it won't stop there it will keep going even if the human race and all other life has been killed off by it, it will keep getting hotter because our self running machines are still there burning up the planet.
Soon earth will be a ball of fire (literally) orbiting around another ball of fire, the Sun, if this hasn't convinced you then why don't you go to the cinema and get a big box of popcorn and a large coke or any other drink you want, maybe a packet of chocolate or anything you want and sit down and watch "An Inconvenient Truth" because it will change your life and anyone's life that watches it.
July 17, 2006
Congratulations to Shayne for having the highest new chart entry for Stand by Me
at No. 14.
We know that is an achievement, but we also know that Shayne will be disappointed, and so are we. He is an absolutely amazing singer but the songs do not get enough people excited enough to go out and buy the singles. It also means, disappointingly, that the millions of people who voted for him on X Factor are deserting him. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
On the X Factor, his best performance, (except for If You Not the One, which we all agree was amazing) were all up-tempo: Cry me a River, Take your Mama, the Darkness.
We remember him preparing for Cry me a River on Xtra Factor
and Ben on camera saying, "did anyone know that Shayne had those moves?" Everyone was excited by it
he could sing
he could dance.. He looked amazing
so WHAT HAS HAPPENED?
On the X Factor tour he wowed us with his performances, especially of Take Your Mama. He was the Shayne we had come to know and love from the X Factor: dynamic, sexy, hugely charismatic. But this isn't getting across now, WHY NOT?
Then No Promises got to No. 2, most likely on the back of his X Factor success and X Factor tour performance. Three months later, SBM, is released and virtually receives no airplay. The fact that it reached No. 14 with no airplay is absolutely amazing
evidence of Shayne's loyal fanbase.
The problem is not with Shayne- he's singing is awesome, but as Simon once said, you are filling a Ferrari with diesel! The songs have to be simply outstanding to expose him to a wider non X Factor audience, a fact that you have seemed to miss entirely.
You seem to think that Shayne's audience is only interested in ballads. Do you know who Shayne's audience is? Because we are not all adolescents, or female.
Look at the other music threads on this forum. Has anyone at Sony done that, to see what appeals to Shayne fans? Although Shayne's young fans are very important and have an important part to play in his success, his fanbase is much broader than that..and yet we all want something different!
19. Reservation Quota Policy as proposed by HRD Minister Arjun Singh
This petition is in response to the proposal for 27% reservation quota in favor of the backward classes by HRD Minister Arjun Singh.
This letter voices the strong opposition to this recent proposal, and is not by any means, must be seen as an evidence of contempt towards the SC/ST/OBC. In the form of this letter, we attempt to initiate the realization of the major flaws in the whole system.
To do so, we require to carefully examine the legal, economical and the logical aspects as to why these quota reservations could pose a major threat to the well being of our country.
Need for Reservation- Reality or Myth?
The basic motive was to give the students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC equal opportunities because of their social disadvantages and lack of resources & exposure.
We need to ask ourselves: Has this motive been accomplished by the said reservation quotas?? Ask any doctor or engineer who has graduated with the tag of 'quota' and it will be clear that the procedure has failed to achieve genuine equality, depriving us from the Fundamental Right to Equality.
Constitution and Reservation:
Where articles 15 and 16 ensure every citizen freedom and equality before law, the unpractical provisions for reservation only highlight the contradictions in the machinery of the government.
Reservations were a part of the constitution when it was released in 1950. However, that was supposed to be a temporary measure and was to last for 10 years.
Part XVI of the Constitution makes certain reservations for the SC/ ST/ OBC for their election in the Legislative Assemblies and the House of People. Article 334 expressly provides that the reservations and special representations will cease after a period of fifty years. An Amendment (79th amendment w.e.f. 25-1-2000) to the Constitution in 1999 extended this time frame of fifty years to sixty years. Is this justified? Isn't this detrimental to the interests of the general members of the country who will now consider themselves unfortunate for not being tagged as "depressed" classes.
More than 50 years later the reservations continue to exist and have only become higher with passing years. The politicians, in an attempt to woo more votes from the public, continue to reserve more and more seats for SCs/ STs/ OBCs. This makes us feel as if the government covers its vested interests and political peripherals in the large cloak of democracy.
Certain Consequence of Reservation Regime:
The following are the sure consequences in case if the reservation regime is passed inspite of major oppositions by the IITs, and IIMs:
The caste-hatred in the country will increase, leading to aggravated tensions in the IIT and IIM class rooms.
Youngsters will lose faith in the democratic system of the country. If vote banks are so important to our politicians then we assure them that they'd lose a considerable part of it. We will not stay unplugged.
The benefit of reservation is always lapped up by the quota-students coming into the creamy layer, not being entitled for reservation, while candidates who may be more meritorious miss out on those seats. Such candidates might decide to go abroad, considering their encroachment of opportunities, to accomplish their further studies. This results in India losing talented people, who could have been the country's future.
The quota system, created to facilitate the poor, ends up wrongly being utilized by children of rich people, ministers and IAS officers belonging to SC/ST/OBC. The government and the ministers need to sit and carefully analyze the possible effects on their moves.
Quota helps students secure seat, not degree. This is a hard truth.
Brain Drain- With the reservation regime being proposed with ease and pomp, most of the parents are pushing their children to pursue their academics from institutions abroad sans the inequality and the so called privileged treatment confined only to the "depressed" classes. This will result in a major brain drain. There will be a time when we'll have to have reservation.
It is a well known fact that Where there is a Will, there is a way. If a certain member of the so called SC/ ST/ OBCs is really deserving and hard working then he/ she will surely rise through the ranks. There are already a lot of opportunities. People don't ask you now whether or not you are a member of SC/ ST/ OBCs if you're hard working enough. Then why should the SC/ ST/ OBCs come out and expressly mention their caste details in order to be treated in a privileged manner? Dr. Ambedkar, too, worked his way to the top in an era that was plagued with inequality and untouchability sans the reservation and quota policy. It is surprising to not to know any famous person who has reached the heights that Dr. Ambedkar himself has reached inspite of the quota tainted five decades. This is the biggest failure of the concept of Reservation.
Most quota students are not able to meet the standards of IITs, IIMs or other Indian institutes which are now globally acknowledged. These places of learning will have to bring down their standards and compromise on quality, which will, as an end-result affect the efficient development of the nation. It remains to be seen if the politicians consider their vote banks as important or the economic development of their country and the integrity of the constitution.
The placements of these revered institutes too bear the brunt.
Some statistics that highlight that Reservation Regime will lead nowhere:
The majority of quota students have failed to achieve even average performance:
o At IIM-Lucknow in 2004-05, large number of quota students failed to clear PG prog-I
o At GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, 50%admitted under quota flunk this year,35% get grace marks.
o 60% students fail to clear BSc exam,50% BCom and 40% BA under Allahabad University.
The government might be pushing for reservations for OBCs, but as things stand on the ground, even the 22.5% quota (SC/ST) in higher educations remains unfilled.
DATA collected by HRD Ministry for 2003-04 (latest figures available) show that the total number of students in higher educational institutes-a little over one crore-only 16% are SCs/ST. Which clearly means even with the existing quota, 6.5% of reserved seats are going vacant.
The ministry's data on admission says:
o In classes 1 to 5, as many as 27% of students are from SC/ST category.
o In higher classes, heir number reduces - so that only 24% SC/ST students remain in class 5 to 8, and just 19.1% in class 12.
o Of the 1489 seats in IIMs, 16.4% are filled up by SC/ST students.
o In IITs,it is about 18%.
Even now more than 60% of the students, whose performance are discussed in the Student Review Committee meetings of IIT Delhi, belong to the reserved categories.
o The cumulative grade point average of these students hovers in 5-6.5 range.
o This despite the fact that a one year preparatory course in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is conducted for them.
Moreover, its not just academics that suffer in the hands of reservation. We feel that government is dragging down the level of premier institutions instead of trying to bring them up to international levels.
Alternative solutions to the hike in quota:
The number of seats in premier institutes may be increased, but then the quality of education should not be hampered, to attain which, it will be necessary to increase the teaching faculty as well along with the infrastructure.
The unavailability of seats is not as big a problem to the SC/ST/OBC as their financial crunch is. Assistance may be provided in the forms of scholarships.
The expenditure on higher and technical education is 0.4% and 0.1% of GDP, respectively. This should be raised.
Progeny of those who have got a position through quota should be denied the same privilege. One 'quota-case' in every family is sufficient.
The misuse of the quota by the powerful and the rich should be taken care of. Proper investigations and checks must be undertaken by the ministers who so loudly advocate the reservation regime.
The level of primary and secondary education must be boosted. All the problems start from primary level itself, if a student does not have a strong base, then he cannot complete higher education successfully.
The government should make efforts to uplift backward classes by strengthening the educational base of these classes at the primary level. Caste does not define how intelligent a person is. Rather it is differences in resources and exposure.
The government should start some campaigns to ensure that students from all sections of society are encouraged to pursue studies atleast till 12th standard.
Reservations in premier institutes are of no use unless creamy layer of students is kept out of it.
Merit V/s Quota
* FICCI president Y K Modi on September 4, 2004: "No where in the world is there reservation in the private sector".
* CII president Anand Mahindra on May 31, 2004: "The concept of reservation without reference to merit could have a distorting effect on the operations of the private sector".
* Ratan Tata: "Though I do not want to comment on it (reservation), it is bad in some way, it will tend to divide the country into different groups." " While uplift of socially backward classes is important, merit is an important aspect and should not be compromised"
* Assocham president K Sanghi on June 14, 2004: "It will have a far reaching impact on the industry as it may completely destroy the meritocracy in such units and bring inefficiency".
* FICCI president Y K Modi on September 04, 2004: "We oppose it as the move is against industrialisation and will lead to job reduction".
* NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik on May 31, 2004: "It will completely destroy the meritocracy in the private sector".
* Pune-based Alfa Laval India's MD Satish Tondon on August 08, 2004: "If I employ 1,000 staff, 5 per cent reservation would mean I have to recruit 50 people I may not need".
In the end we'd like to mention that the upliftment of socially backward classes is important, merit is an important aspect and should not be compromised. If the quota system has failed to serve the purpose till now, how is it going to help by increasing it?
20. Global Challenge Shimane Program
The Global Challenge Shimane Program carries out an important role in the educational exchange between the U.S. and Shimane.
I wish for this program to be recognized and granted more consideration from here on forward.
21. Sri lankan Govt must show accountability of 'Tsunami relief Aid' spending
As most of you are no doubt aware, the recent Tsunami disaster has had a huge impact on Sri Lanka. Thousands have died and many more have lost their homes and livelihood and are now displaced, in need of urgent medical attention and basic food and commodities.
The news of the Tsunami has impacted the world and touched the hearts of many and thanks to the generosity of people far and wide 'Tsunami relief aid' has been flowing into Sri Lanka in the millions. With the money coming in the Government of Sri Lanka should be able to start rebuilding this nation and feeding the displaced.
The Sri Lankan Government is made up of politicians who represent the 'ruling Sinhala class' and have not always played fair. They are more favourable to the Sinhalese Buddhist majority, often denying the same treatment to the minority Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, Indian Tamils.
It is more important now than ever at such a crucial time that the 'relief aid' is distributed fairly and equally to the areas that are in desperate need of help following the Tsunami.
At the same time it is equally important that the money be used to help the people and not for the Governments own use. Purchasing military weapons for example would be a misuse or abuse of the trust and generosity of the contributing countries whom have so generously contributed their hard earned money.
Therefore we think it is imperative that an impartial outside committee be created to supervise the spending of the "relief aid" and that the Sri Lankan Government show full accountability for where the money has been spent and how much has been spent and whether 'the aid' has been equally distributed within the affect areas in Sri Lanka.
The signers of this petition agree: The World Cutltural Society is an important club and should be launched in Kinnelon High School.
We feel that this club would be optimal to cultural understanding in the town of Kinnelon, New Jersey.
23. Keep St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church Open
St. Gregory The Great is an important structure within the City of Detroit. There are approximately 200 families that are active members in the upkeep of the church. St. Gregory's is important not only as one of the oldest active Catholic Churches in the city; but as a vital asset to the surrounding community.
The Archdiocese of Detroit, has decided that St. Gregory's should close its doors forever, and that the parishoners should transfer its membership to neighboring parishes.
The Archdioce states that the Parish is deeply rooted in debt, and that there is no possible escape from this mounting debt.
24. Support GSA at Richland Center High School
Please support me in forming a Gay/Straight Aliance at Richland Center High School. Understanding Diversity is an important key to living everyday life. I feel that RCHS is in need of this type of support program! If you agree, please do your part to help by signing this petition.
25. End Bolt's Unfair Discriminatory Practices
Description/History:
Recently, Bolt has decided to put in place, and enforce discriminatory policies regarding the age of posters on certain boards.
Their stance is that posters on boards falling under the category of "sex and Dating" need to be 24 years of age and under. It is important to note that boards such as "Marriage and Commitment" "Long Distance relationships" "Abstinence" "Birth Control" and many other relatively innocuous boards fall under this heading.
This is not simply a meeting place for teens looking to flirt, but a place where people can discuss, ask questions, and look for answers. Sometimes it is people a bit older, who have lived a bit longer, who are best suited to answer these questions.
Please help us put an end to Bolt's discriminatory practices, and let them know that you value all members of the Bolt community- recognizing them all as an important part of this site.
26. Stop Bolt's Discriminatory Practices
Recently, Bolt has decided to put in place, and enforce discriminatory policies regarding the age of posters on certain boards.

27. Portent Petition
This petition is to bring back Groups and Factions . The mods have been treating the people who hold this subject dear with no respect , and I find it assinine that "officials" would act in such ways. I would also like to say that G&F were very important , many topics were being discussed , and all of those topics were shut down. It's not right , and I for one would like to make Portent a better Community by re adding this great posting area.
28. Stop The Production of Child Labour Made Products
We would like to boycott products made from child labour in stopping the production of these products, such as soccer balls or carpets. We would like factory owners realize how important this issue really is and the danger of having child work. We feel that by doing so, we will be one step closer to eliminating child labour around the world.
29. Free ATF Sliman
Free Sliman!
I think Sliman should be un-grounded. School is very very important, and I think grades should be set to a high priority, 7 months for a sentence is a long time. So far this year he has demonstrated that he can pull straight A's and that he does want to do well in school. I petition that as long as he keeps his grades at all A's he get parolled for limited gaming until the end of the semester.

30. End horse slaughter in Canada
We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the house to the following:
THAT hundreds of thousands of work horses and foals have been slaughtered for food in order to be sold as gourmet meat in foreign markets; and
THAT in 1998 alone, approximately 23 152 American horses were transported to Canada and killed for human consumption; and
THAT horses are companion animals, they are not raised for food and are taxed differently than food animals; and
THAT slaughtered horses come from a variety of places, receiving a variety of veterinarian care and drugs throughout their lives, unlike animals that are raised for meat; and
THAT the horse has been an important figure in the history of Canada and our Royal Canadian Mounted Police force; and
THAT in 1999, approximately 62 351 horses were slaughtered in Canada; and
THAT the state of California has already passed Proposal 6, known as The Prohibition of Horse Slaughter and Sale of Horse meat for Human Consumption Act of 1998:
THEREFORE we the undersigned, your petitioners call upon Parliament to enact legislation against the slaughter of horses and sale of horse meat for human consumption.
