Three simple words — “Save the Madison” — have been uttered online and off in the past few weeks, but they might as well be replaced by three more:
“Sell our souls.”
That’s what is at stake if the owners of the Madison Theater raze it to make way for a restaurant. And that’s what they’ve told the group who started the “Battle for the Madison” Facebook page.
The Madison is more than a building; hell, it’s more than most buildings in Peoria. Without going into the long and storied history of the structure, let me tell you what the Madison means to my generation.
It means many of our first concerts. It represents a point in time when a generation of Peoria musicians grew up with one goal in mind: playing the Madison. As rundown as it was then — a single light bulb hanging from the peeling ceiling, smoke hanging thickly in the air, the smell of sweat and stale beer sticking to the floor — it was ours. For many of Peoria’s youth of the ’90s and early 2000s, the Madison represented something we knew well: the feeling of being forgotten, ignored, even disliked.
At some point during this time, the owners made the decision to stop making repairs and bringing in acts. Now, it appears, another of Peoria’s forgotten landmarks will suffer a fate similar to the famed CBGB New York City night club, and it will be no less unceremonious.
The people behind the “Battle for the Madison” Facebook group, which accumulated more than 1,000 “likes” in a single week, are at fault for giving up too quickly. But their crime is a misdemeanor compared to the felony of neglect perpetrated by not only the owners of the building but by Peoria’s politicians, who sat by not far from the Madison and watched it deteriorate.
Year after year, winter after winter, storm after storm, the Madison crumbled inside and out. The only work I can remember being done there in the past decade was to take down the burgundy-turned-faded-pink awnings on the exterior of the building and discard them. Jim Comfort told the Journal Star last May that it would cost $18 million to refurbish the Madison. Those costs come after nearly a decade of vacancy. How much preventative maintenance was done to the structure?
It is their negligence, and the apathy of the majority of Peorians, that doomed the Madison. And it’s their disregard for history that will eventually turn Peoria into one endless, chain store-filled boulevard.
Say what you will about the Madison, but you can’t deny this: It had soul.

3. Arrest Our Elected Members of Congress for illegally not passing a budget 
It is written in the US Constitution that Congress must pass a budget. No budget has been passed in over 4 years.
Clearly Illegal.
4. Keep Stockyards Shootout Tradition
The Fort Worth Stockyards is home to many traditions that make it a trademark for Texas pride and historical enthusiasm. It has stood the test of time, survived many disasters both natural and man-made.
For over twenty years one tradition has stood unopposed until today, the legendary Cowtown Shootout featuring three individuals, a law man, and two criminals, both armed with the iconic weapons of the western age; the revolver. During an extensive and immersive dialogue that attracts both regulars and newcomers alike, the two sides simulate an almost-real experience that explodes into a shootout that ends in the demise of two outlaws.
5. Time Team To Continue on TV (and/or be released on DVD)
Time Team is a TV Programme that is shown in England (Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Nothern Ireland, Isle Of Wight), America, Australia & more.
It searches the History of the land up and down the Country(s), It has been on TV for almost 20 years.
There is a new project's 'Dig Village And Dig Ventures' but at the same time, Time Team should continue on another network and we would have 3 great programmes.
Fans of the Programme have never got bored of it & want it to carry on in a new lease of life on another TV channel.
As generations change, more people will be interested in such a programme as its 'One Of A Kind'. This should continue.

The Kilby was built in 1913 by John and Nannie Kilby. The Kilby was a place that housed the children of John and Nannie Kilby. As the children got older and moved out on there own. John and Nannie felt lonely so they rented out the rooms to make extra money and to provide a place for blacks to stay that were traveling.
Over the years the Hotel was passed down thru the family. It is said that the hotel was a place where black entertainers stayed while preforming at club kilby and other places in the area. The Kilby is registered with the state for National Historical places and registered with the city of High Point as a Historical site.This hotel was one of the first hotels built by African Americans and owned by African Americans.At the present time the building is vacant and the McELrath family (owners) are wanting to restore the Hotel but keep it with in the family.
Keeping family history to help restore the African American Community while preserving a milestone of history.
7. No To Garfield Road Overpass but Yes to Loftus St overpass
For years the riverstone community has been put on the back burner with an overpass and we are happy that the government is moving forward to elevate the problems associated in riverstone, however we do not feel that the overpass on garfield road is the suitable option as it will destroy business , history and the local community the community would like the government to move forward on the Loftus st option.
Dunellen, a small town in New Jersey, was incorporated on October 28, 1887.
Nicknamed the "Railroad Town," Dunellen started as a train stop and grew into the square-mile quintessentially American blue-collar town it is today. Sir Thomas Lipton lived here as a teen, boxer Bob Fitzsimmons walked his pet lion downtown, and resident Christian Schepflin brought the sport of lawn bowling back to America.
Currently, Dunellen is home to a world-class table tennis center run by a former U.S. Olympian, an ice hockey rink frequented by Jersey Devils team members, and one of the first dine-in movie theaters in the country. Although it is one of the smallest towns in NJ, it has a respected school system and numerous championship sports programs. Its annual Halloween parade is one of the oldest, continuous parades in the country.
Dunellen is centrally located in Middlesex County on the borders of Union and Somerset counties. It shares a zip code with Green Brook, home of "Jerseylicious" Gatsby Salon. Dunellen is on the New Jersey Transit Raritan Valley Line and has several bus lines going to NYC.
How did Dunellen get its name? There are several stories. The most accepted is that it was named after Ellen Betts, a family friend of John Taylor Johnston, owner of the Jersey Central Railroad. It is the only town in the United States with this name.
Dunellen is turning 125 on October 28, 2012.
9. Save Fulford
The former Penistone Grammar School buildings Fulford, Weirfield and the stables and the site they are situated on are been sold for possible residential development, which would lead to the demolition of these buildings.
These buildings are an integral part of Penistone's social history and must be retained for future generations. Other alternatives for use and conversion need to be fully exhausted before this can be allowed to happen.

11. Campaign to restore the dignity of Welsh History
A very crude and poorly produced exhibition concerning the Princes of Gwynedd has been placed in a public lavatory in Abergwyngregyn, North Wales ....
People all over the world are interested in Deptford's maritime history. The proposals for Henry VIII's royal dockyard and the site of John Evelyn's Sayes Court manor house and garden in Deptford must be fought with all the spirit and tenacity that historically characterizes the site that launched ships for the battle of the Spanish Armada, launched countless voyages of discovery of Drake, Frobisher, Cook, Vancouver, and set out ships for Nelson’s battles including Trafalgar.
By signing the petition you register that you are dissatisfied by the current development proposals for Convoy's Wharf by Hutchison Whampoa and News International.
The petition is a tool to measure local, national and international feeling about these development proposals. It is still necessary to write to Lewisham with your response to the developer's proposals.

The Steele Mansion is being reconstructed after nearly being razed. It has been approved to be used as multi-family housing (apartments). There are 15 units.

For years now ancient skeletal remains and artifacts including stone walls, stone dwellings, stone fireplaces, altars and petroglyhs carved in stone have been discovered all over New Zealand.
These remains are anscestors of this country, but instead of studying and/or preserving these priceless discoveries they have been left unprotected and under constant threat from development.
In 2005 in the Kaipara District a pig hunter found human bones. A curator of the Dargaville Maritime Museum and a team of researchers investigated the findings. They found 3 types of skeletons, some were 7-8 feet tall, some were of a small pygmy size, the others were normal.
A specialist who examined the the remains likened the small ones to a race of people living in Wales 3000 years ago. This discovery was not made public. The size and shape of the skulls found were clearly not polynesian.
An archaeologist found carbon datings around one of the one of the stone cairns near the Waipoua forest 2.3 metres down that proved there were people living in New Zealand 5000 years ago. Stone dwellings, walls and other ancient stone artifacts were also found in the Waipoua forest.
* The remains of twelve skeletons were unearthed by contractors doing earthwork on a farm in Taranaki. They were in a formal European burial ground which was similar to the bog burials of Britain. The burial ground was not known, even to the local iwi. The skeletons were well preserved in woven material but no photography or forensic testing was permitted.
* Just over a deade ago in Waikaretu, skeletons were once again discovered by earthworks contractors. They were found in a cave in stone crypts. Anthropologists were called in but the site was shut down and a 75 year moratorium was placed upon it. Stone housing found near the Waikaretu stream was crushed to use for road metal.
These are just few of the hundreds if not thousands of discoveries that have been made over the whole of New Zealand (including remains found on my family farm in Raglan) and not just recently but over many decades.
These ancient people need our voice, our strength and our unity to protect and preserve their very existence!!!
15. Save Humanities at London Metropolitan University
London Metropolitan University is proposing to cut 70% of undergraduate courses by 2012-2013. If this proposal goes through, it will spell disaster for London Met's HALE (Humanities, Arts, Languages and Education) Faculty, effectively ending non-vocational and real critical education at the University.
Philosophy, History, Performing Arts, American Studies, Theatre Studies, Modern Languages, and many specialist areas such as Caribbean Studies, are being cut. It will also mean the end of all Joint Degrees currently running in the Faculty.
No students or members of staff in the affected areas were consulted in advance of this decision. Thousands of current – as well as potential future students – will be deprived of the opportunity to improve their lives and careers through studying these courses. Hundreds of members of staff are about to have their careers peremptorily terminated.
Recent calculations based on current student numbers suggest that the University will actually lose more income from the cuts than it can possibly save from redundancies. Malcolm Gillies claims there is no demand for these courses, but without any supporting evidence. In fact, all these courses recruit well, and are widely regarded as centres of excellence within the University: in The Guardian’s 2011 Student Satisfaction Survey, LMU's Philosophy and History departments were respectively placed 29 out of 47 and 48 out of 93 (considerably higher than LMU's overall ranking); Performing Arts at LMU is recognised for its training methodology, in nurturing creativity and creating critical practitioners, whose work is experimental and socially engaged.
London Met has a student demographic of 57.2 per cent from working-class backgrounds, as opposed to a national average of 32.3 per cent. London Met also has one of the most ethnically diverse student populations in the country.
To close off access to Humanities to these students presents a reversal and shrinkage of educational opportunity of unprecedented enormity in the history of UK education and a direct attack on the community that London Met is meant to serve.
We are situated in one of the most diverse and culturally-exciting cities in the world. As an academic and media capital, the idea of a London institution, devoid of programs in Philosophy, History and Performing Arts is a frightening and bleak one indeed.

Hurstville Oval in Sydney's South has played a significant roll in developing world champions for generations. From the Olympics to Roubaix, this suburban development ground has cultivated some of the finest talent to represent Australia on the world stage.
Decades of blood, sweat and tears have saturated the velodrome starting out as dreams on one day to representing Australia the next. Now, there is a serious threat whereby cashed up sporting codes want to muscle in and take control of the oval to the detriment of the velodrome.
17. Protection of 'Vermont', Historically Significant Lands in Launceston, Tasmania!
Petition to protect the rare inner city agricultural lands on the Western side of Vermont Road, Mowbray, Launceston, on the banks of the North Esk River. This land is known as 'Vermont'. These lands have a history dating back to the early days of Launceston (1819) and were once owned and overseen by Tasmania's first distinguished Botanist, Robert William Lawrence, first son of the famous Tasmanian colonist William Effingham Lawrence.
Historically significant happenings include: Aboriginal Hunting Grounds, major conflict between Aboriginals and Early Settlers, Bush Rangers making several appearances in the area and on the property, and the use of Convict labor on the land(s) from 1819 until 1856. The land was the used for several early farm machinery tests and also for the first meet of the Launceston Gun Club in the mid 1870's. Items dug up from the near by 2nd original homestead of 'Vermont' (1870) include coins dating back to the late 1700's, pieces of a dueling pistol, clay bottles and pipes and several broad arrow marked Convict bricks.
On the Western side of the road there lies a creek bed where, it is said, stone was cut by Convict labor to built a wall and dairy at 'Vermont' which is still standing. Convicts were also used to drain the river flats by the North Esk River due to regular flooding and for other general agricultural purposes including 'barking'. The lower river flats have now regressed back into their natural state holding a large variety of bird, plant and frog species and house a rare bio-diverse area in that of which the Green and Gold frog lives.
These privately owned lands could be due for subdivision in coming months/years. There is also a proposed 'Eastern By-pass' for heavy vehicles that will run right through the land, which will disturb residents in many ways on the Vermont Road as well as Bill Grove. The by-pass will have a detrimental effect upon the rural outlook of the area as well as its long standing history and cultural values. We must see this last piece of beautiful rural scenery not be built upon by modern housing estates or highways as the effect would be disastrous. This land still retains rural features of its earliest known land grant of 1819 and is most probably the last in Launceston to still be in such an original condition, partially bounded by original Hawthorn Hedging to the South and West. Near to said lands there is a cottage which was erected in the mid 1820's named 'Braemar', an early neighboring farm to 'Vermont' owned by John and James Lamont.

18. Save The Odeon, North End, Portsmouth
Please sign to save the building and to keep the building and to preserve the heritage for generations to come.
it is One of the original Oscar Deutsch chain of Odeon Theatres. The Portsmouth Odeon opened on 14th December 1936 with Sydney Howard in "Chick". It was the largest and most expensive Andrew Mather designed Odeon of that year. Total seating was provided for 1,824, with 1,224 in stalls and 600 in balcony.
It has an impressive monolithic tower frontage in cream faience with vertical green bands and a roof of red Spanish tiles. The auditorium's ornate decoration included tall murals on side walls depicting film subjects.
A two week closure from 10th September 1960 for modernisation, including installation of 70mm with new wide screen and proscenium in front of original. Then began a glorious period through the 1960's of almost uninterrupted Roadshow presentations (with the Gaumont almost opposite taking the Rank first-run weekly release).
Tripling took place on 26th August 1973, with 573 seats in screen 1 (former balcony) and 132 in each of the mini-screens located in the rear stalls under the balcony. In 1990 a fourth screen was added in the former front stalls area and a new screen was installed in screen 1. Further refurbishment has taken place since then and the current seating is 1. 631, 2. 229, 3. 179, 4. 259.
19. Help Save the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Mansion!
John A. Macdonald was the first prime minister of the Dominion of Canada, but that was the end of a story. It was his predecessors, Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine and Robert Baldwin, who made self-government possible. In fact, La Fontaine was the first Prime Minister.
His contributions are commemorated in the place names of parks, towns, streets, bridges and even a tunnel, yet when our children learn Canadian history, they are taught that Canada began in 1867. Canada was born amid shoot-outs, riots and fires. La Fontaine and Baldwin had created a balanced, fair government and knew that the change to a democracy would be a difficult process for the old oligarchy of Tories and businessmen to accept.
Confederation, dominated by the old Tory elite making the same claims, helped to perpetuate an illusion that Canada began in 1867, but place names survive, waiting for us to wonder why they were chosen, and in the process, to rediscover our past and learn of the real struggles our ancestors endured in order to make Canada the first colony to secede from the British Empire in a civil manner – without war. The building we are advocating for was once the home of Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine the great man who is mentioned above. This Victorian style mansion built in the 1830's is currently left to fall into ruin by the City of Montreal. Over the years there have been many people advocating for the building and yet nothing has been done. Something must be done to save the building.

20. Support for: The Video Nasties Retrospective.
I, Tim Porter have been organizing an retrospective, dedicated to an important time period in Horror Cinema & British Film History. The Video Nasties (as they were named by the press) created a mass of moral outcry. These movies were released on a new technological device that could be used at home: The VHS Player.
Videos were un-certified and figures such as Mary Whitehouse and the Conservative government decided to draw up a list of titles to seize and prosecute these movies as they were deemed evil and repugnant. This caused a ripple effect with the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), as similar films were heavily censored.
This retrospective focuses on the events of the 1980's. I plan to screen 16 of the so-called nasties. These screenings will include special guests ranging from film critics, filmmakers and academics. We plan to debate and discuss in a broad context the impact that this time period has made, whether the films were as harmful as first thought and a general discussion on censorship. We will also highlight recent films such as: A Serbian Film (2010) as a prime companion to the response from the media and censors about the film's content.
These screenings are proposed to go ahead at the University of Westminster: Harrow Campus. I am asking for your support as the university are hesitant about the event. This petition is to show the interest and a possible idea on audience numbers this event will attract.
21. Restore the Historic Copano Fishing Pier!
The Aransas County Navigation District has a spectacular idea for renovating and modernizing the historic Copano Fishing Piers while the new Causeway is being constructed. If funding can be found, the proposed renovation would be at no cost to the citizens of Aransas County or the Aransas County Navigation District.
The purpose of this petition, along with resolutions from the Aransas County government entities and various non-profit organizations, is to clearly demonstrate that this project is of interest to our community.
22. Save Our Museums at Stamford and Grantham
Stamford Town Council and the people of Stamford are fighting to save our museum which is currently under threat along with that of Grantham.
Stamford is a strategically important centre of heritage and the first conservation town in England.
Its history, dating back to the Bronze Age, are of vital importance in our understanding of the history of England and are embedded in the largest collection of Charters (14 in all) which we wish to preserve for our future generations and world heritage.
23. Urgent - Save Collector Creek!
The old timber Collector Creek Bridge, NSW, is currently being demolished by the Upper Lachlan Shire Council as quickly and quietly as possible, against Collector residents wishes.
This is wanton destruction of an important Australian historical bridge which was built in the 1880’s. The Collector Bridge is on the old Federal Highway to Canberra and is part of the route that was used by pioneers to Southern New South Wales from the 1830’s. In addition it is adjacent to the site where Governor Macquarie named Lake George in October 1820.
Upper Lachlan Council wish to replace it with a low level culvert 1.5 metres below the level of the current bridge and dig up and lower the old Highway for 100 metres on each side.
We consider this to be an act of vandalism against the heritage and environs of the Collector Creek but also of the State of New South Wales.

24. National Black Woman’s Heritage Month
The legacy of the American black women is such that it must be recognized as distinct and culturally significant to the advancement of the black community and the American Society.
Therefore to designate a time to recognize, reflect and remember black women is necessary and relevant to "when and where we enter" because it celebrates the mother of civilization and dignifies her contributions to human and humankind.
25. Add Disability History to Curriculum
In the United States, there are 49.7 million Americans with disabilities. As of 2000, this represents 19.3 percent of the 257.2 million civilians age 5 and older, who are not living in prisons or other institutions. 6.5 million children and youths receive special education and related services to meet their individual needs.
More and more children with disabilities are receiving education at the home school in their neighborhoods. Many of these children receive services in a segregated environment and they are often the targets of bullying.
We believe, teaching the history of the disability rights movement and about the positive impact people with disabilities have had on technology and society, in schools as part of our history curriculum and standards of learning, is necessary. Teaching the history of other diverse groups, in our school systems, has been proven to have a positive impact on the group and society, as a whole. It has taught inclusion, communication, respect and compassion.
We know, teaching our children's generation about disability history will have the same impact. Our children will learn to have respect, inclusion, communication and, compassion toward their peers with disabilities. The impact this will have on society will be far reaching.
26. Hands off Cuba, Hands off Assata
Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is an organization comprised of New African/Black people whose mission is to defend the human rights of our people and promote self-determination in our communities. We aim to fulfill our purpose through various programs and initiatives we do in our communities.
It is vital that we come together to support what is just and fair. If we don't stand up in support of one another's struggles, despite of our individual efforts we will not as a community, go far. We encourage you to check out our website www.mxgm.org to find out more about the work we do.
We are campaigning in support of a sister by the name of Assata Shakur. Assata Shakur was a member of the Black Panther Party who currently has political asylum in Cuba because of her political activity while she was in the United States. Assata Shakur stands as a symbol of freedom for many people in the US and we'd like to ensure that she remains unharmed. We are appealing to the Cuban Government because we know that they have the power to keep Assata safe.
This year marking the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, we'd like to celebrate Cuba's historic achievement while also gaining assurance that Assata will remain unscathed. Please read over our letter and join us in solidarity!
27. The Steel City Derby Is One Of The World's Finest - So Give The Coverage We Deserve!
On the 16th Oct 1893 Sheffield gave birth the the Steel City Derby, being considered widely as one of the most passionate and hotly contested football games in the history of the sport with it's ability to place an evident divide down the middle of our fine city as the fans from both Sheffield teams pledge their allegiance in their own club.
In excess of 115 years later and 123 games later the Steel City Derby is still as passionate and as big as it ever has been in the city and surprisingly no real team has any real bragging rights or can claim to be dominant over the other as in total Sheffield United only lead Wednesday by 3 games in the total number of games won.
I'm not going to go into it much but over the history of the Steel City Derby the fans of both Sheffield teams have witnessed some pretty memorable games, and in the nineties the two teams competed down at the old Wembley stadium in a cup semi-final which believe it or not saw an attendance of roughly 75,000 people travel down to the capital from our fine city.
Sooooo.........I ask you this! Considering the significance of The Steel City Derby which is widely renound as a passionate affair and great entertainment for even the neutral spectator, Why do we only find our games between the two clubs televised once a season??? When sky clearly show favouritism when opting for coverage of less significant games and even Derby games which in theory aren't even genuine Derby games showing teams who play many away from each other??
This needs to change, and the only way we can make Sky take any notice of us is for the people of Sheffield to join forces together in Support of The Steel City Derby and to show just how much it means to us, and how significant we feel it is for them to give us the coverage that we deserve!
Therefore please take a minute to sign this petition which will be presented to Sky TV when a significant amount of Signatures have been collected!

If you are reading this it is because you know The Mask was one of the greats non-heroes (or hero in movie and TV show) of story. When the original comics ends in 2000 and then they make the worst sequel of history, it's time to playback!
The new generations deserves to meet the original and uncopied Mask, and how it could happen before to this years? Let's sign to the rise of The Mask; like in the original comics or like in the film or TV show, whatever let's do our best to see new stuff of The Mask. Let's put it in someone face!
29. ATTILA VÁRA

30. Add Alexis Grace to the Tour
Alexis Grace was treated the worst this season, and arguably worse than any other idol in the history of the show because:
1) the judges singled her out and gave her "advice" to "dirty herself up", which painted negative picture of her character in the minds of some voters, thus costing her some popularity. ONLY she had to deal with this. This "dirty" emphasis is the most likely cause of Alexis' elimination at country week. So their failures not only attached a stigma to her character in the minds of some voters but it likely cost her the tour and much longer and deserved AI run. (see my other blog post)
2). The save was made for a situation just like Alexis': a talented performer who picks a "bad" song and gets surprisingly eliminated, has lots of potential and would shine the following week, and has something as significant as the tour at stake. In addition, they should have saved her based on principle; their mistakes most likely led to her elimination and at the very least attached a stigma to her character. So they had the chance to own up to their mistakes and give her the save that she deserved. But instead they chose to deny her of the tour and let this amazing talent fade into obscurity with an unjust elimination, and a lingering stigma on her character (from the "dirty" emphasis). At the same time, they were generous to others with the wildcard picks (ie Megan, Jasmine, Matt (bringing him back after he bombed the top 36 and then giving him another chance after the top 7). Arguably it was because she didn't sing her swan song well enough, but then they save Matt even though he sang his swan song worse than the night before, even though he has "no chance of winning what so ever" (Simon) and even though he had already been given a second chance after not getting enough votes due to a bad top 36. Not to mention that he (and everyone else this season) did not have to deal with a perceived character flaw that stemmed from judges' failures).
3) To make matters worse, to kick more dust into her eyes, they (Kara) then LIE about her AI run in attempt to make Alexis seem worse then she actually was. They did this to justify their mistake of not saving her and in doing so they unjustly reaped away all her deserved credit... they made it seem like all of her performances were "bad song choices" (a total lie).
I think in Alexis' case, aside from the fact that the judges singled out only Alexis with their poor advice that cost her some popularity and added a stigma to her character in some peoples' minds that will now linger on even after her stint on idol, aside from the fact that their mistakes were the most likely cause of her shocking, premature elimination, aside from the fact that they chose not to save her even though the save was meant to be used for her type of situation... the most disgusting act was totally misrepresenting her AI run with blatant lies in an attempt to justify not saving her... to say (lie) that she picked bad songs throughout her entire AI run totally reaps away ALL of the credit she had earned throughout her short run. It's the biggest insult i have ever seen towards a contestant in AI history and it spoke volumes about Kara's integrity and lack of class. Instead of leaving with a legacy of good performances, she now leaves with the stigma of being the "dirty girl who didn't stay true to herself... the dirty young, single mom" who picked "bad" songs for basically her entire AI run. That is totally unacceptable.
