We believe that scooters and motorbikes should be able to use the same roads as buses, taxis and bicycles in Edinburgh.
Scooters and Motorbikes do not cause congestion and the Carbon Emissions are much lower than cars, buses and taxis.
Helaas...
Fables of the Green Forest back on TV
From 1978 to 1983 Dutch public TV network Tros broadcasted 49 of 52 episodes of anime series Fables of The Green Forest. We would like Tros to broadcast them again and, if possible, to release on DVD!
UPDATE: TROS announced that it will not broadcast this series again. TROS does not have the rights for DVD-release. They reside by the maker. The dutch broadcasters archive cannot tell me how to contact the maker and doesn't hold a copy of the dutch version. Alas...
Please help stop property developers from destroying our countryside. An application for affordable housing has been submitted to Cheshire East Council which will destroy a unique woodland feature on Marthall Lane, Ollerton in the supposedly protected Cheshire Green Belt. Despite having so-called protection from development, the law provides loopholes for property developers to exploit and believe it or not, could allow the Green Belt to be built on.
There are far more suitable brown field and derelict locations in the area that could, and indeed should be developed, but of course this land is more expensive than 'protected' green belt. Voila, out comes a proposal from the developer that may allow destruction of this unique habitat.
This petition does not reflect anyone's opinion on the merits of affordable housing or whether such housing is needed in our village but is purely a statement of our desire to protect the Green Belt.
The planning application number is 10/2203M and the consultation period ends on August 11th 2010.
Opinion polls demonstrated a significant number of ALP voters prepared to desert the ALP after its backflip on climate change earlier this year. With the recent change in Prime Minister, there is likely to be an announcement on climate soon, aimed at placating those voters.
The risk is that any new announcement will not be a significant improvement on existing ALP climate policy, but disaffected voters will feel they have to vote Labor for fear of worse under the Tony Abbott and the Coalition. This petition aims to give those voters a voice before the ALP announces its new approach to climate.
We also aim to empower voters who want to vote climate by providing easy to understand answers to questions about climate, climate policies and the implications for climate of their vote.
If you want to know more about these issues or if you like our petition but have questions or concerns you want to raise before signing, then visit our facebook site (above).
For the past year the Green Roof Initiative has been working with Fairfax County to help the local schools go green. The Initiative was first set up by three high school freshman over a year ago who researched, set up meetings and proposed a plan to help their high schools be a better place. A green roof is a type of green architecture were living plants are planted in a soil layer on top a roof.
Just to name a few of the benefits: green roofs help lessen the urban heat island effect, filter stormwater runoff and provide added insulation to the building which saves energy.
36. RePower Alberta
RePower Alberta Launches Across the Province
Building the Green Economy
Sierra Club Prairie and Greenpeace Canada have launched the Province-wide campaign, ‘RePower Alberta: Building the Green Economy’, to spread the word on the growing economic and community benefits of moving to a green economy.
RePower Alberta is calling on the Alberta Government to implement a Green Energy Strategy.
After decades of riding the roller-coaster of the fossil fuel sectors’ boom and bust cycles, the time has come for Alberta to forge a new energy path. Renewable energy resources and green just solutions are ready and waiting to meet our energy demands.
Diversifying our energy economy will provide tens of thousands of new clean and green jobs for Albertans, and has the opportunity to create just solutions to our province’s contribution to the climate crisis.
The government of Alberta, however, continues to drag its heels on introducing real policies, strategies or legislation that would set Alberta on a proactive course of strengthening the province’s position with one of the fastest growing sectors in the world.
Building the Green Energy Economy - We know that Albertans agree! In 2009, an Ipsos Reid poll showed that 78% of Albertans prefer that the Alberta Government provide subsidies for Renewable Energy over the Oil and Gas Sector.
Alberta can continue building a strong economy while maintaining a healthy environment for all of us to live in. We call upon Albertans everywhere to raise their voices and demand that the power be put back into our hands!
Check out www.REPOWERALBERTA.ca and please help us spread the word, and sign the petition.
We are opposing attempts to build housing estates on Green Belt land within our village. The plans are neither in keeping with the community or required by the community and are viewed as a profit making scheme and nothing else.
There are enough Brown Field sites in the UK to support our housing needs for the forseeable future so any attempts to build on Green Belt should be strongly opposed. Save our Green Belt!
Norwich South parliamentary candidate Antony Little has called for action to save our City's grass verges!
Responding to the concerns of hundreds of residents regarding the state of Norwich's green verges, Antony has launched a campaign to see them cleaned up, protected and most importantly, green.
Commenting, Antony said: "I have launched this campaign regarding the state of our green verges because it has been an issue that has arisen often on the doorstep. I hope I can have the support of residents in pushing the council to seek solutions to this, such as installing wooden posts and more trees to stop cars driving onto the verges in the first place."
"We are lucky to have a very beautiful City where many residents take a great deal of care and pride over the appearance of Norwich. By protecting our grass verges and ensuring that they don't become tyre track covered mud pits, we can create a more pleasant environment for all."
"I encourage residents of all political leanings to sign up and save our grass verges!"
You are cordially invited to enjoy, explore and create with us a New World embraced by supporters everywhere in favor of legalization of cannabis for medical, spiritual and recreational use. Our main objective is to present to the President of the United States of America a petition of one million plus signatures to abolish the prohibition of marijuana.
As a result of poor foresight and very significant maladministration, the Australian Federal Government's 'Green Loans Program' is set to end before mid-2010. That is less than one year from its inception.
Initial estimates given to assessors, who are at the core of the program, gave 31 December 2012 as a date for when assessments may no longer be required.
The aim of the program is to assist householders in making their homes more sustainable with the environment. An often quoted definition of sustainability appears in the 1987 United Nations Report 'Our Common Future'. It is also known as the 'Brundtland Report'. The definition is: "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
Green Loans is an excellent movement towards sustainability. It allows for a trained professional to visit homes in his/her area and engage householders on how their homes can be made more energy efficient. The householder then receives a report of recommendations from the government for implementation. If a recommendation is expensive, they may apply for a green loan of up to $10,000. This is fee free and interest free for four years.
Poor monitoring of the program has resulted in a massive influx of people being registered as assessors. It has been suggested that training organisations over-enrolled students to their classes. A huge rush to complete assessments is occuring to recover training and other costs before the funding for the program is exhausted.
In many cases, householders have had to wait for many months to receive the report of recommendations from the government. This is issued after an assessment has been lodged with the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. Until such report is issued, householders are unable to apply for the green loan. Nor can they know what any of the recommendations are.
It has also been revealed in Senate Estimates Hearings that since 14 December 2009 one company, Field Force, has received preferential treatment in being able bypass the call centre in order to book assessments. With under 10% of the assessor workforce, they are booking over 6,000 assessments per week (roughly 30%). In addition, they are passing on only half of the fees receive to their employees. This is to the detriment of thousands of self-employed individuals who made a conscious, life-changing, decision to join the program. They are not able to get through to the central call centre to book assessments, or have to wait inordinate amounts of time to speak to a call centre operator when they do get through. Even then, only five bookings per call can be made.
Update: Minister Garrett has today, 19 February 2010, announced that an additional 600,000 assessments will be rolled out. Funding will come by scrapping the less popular loans component of the program (this may have been less popular due to extensive delays householders faced in receiving the recommendations report). The number of assessors able to sign a contract with DEWHA will be capped at 5,000. The number of assessments per assessor will be capped at five per week and three per day and the number of total assessments per week will be capped at 15,000. From today, only individual assessors will be able to book jobs. The Green Loans Program will end on December 31, 2010 and Green Start will commence on 1 January 2011. Details on Green Start are promised in coming months.
Reaction has yet to filter through. As author of this petition, I am contactable on this page. The petition wording remains as it was since structural issues associated with the program continue to remain. These include:
* Uniformity in assessor knowledge, training and currency of knowledge;
* A need to investigate processes within DEWHA so that program changes (both present and future) can be incorporated smoothly;
* The establishment of a monitoring system (perhaps random), for both newer and older assessors.
The quality of the program (and the extent to which it may have thus far been compromised) remains, as always, an important consideration.
The government has promised an upgrade to assessor qualifications (to Certificate IV level). This is to be at no additional financial cost to assessors, although additional time will need to be invested. This upgrade provides a significant opportunity to bring the program back on track.
Author's note (19 February 2010): online petitions carry the advantages of amendability (to a point) and accessibility from diverse physical locations. This is a spirited attempt to connect people to elected representatives. Any other communication activities which occur, in addition to this petition, so that we may sustainably manage resources of the planet is encouraged. They may be individual or group based.
Having said that I will, with the collection of a sufficient number of signatures, print off the petition and personally deliver it to the Prime Minister and perhaps all elected representatives. Feedback on who the most appropriate addressee/s is/are is welcome. Thank you.
41. Stop landfills
Waste and rubbish dumped in landfills can take up to 500 years to degrade.
The only way to stop filling up our planet with rubbish is to be careful about what we throw away.
The earths resources are disappering rapidly, and we MUST do something, anything to help save it.

How many are used? and at what environmental cost?
This delivery system comes with at massive environmental cost. Not only with the printing and paper used but with the distribution to every home and business.
How many of use just pick them up and put them straight in the bin? or save them and never use them.
With Global Warming being such a huge problem its time to stop this system of waste. We need to create an 'op-in' delivery program. This is we the printed versions are only delivered upon request therefore eliminating pointless waste.
Join this Protest and help us to live in an environmentally cleaner UK.
This is the first protest from 'The Waste Project'. A project looking for a sustainable world.
To educate students, schools use paper and electricity extensively. Paper is used for worksheets, written exercises, textbooks, novels, and other products that are made from trees, which supply the planet oxygen and help reduce the effects of global warming.
By consuming the carbon emissions that pollute our atmosphere and alarmingly intensify the greenhouse effect, trees help cool the planet, but by cutting down more and more of them, we are escalating the effects of global warming and causing the polar ice caps to melt from the heat of the intensified greenhouse effect.
By using electricity extensively in schools, we are burning coal and releasing more and more carbon emissions into the atmosphere and strengthening the greenhouse effect even more. As this causes the melting of polar ice caps, we can already see what happens when it continues. As ice breaks up and melts in the warmer waters, polar bears and stranded in the water and will eventually drown.
Shorelines are advancing from the excess water from melted glaciers added into the ocean, and beaches are shrinking rapidly. If we don't do anything before its too late, we may make entire coastlines disappear from the swelling sea levels and entire species become extinct from lack of habitats.
The North Kelvin Meadow Campaign (www.northkelvinmeadow.com) is a voluntary community organisation in Glasgow. At the end of 2008, volunteers began to transform a derelict playing field into an inspiring green space, including a meadow, woodland, a community orchard and allotments.
Glasgow council wants to sell the land for flats, but local people feel strongly that it should remain a community space and do not want these flats on the land. Local authorities are required by law to provide allotment sites and Cosla, the umbrella body for Scotland's councils, has compiled a report which urges local authorities to acquire, manage and develop more land for allotments.
Currently the waiting list for allotments in the area is eight years. Please support us by signing the petition and writing to your MP, MSP and Glasgow Council about it! Thanks.
Mass transit is desperately needed in Southern New Jersey. Our roads are becoming more and more clogged by traffic, and during the Summer months, it is near impossible to reach certain destinations in the Summer months because of shore traffic.
We have few mass transit options, few to none of which are actually useful. At least one new train line in South Jersey is needed in order to alleviate the traffic along roads such as Delsea Drive, Route 55, and Rout 9/the Parkway. The current new line that has been decided upon must be extended through Vineland and Millville to shore points such as Ocean City, Wildwood, and Cape May. The line would also help to revitalize downtowns by drawing people to these downtowns to get to the train stations. It would also open up the job market by providing access to jobs in Philadelphia and other places along the line.
Currently there is a plan to extend service to Glassboro from Camden with connections to Philadelphia. However, this will not alleviate shore traffic and does not serve the population centers of Vineland and Millville.
Marijuana users are determined to stand up to the injustice of marijuana probation and accomplish legalization, no matter how long or what it takes to succeed. Despite the threat of arrests and a variety of other punishments and sanctions marijuana users have persisted in their support for legalization for over a generation.
They refuse to give up their long quest for justice because they believe in the fundamental values of Canadian society. Prohibition has failed to silence marijuana users despite its best attempts over the last generation. The issue of marijuana's legalization is a persistent issue that, like marijuana, will simply not go away.
Marijuana will be legalized because marijuana users will continue to fight for it until we succeed.
A planning application has been lodged for a small plot of semi natural woodland to be developed into housing. 10 (7+3) terraced courtyard houses are proposed.
The plot consists of an east facing railway embankment; a narrow strip of land between the railway and Hayburn Lane, with around 80 mature and semi mature trees, bushes and natural undergrowth, which is bordering a recognised wildlife corridor running along the railway.
This small bit of Hayburn Lane is a quiet back lane, belonging to the properties of Hayburn Crescent, Victorian blond sandstone tenements, built in the 1880s.
The railway embankment and the lane are used by local children as a ‘wild’ place where they can play and build dens. A lot of people walk their dogs along the lane, and it is also used as a shortcut by pedestrians and cyclists. The trees form a natural screen from the busy railway line. The only traffic in the lane is currently the refuse collection and the odd delivery to the back gardens of Hayburn Crescent.
To make way for the buildings the developers would have to remove all trees, bushes and ground covering vegetation, dig out and remove the railway embankment, which would completely destroy the green space.
There have never been any houses or mews here before, and it would change the back lane into a street with traffic. The proposed courtyard houses are not in keeping with the buildings in the conservation area, nor to the required standard for new builds.
There have been 3 earlier planning proposals, which have been rejected due to the plot’s unsuitable position and size, as well as problems with access and traffic.
Therefore we ask you for your support, and by signing this petition request Glasgow Glasgow City Council Development and Regeneration Services to stop this development, and instead keep the railway embankment at Hayburn Lane as a green space and amenity for the good of the community!
1. All the money in the world is VIRTUAL money, of no real consequence whatsoever (see the EcoTort website). Therefore there is no financial reason for anything. Eg, there is no financial reason why we cannot feed, clothe, house, & educate every person living on the Earth today, AND be 100% eco-responsAble too…!
2. Any contract to damage or destroy the environment is a contract to commit the most serious crime of “Aggravated Criminal Damage” to the environment (max Life Sentence, see the EcoTort website), and is therefore a void, unenforceable contract (which is based upon money which does not exist ! ).
3. According to UNiversal Law it is illegal to pay tax in ANY country of the world (see the EcoTort website) until the World’s Government(s) cease their criminal activities in allowing heinous environmental damage and destruction at present day UNprecedented levels; equivalent to a threat of war, and indeed being the single most likely cause of most conflict (armed and unarmed, domestic and international) in the World today.
4. AT LEAST 60% of everyones wages on the Earth is being collected by the elite bankers of the world, through interest payments on unenforceable contracts, to do with as they please; unelected, unrepresentative, unaccountable, and unacceptable! (see the EcoTort website).
5. Every Police officer promises to “protect life and property, and to uphold the Law”. The most serious threat to life and property, and the most serious breach of the Criminal Law are BOTH due to CRIMINAL environmental damage and destruction, for which the banking elites are demonstrably responsible (see the EcoTort website)..
6. The remedy is through a global implementalion of the principles of Permaculture (see the EcoTort website).
Question: How can you Plant a Million Trees, keep city parks and green spaces beautiful, and grow healthy food in community gardens and backyards?
Answer: Voice your support for the NYC Compost Project's Fall Leaf Collection and Compost Givebacks!
Compost—a natural soil amendment made of decomposed organic material—is one of the foundations that our gardens, parks and all green spaces depend on. It is also an efficient and green way to manage our city’s trash by diverting recyclable organic material from out-of-state landfills.
Up until 2008, the NYC Compost Project included the collection of our city’s fall leaves—roughly 20,000 tons per year, which will increase up to 3x with the Million Trees Initiative —for the production of municipal compost. This compost was given back to NYC residents and the Parks Department to revitalize our gardens and open spaces. However, the NYC Compost Project faced a lack of financial and political support for the Fall Leaf Collection and Giveback Days, and they have been cancelled entirely “until further notice.”
If we really want to be the healthier, greener city we envision, we need to reconsider the importance of composting. Let's show City Council, the Department of Sanitation and the Mayor how important leaf compost is to our soil, our environment and us… the residents of NYC!

What we are proposing appears at first glance to be rather simple: the U.S. should invite the world’s experts and researchers to the United States to pursue their work and research in the U.S..
We want the leading minds in the alternative energy field working for U.S. companies, studying and teaching in U.S. colleges and universities, and starting business in the U.S., right? However, as a result of the broken immigration system, the U.S. government is actively interfering in the market and preventing the world’s best and brightest from coming to the U.S. to join our industry in developing green energy as quickly and efficiently as possible. Does this make sense?
Let's ask the President and Congress to enact legislation that would encourage the issuance of visas to experts in the field of alternative energy, including visas to work, conduct research, study, innovate, and start business in the US in the field of alternative energy.

We the people demand a choice in our vehicle fuels. We are fed up with high gas prices and our vehicle engines burning gasoline and diesel fuels.
In 1990, Enoch, who is from Africa, was serving as a Domiciled Colonial soldier with a British Air Cavalry unit. The British government operates a program in their former colonies whereby qualified individuals can apply to serve on attachment to the British armed forces and after their service they are returned to their homelands.
Enoch, who is from Zimbabwe, was one of those soldiers and at the time of the Gulf war he was stationed in Germany and had six months left to serve. Although Enoch was not part of the force that was selected to be deployed, he volunteered and served as a pilot in an airborne cavalry squadron throughout the war.
In 1998 at the end of Enoch's reserve duty, Zimbabwe had been taken over by political powers who he had formerly fought against during the war of independence. Seeking a new home, he came to America in the belief that with his history he would be able to find legal status here without any problems. For ten years Enoch has been seeking status in America so far without success.
The NRMA is vocal in their opposition of the development of cycling infrastructure in Sydney and is opposing the use of existing roads by cyclists in Sydney during Peak hours.
Despite the increasing congestion, high fuel prices and climate change, the NRMA continues to attack cycling as an alternative method of personal transport for commuters and recreational users.
Cyclists have every right to use the States roads. Cyclists, as a legitimate road user group, are growing in number in direct proportion to the increasing fuel prices. Clearly, MORE cycling infrastructure is required, not more car lanes.
Most cyclists are also car owners. A great many of these car owning cyclists are NRMA members and IAG customers. I would ask these people to reconsider their position on contributing money to an association that opposes theirs, and their communities' cycling needs.
There is an urgent need to address climate change.
We need better alternative energy solutions to practically reduce road traffic emissions. We are calling for the the government and big business to install up to 200 electric charge points in and around urban areas to help reduce exhaust emissions by making electric vehicle use more accessible.
58. Anti Laser Ban
Laser attacks on aircraft have been increasing to alarming levels lately. There is now talk of imposing bans on portable and handheld laser devices, as the NSW police minister as well as Federal police vow to take action.
The signatories of this petition believe that a blanket ban on laser devices would be unfair and harmful to those who use them in a safe manner.
At present, the Adelaide Hills Council does not provide services for the collection of green waste within the suburb of Greenhill (in South Australia - Postcode 5140).
Given the suburb has relatively high density housing and is in a Bush Fire prone area, it is requested that the Adelaide Hills Council provides these facilities.
The council does provide this service to two suburbs within the council area with similar geography to Greenhill - Woodforde and Teringie - so why not Greenhill?
Residents are currently entitled to an annual voucher for one trailer load to Heathfield or Newton depots and there is limited facilities to dispose of green waste at the CFS Station prior to the start of the bushfire season, however this is not available during the bushfire season for ongoing disposal of leaf litter etc, which is probably the most critical time.
It is requested that Adelaide Hills council investigate & provide either kerbside or centralised collection (perhaps a skip for Green Waste only be placed at the Greenhill CFS Station and emptied periodically by the Council if approved by the Brigade).
The government proposes to destroy the view from every British beach and cliff for generations to come in order to generate uneconomic energy (it will be twice as expensive as gas or nuclear).
The full environmental impact of this plan remains untested but will blight one of our most treasured national assets for the rest of time.
