62. Aussie Soils Suck CO2. Free The Trade in Soil Carbon Credits.

The Carbon Coalition Against Global Warming is a farmers and citizens' movement campaigning to unleash the power of agricultural soils to capture and hold CO2 and hold the line while other emittance reduction technologies come on line.

FACTS:

1. If we stopped emitting CO2 today there is still enough in the atmosphere (the "Legacy Load") to disrupt weather patterns for many years to come, up to 1,000 years. (NASA, Britain's Chief Scientist, Australian Greenshouse Office.)

2. The only way to remove existing CO2 from the atmosphere is photosyntheisis - not nuclear, clean coal, solar, wind, etc

3. It would take 7 planets covered with forests to soak up the CO2 Legacy Load.

4. Deep-rooted native perennial pastures and pasture-cropping can sequester more carbon per acre than an acre of forest.

5. Farmers manage 65% of the terrestrisal surface of the Earth.

6. A 1% increase in soil carbon in 30cm of topsoil soil can translate into
42 tonnes of soil carbon which equates to 154 tonnes of CO2.

7. Australia has 450m hectares of farming land.

8. Mankind emits 8GT CO2-e each year.

9. It would require Australian farmers to achieve a 1% increase in soil carbon on only a fraction of our soils to sequester the entire world's emissions per year.

10. Soils have a specific role to play. They can start acting immediately to soak up CO2, but they saturate with carbon in 20-25 years. IPCC agricultural economist Bruce McCarl of Texas AM University says soil sequestration can start immediately while other technologies take 10+ years in preparation. The world's leading soil carbon authority, Prof. R. Lal, says soils provide the worid with a bridge to the future when alternative technologies can take over.

The Stern Report gave us 10 years to make serious inroads into the Legacy Load of CO2. Only agricultural soils have the capacity, the economy, and the immediate availability to do the job and protect the future from cataclysm.

What will it take to get farmers to change their land management to stop emitting CO2, CH4 and N2O and start sequestering it in their soils? CARBON CREDITS.

64. Campaign for rational global warming debate

Millions of people are accepting global warming thory as simple fact without even glancing at the science. Why? because sensational and apocalyptic predictions are drilled into them day after day, and opponents of the theory are ridiculed and treated like holocaust deniers.

It is very easy for a newspaper to say that by 2050 30% (or 10, 20, 40, 50, 60 or 70%, depending on who you ask) of the world's major coastal cities will be under water, be cause by the time 2050 comes and western civilization has NOT collapsed, everyone will have forgotten the prediction, as people have conveniently forgotten the apocalyptic and sensational predictions of global cooling 40 years ago.

People say nonsense, like global warming is killing 70,000 people every year (or even up to 1,000,000 acoording to some pseudo-scientific scaremongers), but really global warming theory is killing thousands, because in Africa people are, for example, forced to use expensive and inefficient solar panels which prevent them from having enough electricity to move out of devastating poverty.

When, subjected to close scrutiny, the evidence that humans are causing global warmings is very poor. For example it was hotter 1000 years ago (before people had cars or power stations or anything like that) than it is now (note that polar bears didnot become extinct and that all of the world's major cities were not washed away in apocalyptic floods) . Also, consider the fact that rotting leaves produce more CO2 every year than humans. In fact, humans only produce 4% of the world's CO2 emissions, and all of that was once in the atmosphere anyway.

Global temperatures are going up. Fine. They have been changing since the earth began. Has anyone heard of the Ice Age? Anyway, human CO2 emissions are also going up. Fine. That is only to be expected with advances in human civilization. Just because they are happening at the same time does not mean that human CO2 is increasing temperatures. If I plugged my toaster in, and at the exact same moment a comet crashed into Jupiter, would you think that my toaster had caused the crash? No? So why apply the same logic to climate change!

65. More goverment action to stop global warming

Over the years our government has promised to help stop global warming, but they haven't seemed to do anything. They need to do somthing now.

66. America, join the G8 Climate Deal

According to a leaked document, the US Administration has rejected any prospect of a deal on climate change at the G8 summit in Germany next month.

With the abundance of scientific evidence pointing out the negative and lasting consequences of "business as usual", it is important for the US Government to take a leadership role in reducing emissions.

67. Stop Global Warming

People are polluting the air causing the suns rays to get caught in the Earth's atmosphere. The extra heat is melting ice from Antartica causing the water level to rise and in. 50 years time, may kill thousands of people.

The lack of ice will also kill Polar Bears because they don't have ice to rest on in between swims making them exhausted and then drowning. Zoos can't help because these animals are WILD. (Information collected by the DVD "The Inconveient Truth").

68. Label carbon footprint on products

This petition is to have products labeled with their carbon footprint.

When you buy a product from a local store you tend to have a choice between two or three comparable products, usually the imported product is cheaper, but the carbon emissions to create and transport it to the store are much higher.

Wouldn't it be good if when you where at your local grocery store you knew just how much carbon was emitted in importing the apples or T-shirts you where about to buy, so then you could choose the apples or other fruit with the least carbon emissions, or buy a T-shirt that has the least emissions?

If we really want to reduce carbon emissions then we as consumers need to know the true cost of what we are buying, knowledge is power!

69. Keep Melbourne pretty

By now you should be aware of the ‘hot’ issue of global warming. Unfortunately so far not many measures have been taken to do something about climate change.
But climate change is also a global problem that is hard to solve by single countries. Therefore in 1998 the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated in Kyoto, Japan. It requires participating countries to reduce their anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O, HFCs, PFCs, and SF6) by at least 5% below 1990 levels in the commitment period 2008 to 2012.

The Kyoto Protocol was eventually signed in Bonn in 2001 by 186 countries. Several countries such as the UNITED STATES and AUSTRALIA have retreated. It time for a change!

Its time for us to take responsibility for our actions. Make a difference in you own life. Don’t ruin the world you live in, your family and friends live in and the world that your children will have to live in. Demand a change from your government.

I have set up this petition for the people of Melbourne and Australia to speak up. We obviously can’t rely on our politicians as they have once again proven themselves to be useless. Help keep Melbourne pretty. All I ask is for you to show your support. Make your voice count. Make yourself heard and known. Remind the government that they have a moral responsibility. Be part of the solution.

ITS TIME FOR LESS TALK AND MORE ACTION.

70. Make electric cars available in Australia

The Australian Government has deliberately sabotaged attempts to make electric vehicles available to consumers in Australia to protect the oil industry.

While Australians suffer record high petrol prices and the effects of the effects of global warming in our worst droughts ever, our government is delaying the arrival of safe, clean, zero emission battery powered vehicles which can be charged via a standard power point.

Contrary to popular belief, viable private vehicles have been available since 2002 and are being driven by people in Europe and the United States. BEV's are capable of acceleration performance that exceeds gasoline powered vehicles and produce no noise pollution. Mass produced vehicles are safe and affordable. Yet government red tape has prevented their availability to Australians.

The Reva, a family car powered by electricity made in India has sold over 1,800 vehicles around the world since 2001. The Solar Shop in Adelaide has distribution rights and a the vehicle has a competitive retail price of $15,000 AUD, but the government will not let them sell it.

The Xebra, another battery vehicle has sold 200 vehicles in the US since 2006 but is not yet available in Australia but retails for around $13,500 AUD.

Both these vehicles are cheaper to buy than most models of commercial petrol powered vehicles and far cheaper to run than even LPG or ethanol powered cars.

These initiatives are supported in the UK with congestion tax exemptions and also in California.
Meanwhile, Australians are being made to drive vehicles which cost between four to six times as much per kilometre to operate or expensive hybrid cars which are not the ideal solution.

Our nation is the biggest greenhouse polluter in the world per capita, our government is not committed to ratifying Kyoto and transport accounts for over 15% of our total greenhouse emmisions.

Our government is making saving compulsory by superannuation, but not allowing us to save on our basic transport costs.

The Australian government argues that there is no demand for these vehicles, however until the government lets these be sold, how can they know whether there is not demand ? Instead, they continue to encourage LPG conversions and ethanol use as solutions for petrol prices and no solution for greenhouse gas reduction at the same time denying Australians a cheaper alternative.

71. Stop Global Warming

Gloabl warming is being increased and has increased over the years. It is getting worse. We need to stop it.

Within the next 50 years our planet will start to flood and get so hot in the center our artic will possibily melt 50% which will cause 20 feet of water rise in every ocean.

We are causing this with everyday things vehicles, appliances, outlets, energy, electricity and there are several things that can be done to stop this.

72. Stop Global Warming

I cannot convince everyone to help stop global warming, but I know something that can, people say one movie can't change the world, but I think this one will.

I highly reccomend you see this movie, it's called "An Inconvenient Truth". I'd say global warming is the most important issue of anything that has ever happened, more important than terrorists or, well, everything! And anyone that thinks global warming is a load of sh** is a bastard and I hope they die of heat exaustion.

There are all these shows on TV about human life after the year 2100, but if global warming continues and if we don't do anything about it then 2100 is marked as about the time that everyone and everything on Earth will die because the planet is starting to boil! And it will keep getting hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter and it won't stop there it will keep going even if the human race and all other life has been killed off by it, it will keep getting hotter because our self running machines are still there burning up the planet.

Soon earth will be a ball of fire (literally) orbiting around another ball of fire, the Sun, if this hasn't convinced you then why don't you go to the cinema and get a big box of popcorn and a large coke or any other drink you want, maybe a packet of chocolate or anything you want and sit down and watch "An Inconvenient Truth" because it will change your life and anyone's life that watches it.

73. Stop Global Warming Chaos

Recently, Hurricane Catrina hit New Orleans in USA.

At that time, my friend was there. We have no contact with him...

Global Warming caused droughts in Sth England, heat deaths in Spain, forest fires in Portugal, hurricanes in Birmingham and USA and floods spread out around the world.

We MUST do something about global warming... something Now!

74. Reduce Global Warming

After developing and researching a civilian participation project on global warming and it's effect we realized the hazards and dangers that we are currently facing and more to come in the future.

We want your support for advocating our president Mr. Bush to enact the Kyoto Protocol and help the public be aware and educated of the current situation of global warming.

75. Cleaner more ozone friendly energy sources

I know that it is very much need that we start taking more action to help save our ozone layer if we dont do something about this we will have global warming on our hands and everyone will be dead. I propose that we start using more ozone friendly resourses as power instead of fossil fuel. These resourses could include wind power, water power, clean electric power but it sould not be limited to these three. I really think we NEED to do this because if we dont then global warming will kill us all.

I want to live to see many more days without having to worry about this and i think that we sould really start thinking about the big picture: Can we go on doing what we are doing and not have this happen in the possible near future. I hope you take this as seriously as I do because I want are children to have a future.

76. Save the Maldives from global warming

The Maldives are only about 1 meter above sea-level. If nothing is done, they will disappear in 100 years.
Next will come other costal cities - Dublin, London, New York, etc.

We can take the first step towards stopping this by insisting that industrial powerhouses such as the USA ratify the Kyoto protocol. WE MUST ACT NOW.

The Maldives is our poster-child. If we save it, we have saved our own homes.

77. Save the Polar Bears

Every year in Canada the Government allows the legal hunting of Polar Bears by the Inuit people. They are also allowed to sell there hunting rights. Last year 500 polar bears in Canada were lost to this unnecessary hunting. Polar Bears are a "very" threated species and are on the verge of becoming endangered.

They face many threats in todays world such as global warming that melts the ice flows to which they need to hunt from. We need to give them a chance for survival and the continued hunting is not help.

In todays world there is no need to hunt this precious and irreplaceable species. There right to exist far out wieghs any peoples right to huntto hunt them.
