2. Free Detained Liberian Journalist Darlington Pelenah

The Liberia National Police (LNP), acting on behalf of the Government of Liberia, arrested journalist Darlington C. Pelenah on July 29, 2012 and charged him, along with Benjamin Bokie Gbar and William Randolph, with the crimes of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The three were charged based on a complaint by an alleged victim Weeks Thomas that he and two others were held at gun point by the defendants and robbed of US$17,000.00. Weeks Thomas reported that one of his boys, Edwin Thomas was shot in the head by journalist Pelenah on the night of the alleged armed robbery.

Journalist Pelenah and the others were subsequently indicted by a grand jury on 12 counts and have been in detention at the Monrovia Central Prison since their arrest in July 2012.

Since the arrest and detention of journalist Pelenah and co-defendants, their trial has been suspended and postponed several times on flimsy excuses. Many people, including media practitioners, the defendants, and family members believe the repeated suspension and postponement of the trial is a deliberate violation of the right of the defendants to a fair and speedy trial in keeping with due process of law.

The action by the state puts the lives of journalist Pelenah and co-defendants at risk, as armed robbery is a capital office punishable by life imprisonment or death based on its degree.

Journalist Pelenah, Benjamin Bokie Gbar, and William Randolph are now in prolonged detention, crying out for freedom and justice.

Every single document and statement that the police and prosecution have issued so far in relation to the case lacks consistency, relevance and reliability. None of the defendants was arrested on the alleged crime scene. There are no forensic reports or on-the-scene photographs linking the defendants to the commission of the crimes for which they’ve been charged.

Accounts by the alleged victims, which formed the basis for the charges brought against journalist Pelenah and co-defendants, have also been grossly inconsistent.

Since journalist Pelenah’s arrest in July, 2012, the Government of Liberia has had many opportunities to prove its case beyond every reasonable doubt but have failed miserably. The government has employed every known legal trick to delay his trial, ranging from unexplainable postponement and suspension to disbandment of trial jury. By so doing, the Government of Liberia continues to deny him the right to a fair and speedy trial in keeping with due process of law.

Journalist Pelenah and co-defendants have all denied the charges and pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime. And, from all indications, the Government of Liberia does not have a case against and will go to great length to apply every known legal trick to delay their trial and keep them in detention for the rest of their lives.

As the government continues to fail to prove its case beyond all reasonable doubt, we request the unconditional release of journalist Pelenah and co-defendants.

3. Open Carry Alberta, Canada

The Bill of Rights of 1688 contained, as its leading term, the right to bear arms. Back when Canada was technically still under English rule they allowed the citizens the right to bear arms for protection, so why not now?

According to the Canadian Charter of Rights And Freedoms, under the Constitution Act of 1982, under Legal Rights, Section 7; Life, Liberty and Security of Person: "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice." Under Section 12; Treatment or Punishment: "Everyone has the right not to be subject to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment."

When you read those 2 sections of the Canadian Charter of Rights And Freedoms, how can you argue that openly carrying a firearm is not safe? Would people commit crimes if they knew everyday citizens have the ability to stop them? I don't think so. We in Canada have what is called an "Authorization to Carry" license, however, the Provincial Chief Firearm Officers (CFO's) have agreed not to issue such licenses. The law in Canada says you can defend your life with equal force of your attacker, it also says the law acknowledges the possibility of an individual requiring a restricted handgun for protection from other individuals when police protection is insufficient.

It seems as if the government doesn't find human life valuable enough for Canadian citizens to obtain a legal permit to open carry. How can you defend your life with "equal force" if the person threatening your life has a gun & you don't? It seems like a double standard to allow Police, Attorneys, Judges, & Money couriers the right to bear arms for defensive purposes, but as private citizens, we don't have the right to do the same.

4. CLEMENCY for RICHARD DIGUGLIELMO

LETS GET THIS 2ND PETITION EVEN HIGHER

THE COALITION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, LABOR UNIONS, CONCERNED CITIZENS FOR THE RELEASE OF IMPRISONED NYPD OFFICER RICHARD DIGUGLIELMO

We are requesting your support for a clemency application of Richard DiGuglielmo, a veteran of the New York Police Department who was convicted of depraved indifference murder after a series of tragic events in which Officer DiGuglielmo shot and killed a man who had struck Officer DiGuglielmo's father with a metal baseball bat. Additional information about Officer DiGuglielmo and his case is available at http://www.richarddiguglielmo.org/

As you may know Officer DiGuglielmo was convicted of a murder stemming from a 1996 off-duty incident where he effectively saved his father's life. A New York State Supreme Court Justice subsequently released Officer DiGuglielmo in 2008 only for Officer DiGuglielmo's conviction to be re-instated after 20 months of freedom by a NYS Court of Appeals decision. A recent and probably final decision by the United States Court of Appeals has affirmed the NYS Court of Appeals decision. In the courts opinion they effectively stated that Officer DiGuglielmo's gun was a more serious threat than the baseball bat used to strike his Officer DiGuglielmo's father with TWICE! The court further opined, that Charles Campbell lacked intent to use the baseball bat as a deadly weapon because he never struck DiGuglielmo Sr. near the head or other vital area!

Article 35 of the NYS Penal Law effectively states: A person may use physical force upon another person when and to the extent he or she reasonably believes such to be necessary to defend himself, herself or a third person from what he or she reasonably believes to be the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by such other person.

In People v. Talbert, the court held that an object as ordinary as a broom handle could be considered a weapon under the Penal Law if there exist the requisite intent to use the object unlawfully against another. The object in question was a broom handle…in Officer DiGUGLIELMO 'S CASE IT WAS A METAL BASEBALL BAT!

We have effectively come to a point of critical mass in relation to this case. The rulings by the NYS and Federal Appeals Courts in relation to this case have enormous ramifications nationwide for Police Officers, Peace Officers, and Citizens who may have to use deadly physical force. At this point there are no legal options left. We need your support in our effort to petition the NYS Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for clemency. We eagerly await your response.

5. Stop the Execution of Saeed Malekpour, Iranian-Canadian Comp Programmer, Imminent Execution!

Iran is imprisoning and abusing an American pastor because of his faith. Iran, home of one of the world’s most radical Islamic regimes, is holding American Pastor Saeed Abedini because he is a Christian, refusing to release him, and subjecting him to unspeakable abuse.

At the ACLJ, we are launching an international campaign to free Pastor Saeed, and we need Americans to mobilize for religious liberty.

Urge the President, the State Department, and every Member of Congress to take a stand for an American Christian.

7. FREE ADERONKE - Yarl's Wood freedom fighter

Enough is enough! Aderonke Apata is a leader and fighter for women from all over the world and we stand together.

With a deep belief and care for the rights of women to liberty, dignity and respect, Aderonke - a lesbian woman from Nigeria - helped women know how to fight for their rights in Yarl’s Wood. A group of gay women including Aderonke, started a Movement for Justice group to bring women together – lesbian and straight – to tell the world the truth about the brutality of detention, the denial of justice, the mental torture, the lack of real healthcare.

In October 2012 the women witnessed a detainee (Chirstine N) being dragged by male guards screaming and naked through the corridors to be deported. It lead to a protest, in which the a mass meeting was called in the canteen, and Adreonke read out the demands the MFJ group had drafted. The demands told about the terrible conditions in Yarl's Wood, the lack of justice, and added the demand for Christine's return from the airport, and were voted for unanimously. Women in the canteen, and more who were held in the corridors outside - over 200 - took this stand for the dignity and humanity of all.

Aderonke has since been beaten, and moved to a prison on no charge, to separate her from the other women and disrupt their unity.

In Yarl’s Wood there are women of every background: gay and straight, young and old, disabled or ill, pregnant, trafficked, raped, tortured, beaten, forced into marriage, mothers and grand mothers. Being sent back to home countries means being sent into the hands of oppressors and abusers, it is a death sentence.

8. Pledge to Exercise Jury Nullification for Marijuana Arrests

The war on cannabis began in the United States in the early 1900's and has proven to be a failed policy that has shown no progress and has only resulted in the arrests of millions of U.S. citizens and labeled them as "criminals" causing lifelong social consequences, thus exacerbating a problem that belongs in the category of public health and not law enforcement.

Medical marijuana is now legal in 18 states and Washington D.C. and marijuana has been fully legalized in 2 more states. Legalization is overwhelmingly supported by people under the age of 40 who have seen firsthand accounts of the social consequences that result from the arrests of so many people because they use a relatively harmless substance when compared to other potentially harmful substances such as fast food, sodas, alcohol, hard drugs etc.

Congress has continually shown no interest in addressing this issue due to the fact that re-election is more important these days than addressing the real problems that our country faces and they are simply too afraid of being seen as "soft" on drugs even though the public is increasingly sick and tired of wasting resources on this losing battle.

The most common sense way that we, the people, can solve this issue is to use our constitutional right of jury nullification when we are called on to serve in a jury related to potential marijuana convictions.

Sam Lloyd is being deported for a crime he has already served time for. Sam has lived in the U.S. for 25 and knows no other life.

Sam legally entered the U.S. from England when he was 7 years old. Sam's crime was not a violent offense. Nor was it drug related. Sam has a daughter that was born in the U.S. His family is here. He has nothing left for him in England.

11. Stop Forcing School Children What to Eat

Mrs. Obama has been very serious to get children to eat better and healthier school lunches, going as far as trying to regulate what children are forced to eat in school is a violation of human basic freedom of choice.

The social indoctrination is dumbing down children by telling them what they must pick and eat from the lunch cafeteria by masking it by a choice they have to make, have one or the other and no other choice. Does this mean that parents are not able to teach their children what is good for them? Is the Government the way to go that knows what is best for us?

Don’t misunderstand this petition, we are not trying to remove healthy foods from school cafeteria, but our children should be able to choose whether they want to get vegetables, fruits or neither. Dictating a child to pick one or the other is not a choice but coerce a child to do something against their will, another form of indoctrination by giving a “choice”; a painted illusion of freedom of choosing not the children’s term or their own free will. When the government gets involved with people’s affairs there is always money wasting, abuse, stifling peoples freedom/rights, and corruption. If you force someone to take the vegetable or fruit without a third choice they will end up in the trash, needless to say that is money wasted that can be used for other educational purpose. What is next? Have a “garbage police” to ensure the children will eat and not waste the vegetables or fruits.

The government has grown crafty by painting a picture that we have freedom but what people don’t understand is the government is manipulate people through fear and other tactics. Here is one good example, 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Patriot Act was initiated and our privacy rights were taken for the good of “freedom” aka “Freedom through Fear Tactics”. The new fear is child obesity that needed to be addressed and force a child to eat what the big government says is best for them. This is another right and freedom a child/human being no longer has to enjoy, needless to say, one less parent right to educate their child on what is healthy or not.

Our concern is that the United States of America has started to become more like a Nanny State since the cold war has been over. Our freedom have been under constant attack not by enemy forces but by the malignant cancer that the government have formed by systematically taking our freedom away with fear tactics, dividing people in many labeled groups, i.e. liberals, conservatives, religious fanatics, crazies, encouraging and advocating multiculturalism, and no assimilation. This is the best way to keep all Americans dumbed down and divided therefore the government will not fear people because we are not one voice but many confused people running around like “a chicken with its head cut off”.

13. No Chabad, No donations

It has come to light that Northwestern University is severing its ties with the Tannenbaum Chabad House. During a meeting this July with Vice President of Student Affairs Patricia Telles-Irvin, he was told to “resign from [his] position at Chabad House and leave Evanston,” and that if he did not heed this warning, that Northwestern would end its association with him and Chabad house.

The University’s stated reason, having to do with violations of Northwestern’s alcohol policies, has yet to be backed by any proof or evidence. Despite the unfounded nature of these claims, Rabbi Klein is now cut off from the Northwestern community. It is likely that he will be forced to leave his posts as faculty adviser at Alpha Epsilon Pi, faculty fellow at the Communications Residential College, and University chaplain. As a result, this page was made to support Rabbi Klein’s struggle to stay a part of Northwestern’s community.

The University’s decision to end its relationship with Chabad House and Rabbi Klein will have a purely negative impact on not just the Northwestern Jewish community, but also the Northwestern community as a whole. As a university chaplain, Rabbi Klein worked to foster understanding between faith groups across campus, while as a faculty adviser/fellow at Alpha Epsilon Pi and the Communications Residential College he has improved the lives of countless students with his wisdom and experience at Northwestern. In addition to these University posts, Rabbi Klein also lobbied for the creation of the kosher station at Allison, where students who keep kosher, halal, or simply enjoy eating kosher food can eat as a part of their University meal plan.

However, Rabbi’s accomplishments go far beyond his various posts at Northwestern. The Tannenbaum Chabad House is not just a normal house; it is a second home for Northwestern’s Jewish students, as well as a place of prayer, celebration, meditation, and happiness. Similarly, Rabbi Klein is not just a Rabbi or chaplain; he is a role model, an adviser, a mediator, a teacher, and most importantly a friend, who has positively influenced students, both Jewish and non-Jewish, over the past 27 years.

Northwestern’s disassociation will bring his nearly three decades of service to Northwestern to a screeching halt, making it much more difficult to continue his great and noble work at Northwestern and in the Evanston community. Join this page to show your support for Rabbi Klein and his struggle to stay a part of the Northwestern community.

15. STAND WITH MIGUNA; STAND FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Miguna Miguna, former adviser to Prime Minister Raila Odinga on matters of the coalition government, has written a book called Peeling Back the Mask that is critical of his ex-boss.

Over the last few months since the book came out, we've witnessed a brazen attempt to silence Mr. Miguna, with supporters of Raila Odinga resorting to violence against Miguna and even his family.

Prime Minister Odinga has not spoken to his followers to urge restrain and neither has President Mwai Kibaki acknowledged that we're witnessing a fundamental infringement on a citizen's right to free speech in broad daylight.

It's a upon you to lend your voice to this. Whether or not you agree with Miguna, please sign this petition. This level of intolerance has no place in a democracy;

17. Support the Freedmans

To whom it may concern,

My name is Mike Freedman. I am a husband, and a father of two girls under the age of 7. Through a series of events, I became disabled with nerve damage in my lower back and left leg. I am consequently left unable to walk a single step or stand. The intense pain I feel every minute of every day is only mildly kept down by a host of drugs, most of which are morphine based.

Due to my disability and its nature, I have been privileged to have been loaned a car under the Uk’s Motability scheme. Thanks to this my life and thus my family’s life, has been greatly improved. I am able to get to appointments, get hospital attention when I need it, see my friends, visit my family and basically – have a life.

As it is the end of the car’s lease, it has to go back. It is normal procedure, however, that towards the end of the lease you ensure that another Motability car lease is in place to enable continuity of service. We, however were told a few months ago by Motability that although they would allow me to have another car, they would not let my wife drive it due to Motability not willing to insure her. So far, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to reinstate my wife. My wife is my main carer and driver and we so desperately need her back with a car as life without this necessity is unthinkable.

We are looking for support from the community in the hope of getting Motability and their insurers RSA to revoke their decision. We are looking to get as many signatures / emails as possible. Every single offer of support is exactly what we urgently need as the car is due to go back this Friday (27/07).

Thanking you in advance,

Mike Freedman

18. No To The Veil

The journalist Ali Mahmoud Othman was born in 1978. He worked as a vegetable-seller prior to the revolution. Ali joined the revolution from the start, he protested and then joined the media side which included filming protests and the events taking place.

Some of the strongest clips Ali took with his camera, was actually the first video of the shelling - he speaks saying "Baba Amr is being shelled ... Where are you oh Arabs!"

His life was at risk twice as he was present both times the Baba Amr media centre got shelled.

The first time the Baba Amr media office was shelled: Ali Othman is present and speaks clearly saying "turn off the live stream, they have found out where we are"

Ali Othman was involved in helping the injuries and carrying them to safety during the attack on the Baba Amr media office:

A statement from the Baba Amr media centre team:

The media journalist Ali Mahmoud Othman from the media office of Baba Amr has been detained in Aleppo. Ali Othman was forced to flee Baba Amr to Aleppo after the regime stormed the neighborhood. We, the media office, are calling on all human rights organisations across the world, as well as the Federation of Arab Journalists and the United Nations to interfere immediately to save the life of the journalist and activist Ali Othman who is being subjected to the worst forms of torture since his arrest. We place full responsibility on the Syrian Assad regime for any harm caused to the journalist Ali Othman. Ali, the journalist, helped with the procedure of removing injuries from the besieged neighborhood to safety and treatment and played a large role in saving the lives of the following journalists:

Edith Bouvier
Paul Conroy
William Daniels
Javier Espinosa

Ali was also known to the media who entered the neighborhood of Baba Amr prior to it's storming. Ali was involved in taking them around on tours of the neighborhood and accompanied them to many parts of it.

The journalist Ali Othman also subjected himself to great danger as he conveyed the massacre of the journalists to the Arab and international media after the Baba Amr media office was shelled with missiles in minutes.

Marie Colvin
Remi Ochlik

Ali also risked his life in helping aid the activists inside the media office and the other journalists who were present during the attack.

23. FREE THE MOROCCAN JOURNALIST RACHID NINI

The arrest of Rachid Nini was unfair as it was clearly a political message of punishment sent by those who wish anything but to see Morocco develop into a truly democratic and modern country.

By attacking one of the freest and boldest voices in the Moroccan national media, some public are deeply challenging the spirit of reforms initiatives undertaken by the Moroccan highest authority.

It is totally incomprehensible and just wrong to witness in the twentieth century especially in Morocco, a journalist that stands for values of freedom and justice, being pursued under the criminal code while the profession has its own code, the code of the press that governs it.

The Moroccan authorities had the option of conducting any kind of investigation related to Rachid Nini under the press code without having to take him in custody and treat him as a common criminal.

Rachid Nini was accused of “criticizing the head of the Moroccan security services” and “locating the secret detention center of Temara” and therefore charged with “representing a threat to national security”.
It’s clear that the Moroccan law is crying out for some serious reforms: criticizing security services should not be considered a violation of law, especially when the purpose of doing so is to enlighten the public opinion in the context of transparency and good governance.

The historic royal speech of March 9th was warmly welcomed by other countries, who admired Morocco’s initiative of changing into a more democratic system without any bloodshed or major revolution. In fact, many signs led to believe that Morocco has truly entered the era of change through anti corruption control, a new architecture of human rights, as well as the release of several political prisoners. However, the arrest of Rachid Nini and the serious accusations and the unfair sentence is clearly showing the influence of some key figures who are trying at all costs to prevent the positive change from taking place for fear of losing their personal acquisitions or comfortable positions.

In Morocco Rachid Nini is famous for being one of the few courageous voices in the media, daily reporting in his column "tchouf tchouf" the injustice, repression and the corruption within the government.

His custody was simply due to the publication of numerous articles in which he has published information on Hammouchi Abdellatif, Head of the Moroccan National Security. His articles also criticized the abuses suffered by detainees kept in the secret detention center. His columns also attacked corruption in the judicial system. Also, among the charges held against him was his request the authorities to repeal the anti-terrorism law.

Rachid Nini was pursued under the criminal law instead of the press code that should have been applied but was unfortunately put aside for political reasons.

On January 19th 2011, Rachid Niny, received the 2012 Oxfam Novib/PEN Award honoring his courage in journalism.

24. Cape secession from South Africa

The Western Cape has existed as a province of South Africa since it was coerced into the union in 1910. Since then oppressive legislation such as Apartheid, BEE and many more brought on by both the NP and the ANC. We have finally had enough!

Experts have surmised that not only is the Cape economically viable to survive on its own, it would also become much more successful. Cape governments have also proven that they are much more capable of governing the Cape than the current regime.

The Cape does not only desire to secede, it needs to. If we are to create a better society, we need to do it within a new nation: a Cape Federation.

25. SONE and ELF Peace

We all know that Super Junior and Girls' Generation have a wonderful relationship between them, but their fans, SONE and ELF not.

They fight if they don't win the award, when a Suju member or a Soshi member talk to each other, but the one who started the fanwar are the TROLLS. So please, can't we just stop the war and start our relationship new?

And anyways, all other people hear always bad things about out relationship and it is bad for us too, they don't want to join the fandom because they hear they fight a lot...

Don't you want to fight together? SM entertainment together? Super Generation together? You all know that Super Junior and Girl's Generation are the most successful k-pop group, but when we work together we will be unreachable.

27. Do You Support The Nelson BC Occupy Camp & Movement?

Occupy Nelson started as a community response to the call for world wide action in solidarity with thousands of Occupy camps around the world to demand the end of global economic injustice.

As corporations record massive profits, more and more of us are in debt, living pay check to paycheck, are unemployed or underemployed, living in shelters or on the street. At the same time governments are gutting social services and refusing to protect the environment. We are in unity with the growing consensus that the top 1% of the world should not control and dominate the remaining 99%! We are all the 99%!

Recently, as there has been pressure to close down the encampments all over Canada, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association has sent out a press release stating that "Freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association are core democratic rights that are protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Without robust protection for these rights, many other rights become meaningless."

We believe we must allow the movement and the camp to continue in order defend the rights of all Canadians.

29. Defend Constitutional Government

It is the civic duty of every citizen to hold their government accountable when it betrays the public trust and when it demonstrably fails to exercise its prescribed powers. When those elected behave as though they are above the law and abandon their Oath of Office to uphold and defend the Constitution, it remains for the people to demand justice for the wrongs committed against them.

The Indian Trail Town Council, and staff, have continued to engage in unethical, unlawful, immoral, and illegal actions. The following list of offenses provides sufficient probable cause to investigate the culture of corruption that pervades local government, which endangers the people's unalienable rights to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The intent of this petition is to begin the process of restoring an open and transparent government to the Town of Indian Trail, North Carolina.

English version
-------------------------------------------
At this very moment, Sara Marta Fonseca has a pending case open (file number 12-854-2011) against her for "attempt" against a paramilitary official of the Castro regime. This accusation automatically contradicts and disproves the claim of the Cuban government that it was "a group of everyday people" who attacked Fonseca and her family. Instead, it clearly proves that the oppressors are government political police agents dressed in civilian clothing. She was arrested on September 24th along with her husband and other members of the Cuban resistance. Currently, Sara Marta is suffering from serious health complications, as she has been severely beaten and cannot even rise from bed. International support and solidarity is necessary in order to achieve the unconditional freedom of Sara Marta Fonseca Quevedo, her husband Julio Ignacio Leon, and all those prisoners unjustly locked up in the Cuban gulags or those activists who are constantly watched and spied upon, just for peacefully protesting against the regime.
