1. Request for Combined Service Medal 
Soldiers receive a good conduct and long service medal after 22 years of service, the police, fire service all have their equivalent, however what happens to someone who serves 22 years or more in a combination of these services ? They are awarded nothing.
Should there not be a combined service medal available to those that carry out their duties with a good record for 22 years are more ? I think they should be rewarded like all the others....
2. Save Smethwick Fire Station
The West Midlands Fire Service has announced plans to close Smethwick Fire Station.
Local residents and councillors say that the closure would leave Smethwick without its own dedicated fire station: this would lead to slower response times to fires, risking both lives and property.
John Spellar MP has said:-
“There had been a previous reorganisation in the Fire Service and we had all expected and hoped that the Service could now settle down. Now out of the blue the Fire Service Management announced further closures. Yet Smethwick has a high number of ‘at risk properties’ and many industrial premises. These proposals are unacceptable and I hope residents will unite against them.”
‘LIFE-THREATENING’ plans to cut the jobs of eight full-time staff who man South Devon’s only hydraulic firefighting platform have been condemned by MPs and hoteliers as well as firefighters and their officers.
Firefighters say the round of cuts, aimed at saving the newly-formed Devon and Somerset service £1million, will put lives at risk and substantially reduce their ability to tackle major high-building incidents quickly and efficiently with its ‘Bronto’ appliance.
