1. Improve Cycling Facilities at La Trobe University

The condition of cycling facilities at La Trobe University has been too low for too long. Often cyclists who arrive on campus will not be able to find adequate or secure shelter for the their bikes, and are frustrated by the general lack of other facilities and support.

Only 2% of students currently cycle to university, far fewer than those who live close enough to do so. The La Trobe Student Union believes that the University must do more to improve the quality of facilities for cyclists, and attract more students to choose to ride to university.

This is also in the interests of students for whom riding is not a viable option, as increased cycling will reduce pressure on the parking and tram systems.

2. Build A Better Tomorrow, Today

The Christ Holy Sanctified Churches of America, Inc. came into existence in the year of 1910 under the leadership of the late Bishop Judge and Sarah King. Following their succession we have had many leaders but few visionaries. Many discussions have been made about building our own National Headquarters Facility(ies).

The supporting body has given but seen no fruit of their seeds. This is the season for growth and change. Many co-laboring organizations (C.O.G.I.C., P.A.W., Baptist, etc.) have unified to build something that belongs to them... we should be no different- WE ARE NO DIFFERENT!

3. Protecting the elderly in our community

The closure of the Beacon Court sheltered housing scheme has caused many people a wide range of problems and raised a number of wider issues. This action was carried out by the Riversmead Housing Association without any noticeable consideration of the views of the community of Hertford Heath.

The Parish Council has had discussions with East Herts Council officers and there seems to be a danger that Riversmead can do "whatever they want” with the properties and land they own and manage as long as they meet their overall target for the whole of the East Herts District.

They are a very large property owner and have the ability to change communities at their fingertips, as the closure of Beacon Court has shown, without any explanation. We ask you to support our petition to our elected body, East Herts District Council, to urge them to put in place effective measures that prevent this from happening.

4. Opposition to Genesis/Acre Lane - proposed development

We, the local community, would wish that any further developments on Acre Lane (in particular the proposed development of the existing Fulham Timber Site - Acre Lane 176-184) would heed the views of residents and instead of seeking to cram more social/affordable housing into this area, develop the area so as to provide additional amenities and services to the local community.

We have already succeeded in stopping BYS building yet more (and unused) storage facilities and seek to stop Genesis from building housing when there is already a surplus of vacant accommodation in the area and a lack of decent facilities/amenities for the exisiting local community (ie shops, green spaces, community spaces, schools).

We, the residents living in the area around Frampton Road, Hounslow, call upon Transport for London to provide a bus link to our area with a regular bus service being provided along the length of Frampton Road.

Residents currently have a lengthy walk to the nearest bus stop, and many families are dependent on public transport to provide access to work, school, shopping, health facilities and leisure activities.

6. I'on Club Reform

Over the last five years there have been numerous changes in management, personnel and levels of service at the I'on Club. This last year the changes have resulted in an increase in overall dissatisfaction among members both pool and tennis.

Lack of services including reducing staff and shortening hours of operation. No new merchandise(clothing) in the pro shop. The overall condition of the facility has degraded to an unacceptable level. The playing conditions of the tennis courts has fallen to a level of concern to the point were player safety is an issue.

Overall maintenance of the facilities are generally poor and in comparison to many other similar facilities an embarrassment to the members.

8. Student’s Right to use the Campus our Tuition and Tax Dollars Built at the U of U

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it." ~Plato

A group of approximately 25 students of all races, nationalities and ethnicities, was recently denied access to soccer fields located near the HPER buildings to play “The Worlds Beautiful Game”, soccer, on a late Thursday evening. The students were also warned that security would be called if they proceeded to use the empty soccer field.

The reason’s for denial of use of the field that were stated in a brief conversation with an administrator at the College of Health, the College responsible for the field, were that the students did not reserve the field, but also did not pay $30 an hour to utilize the field.

It is interesting to note that in years past, this fee was not applied to anyone who used these fields but is now being done so due to recent budget cuts. Ironically, all 25 of the students could have swiped their U-cards to use the heated indoor pool inside the HPER complex or have gone to the Field House to play basketball, lift weights, or play indoor soccer. The students would not have been charged further to use those facilities.

It quickly became apparent the ‘Mandatory Fee’s’ that are addendum to students tuition did not cover this field. Rudimentary research to ascertain what the ‘Mandatory Fees’ that accompany the tuition are quickly shows that these fee’s go to: ‘ASUU Activity, Athletic, Building, Collegiate Reader Program, Computing, Fine Arts, Utilities, Health, Library, Publication Council, Recreation, Study Abroad, Sustainability, and Transportation budgets.’ In light of the highlighted budgets, it would seem evident that use of the soccer fields is a fundamental right that students garner when attending this institution

This denial of campus grounds is far more egregious after contacting the city and county about their reservation policies and charges on the use of their soccer fields, softball fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts and discovered that the city and county do not charge for use of their facilities, even in this economic recession. In addition, BYU does not force their students to reserve and pay to use campus ground.

To add to this incendiary act, the group of students was of an international origin, making this denial of use an international disgrace. Despite being a large commuter campus, student life of all forms should be supported; especially those activities that are constructive and healthy in nature. In light of student fee’s paid, burdening students further with financial obligations to play something that is otherwise free elsewhere is in principal a folly and sinister in nature, especially since one of the fields is in near unplayable condition,

9. Say No to Any Budget Cut over 8% to Social and Human Services in Illinois

Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois has proposed a budget for the state that will result in cuts of 20-50% for social and human service programs. These cuts will affect the population of developmentally disabled adults and children in the state, resulting in the closing of many community residential facilities, day training sites, closing of workshops, and community services which allow them to live independently. These cuts will ultimately result in many individuals becoming either homeless or warehoused in a large institution.

The cuts not only affect their livelihood, but also impact the employees that work at these facilities, workshops, day training sites, case management, etc. These people will lose their jobs, impacting entire households and furthering the burden on the unemployment and welfare programs of this state. Furthermore, the closing of these facilities, workshops, day trainings will be detrimental to the small communities these facilities reside.

The income and spending of these facilities will no longer occur at the local gas station, grocery store, McDonald's, etc. Everyone will lose if these cuts go into effect.

These facilities are already struggling to stay afloat because the state is 6 + months behind on paying their reimbursement rates. These facilities have to borrow from banks to stay afloat, therfore incurring huge interest charges that they will not be reimbursed. Last year the state failed for months to make payments to these facilities, and then suddenly paid up the back payments in December (just in time to be taxed).

Illinois citizens are tired of the government manipulations, games, ridiculous pork projects that are attached to human lives and welfare of our communities.

11. Support the fencing of Redcar Town facilities at the Trunk Rd

As part of the development of Redcar Town JFC, new facilities are being build at the Trunk Rd playing fields. This development includes fencing off the allotted are of the palying fields. However, there is a campaign to stop the fence being erected a the Trunk Road.

The club has contacted Neil Russell, a Redcar Council official, who has confirmed that this is true. Neil is slightly concerned as he has only received negative letters /emails from local residents regarding the erection of the fence.

To counter act this we need to send emails / Letters of support for the fencing, obviously letters from local residents surrounding the Trunk road would be ideal, however support from anyone who will use the site would help support the erection of the fence.

The obvious benefits of the Fence are -

    Promotes safety for children;

    Stops irresponsible dog owners letting dogs foul in areas children will play;

    Stop unsupervised dogs from harassing players and destroying equipment;

Stops youths on motor bikes riding across pitches when children are playing.

13. A Pledge for Additional Federal, State and Local Oversight of Job Corps Facilities

How can we not see the possibility of our youth rights being violated at these Job Corps Facilities.

It is our responsibility to put pressure on our federal government to force them to move these facilities out of rural areas or revamp their current policies of oversight. It is crucial that we do this, it's not enough to say what we've done, we must profess what we are doing! We cannot allow this to become another TYC, its simply not acceptable we seen problems leading up to the scandal and Job Corps bears a painful resemblence.

With youth living on a facility in a rural area were their away from the comfort of family life, in which state and local governments have no jurisdicition. Therefore little oversight takes place.

We must act, sign the petition below so that we may prevent another national tragedy!

15. Unite the Clubs Petition to City of Edinburgh Council

For more than 60 years, Edinburgh’s community-based facilities for football and other traditionally low-entry cost sports have been allowed to deteriorate to a truly shocking level.

Changing facilities are typically out of date, substandard, neglected, damp, unhygienic and at times hazardous.

Many pitches are badly drained, rutted and verge on unplayable for large parts of the year as a result of poor maintenance. Goal posts are often bent or broken.

Despite their shortcomings, pitches and facilities are also expensive to hire. Facilities based on school premises are costly to hire too, and at times difficult for community-based clubs to gain access to.

A number of community-based clubs, run entirely by volunteers, would be keen to develop their own facilities in return for long-term leases, but have been unable to do so. Many of our clubs are simply struggling to survive.

For this situation to be allowed to continue at a time when Edinburgh is trying to assert itself as one of Europe’s most active cities is insupportable.

Clubs across the Capital and throughout the Eastern Region have finally decided that enough is enough and that it's time to do something to stop the rot.

This petition will be delivered to the City of Edinburgh Council, City Chambers during the course of the Unite the Clubs march through Edinburgh City Centre at 1:30pm on 14th February 2007.

18. Legalize Airsoft in Singapore

Airsoft is a sport that is fun and legal.

Although it can cause severe injuries, Singaporeans should be sensible - play with protective gear like vests. The new generation of Singapore is changing.

The fundamental difference in airsoft and normal shooting ranges is that we all want to have a weapon to call it our own and play against each other.
Hence it is pointless to go to a range, spend money to shoot targets and go home.

The Singapore Government should make protective gear a necessary equipment for airsoft. And airsoft matches should have referees to supervise and ensure no foul play.

I believe the Singapore government can allocate several places for airsoft.
It has to be spacious. Abandoned buildings need not be demolished, it can re-converted into an airsoft facility. Warehouses are a good place as they are far from the public, so as to prevent any accidents between players and the public.

All airsoft weapons would have a ORANGE BARREL TIP as some countries have done. The ORANGE TIP is to acknowledge authorities upon Customs that this is not a real weapon.

After clearing Customs, all weapons would have to be transported from the Customs to the armory under armed guard, so as to ensure the weapon was not tampered by the owner until delivery at the airsoft facility.

All items related to airsoft should be transferred this way. Owners should NOT be allowed to increase their firing velocity, but allowed to upgrade things like a laser scope or a better handgrip. They should order through either the Airsoft Facility staff or online purchasing. Custom officers can check the address of the item, to ensure the address is that of the airsoft facility and not their home address. They should also be allowed to confiscate any upgrades which will increase the firing velocity.

Owners should be allowed to take home the weapon WITHOUT some part of the firing mechanism or the plastic pellets.
All weapons will be checked for the removal of the firing mechanism before exiting and owners should be checked to confirm that they do not conceal it or pellets. The parts should be sealed and labelled with the owner's name, and safely secured at the airsoft facility lockers.

Foreigners who have their own rifles in their own countries would probably like to bring them over if they have to work in Singapore.

They should send their rifles to Singapore, and have it checked at the Singapore Customs. The firing velocity must be between a range of 100 FPS - 280 FPS, the usual for stock rifles. After clearing customs. Their weapons must be delivered to the designated airsoft facilities.

It has already been confirmed that airsoft rifles CANNOT be changed to a real firearm. Even if robbers try to use these airsoft weapons to rob banks, they would have to consider the high probability of getting shot and killed.

Since airsoft is quite popular in other countries, i believe many foreigners would consider coming to Singapore to try out the new airsoft facilities. Economically speaking, if Singapore managed to have superb facilities, it would most certainly be a place to visit for airsofters, hence it would benefit both Singaporeans and foreigners.

Banning things like chewing gum are ok. They cause trouble. But Airsoft does not, with strict rules and regulations, i don't see why airsoft should be banned in Singapore.

Please make airsoft legal.

19. Reform Canadian Aquatic facilities

PLEASE: Forward this to all your friends and e-mail a signed copy to oldsdidsbury.threehills@assembly.ab.ca

My sister lost her son due to the low numbers of lifeguards on gaurd. He was only 8 years of age. Please keep in mind this is to save your kids and yourself and family from going through this too.

To my Honorable MLA in protest;

We need your help and assistance. Recently we have been made aware of the policies outlined by The Lifesaving Society, with regards to the recommended ratio of lifeguards to bathers within public aquatic facilities. Currently, as there is no official legislation, these are the recommendations for all public aquatic facilities. The following chart shows their recommendations:

Number of Bathers Number of Lifeguards
1-75.................................1
75 -150..............................2
151-275..............................3
276-400 .............................4
401-550..............................5
551-700..............................6
701-1000.............................7

Note: These numbers were developed at the time when a typical public aquatic facility was a single rectangular swimming pool, usually 10m to 13m wide by 25m long (approx. surface area of 250m2 - 350m2). Most new pools do not conform to this basic shape and also most new pools include a separate jacuzzi pool, a separate wadding pool and waterslide facilities. In many cases the above ratios are not adequate to provide effective supervision for all users within the aquatic facility.

This puts all bathers at an unnecessary risk. We need to enhance public safety at our aquatic facilities. There needs to be legislation governing the operation of these facilities and the lifeguard to bathers ratios. The current guidelines have not been changed since 1985.

Please commit to prioritizing public safety at our aquatic facilities.

20. YMCA Operating Hours

April 23, 2006

The members of the Jefferson City area YMCA have seen the facilities hours of operation be cut back the last two years.

We accepted the early closings between Memorial day and Labor day since the pool was open and staffed for use in the evening. The first cut was closing at 5:00 pm on the weekends from April 1st to October 31st. April, May, September, and October are times when the facility get a lot of late day use.

When the facility posted the head count spreadsheets, you could see the facility closed at a peak use time. These facility use tabulations are no longer posted. Starting this year the facilities are starting to close early on a week night.

We find this practice un-acceptable to the membership. The YMCA is a haven for youth to give them a place to go and play sports. It keeps children off the streets and gives them a positive recreational environment. This does not occur when the doors are locked.

21. Remove Seating Facilities for Concerts at S’pore Indoor Stadium

February 7, 2006

This is a Petition to request for action on the removal of seating facilities for Rock & Pop concerts (S'pore Indoor Stadium).

I attended my very first rock concert in my teenage years. In my opinion, it was one of the best concerts that ever took place in S'pore. The energy exuded by the 1000+ fans were truly an amazing sight. It was a METALLICA Concert & at that time, they were one of the hottest Metal Bands around (& they still are!!).

Although I absolutely enjoyed the unforgettable event... but what disappointed me utterly was the inclusion of seating facilities. I was extremely surprised (or rather, Shocked!) that there actually were seats for a Rock concert. What a Travesty it was.

The seats were absolutely redundant & a major obstacle for the fans to have a great time. For Goodness sake... this is a ROCK Concert. Nobody will ever seat down during a Rock Concert.
I really do not comprehend the reason for placing seats in the main arena. I did not pay $150 to seat down at concert events. Apparently, everybody were not utilising the seats at all.
The fans were either standing or using the seats as standing-stools (including myself & my friends).

In 2001, I attended the COLDPLAY/TRAVIS Concert. The concert was excellent, but the seats (again!) were a major disappointment. Then there were also ushers demanding fans to take their seats. This is unacceptable as those at the rear will not be able to see their favourite band perform because the fans in the front were standing up & obstructing the view.

Hence, those fans behind have to stand on the seats to enjoy the concert & get their money's worth. The concert tickets cost over a $100 each & i bought 4 tickets for my friends so we would have a enjoyable night.
However, we were deprived of having good clean fun.

I understand the need to have seating facilities for shows/films, theatrical performances & plays as i do attend these events as well. (eg. Cirque du Soleil, Cabarets, etc )
Nowadays whenever there are any concerts (like the upcoming Franz Ferdinand & OASIS concert), i would think twice about spending money to attend the event where i have to mandatorily take a seat to enjoy the concert.

I'm very sure many others out there would share my exact sentiments.
Thus, I write this petition to appeal to the authorities & organisers to remove the seating facilities for all Rock/Pop Concerts in the future.
I always believe this action will undoubtedly please all fans & concert go-ers.

Furthermore, more eager fans would not hesitate to buy tickets to see their favourite artistes/bands perform.
This will definitely be a win-win situation.

The cost of setup would be lower as there will be significantly less maintenance of the seats & manpower to arrange the seats prior to the event.
Please do your part & sign the petition to put a halt to all these unreasonable decisions to place seats in the arena.

Kindly send this petition to all your friends & relatives who believe in this cause as well.

On completion of the signature inputs, this petition will be sent to all relevent authorities pertaining to concert events organisation. (Ministry of Information & The Arts, SISTIC, etc). Thank you very much for your kind & generous support.

Yours Sincerely,
Kenneth Fan Kei Lim

25. Spare South Parade From The Developers

In June 2004, the Skegness Standard and the Skegness Target newspapers revealed that ELDC is consideringre-developing the south foreshore in Skegness, Lincolnshire. This would result in the loss of the Southern Boating Lake, Fairy Dell, Putting Greens, Pitch and Putt and the Crown Bowling Greens.

These facilities may not be used as much as they should, but it is felt that ELDC has neglected this traditional and tranquil part of the town. The Boating lake, with it's tiered terracing could be brought back to its ownwith the reintroduction of firework displays, and by possibly installing some sort of sound system, live performers could provide music etc from the island. The Fairy Dell holds a sentimental place in many people's hearts as they spent time there as kids playing in the pool surrounding the wonderfully ornate fountain. This is where kids can play safely away from potentially dangerous tidal conditions.

As for the Pitch and putt, not many visitors venture that far down South Parade because there is no adequate signage making it obvious that such a facility exists.

Not everybody comes to Skegness for all the thrills and spills that the continuously developing central and north foreshore provide. Many people visit for a rest, a bt of relaxation, and this is where the more genteel southern foreshore comes into it's own - there is no other part of town that offers such a refuge. If maintained well, this area could be very attractive, and a credit to Skegness.

26. 3 strike law, better food and sleeping status in both men's & women's institutions

My Petition is Threefold - I am petitioning for the Govenor of California to appeal Proposition 184- the 3 strike law took effect first in Washington Dec, 1993 then in 1994 in California a mandatory 25- life sentence, which in My opinion is utterly ridiculous for it is exactly the old term a stiff sentence which does not prevent crime nor liberate anyone it just causes the institutions to be over populated, only way these men and women can be free from commiting crime is to have their heart and mind renewed in God, they need to be healed from the root cause of why they chose to commit such crime.

My second petition is that the Men and Womens' institution facilities would serve and prepare better food for the inmates, I've heard for over 2 decades now about the poor quality of meals served in these facilities and most of the time the inmates do not even know what you all some of the food now that's bad, they may have errored or accused of one against the law but their nature do not change, for they are still human beings who need proper nutritional meals for the body, My last petition is that something be done about the inmates having to sleep on the floors of the facilities and I came up with in Idea to implement against this problem which is addressed in another letter to our Governor of California and at this time this concludes My Petion.

28. Carrollton, Texas Public Skate Park

Dear Mr. Mayor and Council Members:

It has become apparent that there is NO WHERE in Carrollton for kids to skate. It is presently illegal for skaters to use any public or private side walk or hand rail.

In-line skating and skate boarding are legitimate sports and provide adolescent boys and girls with a fun, harmless and focused activity, in much the same way that baseball and football do. Skating also keeps them from other, not so positive, activities.

Since Carrollton is able to provide more than adequate facilities for baseball, football, tennis, golf, swimming and soccer, why have we not addressed facilities for this growing population of skaters? A place for them to skate would keep them from breaking laws, eliminate man power to police public areas, stop grinding on hand rails and stop waxing curbs, which are all the reasons they are not permitted to use public property now.

We, the residents signed below, request that an OUTDOOR PUBLIC SKATE PARK be built to accommodate in-line skating, skate boarding, grinding and ramp jumping.

30. End Live Animal Exports from Australia

June 26, 2003

While death and suffering has been endemic throughout the history of the live export industry, Australia's relentless drive to expand its market for 'live exports' has resulted in a corresponding increase in casualties associated with the long-haul overseas trade in live cattle over the past 7 years.

With the resumption of the live sheep trade with Saudi Arabia in 2000, there are now even larger numbers being exported to the Middle East.

After the stress of transportation, all the surviving cattle and sheep face death on foreign soil, many into countries which have no animal welfare laws or, at best, inadequate laws.

They will usually be killed without pre-stunning and often even without adequate restraint facilities. Animals Australia has eye-witness harrowing accounts of slaughter facilities and methods.

The result is inherent and persistent suffering.
