1. Stop the Blackout of WTHR to Dish Network
Dispatch Broadcasting wants to charge Dish Network a 350%+ price increase to carry their channels! Dish refuses to pass that fee on to their customers so they have declined Dispatch broadcasting's offer and now Dispatch Broadcasting has blacked out WTHR, Indianapolis' NBC affiliate.
Dispatch Broadcasting and WTHR claim that the consumers aren't losing out because we can acquire their signal for free with a digital antenna. This is NOT true as many people, including myself, get every channel but WTHR! They also claim that we can stream it online, and yes we can, but I for one am hearing impaired and there are no captioning options for streaming live TV.
Dispatch Broadcasting is putting greed over providing for their loyal viewers. They may be trying to punish Dish Network, but in the end its only the customers who lose out!
Dispatch Broadcasting runs free over the air channels and wants a huge price increase for a FREE channel! These channels are filled with commercials and advertisement which should MORE than provide enough income for them!
2. Keep Tavares Police Department's Dispatch Center
This petition is to demonstrate to the Tavares City Council that the citizens of Tavares, employees of businesses located within the City of Tavares, and Tavares Police Department employees and their families want to keep the Police Dispatch Center in-house.
The City made this same move several years ago, and ultimately brought the dispatch center back in-house, investing in the most up-to-date technology and creating an eight person team, dedicated to providing the best service possible to the Citizens of Tavares and the Officers they rely on.
The loss of the dispatch center will not only impact the eight individuals who rely on their jobs, but also the Officers they support and the Citizens who depend on them for prompt and courteous assistance with their emergency and non-emergency needs.
3. Keep Ocoee 911 Services in Ocoee
The City of Ocoee plans on voting on August 18th at 7:15pm to move Ocoee's 911 services from Ocoee to Apopka. The move would take place no later than October 2009. Many residents foresee and fear problems will arise, including response time, which will suffer. This is what the city's own website says about the Communications department:
Mission
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for our citizens.
Services
The Communications Section is the primary coordinating support for the Ocoee Police Department. The Communications Section is the Public Safety Answering Point for all 9-1-1 calls within the City of Ocoee, providing our citizens and visitors with coordination and response for Police, Fire and Medical emergencies.
With highly-trained professional telecommunications officers, a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch System and an advance radio communications system, this section provides for all dispatching and status management for all Police units and personnel.
The Communications Section works in close partnership with neighboring municipalities and county agencies to ensure accurate, rapid, and professional public safety services to the citizens of Ocoee.
4. Keep Ambulance Dispatch Service in Medicine Hat
Alberta Health Services plans on moving ambulance dispatch service from Medicine Hat to Calgary as of June 30, 2011. Alderman Ted Clugston calls the move "disgraceful" and fears serious problems in service will ensue.
The City will be sending letters to Edmonton to protest the action. Hopefully we can also send this petition with those letters.
