2. Demand palm oil be labeled!
Today palm oil is used in lots of shopping products, some of which includes pears soap, pringles, most peanut butters, clover, ginsters, haribo, Good fellas pizza, warburtons and much more. Unfortunately I wouldn't be mentioning this if it didn't have such an affect on the environment.
The palm oil industry is responsible for destroying thousands of acres of deforestation in other countries. Currently 300 football fields are destroyed in south east Asia every hour for palm oil. And it's not just the vegetation that is being affected! The animals that rely on the forest (such as orangutans) are affected, many orangutans have no place to go when the forest is destroyed. 20 years ago their were more than 300,000 Bornean orangutans in the wild, now their are less than 45,000 in the wild. Orangutans only give birth once in 6 - 10 years therefore it is hard for them to breed as much as they are dying out due to deforestation.
Please go to http://www.wspa.org.uk/wspaswork/orangutans/ for more information on orangutans.
But worst of all the industry does not even label palm oil! Most palm oil is labeled as vegetable oil, therefore many people are unaware that it is in their food. This is taking away our freedom to know what exactly goes into our food, it takes away are choice of whether or not to eat palm oil! This is wrong, they should label palm oil and deliberately point out if it is palm oil free!

4. The Florida Open Carry Initiative
Throughout our history, the ability to be armed for self defense has been essential to our liberty. Today, the Florida state legislators have stripped the people of the ability to openly carry arms. This policy is inconsistent with that of a free society. The elimination of an open carry arms policy leads to corruption, the loss of liberty, and to a state of perpetual tyranny.
Here are a few thoughts that our forefathers left us with in regards to a well armed people.
“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
-Thomas Jefferson
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.”
-George Washington
“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
-Thomas Jefferson
A free people ought to be armed."
- George Washington
“To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them” .
-George Mason
5. Call For Solidarity for Real Chicano/Latino Studies at MSU
Within the past decade, great strides have been made in Chicano/Latino Studies at MSU. Some of the successes include:
A specialization in Chicano/Latino Studies was created for the first time, open to all students of the university to gain exposure and expertise in Chicano/Latino scholarship;
A unique mentoring program was developed, led by students for students, as a way to strengthen community and promote Chicano culture on-campus. Over 200 students have participated in the Chicano/Latino Fellows program since its inception;
A space for Chicano/Latino Studies was created, expanding from a one-room to a visible six-room office on-campus to support student social and academic activities;
A stand alone Ph.D. program in Chicano/Latino Studies was created, the first in the Midwest and only the second in existence nationwide;
An intellectual community of undergraduate students, graduate students, and core faculty committed to Chicano/Latino Studies has emerged, engaged in word and action to social justice and collective empowerment.
These accomplishments of the past decade, preceded by at least twenty years of struggle by Chicano students at Michigan State, are significant for at least two reasons:
First, there is now a greater institutional presence of Chicano/Latino Studies within the university;
Second and most importantly, these accomplishments reflect an intentional process by the former Director of Chicano/Latino Studies, Dr. Theresa Meléndez, to engage in principles of collective decision-making and mutual respect, whereby students and core faculty alike had a voice in the direction of the program.
For all of these reasons and more, it is unfortunate to have to come to you now and express that Chicano/Latino Studies is facing a crisis.
The demise of the program began after the appointment of Dr. Sheila Contreras as the new Director of Chicano/Latino Studies in the Fall of 2008. With the support and encouragement of MSU's administration, Dr. Contreras has single-handedly undermined the last 10 years of hard work and collective effort, primarily by refusing to listen to the voices of the undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Contreras has even been unresponsive to concerns raised by core faculty members since her appointment, her own colleagues in Chicano/Latino Studies.
After being unsuccessful in attempting to share our concerns directly with Dr. Contreras, the Real Chicano/Latino Studies (RCLS) was formed in the spring of 2009 as a symbolic expression of opposition to the direction and current leadership of the program. Subsequent attempts to share our concerns were taken to the Dean of the College of Social Science, where the program is housed, and after no resolution, to the Provost of the University. Despite the concerns repeatedly raised by the majority of all involved directly in the program, the administration of the University has ignored them and continued to support the Director.
We are, thus, writing you today, asking for your help!
CONTACT PRESIDENT LOU ANA SIMON and demand that Michigan State honors the students’ request for new principled leadership in Chicano/Latino Studies. President Simon can be contacted by EMAIL at presmail@msu.edu and laksimon@msu.edu, or by PHONE at 517.355.6560. If you email, you can copy the State News at opinion@statenews.edu.

On March 2006 NBC network started airing a great new action and drama show named Heist.
Due to bad scheduling of this new intelligent and exiciting show it recived lower than expected Ratings.
As Intelligent and interesting shows are very few we demand the show is given another chance - it was expected to be a mini series so let it end as it was planned from the start.
Changing the airing schedule so the Heist won't compete with Lost or any other Mega popular shows.
25. Petition for clean air: Laredo District 3
March 25, 2006
On or about the year 2004, The City of Laredo purchased certain property located within the confines of the City of Laredo District 3.
Specifically, the property, purchased from the Slaughter family, and commonly referred to as the "Slaughter Farm or Ranch" takes up a number of acres bordering Chacon Street to the North and Stone Street to its East.(may also include other streets)
During the negotiations of the City's purchase of the land, the Citizens of District 3 understood that the property would serve as a recreation area, including park and sports facilites.
However, since the City has taken control of this land, they have stripped the land of all grass, shrubs and other protectants from the southeast winds coming into District 3. As a result, the citizens of District 3 have faced a nuisance that is directly affecting their neighborhood living. For instance, the Citizens of District 3 have:
-constant dust and dirt being blown and penetrated into their homes, automobiles and other personal belongings;
-been unable to enjoy numerous outdoor activities as they did in the past; and more importantly,
-been forced to breath the dust and dirt that may contain contaminated and hazardous particles, including pesticides and fertilizers from the many years the land was farmed.
The air being breathed by the Citizens of District 3 is not clean and they demand that remedial measures be taken immediately.

27. Keep Teens Safe at Haven House
February 21, 2006
The Haven House was built due to the countless number of homeless and at risk teens.
It was a one year pilot project with government funding for that time.
It has been run for the last 2 years with funding from the Salvation Army and the District Social Services Administration Board but funding has been discontinued.
They want to send the teens to the Thunder Bay Shelter House where they will be amongst many older adults with drug & alcohol problems and other mental issues. Teens who have used this facility before have been threatened, raped and robbed. Several have been asked to leave for their own safety by the staff of the Shelter House. None of these incidents are ever reported to the authorites and seem to be just swept under the mat.
It is up to the community to see the saftey of the children by keeping the Haven House open and demand we get proper funding to do so.

Since the merger between TVU and Reading College, the University has offered the students more hardship. Cuts are being made across the whole University, but the plan to close the Radio Station is one cut too far.
The Radio Station is the heart of the student community of TVU Reading and that must be defended no matter what the cost.
We the undersigned are disgusted at the plans to close the Radio Station and demand that the service is handed over to the Students' Union to continue to provide the essential services that the station provides.
