Authorities decided Wednesday not to pursue hate crime charges in the kidnapping and weeklong torture of a black woman, instead going after the suspects, who are white, on state charges that carry stiffer penalties.

While federal civil rights or state hate crime charges remain an option, a state kidnapping count that carries a sentence of up to life in prison will provide the best chance for successful prosecution, officials said.

Six people face charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault and lying to police in the torture of Megan Williams, 20, at a remote hillside home in Big Creek.

State hate crime charges, which carry a sentence of 10 years, could come later, prosecutor Brian Abraham said. State sexual assault charges carry a penalty up to 35 years in prison.

The woman's captors forced her to eat rat droppings, choked her with a cable cord and stabbed her in the leg while calling her a racial slur, according to criminal complaints. They also poured hot water over her, made her drink from a toilet, and beat and sexually assaulted her during a span of about a week, the documents say.

All six remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 cash bail each. Bobby Brewster is scheduled to appear before a Logan County Circuit Court judge on Monday to be arraigned on the kidnapping charge, according to court records. A date for his mother's appearance on the kidnapping charge has not yet been set.

Hate crimes --occur when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her membership in a certain social group, usually defined by race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, or political affiliation.

How is this not defined as a hate crime? If this type of behavior is being ignored in 2007, Imagine what can happen in the future if this is not handled properly now.

Many of us say that our city is wonderful, those who live in a good environment. But has anyone really thought about what its like for people to live is fear in their homes?

Personally my family is in danger because they are looking for justice, many of their neighbors can’t say anything because if they do they themselves will get in trouble by gang members. And for a person that is trying to get a lot of people to understand that not all the police officers are working their most, I'm not saying anyone police officer in particular, there are people that are trying to help but not enough.

My sister had to look herself for her stolen property, she called the cops and finally they got some one arrested for violating her property, yet one was released on the same day.

I know I’m not the first to bring this up but we really need to get it together, because there are people getting killed trying to support and take care of their families.

The very fundamental value of America will be perturbed and perpetrated on July 12th on the floor of the US senate, by the most dangerous bunch of people on earth “the Hindu fundamentalists”.

It has been reported that senate has invited a Hindu Chaplain by name Rajan Zed from North Nevada to perform this Vedic prayers to start the senate session in Washington DC. This is the height of not only ignorance but height of insanity. Why?, as we all know that America stands for equality, human values, individual rights, liberty and land of opportunity for the capable. On the contrary, Hindu’s of India stands for inequality, highly discriminative of humans as upper, lower and untouchables.

The Hindu Caste system that divided the society and broke the society into thousands of valueless pieces in the caste system, this very same caste system is destroying the dalits every single day in the last 3000 years and it is continuing as of today. The whole pathology of the Indian society stems from this very Vedic preaching’s and teachings.

The Veda scriptures were the foundation for the human discrimination and violence in India. The hindu fundamentalists are destroying Christian churches, burning Christian fathers alive, raping and killing the Christian woman and other minorities, how callous is the senate members who trumpet to invite a hindu chaplain to pray in US senate?

Moreover, the very Vedic learned and earned members of the hindu society are responsible for the enormous poverty, atrocity and responsible for the degraded inhuman treatments of dalits all over India.

How ironic is that the 218 year old, highly respectable US senate has conceived such a pathological idea of hindu prayer? While the 55 year old Indian parliament never advocated or entertained such hindu Vedic prayer in its own land. Because, the savior of Dalits society Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, the first law minister of India and the father of the Indian constitution made caste system illegal and unlawful. So, the good practices and good intentions of the parliament was preserved by the followers of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar and good humans who know the pathological intentions and satanic influence of unscientific and anti-social Vedic scriptures and its preaching’s. Veda and Rig Veda from where the scriptures of hymns will be selected is one of the oldest scriptures written in “Sanskrit” language, why do we Americans has to listen to some alien and ill conceived language that no body has any clue on earth as what the heck this chaplain is saying in his prayers.

This is the same Veda that preaches all men are not equal, this is the same Vedic scriptures teaches human discrimination of the highest order that is destroying humans and the society in India, this is the same Veda that practices sacrifices of animals, including humans to pray false gods.

As the Vedic and Hindu religion prays close to million gods, artificially created to keep the people of India under false and filthy faiths as well as to keep the Indians under constant fear of meaningless stones and idols, Veda is created as a tool to manipulate and control the 90% of the society by a merely 10% anti social elements of the society, so, except for those who created the Vedas who uphold the powerful positions and grabbed the entire opportunities of India into their backyard, are savage animals, they savaged the nation in the name of caste system. The human discrimination and segregation in India is 3000 years old organized social crime, it is a blot on any civilized society and the world. This is originated in the Veda, which discriminates humans as upper, lower, outcaste and untouchable, unseeable and what not!?.

The result, the Vedic teachings and prayers are constantly precipitated in Hindu’s and non-Hindu’s mind that they lack any reasoning and logical abilities, that is why they attack and kill their own fellow men and woman in India. Such is the greatness of Veda that the senate is interested in listening to on the 12th of July.

This initiative and steps taken by the US senate to start the senate with Veda prayer will enormously undermine the value system of America and such a step will encourage nations to discriminate their own people. This will encourage the hindu fundamentalists who are already attacking churches, Muslim prayers Halls and other minorities in India, especially it will give upper hand for the fundamentalist Hindu’s to continue to attack the innocent dalits in the name of meaningless Veda and scriptures. This will add fuel to the already dangerous Hindu’s atrocious activity in India, this Veda preaches and practices that all men are not equal.

Human rights, woman rights and minority rights are equally protected and respected in America, while no such rights exists in India mainly because of the hindu religious sanctions and orders that come through Veda. Is it worthy to use such a prayer in US senate?. Is it right to use such a prayer in US senate?
Respectable senators, congress men/woman and representatives, please be informed about the truths of such prayers from such dangerous religion. While the state has kept the church separate, how come you are bringing the Hindu temple and it’s callous prayers inside the US senate? Are you aware of how many dalits are getting killed in India every single day in the name of the caste system that originated from this very Veda and Vedic scriptures.

All eight Democratic contenders for the United States presidency have attacked President Bush's policy in Iraq.

Speakers urged the president not to veto a bill passed by both houses of Congress which sets a timetable for withdrawing US troops from Iraq. The Democrat-controlled Congress passed the bill narrowly despite Mr Bush's repeated threats to veto it.

Five Europeans who were touring the northern remote region, along with eight Ethiopians, were kidnapped 12 days ago and now some of them are found in the neighboring country- Eritrea. The Europeans worked in the British embassy in Ethiopia and after a threat of diplomatic isolation against Eritrea; the Eritrean government has finally freed the European hostages.

Twelve days after the regional officials indicated that Eritrean soldiers kidnapped and took the hostages to an Eritrean military camp; fortunately, the release of the five Europeans became a successful campaign on March 13 and the hostages were found in Eritrea. But sadly, the eight Ethiopian civilians are STILL being held. It is the duty of everyone to be the voice of the voiceless Ethiopian hostages and help them get free.

Following the 1991 Gulf War, the United Nations mandated that Iraqi chemical, biological, nuclear, and long range missile programs be verifiably halted and all such weapons verifiable destroy. After 9/11 attacks, the president of the United States George W. Bush claimed that Saddam Hussein supported for international terrorist groups of treat to the West. He demanded a complete end to alleged Iraqi production and use of weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq comply with UN Resolutions requiring UN inspectors unfettered access to areas those inspectors thought might have weapons production facilities. During this time, before 2003 invasion of Iraq, Bush repeatedly backed demands for unfettered inspection and disarmament with treats of invasion.

Even though the government of Iraq agreed to new inspections in late 2002 and inspectors did not find any WMD stockpiles, the United States, United Kingdom, and Spain proposed another resolution on Iraq, witch they called the “ eighteenth resolution” to give Iraq a deadline to comply with previous resolution before a possible military intervention. This proposed resolution was subsequently withdrawn because not enough countries would have supported it. In particular, NATO members France and Germany, together with Russia, were opposed to a military intervention in Iraq, on the ground that it would be very risky, in terms of security, for the international community, and defended a diplomatic process of disarmament.

However, the White House had never stopped its plan which invading Iraq to achieve their “purpose”. In March 2003 the U.S. government announced that “diplomacy has failed” and that it would proceed with a coalition of allied countries, named “coalition of the willing”, to rid Iraq of its alleged weapons of mass destruction witch meant the war in Iraq was on hand.

They think that these women are in control but what most girls do not realize is that these women are really spinning out of control because many of them have an eating disorder. “In America young girls have been so obsessed with dieting that they will take extreme measures by the time they are ten years old” (Erlanger).

Almost every girl at some point in her life has looked in the mirror and thought that all they saw was fat. By being skinny it shows that you have control over your life. Even I have been one of those girls who look at themselves in the mirror and think they are fat. Unlike many girls I have never taken drastic measures to change the way I look. All I have done is exercised significantly and eaten healthy foods. Like every girl in America I wanted to be like the women that I see on television.

“Five to ten million people have eating disorders nation wide; that includes eleven percent of high school students and up to nineteen percent of college students. Eighteen to twenty percent of people with anorexia will die within twenty years of diagnosis” (Lauren Gold). This is a statistic that must be changed for the benefit of today’s youth. Television is the way most individuals get information in the United States; therefore it is the media’s responsibility to portray a more realistic image for young girls.

I believe that it would be a great idea for CBS to run a show on this growing epidemic in America. Thank you for your time.

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television programs in the world and last year celebrated its 50th anniversary. Nations from across Europe take part in the competition to find the best song each year and 2004 saw the introduction of a semi-final in order to cope with the increased number of entries.

In addition to being one of the longest running shows on television it is also one of the most watched and the introduction of an internet broadcast in 2006 boosted the already high viewing figures. However, although the show is available online this broadcast does not include the very British perspective of Terry Wogan’s commentary on the competition.

It is our belief that BBC America should show Eurovision in the format aired on the BBC in the UK to give insight into the competition to American Anglophiles and music fans, as well as providing the opportunity for British Ex-Pats to enjoy a well-loved spectacle.

Every 3 seconds, a child dies of disease or starvation in poor countries such as africa. 1... 2... 3... another just died. They often go for days without food or water, and children as young as 4 are looking after their younger siblings, and learning how to survive on their own.

These children appreciate every little morsel of food they recieve! they face a hard torturous life day after day, and they have nothing to look forward to, or aim towards because recieving a decent education, even though they would love one.

Yet in richer countries like USA and UK and Australia, children take education for granted. They deliberately skip school, and they get food whenever they like, as much as they like. if every person in these richer countries who earned over $100 a week, gave just $1, there would be a huge difference in these peoples lifes. They could get fresh clean water supplies, from built in wells. They could buy farming tools for growing their own food, and they could recieve a better education, that would help a lot in the future of the countries wealth. Millions of children's lives would be saved from unnessicary deaths, and they would, for once in their lives, have something to smile about. Yet the richer people would hardly notice it was gone from them!

I believe that the governments of richer and more developed countries, should make it illegal not to donate money if you earn more than $100 a week.

I believe the US should have and official language, that being English. I do not believe that businesses should be catering to other languages.

Businesses putting their product language in spanish is just catering to Spanish speaking people. If a person comes to America to live, they should learn the official language of America - America should not cater to them. If I went to Mexico to live, I would learn Spanish.

Since the extreme drop in temperatures this year, areas around the shipping and receiving lanes have become too frigid and unbearable. There is not enough sufficient devices in place to defer the wind from entering the building, therefore creating a very cold work environment.

Employees are having to wear extra layers or heavier clothing to stay warm, which causes interference throughout the work day, i.e. clothing getting in the way during picking, loss of concentration, etc.

The world is coming to an end, and it’s our fault. The world, and its people, is to blame for the self-destruction we are causing for ourselves.

We all know its true, and we all know that it won’t be long until the damage we are causing can not be fixed. The Earth's ozone layer protects all life from the sun's harmful radiation, but human activities have damaged this shield. Less protection from ultraviolet light will, over time, lead to higher skin cancer, cataract rates and crop damage. This problem will destroy food, plants, and even its inhabitance. The destruction of the ozone will lead to many environmental problems; such as heating up the ocean, causing more hurricanes/tsunamis, melting the Polar Regions, bringing huge floods and mudslides at coastlines.

Skin cancer, optical sensitivity, and other human being issues will escalade and be the reason for many unfortunate deaths. For over 50 years, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were thought of as miracle substances. They are stable, nonflammable, low in toxicity, and inexpensive to produce. Over time, CFCs found uses as refrigerants, solvents, foam blowing agents, and in other smaller applications. Other chlorine-containing compounds include methyl chloroform, a solvent, and carbon tetrachloride, an industrial chemical.

Halons, extremely effective fire extinguishing agents, and methyl bromide, an effective produce and soil fumigant, contain bromine. All of these compounds have atmospheric lifetimes long enough to allow them to be transported by winds into the stratosphere. Because they release chlorine or bromine when they break down, they damage the protective ozone layer. The ozone layer is a vital part of our world, without it, we will not survive. The earth has taken such good care of us in the early years, now it’s our turn to take care of the earth.

We must act today before it’s too late. We want the government to invest more in the production and use of ozone-safe materials, such as; Hydrogen, Ethanol (corn-based power), Solar, Wind, and countless other materials.
