214. Remove Travel Ban to Nigeria

The Philippine Government has imposed a total travel ban of Filipinos to Nigeria.

On October 1, 2007, the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Mr. Esteban Conejos Jr. sent a directive to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz to ensure the full enforcement without exception on the deployment ban to Nigeria. This is in relation to the meeting on September 27, 2007 presided by Vice President Noli De Castro and attended by officials from DFA, DOLE, OWWA, POEA, NBI, CFO and Ambassador Roy A. Cimatu of the PMEPC citing that the peace and order situation in Nigeria is unstable.

OFWs in Nigeria have done enormous efforts through different channels (phone calls, emails, letters) in a request to review and to lift the said deployment ban. Even the Philippine Embassy in Nigeria thru Ambassador Masarunga Umpa issued a statement on November 7, 2007 that they have requested and recommended the government officials in Manila to remove the travel ban.

The reasons to the petition for the lifting of the said ban are enumerated below:

1. The incidences of kidnapping of expatriates are confined mainly to a small area in Nigeria known as the Delta Region and they happen at remote swampy areas, creeks and lagoons of the region’s two states, Rivers and Delta. However, these incidents are certainly not daily occurrences but rather isolated cases which government security agencies have categorised as criminal activities and are not reflective of the entire security situation of the country.

2. Multinational companies operating in the said region, in cooperation with government agencies, have very stringent and well-planned security and surveillance arrangements for all their expatriate and indigenous workers. Aside from such arrangements, these companies have updated contingency plans and evacuation procedures for said workers in the event of emergencies cropping up.

3. The Delta Region is far from Lagos and Abuja, the financial and political centers of the country. It is also far from other major urban centers like Ibadan, Benin, Abeokuta, Aba, in the south and Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Ilorin, in the north. These places are homes to big communities of OFWs and their dependents - are peaceful and quite; daily life and business activities go on normally. True, there are social problems therein, but they are also the same problems that are in the Philippines and other countries, perhaps worse than what is in Nigeria.

4. The employment benefits of OFWs in Nigeria are far better and higher than those offered in the Philippines and in other countries. OFWs in Nigeria have made very positive impressions on their employers and are most likely to be re-hired. However, this current deployment ban will certainly affect such re-employment. Employers fully know that their Filipino workers can no longer return for employment because of this deployment ban. As a result, companies will source their skilled manpower requirements from other countries.

5. If we, OFWs in Nigeria who travel for home leave in the Philippines, are barred from returning to our employment, how can we meet our numerous financial commitments – monthly payments for mortgaged houses, children’s school fees, feeding for the family, water and electric bills, financial support for aged parents, etc?

Are there employment opportunities in the Philippines which can provide us far greater benefits than what we receive from our employers in Nigeria?

6. It is only the Philippine Government which has imposed travel restrictions on its citizens who seek for gainful employment in Nigeria. Other countries, whose citizens have been subject to much severe cases of abductions/kidnappings, issue travel advisories only. This situation makes us a laughing stock among the expatriate communities in Nigeria.

218. Help African Refugees in Australia

The Australian Government will not be accepting anymore African refugees until
July 2008. As stated by the United Nations High Commission for refugees,
Australia should be accepting refugees based on need for protection, not on
their ability to intergrate (or perceptions about their intergration) nor on the basis of religion, race or nationality.

Australia’s cut is working against our duty to demonstrate empathy, good will and patience. It is also contradicting the Human Rights Declaration which states that every person has a right to life, liberty and security. Africa needs our help - millions of people are stuck in refugee camps and our government is about to turn them away.

This petition is not just fighting for the rights of African refugees and the greater refugee community, but also fighting against the racial politics of our government. As worldly citizens we need to stand up for our people.

219. Call to promote free press and media development in Ethiopia

This millennium petition is inspired by the unity of Ethiopians following the massacre of 65 Ethiopians by the ONLF rebels and by our courage to face numerous other rebels who are ready to massacre Ethiopians instead of joining the peaceful opposition parties inside the current Ethiopian parliament.

This petition is motivated by a dwindling but surviving hope that international watch dogs are able to one day re-evaluate what role they are playing in the progress of democracy and freedom of press in Ethiopia.

224. Stop the mass slaughtering of street dogs in Egypt

Update March 2013: shared by GoPetition on Facebook. Petition originally published in May 2007.

Update 6 November 2010: Massive killing is taking place all over Egypt, the GOVS take Minia Governorate as a successful example, the Governor of Menia killed all the dogs in Menia.

For all concerned about the current massacre of dogs in Egypt

Very clearly the GOVS (General Organization of Veterinary Services) will not stop this massacre all over Egypt unless the Animal Welfare Societies set an immediate meeting with the Chairperson of General Organization of Veterinary Services (GOVS)to discuss feasable solutions.

The GOVS proposes, 4 units to be allotted to the AW societies who wish to conduct TNR projects or relocate dogs in some areas where the GOVS received most complaints from some citizens. The GOVS states, they have little resources in terms of operations equipments, but they have those facilities, man power, and vets. Unless the AW societies make this step the massacre will continue. I make call to all AW societies, to be one hand in facing this massacre, I call AW societies to forget all the differences between them and unite for stopping the current and future massacre.

The Government in Egypt still insists on using strychnine poison to address stray dogs problems in Egypt.

Regardless of warnings of danger of using this poison on man and animals Gen. Vet Services insists. Whilst the Utility police force insist on shooting dogs regardless of the plea from Animal welfare groups and organizations in Egypt. The legislation, one was submitted by Animal Friends, but refused due to points which were found redundant, another legislation was proposed by OIE conference held in Cairo last month, God only knows if there is any hope in coming up with a legislation or applying the standards submitted by OIE.

-------------------------------------
Update September 2010

Mass shooting and poisoning is taking place in a big scale now, it seems that the excuse now is: a rabies infected dog has bitten a person, so, the Governors of various Governorates order mass shooting or mass poisoning.. without investigation.... this is done, healthy unhealthy animals, this is done, dangers of strychnine poison on environment, this is done... Pressure must be kept on. Each Sunday the petition updated would be emailed to the Governors, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministers involved. We will not give up.

Update April 20, 2009

First and second phase of Participatory Planning Project were successful, some differences is surfacing within Egyptian Federation members regarding the issue of the possibility of conducting euthanasia on healthy animals. Matters are halted as EFAW, Egyptian Federation members are split to two parties now because of euthanasia issue.

As for the legislation, no way to push the legislation which was conducted by AW societies, it is obvious and clear, the Ministry of Agriculture has to form committee to work on legislation, this committee would include animal welfare societies and not visa versa as was done before.

Massive shooting of dogs continues as police claims they receive complaints from citizens in the neighbourhood where stray dogs group.

-----------------------------------

Update Dec., 2008

WSPA had signed agreement with Egytian Federation to conduct Participatory Planning Project for the problem of stray dogs in Cairo. The workshops were conducted by the National Research Center of Egypt, attended by all stake holders, Govs., Vets, Animal Welfare Societies (not all), Representation from Ministry of Interior, Representation Ministry of Agriculture, families concerned, Central Zoos Representative, .. etc

Update Nov. 8, 2008
reports received of shooting stray dogs 8pm in Giza Square. AWAR group inquired from Utility police unit of Giza, yes they did as they received complaints from an individual stating that the dogs are attacking people, when confronting the police officer, he said they killed rabie infected dogs, who told you the dogs you killed had rabies, answer: they look so?!!

Update Nov. 7, 2008
Qena Governorate, Northern Aswan, Ahram newspaper reports that 2 wolves attacked two citizens in daylight? The wolves were slaughtered. I suspect the Governor of Qena in defense would order mass killing of dogs, the guards of the city. I suspect the eco system of Aswan, South of Qena was disturbed after the mass killing of 2300 dogs, thus wildlife, had to travel or exit the city of Aswan, it is known that wolves can travel 30 to 50 miles per day.

Update Nov. 5, 2008
Ahram Newspaper published:
Animal Welfare Organizations in Egypt, counts 9 in Egypt, condemned the killing of 2300 stray dogs in Aswan and Dina Zulfikar, coordinator of Animal Welfare Organizations in Egypt fears that ecological imbalance may occur as a result of extermination of stray dogs which are considered the first defense for cities against harmful animals which habitats in the mountains surrounding Aswan. With the illumination of those dogs these can enter the city and attack man and animal.

Dr. Wael Abd El Monem, environmental ecologist Cairo University supports this point of view and asks for adopting a study and description of this mammal, environmental description about the so called mammal named "Salawa", studying what made this mammal appear, why is it attacking people, adding that extermination of stray dogs would result in a generation of wild dogs which may defensively act against extermination.

Update Nov. 4, 2008
Two weeks ago the newspapers highlighted the incident of 2 persons
attacked by a mammal (dog species) in Aswan.
The Governor of Aswan formed a committee of:
Gen Vet Services Department
Health department
National Council for Women
headed by Dr. Omar Mohamadein

the mammal description: rare legs long, two canines showing off
clearly. Three of these mammals were shot, even though the Governor
ordered the 4 main units of Aswan to carry on shooting and poisoning
stray dogs. Already 1300 dogs were killed and the massacre is
continuing in Aswan. What is feared is that more Governors may
follow these same methods to avoid this mammal.

It is well known that stray dogs are the main defense of cities
especially if surrounded by desert, dogs prevents wild species from
entering cities, e.g. In Sirilanka when dog massacre was made
leopards entered the city and attacked people.
1200 dogs were killed
budget: 15000 Egyptian Pounds to buy poison of strychnine
25000 Egyptian pounds for shooting

Action taken:

Necessary contacts were made to alert the public, the Ahram
newspaper correspondence in Aswan will high light the issue
Contacts with Dr. Hoda Mustafa NATINAL COOUNCIL FOR WOMEN was made
to alert about the crises of echo system
contacts with conservation unit, Ministry of Environment were made.
Contacts with ecologists Faculty of Science Cairo University was made to provide complete documents to the authorities, Govs, newspaper and all media concerned parties
High alert as promised would be published by the Ahram newspaper.

Update July 29, 2008
Legislation has been submitted to Ministry of Agriculture but was refused claiming there was a redundancy. Another trial to submit legislation through Vetrinary College is currently underway.
AWAR group has scheduled regular awareness campaigns at Giza Zoo (50 to 90 thousand Egyptians visit the zoo during weekends). Regular awareness events are organized by AWAR in coalition of all AW organizations and groups are participating. Awareness to stop cruelty is our only mean now to stop the abuse.

Up date 23 May - WSPA remains committed

Dear Dina
Re; Cairo Dog Control

Thank you for writing to us.

WSPA have been involved in trying to address the dog shooting and poisoning issue in Cairo for about ten years, much of that time in collaboration with your organisation SPARE.

Unfortunately success has been very limited, primarily due the complex and extensive nature of the problem. Initially WSPA coordinated a campaign encouraging an international audience, particularly past or potential tourists to Egypt, to petition the government to stop shooting and poisoning dogs, explaining that they found it despicable and would not come to Egypt if it did not cease. This worked to an extent as the risk of loosing tourist revenue prompted the government to open discussions with Animal Welfare groups one of which was WSPA.

The government then invited WSPA to show them how to tackle the problem in a humane way. Conferences & workshops were held to sensitise the authorities about the issues of dog control and to highlight to them the futility & inhumanity of mass extermination.

A pilot programme was then started in the Abissiya vet clinic in collaboration with the GOVS to prove to the authorities that the suggested alternatives worked. The pilot failed for a number of reasons, the most important being the lack of commitment and motivation on the part of GOVS. This however was not the sole reason. The fact remains that in order to achieve genuine dog control; a number of different interventions need to be carried out simultaneously.

In addition to mass sterilisation these should include; finding out where exactly the stray dogs are actually coming from and then trying to address the cause, solid waste management, education, improved legislation and better enforcement to ensure that it is maintained. This did not happen!

As you can see the investment needed to successfully control the Cairo dog issue is huge and unless the responsible authorities make a genuine effort to address it, it is impossible for any charitable organisation to tackle the issue unilaterally. It is therefore very important to try and get the government to buy-in to the concept and not just pay it lip service.

I won’t even try to explain to you as an Egyptian the size of this task but suffice to say that it will be a long hard road, one on which you have bravely take the first steps.

WSPA remains committed to reducing cruelty in every part of the world and considering our long history of involvement in Cairo we would undoubtedly step forward once more but this time we would only engage with the government if we believed the commitment from the authority was genuine.

I hope my sagacity does not deflate your noble efforts but rather clarifies where you need to focus and in particular gives you an idea of the key components of a holistic dog control programme as this is needed to make a long term impact on the issue.

With best regards
Nick

Up date 22 May - According to SPARE (sparealife.org) report by Mona Khalil: Poisoning dogs reported in Mohandessin area in Cairo May 21st. I was optimistic, but seems that the Egyptian President's statement published on the 18th May "the President called for applying humane international measures in dealing with stray animals instead of shooting and poisoning" was misunderstood!

On behalf of all animal lovers in the world I would like to show my gratitude and appreciation for all those who signed the petition and made our voices heard, without each and every one of you nothing could have happened. Together we are strong.

Friday 18 May - First step towards victory, thanks to all - we will continue our petition, this time to address the Egyptian Parliament.

Egyptian news paper The almasry-alyoum Egyptian newspaper published: Official sources in the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the Egyptian President asked the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture to prepare a report about stray dogs in Egypt, and to open an investigation into reports published by various press and animal welfare organizations appalling the practice of shooting and poisoning.

The sources added that the President called for applying humane international measures in dealing with stray animals instead of shooting and poisoning which detracts from Egypt's status as a land of culture and center of tourism.

It is expected that the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture would issue strict instructions to the veterinary medicine department in govern orates in coordination with public utility police force to apply humane methods (vaccination) instead of shooting and poisoning.

In context the Animal welfare organizations in Egypt is considering a call for an urgent meeting tomorrow, Saturday to discuss the sequences of the use of inhumane methods which has been prohibited internationally, besides escalating the applaud and issuing a brief, pleading calling the Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak to issue an order to stop the shooting and poisoning of stray animals.

Bridget Bar dot had sent a fax to Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak to interfere in the mass slaughtering of Egyptian dogs and called the Egyptian government to use humane methods instead of shooting and poisoning.

Wednesday 16 May
Petition daily update is emailed on daily basis to the ministries concerned in Egypt. Amina Abaza -the chairman of Society for animal protection in Egypt sparealife.org - delivered by hand with receipt our requests to the Ministers of Egypt on the 15th of May. No response up till now. A half page ad will be published Saturday 19th May at one of the most read newspapers in Egypt "Akhbar Al Yawm"..

Mr. Ahmed El Sherbiny Chairman of Animal Friends in Egypt has sent faxes to the ministries of Egypt calling them to take action and to stop the brutal cruelty of dog slaughtering.

SPARE received no reports of shooting today.

Tuesday 15th May
Shooting continues in Mohandessin district of Cairo

SLAUGHTERING CONTINUES!!

Sunday 13th May, Slaughtering continues Andrea went down to feed the dogs as usual, as the past 10 months since she had been in Cairo, she found 2 of them dead beside each other, the other two were not in sight, on my way to her home after she called me in hysteria not believing this happened , I spotted the two, I went down and got one of them , I had the power and the determination to get her and I just carried her from the street unfortunately the other big one ran away, we tried to spot him again an hour later he showed up, it seems he was trying to look for his friends , he found them dead, he smelled them and stood there, I tried to catch it on camera but it was not good it was already dark and I hardly could get the other photos that I will send later, Andrea tried to call him but he just left immediately on the opposite way, and god knows where he will be or what will happen ,we will try to locate him but I do not know what will happen, while standing to take pictures another couple of foreigner passed by us and said this is the third time this week they see such a scene , dogs shot on the corners of streets.

Andrea is devastated, I do not know till when I will be able to hold on, they killed the kindest two of them, the one I caught is also very kind but rather new than the other ones. they were killed in the morning according to porters in the area, they were already blowing and smelly when I got there to take pictures For those of you who do not know who is Andrea, she is the famous American/ gernan woman who adopted our big boy lord, and wrote Lord tales when she adopted him, she is also dog trainer and has been helping us for a while now, she also did our spare leaflet and was working on another for the massacre that happened at Haram area two days ago when this was happening to her dogs , it is even astonishing as it is known that no shooting is allowed in residential areas where foreigners specially Americans are living.

The madness is going on and will not stop ,sine once again we called the municipality and comaplained trying to know whose orders was it this time and the reply came that we should not bother calling ,they will continue to shoot and consider it their mission. witnessed by: Mona Khalil

On Friday 11th May, This female pregnant bitch was shot today at 1,15 in the afternoon in " Sahl Hamza " street , in Pyramids road , 15 minutes aftter being shot she was still alive and was shaking , the witnesses tried to help but it was too late. Only one bullet to kill each dog , this mother was shot in her belly ,we have the pictures ..look at the pictures. This is how we reduce dog's population in Egypt.

An alternate solution has been handed to the Egyptian Government, without baring any costs.. yet the offer was denied.

We the animal lovers together with SOCIETY FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS PROTECTION IN EGYPT registered as a charitable organization with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs Registration No. 1615 (2001) believe that Killing street dogs and cats is inhumane and does not go well with our cultural ethos of love and compassion for animals.

226. Send Aid to Darfur!

The Darfur conflict is an ongoing armed conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan, mainly between the Janjaweed, a militia group recruited from the tribes of the Abbala Rizeigat (Bedouin Arabs), and the non-Baggara people (mostly land-tilling tribes) of the region.

The Sudanese government, while publicly denying that it supports the Janjaweed, has provided money and assistance and has participated in joint attacks with the group, systematically targeting the Fur, Zaghawa, and Massaleit ethnic groups in Darfur. The conflict began in July 2003. Unlike in the Second Sudanese Civil War, which was fought between the primarily Muslim north and Christian and Animist south, in Darfur most of the residents are Muslim, as are the Janjaweed.

After fighting worsened in July and August 2006, on August 31, 2006, the United Nations Security Council approved Resolution 1706 which called for a new 17,300-troop UN peacekeeping force to supplant or supplement a poorly funded, ill-equipped 7,000-troop African Union Mission in Sudan peacekeeping force. Sudan strongly objected to the resolution and said that it would see the UN forces in the region as foreign invaders. The next day, the Sudanese military launched a major offensive in the region. (See New proposed UN peacekeeping force)

Estimated number of deaths in the conflict vary widely. According to Sudan's government, 9,000 people have been killed; most NGOs use 200,000 to over 400,000, a figure from the Coalition for International Justice that has since been cited by the United Nations. As many as 2.5 million are thought to have been displaced as of October 2006.[3] (See Counting deaths section, below) The mass media once described the conflict as both "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide," and now do so without hesitation. The some in the United States government has described it as genocide, although the United Nations has declined to do so.

In March 2007 the U.N. mission accused Sudan's government of orchestrating and taking part in "gross violations" in Darfur and called for urgent international action to protect civilians there. Not much action has taken place.

227. Nigerian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Oppression

President Obama,

Please take immediate action to press the Nigerian government to end mistreatment of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people. Speak out openly and strongly against the horribly oppressive anti-gay legislation bill entitled “The Prohibition of Relationships Between Persons of the Same Sex, Celebration of Marriage by Them and for Other Matters Connected Therewith.”

The bill seeks to imprison anyone for:

• membership in a gay group
• attending a gay meeting or protest
• advocating for gay equality
• donating money to a gay organization
• hosting or visiting a gay website
• publication or possession of gay safer sex advice
• renting or selling property to a gay couple
• publishing, selling or loaning a gay book or video

This bill affects not only GLBT people, but the people who love and support them. This bill creates an oppressive environment for everyone. Please take action immediately to stop the oppressive Nigerian Bill, which is a threat to human rights everywhere. If passed this bill would restrict freedoms of GLBT people and defenders of human rights. It would have a devastating effect on the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. As you said in your Democratic National Convention speech “it is my fundamental belief that I am my brothers keeper.”

Thank you,

Sankofa Way

228. Every person earning over $100 a week should have to donate at least $1 to poorer countries

Every 3 seconds, a child dies of disease or starvation in poor countries such as africa. 1... 2... 3... another just died. They often go for days without food or water, and children as young as 4 are looking after their younger siblings, and learning how to survive on their own.

These children appreciate every little morsel of food they recieve! they face a hard torturous life day after day, and they have nothing to look forward to, or aim towards because recieving a decent education, even though they would love one.

Yet in richer countries like USA and UK and Australia, children take education for granted. They deliberately skip school, and they get food whenever they like, as much as they like. if every person in these richer countries who earned over $100 a week, gave just $1, there would be a huge difference in these peoples lifes. They could get fresh clean water supplies, from built in wells. They could buy farming tools for growing their own food, and they could recieve a better education, that would help a lot in the future of the countries wealth. Millions of children's lives would be saved from unnessicary deaths, and they would, for once in their lives, have something to smile about. Yet the richer people would hardly notice it was gone from them!

I believe that the governments of richer and more developed countries, should make it illegal not to donate money if you earn more than $100 a week.

229. Introduce Interest-free Loans/Grants for the Poor & Wipe Off Existing Debt

Introduce Interest-free Loans/Grants for the Poor & Wipe Off Existing Debt.

Poor countries are under a heavy debt burden despite having paid off billions of the original, principle sum. We need a new ethical way of lending money i.e. interest-free, and a more partnership-based, risk sharing method of working with them.

We need to cancel, forgive their current debts and provide interest-free grants/loans, and a more humanitarian partnership based dealings with them.

There has to be a concerted, global effort to develop and implement an interest-free economy which will resolve permanently the debt burden and other related financial problems.

We need your support, voice and action to achieve this.

230. African Reparations for the Black Holocaust

TO: International Criminal Court (ICC), International Court of Justice (ICJ), United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC)

CC: European Union (EU), Organization of American States (OAS), African Union (AU), State of the Vatican City (The Holy See)

--->THESE INHUMANE ACTS & WAR CRIMES CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED<---

What has been known as the Black (African) Holocaust, created among our people in Africa and the Diaspora, past and present; Genocide, Famine, Poverty and other horrible tragedies. These problems reflect as the result of; Chattel Slavery (Dehumanization, Subhuman Bondage), Abominable Brutalizations (Brandings, Beatings, Whippings, Mutilatings, Burnings, Lynchings, Rapings), Imperialism, Colonialism, Neo-Colonialism, Invasion, Depopulation, Theft of Land, Theft of Resources, Experimentation, Facilitating the Criminal Activities of secretive hate groups against African slaves and their descendants such as the Klu Klux Klan, White Citizens Council, Knights of the White Camelia and other Racist White Supremacist groups, etc under the system of Racism White Supremacy.

The Racist European & Western Governments in past embraced many injustices which gave birth to Inequality (Apartheid/Segregation Laws, Black Codes), Oppression and Discrimination of our African people. These Governments compensated the Slave Owners and not the African Slave Survivors which also affected the African Descendants of Slaves whom ended up having no substantial inheritance.

The European & Western Governments that have benefited from the enslavement of Africans, owe these families, whom are the Descendants of African Slaves, at the least compensation for the unpaid wages of our Ancestors that are well over due. The European & Western Governments today should not dismiss that it is a debt their Governments owe and could have paid many years ago to actual living African Slave Survivors but refused because of their continual prejudices.

Today's European & Western Governments attitude towards African Reparations are, " Ignore it and it will go away", "Don't apologize for it because it will cause stronger cases for Lawsuits" ..This is not right.

France, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, North America, Netherlands, Denmark, Holland, Turkey etc...

If these European & Western Governments want to prove that they are not still Racist today, they must compensate for the Black Holocaust, especially to the African Descendants of Slaves or they will still hold that terrible label as Racist as many of their forefathers were.

Remember the original idea behind African Chattel Slavery was definitely not to compensate for any labour rendered and this is still the idea being perpetrated by these European & Western Governments as they remain silent to the issue.

Recent Historical Facts:
1988-1999 Indian Gaming Regulatory Acts Making Billions + for the AMERICAN INDIANS
1990 USA $1.2 Billion or $20000 each - JAPANESE AMERICANS
1990 AUSTRIA $25 Million to Holocaust Survivors - JEWISH CLAIMS ON AUSTRIA
1988 CANADA 250,000 Sq. Miles of Land - INDIANS & ESKIMOS
1988 CANADA $230 Million - JAPANESE CANADIANS
1986 U.S.A. $32 Million - 1836 Treaty OTTAWAS OF MICHIGAN
1985 U.S.A. $31 Million - CHIPPEWAS OF WISCONSIN
1985 U.S.A. $12.3 Million - SEMINOLES OF FLORIDA
1985 U.S.A. $105 Million - SIOUX OF SOUTH DAKOTA
1980 U.S.A. $81 Million - KLAMATHS OF OREGON
1971 U.S.A. $1 Billion + 44 Million Acres of Land - ALASKA NATIVES LAND SETTLEMENT
1952 GERMANY $822 Million to Holocaust Survivors - GERMAN JEWISH SETTLEMENT

To Succeed we must be Unified an act Politically and Legally! This is an issue that all people should take a stand for regardless of Race Classification! And it is not all about a dollar amount which people are fixated on; it's about Justice, Admission of Wrong Doings and Atonement which will truly aid in Racial Reconciliation!

233. Petition to Fight Crime in South Africa

TWENTY ONE THOUSAND (21 000) PEOPLE MURDERED IN SOUTH AFRICA DURING 2005

More people are murdered daily in the "Post Freedom Struggle" "Peaceful", "Democratic", South Africa than any period during the so-called "Freedom Struggle" and/or the 17 years of international boycotts and sanctions against South Africa.

5,000 people were killed on Sept 11, 2001 in America and the world "is at war".

21,000 people were murdered in South Africa last year, and rest of the world turns a blind eye!

An 8 month-old baby girl was raped to death by 5 men in Cape Town, South Africa, as they thought it would "cure their Aids".

A 24 year-old pregnant woman was repeatedly raped in her home in Birch Acres, Kempton Park, South Africa on Monday, January 08, 2001.

A five-month pregnant woman, her husband and their five-year-old daughter were relaxing at home when four unknown men entered the house. The husband (32) was tied up and held at gunpoint while the suspects raped his wife in the dining room.

No arrests have been made.

One Sunday Times front-page headline stated:

STOP THIS HORROR

Toddler simonized to death.
2-year-old girl simonized so brutally, her wounds shocked doctors. Her anus and rectum were so severely injured that medical staff could literally see 3cm inside her body. The rapist walks free after police corrupted her file.

The gruesome list goes on and on . . .

234. BMX skatepark in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, South Africa

THE TEENAGERS of Walmer, a suburb of the city of Port Elizabeth, South Africa NEED YOUR HELP. Teenage BMXers in the Walmer area have no place to go. The cities only skatepark and other established ramps are far away, and we have no transport.

The Walmer area is full of large empty spaces with much potential, but land is expensive and no teenager has that kind of money. We get chased away from the streets where we are forced to ride, and are harassed by the public, security guards and police on a daily basis.

ALL THIS CAN STOP if we had the land to build our own place!

236. Maltreatment of Africans by European Airlines Must Stop!

The long history of exploitation and maltreatment of African people by European airlines can no longer be ignored. In fact, they must stop.

The petition below is a rallying call for an end to such exploitation and maltreatment which are obvious to any one who travels to and from Africa with any one of these European airlines.

Specifically, this is our position: Since African people are a part of the human race, European Airlines should treat them with respect and dignity, just like they treat any other group of human beings who are not Africans. As such, the apparent maltreatment of Africans by the European airlines will no longer be ignored.

We must stop this maltreatment NOW.

Note: This is a suppliment to the original petition published in 2004. For details, see: http://www.liberateafrica.org/petitionairlines.html

237. Revive the Uganda Airline

Uganda Airlines is a defunct. Uganda Airlines Corporation went out of business in May 2001.

Several local, regional and international firms expressed an interest in taking over Uganda Airlines upon privatization, but later pulled out, leaving only South Africa Airways, which also backed out.

The government is putting a lot of money to remodel and give a facelift to Entebbe International Airport, only to be enjoyed by foreign airlines.

238. End The Genocide In Darfur

THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLETELY ALONE! The peace keepers who were there as of September 30th are gone. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

3,000 Canadian troops are currently in Afghanistan slaughtering innocent people - a mere 100 are in Africa helping. That's right, that's for the entire Continent. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR PEACE KEEPERS?

These people don't have protection, food, clean water, clothing, shelter or water. Right now as you read this thousands of people are STARVING to death, being SHOT or RAPED.

We NEED to come together and DO SOMETHING about these attrocities before it's too late.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In the beginning of 2003 a rebel group began attacking government targets. Why? They claimed the government was oppressing black Africans in favour of Arabs. Although the government admits mobilising " Self Defense Militias " after the rebel attacks, it denies having any connection to the Janjaweed, who are a militia drawn from Darfurian and Chadian Arab tribes that became known for massacre, rape and forced displacement in 2003-2004.

Many of the civilians from Darfur have been forced to flee for safety as the result of maniacal raids of the state-sponsored Arab militias and government helicopter gun ships. So far, 400,000 lives have been taken.

The Sudanese government has promised to disarm the Janjaweed, yet there is little evidence that this has been done.

As of late 2004, 1.2 million people had been displaced from their homes, 200,000 had fled to Chad, 405 villages had been destroyed ( 100 others significantly damaged ), and 50,000 people had been killed. All this in only one year.

The lives of the women, men and children in Darfur are in danger. Not only are they being killed by the Janjaweed, but they don't have enough food, water or medicine to survive. I'm not asking you to donate money, or even food or clothing. All I'm asking is that you take the time to sign this.

You may be thinking, " Why should I care? These people aren't related to me. They have never helped me in any way. " But the truth is, they ARE people. Like you and I, they don't want to suffer. They love, they breathe, they feel, just like us.

You have a choice right now, you can allow this to continue, or you can stand up for the victims of these attrocities in Darfur.

If enough people sign this petition, something will be done. Don't under estimate the power of one person.

239. UK Government to ICC for illegally installing Idi Amin

In 1971, the UK Government illegally installed Idi Amin as president of Uganda (http://www.africanfront.com/amindada.php).

This led to 7 years of dramatic economic decline and also to dreadful human rights violations, including of course many gruesome deaths.

The UK Government bears responsbility for the Human Rights Violations, and also for the economic decline, which took another 21 years for Uganda to recover from after Idi Amin was forced from power.

240. Darfur Action Now

July 16, 2006

Bashir has used the Janjaweed militia to murder thousands of men, women, and children while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle.

Parade magazine's David Wallechinsky ranked al-Bashir ..1 in its list of the worlds ten worst dictators. Most recently he has severely restricted press access to Darfur, an ominous sign ofwhat's to come.

When Omar Al-Bashir rose to power in 1989 he dissolved parliament and banned political parties. Ignoring countless U.N. resolutions to disarm the Janajaweed militia and end the violence in Darfur, Bashir has made a mockery of international law and the ideals on which the United Nations was founded. He seems to believe the international community will allow him to get a way with the wholesale murder of entire ethnic groups, and so far he has been right.

After the Holocaust the world said it would "never again" allow the wholesale slaughter of ethnic groups by any government, even if it meant standing up to a major world power such as Nazi Germany.

Omar Al-Bashir is making a mockery of this pledge by committing genocide on a budget less than of most U.S. states.

If the world is unwilling to intervene in a genocide committed by a relatively minor world player, how can we possibly hope to stand up to the next Nazi Germany?
