1. Ban Tractor Trailers on Highway 8
After the recent unfortunate deaths of the two young 18 year-olds (Dustin Peers and Chase Hudye) on Hwy 8 in August 2012, a small group of families from Elbow Valley and Lower Springbank got together. These families all have kids who were friends with Dusty and Chase.
After a couple of meetings, we established our agenda, which is to “make Hwy 8 safer for the residents and cyclists who frequent this road”. It became very clear that a divided, twinned Hwy 8 is years away, so the interim solution, in our opinion, is to remove the heavy truck traffic from this highway.
There are 3 other alternate heavy truck routes through Calgary from the west to Hwy 2 south, and the current Hwy 8 route is the only one that is a 2-lane undivided highway. To accomplish this, all it takes is some No Heavy Trucks signage, Provincial approval, RCMP enforcement, and your support.
Please join us in this worthwhile endeavour to save lives in our Springbank Community. Help us by please writing to our website www.NotOn8.ca, Rockyview Municipal Council, your MLA, the Provincial Minister of Transportation and our Premier.
2. UPGRADE NSW HIGHWAYS NOW BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST!
Between 1995 and 2009 more than 400 lives have been taken on the pacific highway. Estimated 10 000 injured during its existence.
The main thing that will lower deaths is a dual carriageway.
3. A86 Barriers between Roy Bridge and Tulloch
Every week, during ALL driving conditions, people lose their cars, and sometimes their lives on the short stretch of road between Roy Bridge and Tulloch.
These accidents could be reduced with some strategically placed barriers.
The strikes in South Africa are busy destroying our country. Our children have no education, medical care is not available, petrol companies to start a strike on the 28th of August 2010.
5. Keep the children of Ashland, KY safe!
[5:36:02 PM] Donna Forquer: A Hatcher Elementary School second-grader who was struck by a car Thursday morning on Belmont Street while waiting for a school bus has died. Raymond Jones, 7, died Friday afternoon in Cabell Huntington Hospital, said Charles Shumaker, a hospital spokesman. Earlier, the boy’s aunt, Crystal Hofmann, said in a telephone interview from the hospital that the youngster’s condition took a turn for the worse overnight.
Doctors informed the family that Raymond’s brain activity had ceased, and the family made the agonizing decision to discontinue life support, she said. Hofmann also said she was in the process of setting up an account at Home Federal Savings & Loan to receive donations for the family. “They’re going to have a lot of things they’re going to need to take care of,” she said. Anyone wishing to donate to the fund should contact Home Federal, Hofmann said. Hofmann also said Hatcher Principal David Greene and other Ashland school officials had joined the family in their vigil at the hospital. “They’ve been really supportive,” she said. The youngster was struck around 7 a.m. in the 1500 block of Belmont Street, near the entrance to Ashland Cemetery, the Ashland Police Department said.
Raymond was attempting to walk across Belmont and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Frank Branham of Ashland. APD Maj. Todd Kelley said the boy was waiting for the bus with some other children on the cemetery side of Belmont, where the bus normally picks up students. For some unknown reason, the boy decided to cross over to the opposite side of the street and was hit as he stepped from the southbound to the northbound lane, he said. Raymond was taken initially to King’s Daughters Medical Center then flown to Cabell Huntington. Raymond died 36 hours later from massive brain trauma. I don't want to see any more parents live the nightmare that I have lived. Raymond was my youngest son. This family has been torn apart, this may have been prevented if there were signs to warn drivers of bus stops
Kettleby corner is a notorious accident black spot at the junction of the A1084 Brigg to Caistor road and the B1434 Howsham road.
There have been several accidents over the years, including a fatality in March 2009.
The poor visibility at this junction must be improved as soon as possible and at all costs.
7. Review Safety at Corbetts Roundabout, Caerphilly
The traffic flow and congestion at the Corbetts Roundabout in Caerphilly has already caused several accidents / deaths and tailbacks causing impatience in this town, this in turn leads to dangerous risk taking in order to continue their journey beyond this roundabout.
8. Request for speed limit reduction on Amelia Church Road
Many accidents and near misses have happened in the past 10 years. On October 21st, 2009 a Landmark resident, Mr. Michael Herod, was rear ended while attempting to turn left (onto Springwood Pl.) into Landmark subdivision. Mr Herod's vehicle was totaled and he sustained injuries to his neck and lower back.
9. Petition to the MSA re: Safety & the Zip Storm Nose Cone
As members of the karting community, you may have witnessed or heard of several recent accidents in Cadet Racing where the Zip Storm Nose Cone has caused a shovel effect and contributed to karts being launched into the air, resulting in young drivers being injured.
This cannot be allowed to continue, We urge you to sign this petition, which will be forwarded to the MSA, Zip and any relevant authorities for the removal of the current shape fairing. There has been no evidence that the current shape has a speed advantage, over a run of the mill universal fairing.
We are appealing to the people who govern our sport to listen to their customers and ensure the safety of our children.
10. Request for a traffic light at the intersection of highway 33 and Braums
There have been numerous amounts of traffic accidents at highway 33 and Braums/Loves intersections. This takes place in Guthrie, OK.
11. Reduce the risks - 50/30 Now on the A1307
The A1307 between the A11 and Haverhill (just ten miles) has seen over 16 deaths, 31 Serious Accidents and 99 Slight Injury Accidents in the last five years and since March this year six people (three children) have lost their lives on the road. There are 10 changes of speed limit in 6 miles, several applicable for one third of a mile or less.
We are told that ‘most’ of the fatalities on the A1307 are not related to excessive speed but we believe that if speed limits were reduced then this would have a positive effect. We believe – and we hope that you agree – that this road needs ‘calming’ in the way that only a lower and properly-enforced speed limit can achieve.
The peak period vehicle interval is 1.8 seconds, making this a very difficult road to access at these times of day, however people are still expected to cross the road (up to three lanes of traffic) in the dark with traffic travelling at 60mph just to catch a bus. Two children have lost their lives crossing the road in the last two years.
Vehicles from the villages have to risk their lives to exit their own villages and a roundabout to alleviate these problems and save lives was rejected due to congestion issues related to the high volume of traffic on the road – they just dropped the issue and left residents with the problem. Surprisingly Just four years later Cambridgeshire County Council stated that the road could accommodate an additional 250 lorries per day on the road from a large distribution centre... putting vehicles ahead of people.
Considerable housing and industrial development will continue at Haverhill, inevitably creating even more commuter and HGV traffic on the A1307 but no plans are in place to accommodate it and improvements will inevitably have to come from road safety budgets which mean people have to lose their lives first and this is TOTALLY unacceptable.
We want Cambridgeshire County Council to take immediate action, to reduce speed limits immediately and to make representations to the government for funding to put long term improvements into place.
12. Seat Belts for All Public Transportation
This Petition is being put in place because of all the tragic events involving buses.
We have heard of so many people, children and adults being killed in accidents involving buses. Just recently I have experience the loss of a close friend in a very tragic buses accidents.
I know we cannot stop death but I truly believe if buses had seat belts we could limited the amount of people injured in these types of accidents.
13. Noosa / Cooroy Road Danger Saver !!
Our brother was killed on Noosa / Cooroy road recently due to traffic stopped to turn into a dangerous drive way on this road. It is 100 km an hour with no over taking lanes and you just don't have the time to prepare yourself for what may be around the corner.
Myself and my family are taking on the Minister for Roads to reduce the speed limit on this horror stretch or to widen the road so that other cars doing the 100 km speed limit have somewhere to go other than up the back of the car infront.
Many similar accidents just like this one have happened along this horror stretch and it is honestly one of the most dangerous roads that many know of on the Sunshine Coast.
This has not been the only incident of its kind recently. Since losing Jayden, there have been at least 3 other similar situations and I am sure that there will be plenty more unless something is done about this. The police and residence of this area have also been fighting to have something done.
If these roads were in the middle of suburbia, the speed limit would be nowhere near this high. But for some reason, just because the only thing on either side of the road is grass, this somehow makes it safe to hit triple digits on the speedometer?
If you are here to sign this petition and you find that it wont let you because your details are already listed, this is because you have already signed our petition when we were walking the streets asking for signatures and we have transferred your name onto this online one. I hope this is ok. We have not entered any street names or such, just first & last names and suburb.
14. Make the Framlingham to Parham Road Safer
This petition is to bring up a serious issue on a local stretch of road. The road runs from Framlingham, through to Parham.
This particular road, has become increasingly renowned for accidents, some fatal. This needs to be recognised and dealt with immediately, to stop more serious injuries and deaths that will occur, if the problem is not addressed.
This should be done by imposing a speed limit or putting warning signs in place.
15. Revisions to Teenage Driving Laws
Vechile accidents have long been to blame for the highest number of teenage deaths in the United States. Statistics show that teenage drivers, under laws now, are still at high risk of getting into accidents that could endanger not only their lives, but the lives of all those on the road.
With revisions to the currents laws teenage drivers would gain more experience, and become more intelligent, safer drivers and the bring the potential for the decreasement of their involvement in roadway accidents and deaths
16. 4 Way Stop at 304th Street and 170th Ave
Currently there is a 2 way stop at the corner of 304th St and 170th Ave. There are accidently almost daily at that corner because no obeys the stop sign.
On May 10, 2007 a driver passed the stop sign and neglected to stop. The driver hit another car and that car lost control of the vechile which ended up hitting my house. Luckily no one was injured but my home was seriously damamged in the accident.
As a homeowner and tax payer I am feed up with all of the accidents on this corner. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets seriously injured.
17. Keep Scottsdale Closed Petition
Join us to say “NO” to opening Scottsdale!
On Wednesday, April 25th, the BHC MUD Board voted against opening up Scottsdale Road to Hwy. 183-A by sending a resolution to the City of Cedar Park and Williamson County offices, stating to vacate their right-away to the MUD. Since this time, a small number of Block House Creek residents decided to re-open the issue and ask BHC residents to sign a petition to open Scottsdale.
Our opinion to this is that we to want another alternative road opened within Block House Creek, but not for the safety of our children and the peace of our neighborhood. We believe, in time, Block House Creek Road makes the most sense to open up rather than Scottsdale. There are no houses that face the road, only fences.
We are asking you to join fellow neighbors that will be directly affected by the opening of Scottsdale Rd. to access 183A and say "NO" by signing this online petition.
Harm that will potentially come with opening Scottsdale:
1. Serious injury or a death of a child or pedestrians
walking or riding their bikes along Scottsdale.
2. High speed drivers exiting 183A onto Scottsdale from 60+ MPH onto a 25 MPH zone.
3. Accidents with residents cars when they’re backing out of their driveways onto Scottsdale.
4. Accidents with residents who are trying to get their mail from the mailboxes built on Scottsdale.
5. Accidents involving school children who are getting on/off of school buses at 2 corners on Scottsdale.
6. Two homes on Scottsdale potentially losing their home and/or yard, which will put those families in a financial bind.
7. Increase in traffic from non-residents cutting through Block House Creek to get to Horizon Park, Ridgewood and also to get to their homes that are across 183, by using our main exit.
8. Ruin the quality of life that we have living on and near Scottsdale.
9. The value of our homes (that are specifically on or right off of Scottsdale) will potentially go down because our driveways will be difficult to get in and out of, drive by traffic will be heavy, front yards will no longer be family friendly and our once peaceful area would be filled with traffic and back-ups.
10. Increase in crime rate and access for DWI drivers to drive right past our homes
Please help our families by signing our Petition AGAINST extending Scottsdale Drive onto HWY. 183A! Thank you!
If you would like to help us in the fight to keep our families safe and choose a better solution, please let your voice be heard by:
1. Call or email our County Commissioner Cynthia Long at 260-4280 or clong@wilco.org to let your feelings be known
2. Participate in the online survey on the BHC Owners Association at www.bhcoa.com
We sincerely thank you for your support in helping us maintain our quality of life and the safety of our families!
18. Pedestrian Safety in New Haven, CT
On October 3, 2006, an innocent bystander was hit by a car, and seriously injured at the intersection of North Frontage Road and College Street, in New Haven, CT.
This incident is just one example of a larger pedestrian safety problem. Unfortunately, accidents and "close-calls" at this intersection are not rare. The New Haven Department of Traffic and Parking reported 23 accidents at North Frontage Road and College Street in 2003 alone, the most recent year for which data is available. (A link to an article written by a local journalist about the same issue is above.)
In response to the dozens of accidents that have taken place at the North Frontage-College intersection, the Department's apathy toward fixing the problem, and given that all adjacent intersections indeed have basic pedestrian safety features in place, we propose the following petition.
Over 400 people die every year on ATV's, and Florida is in the top 10 for the most deaths.
In 2002 alone, 44 children died and 30,300 youths were injured as a result of ATV accidents.
ATV-related accidents have killed nearly 6,000 people in the past two decades. All-terrain vehicles have been linked to some 5,800 deaths since 1982.
20. Lower the Drinking Age In America
March 24, 2006
Should the drinking age should be lowered in the United States of America?
I am not against the drinking age so that teens everywhere can drink constantly at age 18 but I do believe there is something seriously wrong with setting such a high drinking age in the USA, much higher than other countries.
In america we deserve something more than that. Today, unlike 25 years ago, many more rules and regulations are in effect against drunk driving and public drunkeness to protect everyone against the same thing that Mothers Against Drunk driving created the minimum drinking age act for.
I'm sure it wouldn't have the catastrophic effect that MADD portrays will happen if we let the drinking age stand at 18 or 19 years of age.
I am currently 17 years old and i know many many underaged kids that currently get into car accidents, die or are severely injured by teen drunk driving because the age is sooo high they binge drink, and try to drink their lives away just because they cant. It's caused numerous accidents and fatalities.
America needs a drinking age of 18 or 19 because there is no reason to wait until 21. The logic that madd gives is unreasonable.
Please if you feel strongly about this issue the same way I do then sign the petition.
21. degrassi's accidents will happen - show it
This petition is about the-n not showing accidents will happen in the united states but they showed in canada other kids and i think that's not fair because we are no diffrent than them we all watch the same show so why not show it, it's apart of life so thats why im making this petition.
So in accidents will happen manny gets pregnant by craig but she doesn't know if she's going to keep it or not. Craig wants manny to have the baby and so does emma but manny's not sure, so manny goes to spike and askes her for help and spike says whatever you do im right behind you 100%, but manny says her mom will kill her so she goes and gets the abortion instead.
22. degrassi episode "accidents will happen"
July 8, 2005
I am making this petition because ALOT of people in the USA want to see a certain Degrassi episode that they only showed/will show in Canada.
The episode is called "Accidents Will Happen", and there is 2 parts to it, and this show only comes on The-N which u can get only if u have the sattelite and there is 2 parts to it. In this episode a character gets pregnant and ends up having an abortion.
The USA will not show it beause she has an abortion!
23. Keep "Accidents Will Happen" from Season 3 of Degrassi off the air
A lot of people want to see accidents will happen on the N, but because of the way abortion is protrayed in thess episodes a lot of people also do not want these episodes to air.
Please do not air them. Some of us do not want our children or siblings exposed to unhealthy, inhumane, and immoral behavior. Everyone deserves the right to life, regardless of what the writers on this show think.
24. Concerned Citizens Want a Traffic Light Installed
Citizens of the Camden School District, as well as employees and visitors of the Camden Central School District residing outside of those areas, petition to have a traffic light installed at the intersection of State Rt 13 and Florence Hill Rd in Camden, NY.
25. Stop Sign Addition To Glenwood Rd.
We, the homeowners residing on 1200 block of Elm Avenue in City of Glendale, California are strongly urging the city authorities to consider adding a stop signs on the Glenwood Rd and Elm Avenue intersection. Currently there is only one set of stop signs for Elm Avenue. Glenwood Rd. lacks one.
Every day the residents, and especially others not familiar with this intersection, face a difficult and hazardous situation.
The view from Elm Avenue to the cross traffic on Glenwood Rd. is obstracted.
The 85% of the time parked vehicles on Glenwood Rd. are too close to to the curve of the curb. For some reason, the parking has been allowed almost to the edge of the curve.
The undersigned would attest to the fact that in order to see the cross traffic one has to pass the rear of the parked vehicles, and by this time one is almost into the Glenwood Rd. Something needs to be done as soon as possible before something tragic happens at this crossing. Crossing this street is almost like a 'catch up' game. This has been proven to be very hazardous based on our experience, and numerouse accidents we've witnessed.
26. Stop workers' deaths caused by workplace accidents.
We are 3 girls from Sebeka, MN doing a FCCLA topic and need everyones help. We know first hand what it is like to lose someone close caused by workplace accidents.
We want to make the workplaces more safe and protect people, so you don't have to worry about your loved ones.
27. Abolish Bathroom Use Policy at Peru Community Schools
Petition against Peru Community Schools for Bathroom Use Punishment.
There has been a situation during this 2004-2005 school year that was brought to my attention by my children. They were being punished with standing on the wall at recess for needing to use the restroom. I, Walter Campbell Jr., approached Thomas McKaig in a private meeting about the situation. I was told it is the teachers' discretion on how to handle bathroom privileges and that he had asked a Dr. and was told children could go 4 hours without needing to use the restroom. As you will find in my research, it is healthy for a child to use the restroom at least every 2 hours if not more. I brought up that children will have accidents from holding it and not wanting to get in trouble and his response was "Well more children haven't had accidents than have had accidents". I don't think these children should even have the opportunity to have an accident. Every child is different and they drink different amounts of liquid, body retains liquid differently, bladder sizes differ, along with many other differences in children. As I see it using the restroom is not a privilege, it is a necessity for health and psychological reasons. Nothing further was done to investigate the situation.
I did some research on the harms of children not being able to use the restroom and sent these items to school with my children and they were returned to me. The documentation can be viewed at http://www.childadvocate.org/1b.htm or http://www.nospank.net/frbw.htm .
My children are now allowed to go to the restroom when they need to without punishment, but ONLY my children. They are also being treated differently as they do not get in trouble when clearly they should or being let to do things any other child would not ordinarily be allowed to do. This is being done to keep me from filing a lawsuit about the bathroom policy. I do not feel this is fair to the rest of the children in the Peru Community School Corporation, as now this is discrimination to the other children, and ask that something be done. We as adults have OSHA to protect us and it is law that we are able to use the restroom at any time needed, why not our children.
I do know that at Blair Pointe that there are some classes where children are not allowed to use the restroom at all when asked. Then we have Jr. High and High School, where they are given 5 minutes between classes to get books, go to restroom, and make it across the school to get to class. This is not enough time for a normal human to complete such tasks.
I think that the school system has to understand that they need to conform to the needs of the students, not to the needs of the facility. We pay the taxes to keep our schools running and to teach our children. Teaching them that using the restroom is a punishable act is not what we as Miami County residents pay for.
I feel it is our responsibility as parents to know what our schools bathroom use policy is and remedy the situation so that our children know that using the restroom is a normal bodily function and not a punishable act. We as parents have an obligation to be sure our children are safe from physical and mental harm, but letting our schools punish children for a natural body function is considered abuse both physically and mentally. Continued denial of bathroom use will eventually harm our children physically and if they wet themselves they will be harmed mentally.
The residents of Kedron Hills would like to see a 4-way stop sign at the intersection of Astoria Lane, Euclid Court and Creston Hill. This would slow down speeders and help insure the safety of our kids.
This intersection is one of the busiest school bus stops in the neighborhood and installing two more stop signs on Astoria would greatly deminish the probablity of accidents and or fatalities invloving our children.
29. Show the "Accidents Will Happen" episode of Degrassi !
This is a petition to get The-N to show the "Accidents Will Happen" episode of Degrassi in the United States.
Hello, my name is Jillian and I'm here to fight for U.S. citizens that like to watch Degrassi. You've probably heard that The-N refuses to show the "Accidents May Happen" episode of Degrassi, but if you haven't it's an episode that involves Manny getting pregnant and then getting an abortion.
It's not fair that this television station does not allow this episode to be shown even though we U.S. citizens pay the cable bill every month for a full season of Degrassi. I think that The-N should either show the episode or put it out on DVD.
If you think this isn't fair please sign this petition. Thank you very much for listening to me and have a good day.
30. Let's make Lemay Ferry Road Safe
There is a very dangerous stretch of road in South County/ Oakville area St. Louis, MO. Lemay Ferry Road, just south of Butler Hill Road has been the site of three recent accidents causing the death of two high school students and one young husband/father in the last year.
