Petition Background (Preamble):
Vasily Aleksanyan was arrested in 2006 just days after his appointment as Vice President of Yukos.
He was imprisoned for embezzlement and money laundering. Soon after, a medical revealed that Mr Aleksanyan had contracted HIV/AIDS.
Mr Aleksanyan is being denied life-saving medical treatment and his condition is now critical.
Russia has ignored repeated injunctions from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) requiring that Vasily be hospitalized in a specialist civilian AIDS clinic.
