Implement Number Portability Jamaica
Petition published by ProNumberPortabilityJA on Feb 24, 2012
| 11 Signatures |
Target: Ministry of Telecommunications
Region: Jamaica
Petition Background (Preamble):
Digicel is basically a monopoly in Jamaica. With the Claro/Digi merger, they now own over 2 million mobile subscribers. The rates charged by Digi do not auger well for the Jamaican consumers.
The government has been lax in creating the adequate regulatory framework to protect the interest of consumers.
Portability allows for customers to keep their original number when they switch networks. Already the Cayman Islands has implemented this following key markets like the USA and Canada.

Petition:
Let us tell the Jamaican Government to implement Portability to increase competition in the market place and prevent Digicel from taking advantage of Jamaican consumers.
Portability will increase competition and level the playing field. Consumers will benefit tremendously.
