Update 9th March 2008: The Australian Communications and Media Authority have handed down the FINAL view to NOT renew the licence. At this stage we have been awarded a temporary license for 3 months but have decided to return the license to ACMA this Sunday 8th March 2008 at 11:59:59 and cease all broadcasting. Due to increasing financial strain, we are no longer able to provide the service. Thank you for your continued support over the last 5 years, it has been a joy sharing 101.7FM with everyone.

Update: Feb 21, 08 : Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition so far, you are all such a blessing to our station to seeing us one step closer to achieving our licence!

The Australian Communications and Media Authority Board are meeting today to make their final review of our case and we hope to have an answer by Friday 22nd February or at the latest Monday. But please keep signing the petition, we hope ACMA can see that our volunteers, members and listeners are a genuine testament to vision of youth culture in Perth.

Much love to everyone, see you on the other side!

Background: You may have heard it through the grapevine that Groove 101.7FM recently applied for its licence renewal for the next 5 year period and have been distraught to find that the Australian Communications and Media Authority have handed down the preliminary view to NOT renew the licence.

Please write a brief letter of support to the station or reply to our petition here, you will be making a difference to seeing W.A’s only youth community radio station continue to involve, inform and entertain the youth of Perth.

MISSION STATEMENT: I hereby declare I believe that Groove 101.7FM (6YMS) represents the interests of the youth community in Perth W.A. I believe it has made sincere efforts to comply to the conditions being set out by the ACMA and should be given a chance to get even better.

I believe Groove 101.7FM should stay on the air and have its licence renewed. It is a valuable asset to youth culture in Perth and is a vital forum for youth to have their voice heard.

The Help Groove 101.7FM Stay On Air! petition to The Australian Communications and Media Authority was written by Joana Pop and is in the category Youth at GoPetition.
