A great big THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has participated in this effort.
The petition provided bus riders and supporters an oppportunity to express our disagreement with the proposed bus eliminations, and to comment on how the bus cuts could effect us individually.
As the number of signatures increased, more members of the community became interested in this issue (including the press), and the result was that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors restored the funding on April 27, 2010. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dmb/fy2011/fy2011_markup_package.pdf

Petition Background (Preamble):
Supporters and riders of the 552, 553, 554, 557,929, 951, & 952 Fairfax Connector buses who oppose the elimination of these bus routes in the Proposed FY 2011 Fairfax Connector Budget.
Petition:
We are supporters and riders of the Fairfax Connector bus system, and we strongly oppose the planned elimination of routes 552, 553, 554, 557,929, 951, & 952. Many of us rely on these buses for our livelihoods.
The proposed solution of one additional bus line servicing the Reston East (Wiehle) Park and Ride is not acceptable, as that lot is already over capacity. In addition, service cuts will add even more congestion and strain to Fairfax County’s overburdened roads.
We believe that this decision is short sighted and will irreparably harm our community. We support public transportation, and we call on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to do the same and preserve these bus routes.
