Protect the Free Internet - Say No to Mandatory Censorship

Category: Human Rights
Region: Australia
Target: Federal Parliament
Background (Preamble):
The Rudd Labor government is planning to introduce a mandatory Internet filtering system, which is scheduled to begin trials before Christmas 2008.

The "cleanfeed" system will be mandatory on all ISPs and there will be no opt out. The government will have sole discretion to decide for us what is "inappropriate" web content.

This proposal is a sinister attack on our free society and must be resisted by all legal means available.

Petition:
I am resolutely opposed to the Rudd government's plans for mandatory internet censorship.

I call on the government to uphold core principles of freedom and human rights upon which our society is based.

I call on the government to immediately rescind this assault on our freedoms as a people.

I call on my fellow Australians to join me in defending democracy.
